Chris is so amazing in breathing 'life' in to people that probably he can bring back people even from suicidal thoughts or tendencies. Amazing & priceless, to say the least
I'm in my last year in my graphic communication in university and most students don't have a clear goal to what type of design field they'd like to go into yet which is not a bad thing because everyone is at different stages. Would love an episode on a career path for graduate or how to plan things out from the start. Great video as always!
XD do a lot of work. I think sitting back and asking what you want is good, but going out and doing different things is better. Also, sometimes basic discipline is the answer. I think most students have goals, but then don't focus on discipline, fail, then change goals. (From my own experience when I was younger XD)
You always have the best advice. On the most basic level, thank you for not being condescending to young people & choosing to empathize with and inspire us instead. It’s hella scary putting yourself out there especially when you’re new, it’s good to be heard & not have concerns discounted

I now realize that I didn't take any student loans for the skills, and I have 17 years of experience.

Chris, If We Ever Cross Paths In Person...I'd Love To Give You A Hug Your Advice Holds Weight And Is Given With A Level Of Certainty That Shows That You Have Lived Quite A Life It's Sharp Yet Comforting Thank You.
I don't know why, but this discussion seems like a discussion that Chris Do would have with his own two boys. It seems so sincere. And the introvert humor :) "..you are not in danger of saying that just today because you are not an expert of solving all the problems " :))))
Chris... I cannot thank you enough for this message. I am my own worst critic - and now I know I really need to not compare my beginning with someone's middle, and I'll get there in time. It's always a work in progress...
Being compensated by “this is what I do” versus being compensated by “This is who I am” or “this is who I have become,” puts you in a different sales position - which takes time and venturing.
Best advice for young people who are passionate and are in love with the culture of design is to commit to however long it takes while also committing yourself to do the best work possible. This will drastically cut down how long it will take to stand out. There’s always a need and when you become a person that people are talking about, the work will find you. But don’t rush it. Concentrate on the craft of design. In the meantime, network your ass off. And the biggest piece of advice I can give you is to be confident. A mediocre confident design is going to be far more successful than many brilliant designers with no confidence. You’re designing for people to solve people problems in a design context. Understand people, understand who you are trying to reach, ask questions of your clients in an empathetic way to solve THEIR problems. Use your creativity to align the tools and elements to craft possibilities. You’re going to have terrible clients in the beginning and only do work for terrible people if you don’t. Your value is far more than how great your design looks. If you can identity areas of potential and the client is serious about the work, they’ll listen and they’ll thank you for uncovering areas to work on. And they will pay you. Don’t be afraid of doing work for less money in the beginning but use every project as an opportunity to land bigger and better projects. Understand that you’re competing against a crowded field and only the people most willing to work harder because they have an undying passion are going to make it through the tough times. If you want a formula for quick success, it’s not going to happen, unless you have rich friends who will hype you up as their designer friend who kicks ass. Most of us won’t have that. So work, work, work, and work on your confidence. If your client feels rewarded, they’ll spread the word about how amazing it was to work with someone as talented as you.
Truth is I've held myself back for this exact reason but coming out of my comfort zone and worked with people and doing phenomenal work where the people who i've worked with before would jump to work with me in a heartbeat. My Advice, Build bridges and fake it to you make it and be genuine while doing it. Most importantly be earnest about solving the problems you've set out to and watch your career bloom.
His weakness is sometimes coming off as arrogant and unempathetic. Nevertheless, I appreciate all his many strengths especially making these videos others can learn and grow from. 'A Brand is not what you say it is, but what others say it is'
I think I can safely say that your content has given me more insight into the design world and motivation than what I learned in the last 3 years of design school. Keep the videos coming! :)
Expertise level of Creativity : 1 - Tactical Level : graphic & visual. 2 : Interaction Level : conversation, discussion, relational. 3 : Strategic Level : Branding, Perception, stimulation. As young guns, i used to think that visual is everything. As times goes by, i learn strategic level of creativity is to solve complex problems. When you to try to solve complex (Level 3) problems, that will include interaction and tactical level.
I recently found this channel, an I can't stop watching it. This video helped me tremendously. I have been experiencing something extremely similar. As someone who is young and doesn't have as much experience, I find it hard to evaluate and convey my worth to clients. The problem I have the most is undervaluing myself. When I work on a project, I usually feel like I'm faking it. Even though I know I am completely capable, I get that feeling of "who am I to do this" or "why should anyone listen to my opinion."
