There are many treatments available for alcohol addiction, and these are just two of them that I have experience with! In this video, I'll share with you my experience with each one and what I think about them. If you decide that you want to try these two medications to aid you in stopping drinking, use caution and consult your doctor or counselor.

    A few observations about Naltrexone: 1. You can drink over it. And therefore there is a risk at the point of blacking out etc. So if you're trying to drink kill your feelings, naltrexone won't stop you, so you kind of have to get over that first. 2. Naltrexone gives me some weird insights into life. Every time I take it have these deep realizations about the nature of life, death, destiny, etc.

    I went to counseling. I went to rehab. I went to court. Nothing seemed to get to the roots of the problem. I was able to get to the causes and conditions and then take action in learning to live out of self. I learned how to not be driven by self interest and seeking ease and comfort. I learned to mend the harm I had experienced and those I harmed. I did not take meds. I went to AA and took some suggestions and stopped trying to do things my way. I do not call my sponsor every day. I do not go to meetings every day. I did go a lot the first few years. I learned how to look at my part in things. I learned how to forgive others and be considerate of people's pain. I learned that getting life to conform to my wishes was just foolish and that having goals does not mean getting things to go my way. Life on life's terms is a new freedom to accpet things as they are.

He said "if I take another drink I might as well put a gun to my head" he now is a leader in AA helping others as he was helped. He ended up in Federal prison that was his rock bottom. My mother had severe alcohol use disorder for 17 years. It wasn’t until she started Naltrexone that she finally found hope in her addiction and that there was a light at the end of the tunnel. However, she found the miracle drug a bit too late. She passed away last Tuesday unexpectedly. She was only 50. Alcohol has long-lasting physical affects. Although she was working to right the wrongs that 17 years of drinking did to her body, her body kept the score. Although I know she is at peace, I miss her terribly. Please, if you are enduring any moderate to severe form of alcohol withdrawal, seek medical attention. Do not be embarrassed. You will be saving your own life. ❤

    Great video. I have never tried Antabuse but this time around I have been taking naltrexone. What a game changer it has been for me. I have not had a single craving since I started taking it. The only brief moment ive had about thinking about drinking again was situational and not a chemical craving. Do I think naltrexone alone could have stopped me? No, not at all. But coupled with a good program in AA, a real desire to stop drinking and getting my ass into therapy, it has made the journey so much easier. I've gone from a 30 pack and pint of vodka a day addiction to not desiring a drink almost at all. Naltrexone FTW.

But I am very aware of the dangers of not only being an alcoholic, but doing so and adding ANY drug to the mess. I would tell ANYONE considering quitting alcohol to GET WITH YOUR DOCTOR AND YOUR COUNSELOR. This is because every person is different in constitution. Your recovery must be tailored for YOU, with a strong support system. And you must want, way down deep in your gut, to live a sober life. I will celebrate my 3 years on July 9! Christian, I appreciate your comment and support. Not everyone needs medication like this.. One of the most powerful tools that has kept me sober and in touch with myself and the people I don't want to lose again is therapy. Not the conventional therapy that you might think of! I find comfort in sharing my daily struggles, experiences, worries, successes, and being able to give others the chance to do the same by talking with other Alcoholics and Addicts who know exactly what I mean! I mentioned in this video that I continually tested the boundaries of how far I could get on top of the meds.. Those folks I just talked about in this reply tend to hold each other accountable and call BS when it's necessary. Maybe this type of support and encouragement can be just as helpful for you as it is for me.

That, and the breathalyzer app that logs my results every day (I'm obviously just starting out, need numerous layers of accountability).

    "Naltrexone or Antabuse can help some types of drinkers". It does make sense, sir. I'm not struggling with alcohol but a relative is. He is talking about going on Antabuse. He entered counselling by his own directive. He does not need to 'fool' or game any panel/group that he's truly quit due to having the abuse medication in his system. I'm still very concerned about this choice of medication, however, so I'm just educating myself. In short, though, this could help him (provided he stays 100% off alcohol).

      I have been sober over 6 years. I found that trauma and life events were the root of my desire for ease and comfort and I had adopted malformed solutions. I hurt many people. I lost a lot and suffered consequences. I went to counseling and rehab. I found that AA was a place for me to get engaged in a process of uncovering and discovering the causes and conditions of my malady. It is not a physical disease or medical condition. It is mostly a spiritual and emotional malady. I found a way to face the truth under the surface of my storm. I then took steps to admit my part in thing. I found a way to look at those I hurt and take responsibility for what I have done. I learned to be honest about what was going on in my heart and tell the truth. I then, learned to be considerate of other's pain and not demand they change for me to feel better. I foun some semblance of peace in acceptying things. I was hurt as a kid and found a way to solve the problem of being uncomfortable. That solution became a bigger problem. I was condition to think the world was going to hurt me so most difficulties needed to be addressed with changing the way I feel. When I went back to the root cause and worked at being honest about that, I then took action in the present to see that I have a new solution for difficulties. I admit I am hurting. I look at my part. I forgive those who also have a part. I look to help others. All these steps focus me on something other than getting my way. That leads to acceptance and the difficulty is not solved because it does not have to be.

Do what's right for you and stick to natural highs like exercise. I'm at the point of no return so I'm sorry. I really am sorry. I have ulcers in my stomach lining and I nearly died twice vomitting so much red blood I needed transfusions. Just please don't drink yourself to death. It's not worth it. For me, I don't think any form of deterrent or restrictions would've stopped me from getting my drunk! If I needed to go find alcohol or buy more, there was practically nothing that could stop me. It was extreme for me.. I hope that other people don't have to experience what I have, and some have a more severe set of consequences.. but in my case as it relates to soberlink, this is it.

    I'm only 24, been in and out of hospitals for withdrawals probably 30+ times in 2 years, 11 times just this year so far, and I'm thrilled to have finally gotten the antabuse script. I drink when I'm feeling the post-acute-withdrawal symptoms (PAWS), but those will pass. I'm terrified of tachycardia and feeling new symptoms, so I am nearly certain this oldy-but-a-goodie drug might just work for me, considering the compulsion of drinking will become totally weightless if I know the bottle isn't going to medicate, but rather add symptoms! Also, disulfiram doesn't expel alcohol from your body, it just stops it from being metabolized and therefor remains a toxin, causing the adverse reaction :-)

    • @hni7458
      @hni7458 26 днів тому

      No, Daniel, not the disulfiram, but your BODY itself does that for you - if you live long enough that is - through womiting, sweating, shi**ing and the rest. Sorry folks for being descriptive, but this's the harsh reality.

If you doubt your resolve, try AA. Antabuse… I was on that and too afraid to drink with it but it messed up my liver. My eyes were soo yellow, my urine was DARK, my upper right w quadrant was so tender, I was nauseous-I was in the hospital for some days for liver damage.

    t=120 Naltrexone doesn't speed up your metabolism. Basically it gives you the side effect of opiates (light nausea, feeling dry/clammy, feeling sedate, no appetite) without any of the euphoric effects. The way it helps people lose weight is by suppressing appetite by suppressing reward neurotransmitters. same reason most opiate users are deathly skinny. Your brain gives you a chemical reward when you eat (just like alcohol) and that reward is blocked by Naltrexone. So you might feel hungry, you can eat, but when you eat you get no reward from it in your brain.

    • @hni7458

      I've never read a more descriptive explanation of the effects and indeed the side-effects from Naltrexone - spot on, mate, and I didn't know that opioid users got those side effects too - esp the nausea is really awful... It takes away the joy o drinking of course, but me, it took away the joy of living, and that one wasn't favoured by me.

  • @kss3837
