    Hi Sheen!
This is an amazing episode! Thank you for bringing in Dr. Hasia!
As a pharmacist working in a medical aesthetics clinic in Karachi for 4 years, I totally agree with Dr. Hasia about everything she said.
When I counsel my patients, and I see they can't afford the retinoids and Vitamin C of good brands, I direct them towards the basic 3-step skin care. Cleansing, Moisturizing, Protecting i.e. a good cleanser, a moisturizer based on their skin type and condition, and a sunblock (again based on their skin type and condition).
As for the Korean skin care, we do not keep them at our clinic. We only have a few selected Korean brands in our pharmacy that we have already tested and have enough studies and data to support their claim.
The clinic I work in actually is the only aesthetic clinic in Karachi that has a team of pharmacists supporting the doctors. We work together to find the best products available.
As for the South Asian skin type, I have seen that locally compounded and manufactured products turn out to be more effective on our skins than the European or American ones. We are built differently and our exposure to sun and pollutants is different.
Wanted to add one more point, people in the Middle East might have a different opinion about their skin colors, but here, we still see many who want to look white and many who hate themselves because of their skin color, especially girls in their 20s.
I have even had a mother who dragged her 20-year-old daughter in the clinic once and told us to turn her white so she can get good proposals. To this, my colleague at the front desk straight up scolded her and asked her not to talk to her daughter like that.
I counsel my patients/clients about how improved skin health does not mean white skin. It looks like a fun job from far away, but we are here working our bottoms off trying to change the way people perceive beauty.
Lastly, I attended Dubai Derma last year and participated in a workshop on PLLA fillers. The people around me had the same looks that Dr. Hasia talked about, filled cheeks, Russian lips, and pointed chins.
Dubai was amazing though. I am now trying to find a job in the UAE because of how amazing it is. Hoping to have success in this mission.
To sum it all up, skin care is very personal, what works on someone else might not work for you. It's all about trial and error. You have to be patient and gentle with your skin. Skin is the toughest yet very sensitive organ of our bodies.

This was a bit ridiculous. Claiming your skin and hair are “ruined” if you move there to sell your products…

I am a Yemeni girl displaced from the war. My family and I live in a rented house in Al-Shahrab 20,000 Yemenis among us, and now we owe 60,000 for 3 months. The owner of the house is one of the people who does not have mercy, by God, my brother. He comes every day, insulting us, talking about us, and moving from the house to the street because we were unable to pay him the rent. The neighbors saw us crying and came back. They came back to talk to the neighbors and we were given the weekend. So we made him swear by God. He will take us out into the street. Have mercy on him and us. Our country is due to this war and we do not find food for our day, and my brothers and I live in a difficult life. Our father died, may God have mercy on him, and we have no one in this world who was with us in these harsh circumstances. My younger brothers went out into the street and saw...The neighbors eat and stand at their door in order to give them bread even if they break it. By God, to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, they closed the door and expelled them and came back crying. They are dying of hunger. No one has mercy on them and a holiday is returned. I have made a living, and now if one of us helps us with a kilo of flour, I swear to God, I am dying of hunger. My brother, I am an alien to God. Then, I ask you to help me for the sake of God. I ask you, by God, to love goodness and to help me, even if you can, by messaging me on WhatsApp.On this number 00967712874527 and ask for the name of my card and send it and do not be late and may God reward you with all the best, my brothers Sagar, see how they are and help us and save us before they throw us out in the street, you will be lost or we will die of hunger.