You Sir, are a magician. Your words are like spells. Just like Odyyseus I feel like getting dragged into an underworld only that, I would mind, getting my ears waxed. I wish you and your team and everybody watching all the best having full faith in the fact that you can achieve anything you truly desire. Master Chris Do, the alchemist who turns lead to gold. Show us what you are capable of and lead the way.
What a great video! Listen guys at the end of the day it comes down to experience. You’re doubting yourself because you’re saying to yourself “I don’t have that much experience compared to others” WHO CARES! Just get out there and DO! Continue to master your craft. Do what chris said and don’t be afraid to share your perspective. If you just stick with it the inevitable will present itself and you’ll wake up one day and you’ll know you’re a badass lol! Just keep at it! Focus your thoughts on what you DO have not what you DONT!
I'm an ACCD from 2000 and this is absolutely true. We focus on design and forget the business side. Know your worth and don't be afraid to fail or lose a client. It's part of the learning process. The only rule is to always give your best work/design because you can always look back and say you produced your best and the client didn't have the vision/budget/integrity or wsa just cheap to pay you what you were worth. But your work will eventually bring clients who will pay for your skill/worth.
@16:01 that silence when Chris said "I have none (weaknesses)...LOL that silence said "emmmm I could spot a few...." LOL!!! It's all good. Love Futur's content, NEVER DISAPPOINTED...always both education, inspirational and motivational!!!! Best channel on UA-cam within this niche!!! By far. There's NO one I know and a team dropping such VALUE each and every time. Also they are not trying to desperately BUILD a list...(even though that list grows) or bombarding you with CTA's, even though they have them (online courses, Chris' tours), it's done SO WELL, there's NO RESISTANCE to wanting to purchase, because by the time I see an offer from their channel, or an Ad, I'M ALREADY A LOYAL CONVIINCED FOLLOWER, that Futur has EXCEPTIONAL VALUE, and I NEED everything they are selling. I love TEACHING....I love speaking....I've been to different countries around the world, and I HOPE one day I can make a living just teaching! Im 41 yrs old
I always believe that everyone has a story to tell, I always wonder who wants to hear me. Just do it and grow, not just audience but also on your journey.
I had submitted a question on the lat round of submissions, and the first designer asked the same thing in a much simpler, cleaner way. I greatly appreciate that
My perspective on weaknesses is that there are none. It always depends on the perspective and the circumstances. Chris gave this great example where he turn 'being young' from a weakness to a strength and I believe the same can be done for any trait. Looking for details all the time is a good trait as accountant but might get you stuck as when you have to focus on the big picture as a CEO. Being funny all the time might not be suited in a situation where you have to make serious decisions. So, there are only traits or preferences that fit better in some circumstances than in others. The art is to know how and when to use these traits and to be aware of the consequences.
Thank you Chris, I'm from Nigeria and I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology. I recently realized that my passion is in design and business. Coming across this Channel has been a cause for Joy 😂 for months now. Thanks for being here for us. This video was helpful because I I've started Logo Design already.
@@xo_kryptoknight4147 @@xo_kryptoknight4147 Wow. That's interesting... 😃. How did you begin to reinvent yourself? Cuz for me, I feel like there's a lot I need to know in design and business, so it feels like I wasted my time in college 😢
@@mosesdabah well I was very lucky to have found an inside sales role in the pharma industry! I can practice my sales skills without feeling like I "wasted" my degree. On the side, I'm working on trying to grow on Instagram and learning more about entrepreneurship :) what are you currently doing?
I get what he's saying about trying to look like the professional charging a lot being/looking so young. Although I agree your work will speak for itself, you can't always expect people just to find you through your work online. You Will have to visit businesses, set up meetings and sell yourself especially when your coming up. My best advice for his question would to look professional and be confident when your meeting with people. Have a portfolio to show for and never negotiate on your prices because you lower your worth at that point. You don't need every job you need the right ones.
That's the best video I've come across as a 17-year-old, overexcited guy looking to become like Chris Do in a short span of time. It was overcomplicated at first, but now I've learned that, in short, time heals everything. Don't rush or overthink-just do it! & KEEP GOING
In my opinion “documenting” and sharing the journey to learning, is a threat to actually doing deep work that will develop the skills and depth you need to have something to say later.
