In my area, there is no 'give way' sign painted on the road, nor are there designated lanes for left and right turns at the junction at the end of a one-way street. Instead, there is only a set of double broken white lines across the entire road, and the sign for Two way traffic crosses one way road.

Here in Canada my instructor still tells me what to do? and sometimes when you already know what to do do they still tell you.

In my experience, if you “incorrectly” give way, you can make a comment. “I have the right of way, but the lorry is in a tight spot so I’m gonna give it to him” That makes it clear you understand it, and also that you can think ahead. However, only do it if it’s really necessary, and you have a good reason. Like, probably 10% of my drives in the city I run into that. UK roads are narrow, so sometimes cooperation is just required.

Nothing coming the other way until a delivery van starts barging down against the flow of traffic with the hazards on. Usually Amazon or DPD 👍

One thing I hate is somebody letting me out! I am already well prepared to go when I can. This just messes with my head. Stop it! And also when walking. I know when I'm going to cross the road, I've timed it. And then some car stops to let me cross when I've already timed my crossing, making me cross when I'm not ready.

Don't give way to everyone, discarding priority rules, after your driving exam, either. There are two big reasons for it: firstly, those priority rules are there for a good reason, to let traffic flow as smoothly and safely as possible, and secondly, if you practiced driving by the rules and then throw all of that away as soon as you get your license, you will very quickly forget what the actual rules are. Myriad of such drivers on the streets, stopping where they cause traffic jams, failing to merge in turn, driving either way too fast or way too slow for the traffic...

Nobody expects to be let out under normal conditions. It's only different if you cant clear into the road and you want to turn into and you are going going to block the road because you can't clear as soon as you can go. As soon as your exit road comes clear take control. On a roundabout you may need to stop before the prenuptial as your exit is blocked, but as soon as you can go give a creep to say I'm taking back control. There is being kind because you can't go and letting people take the pee out of you. On test I wouldn't worry about your only focus is to pass and not to work out the balance of what is right Morrally and what is expected that's what you'll figure out once you have passed, you are demonstrating your knowledge of what is expected. Plus everyone is expecting you to simply drive normally

I made this mistake on my last lesson, although at first it was the right thing to do. Temporary lights in the middle of town, busy traffic. Parked cars on the left approaching the lights, splitting into two lanes. I pulled halfway around the parked cars to get into the left lane and was stuck angled behind someone. It was all fine until our lights went green and the car in front couldn't move (they didn't stall, they just had their handbrake on. They kept trying.) I felt really bad because while it was a bit of fun watching this car trying to move, I was unintentionally holding up a massive queue of traffic. A little further back and we could have overtaken in the right lane. To be honest, the guy behind us was in a smart car and I feel like he could have gone around easily and had everyone follow, but we just waited for the next cycle.

The last double roundabout at the end gave me flashbacks. Not for giving way and priority, I was on a mock test lesson and came off the first one fine, and into the left lane of the second one because I couldn't see the markings under queueing traffic 😂lovely estate down there mind Just also adding, this video appeared on my homepage like magic just now. I'm in Cheltenham and I'm always looking out for tips on UA-cam between drives so this is perfect. Got my test in December (was cancelled from September because the examiner quit) so still plenty of time to get everything right.

3 lemons all sat there at a 3 exit roundabout all looking to their right, waiting to move onto the roundabout. Who goes first.? 😮 Nobody knows. This is where an advanced driver has already anticipated that scenario and takes the decision to move onto the roundabout without hesitation but also mindful that they may need to give way if the driver to the right is quicker. This always leads me to the question should drivers be indicating to go around a roundabout or just to exit a roundabout.? The wife and I love this debate on our journeys.😂

So confused,I was recently exactly in the same situation and i was so surprised I actually had priority..I think I will never understand this type of roundabout..

You know that's exactly where I got a hesitation 30 years ago. I just thought I'm unsure. So I thought don't rush and make a dangerous fault and I actually talked through the steps in my head and thought yeah it's my turn. Ok I got a hesitation but it wasn't dangerous and passed. Interesting people still get confused with the same stuff I did all them years ago

when changing lanes especially on fast roads are blind spot checks required by DVSA and the highway code? I have seen many videos on changing lanes on motorways etc where they dont tell you to do a shoulder blind spot check. thank you