You really don't understand that doing is the only way to improve until it clicks in your brain. Thanks for being a mentor repeating the message that we all hear and understand at our own pace! #dothework
this a big problem with school, all teachers say to be broad and not focus on one path, but once you go out to the job world you need to clearly go for one direction UI, Logo, digital, Print, yes they are interchangeable, also school seams like they have teachers that just are there for the pay check and are not there to help students grow or achieve a job
Mr. Chris Do, at first glance, is the type of mentor we think we typically get in 9-5 job. We generally hate and cringe at what they say and look past through it. Maybe because, we think we know better. It's okay to think that way, this is a media platform, UA-cam, we can investigate and learn further of Chris. Even if his exact words are said by other speakers gazillion times. What sets Chris apart from them is how convincingly, intimidatingly confident he is at what he says! That's why some haters leave batshit comments here, that what he says is just bull. The problem why we have this perspective, some mentors only show sh*t at the surface, copy others, and doesn't encourage growth nor exemplify this internally and outwardly with themselves. I don't like mentors like Gary Vee, because as much as he's frank, he doesn't show empathy to the struggle of others or how they process things. I thought Chris Do was the same cookie as Gary. Yet, Chris' genuinely LISTENS, and his words are truth bombs. Being Asian, and I think Asians as most of his audience too, he learned the biz the hard way. There's a sense where I need to reach out to him. You think he's mundane and apathetic, then you realize Chris is just secretly a Zen Master. He gives you the real world and how it's crazy and you should definitely not conform to the negative and the mediocrity, and he's got an insane skill of analysis. He always say we should all work hard towards our goal, competitively!!! Invest our time to our passions. Chris listens the most in a room full of people that's why he shimmers like a freaking Buddha. And you dress extremely cool btw Chris
I'm specializing in visual identity for healthcare and this is exactly what I needed right now. If I had one thing to say for all you guys, it's that people call you because they think you know more than they do on a specific problem. Find the big issues for you to solve for the client and you will be confident about the true value of your work.
New challenge for myself and other young creatives out there: take in an hour of The Futur team’s content a day. Lets improve and hone our skills along the way.
13:12 - Totally spoke to me for where I'm at right now. Thank you @chris and @thefutur (just turned 35 yesterday and I still feel I have so much to learn in this game). Taking notes...
Chris you are a good guy and this is so useful for designers/artists who are starting a career. Big like for Futur, share the knowledge to others, only then knowledge has the real impact and usefulness.
I feel that it doesn’t matter how old you are, that you have the opportunity to learn something new from every person you interact with, however big or small small that piece of information is. I learn from students everyday and they are from 11 to 18 years of age, they can approach tasks in a way I’ve not considered, or teach me things that are a part of their culture, even something as small as the meaning of a new slang word being used by them. We are always learning, and age doesn’t matter when it comes to the teacher you learn from if they teach you something you didn’t know and now previously.
It's amazing to see how after all these years of experience Chris still says he's figuring it out. Once you think it's done and there is nothing out there to learn, you start going backwards. Stay curious:) Thank you Thefutur 😁👏👏
As I mentor & coach individuals in their careers + businesses - I often run into them asking "But how do I know I'm not a fraud." I used to spend hours explaining core steps towards confidence development + tracking successes. Now I just send them this video
When i had no portfolio, i had the same skill. But it was hard work to gain trust of people. I worked on my portfolio. Now, the trust aspect is achieved and price negotiation is the only concern. But the client is now willing to negotiate vs no trust at all. And, i get more clients via existing clients.
This is great. I’ve had this exact issue, I want to make UA-cam content, but I don’t feel qualified. Now, I’ll just bring people along and share as I learn.
That is so true ‘ people are looking for young ideas’. This includes within large corporations (if you want to go that way). These companies receive young fresh perspectives from internship program.
Rhetoricsis the soooooo important..the power of words !!! The words you pick when crafting a sentence can give you an outcome as different as day and night. I like this video a lot. For the longest was under the impression I needed to pick a creative path and I struggled with myself on picking one. My problem is I love being creative PERIOD. I AM A CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVER!!! Thanks Chris!!!
Bad Ass very true - I’ve been learning more about design too, as well as improving my copy writing to be able to better position myself and my services I want to offer.
This is awesome, Chris. You need to do a video with people (like myself) who have been in the industry for 20+ years and are trying to still position themselves as an expert in something after playing the part of Jack of all Trades. I'd love to hear your take on how someone in their 40s can reposition themselves to stay relevant and competitive.
Thank you Chris Do, the future. And, especially thank you for young guns. The question you asked help me a lot!!! Although, I'm 26, I feel like I just start a new life. I resigned 6 month before, and I spent my days in depression. I'm not an expert yet, but I'm finally ready to get back to work, take charge of my life, and make the gap between reality and dream closer. I am preparing for having my own business and join the pro group. I believe that you're waiting for every young people. Thank you for being there, and sharing the sunshine.
12:23 I find very interesting when people who are learning something shares what she/he has being doing because usually they have a lot of enthusiasm and are discovering older resources (books, people keen to that area of interest) as well as new resources because either they go to formal school or read a lot. That's a lot of value. Also you can see in their recent videos how their ideas or concepts about their topic of interest is maturing or shaping for good
I prefer a lot more the life advice than the design ones. I guess people struggle more with their insecurities, doubts, lack of confidence and all that than they do with design and creating pretty graphics. Thank you, Chris, for always helping us! Our big brother haha
Best video!! I am 19 and was having a hard time getting clients on Fiverr! Now, I am motivated to remake my Gigs better for future clients that await my service! I will comment again later when I get my first client!
That’s great advice - if you’re really good in something. That doesn’t mean that you don’t improve in your game over time, it also means that you have to have something that industries want. Money is exchange for time - Momo from Michael Ende comes to mind. Grey Men suck up life energy from people who become addicted to quick gratification and high salaries. In the end this is an infinite game and we are all meant to cease at some point.
For anyone snuggling and frustrated...when you can just sit and listen to the advice given, without all the preconceived assumptions and concerns running through your head, many times the answer is just right there in front of you. Chis is giving some golden advice here and it just seems like some are too stuck in their head to actually listen. The best way to learn and elevate yourself is to trust the teacher, assume you know nothing, and just listen.
your weakness is your strength, referring to your mind because you can make the conscious choice of perceiving something as one or the other. Eventually it will manifest..
I made a video on my channel called: "My designer career journey" . Def UX/UI is big. I switched to that from studying architecture & industrial design, getting random design jobs that were not super related to my 2 degrees, being unemployed a few times. I didn't have direct academic UX/UI experience, I had done a couple of websites - that's it. I built up my professional confidence, worked on believing in myself, saw my value and worth, that me asking many questions and the RIGHT questions and connecting the dots was of great value and I jumped into it and now recruiters are chasing me for once AND I freelance too on top of it. I don't just build e-commerce websites, honestly Wix does a better job at that than me, and that would bore me. I am still missing technical aspects but that's the least important part. I work on complicated projects (car tech, medical applications, train track applications, etc.) and understanding that and boiling down the goals of the project to best suit the users. I'm excited for everyone to embark on their journey, a big thing is believing in yourself.
Thank you so much for doing this Chris. This has been my issue for a long time.and there was no one I could even ask anybody about this kind of issue.just cut all my cheap works. I'm still worried but at least I feel good. Thank u again.
Thank you, Chris and Futur team for another great video that answered another question in my head. I'm really glad that I am not the only one feeling that way, I definitely relate to the young guns! 😁

Welcome to the Futur
Mark Yates love it!! You’re on point!!! 👊👊
Someday I wanna be interviewed by Chris in The Futur.
Welcome to the Futur
@@thefutur Thanks
I relate to this so much. I studied biochemistry but now I realize I'm really passionate about business and want to create content
On the side, I'm working on trying to grow on Instagram and learning more about entrepreneurship :) what are you currently doing?
wow..I love that..."I dont think I have a weakness" really strong
I just want to thank you cris for doing this to us young generation. It means a lot!!!
After 2 years, I needed to hear this again. Thanks guys ❤️
I love the positivity and the change of perspective! Your videos get me super inspired, thank you for bringing so much quality content ⭐️
That's the best video I've come across as a 17-year-old, overexcited guy looking to become like Chris Do in a short span of time. It was overcomplicated at first, but now I've learned that, in short, time heals everything. Don't rush or overthink-just do it! & KEEP GOING
When you asked "WHY ARE YOU GUYS TALKING TO ME RIGHT NOW?" I lost my shxt LOL....YOU SIR ARE MORE THAN INSPIRING, Thank you.
#dothework
The entire episode is great but this section here spoke to me the most. Keep up the great content the Futur!
Chris, you’re incredible at putting things into perspective in such a down to earth way. Thank you
Thank you. I Appreciate it!
I was wondering this exact question as im working to become specialized
admitting your humble beginnings and hustling your way up is better and more rewarding than trying to portray a "not yet achieved persona"
this a big problem with school, all teachers say to be broad and not focus on one path, but once you go out to the job world you need to clearly go for one direction UI, Logo, digital, Print, yes they are interchangeable, also school seams like they have teachers that just are there for the pay check and are not there to help students grow or achieve a job
I found at the end I tought myself through videos, and youTube, Love #theFutur, thanks #ChrisDo
Find the big issues for you to solve for the client and you will be confident about the true value of your work.
good niche, design is truly needed there
New challenge for myself and other young creatives out there: take in an hour of The Futur team’s content a day. Lets improve and hone our skills along the way.
Sounds good to me
Hi saw your comment. I'm interestin in what you're doing? How old are you?
13:12 - Totally spoke to me for where I'm at right now. Thank you @chris and @thefutur (just turned 35 yesterday and I still feel I have so much to learn in this game). Taking notes...
You’re very welcome.
Chris you are a good guy and this is so useful for designers/artists who are starting a career. Big like for Futur, share the knowledge to others, only then knowledge has the real impact and usefulness.
Yay!!
Stay curious:)
Thank you Thefutur 😁👏👏
I’m never done learning.
And when I grow up,, I want to be Chris Do. Very nice mentor, Bro!
Thank you
Why is Chris the essence of pure confidence
Haha
Because this is what bullshit artists know how to do best.
You’re very welcome.
Bad Ass very true - I’ve been learning more about design too, as well as improving my copy writing to be able to better position myself and my services I want to offer.
thank you man! whole video you're talked to myself. And you helped me a lot!! thanks!
Glad I could help!
Yesssssssssss!
Thank you for being there, and sharing the sunshine.
my pleasure Ting!
Oh man the definition of Chris as the big brother that we never had is fantastic! So true, made me laugh out loud ahah! Great video as always guys
I really needed to hear that! I just started my youtube channel but was struggling to find value in my content. Thank you for motivating me💛
Love you Chris. Thanks for following yourself and being honest
You hit the nail on the head by saying that they won’t get experience overnight but with good help then can shortcut 20 years into 6.
I m not sure the video answered the title s question...but thank god you exist and help people
Thanks 🙏
12:23 I find very interesting when people who are learning something shares what she/he has being doing because usually they have a lot of enthusiasm and are discovering older resources (books, people keen to that area of interest) as well as new resources because either they go to formal school or read a lot. That's a lot of value. Also you can see in their recent videos how their ideas or concepts about their topic of interest is maturing or shaping for good
i always know this answer, be patient..
but just so hard! when u want a better future
I prefer a lot more the life advice than the design ones. I guess people struggle more with their insecurities, doubts, lack of confidence and all that than they do with design and creating pretty graphics. Thank you, Chris, for always helping us! Our big brother haha
You’re very welcome. More life advice coming to you.
Pure Gems ! Thank you for sharing with us !
Being patient is the key to this game and actually in life.
How do i like this video twice??? You answered a whole lot of questions.
Thanks
What a goldmine of great insights and mindset shifts!
your weakness is your strength, referring to your mind because you can make the conscious choice of perceiving something as one or the other. Eventually it will manifest..
Dayum this video is just unbelievable! Lots of questions we had were answered exactly how we needed. Thanks for the great work guys, keep it up!
Such a good video. This can be applied to all fields. I'm an Agriculturalist and I find much wisdom within these videos!
Thank you so much for doing this Chris. This has been my issue for a long time.and there was no one I could even ask anybody about this kind of issue.just cut all my cheap works. I'm still worried but at least I feel good. Thank u again.
Loved this Chris, thank you!
I'm so grateful to you, Chris Do. Thank you for this. I appreciate you.
5 years later, this video is still relevant😌
4 years later this video is relevant
Your channel is just gold!
Thank you
Thank you, Chris and Futur team for another great video that answered another question in my head. I'm really glad that I am not the only one feeling that way, I definitely relate to the young guns! 😁
I love seeing young people out there with a different, non-jaded perspective. Sometimes we need those fresh eyes out there!
agreed.
Confidence is the *key*
The Futur is Gold
Just love listening to Chris talk, his confidence is just 🔥🔥🔥
(Well you do share your weaknesses with us lol, you're not a robot, I feel you as a complete human personally)
Thank you uncle Chris for everything you share 🥰 You make me want to improve and be better for years now! You gave me courage in hard times and I'm still getting HUGE value watching your content, even videos I've seen multiple times... thank you senpai🙏 wish you love, happiness, passion and all the good stuff you want
You are becoming my favorite mentor, Chris Do!! Your advices hits bull's eye.
Chris, you such a blessing to a lot of us. what a time to be alive! God bless you.
