Patch version 1.3 has been released! It fixes an issue in time trial with DK Jr. as well as makes Rainbow Road a bit easier on the AI side.
WOW this is the closest to Super Mario Kart 2 we've ever seen!

@mythosinfinite6736 I feel Super Circuit more like what Star Fox Command is to og Star Fox, different hardware and totally new graphics. This is more like Star Fox 2, same console, engine and enhanced graphics from the first game. Just my opinion, ofc 🤔

@@SenZo816 Nothing too crazy. Some balancing for the second Rice Track and minor edits on a certain track. There is a crash on the BSNES Accuracy core due to the ROM size being not correct. I will also attempt to make the Jungle Ruins track main road less busy so its easier to follow.

@@APEXGuerilla ah yes, I forgot to use the snes utility to fix the checksum. I’ll update the patch later this day.

He was off color in the oringal game because he used luigis color pallete
Those sprites are sooo cute Man. Also The tracks are amazing so far. Just noticed on 0:46 Donkey Kong have his OG sprites, found a easteregg.
Actually, not exactly! You see, each track tints the racers with the lightning of the background, so this specific combination makes it seem the brown is the original color that DK J.R. had!

I've finished playing this rom hack and all i've got to say is that it is fantastic, the tracks are incredible, the graphics are gorgeous, and the music is amazing as well. Good job to you and all the other people who worked on this rom hack!

Love the idea of different ambiences for the stages. Even if a track shares a tileset with another, the different color palette makes it feel different!

the crazy community around snes is the proof that this console and this version of mario kart are the bests. i wish there were an easy way to found this kind of hidden gems.
Very promising SMK hack, gridattack! Can confirm this works fine not just on Snes9x but also on Nintendo's official emulators (aka Virtual Console) on Wii and New 3DS! Only thing is some tracks are somewhat hard? Anyways, great work!

This game is actually going to be good now
It's really great - apart from the points system and a few of the tracks (namely those jungle ones) being perhaps a little too difficult in 150cc cup mode. Re: the points. A big part of the fun of Mario Kart for me growing up was eliminating from the top 4 a character who had been irritating me throughout a race by throwing stuff (usually Yoshi or Princess) or driving into me and stunning me (Luigi). Managing to slip them with a banana on the last lap and seeing their sad face at missing out on the points was my favourite part of Mario Kart, lol. The new ranking takes this away, whilst also making it too easy to advance to the next race. I'd love to see a patch to change it back to the exact same points system as the original. Otherwise, really great work. A genuine sequel to a classic game
@@williamdavidwilson6890 thanks for the comment. And no, there is no plan to do that. You might find it “easy” but the idea is to give chance to everyone to experience the tracks. Not advancing was just really a legacy old game design. This also helps make the hard mode more manageable as well. You can still mess up the CPU positions here with well placed items, and there are more tracks here that feature a loop jump.
@@gridatttack hmm isn't that the whole point of lives though? That you have to use them to replay the race if you fail to qualify the first time? Eventually you will qualify/work out how to make top 4 minimum.
@@williamdavidwilson6890 of course, but considering the game is overall harder, it’s more frustrating if it stayed like that. I would have removed lives all together if I didn’t had the song of ranking out already done. There is a reason this mechanic stayed in the first 3 games; at this point the retry on Mario Kart is a legacy and obsolete thing.

This came up in my UA-cam feed. This looks really nice. I did want to know if this would work on bsnes-hd? The original SMK works without mods in widescreen, and I wondered if this did as well?

It should work, I used BSNES with HD mode 7 to record footage for this trailer. However I am aware that there is an issue with the BSNES Accuracy core. A patch will be released next week that addresses that (and other things)

This is INSANE... there is almost nothing that you didn't customize in this. The amount of work that went into this... how long did this take you?
@@naejimba it’s hard to quantify. I started modding the game over 10 years ago, as you can see on my older videos and how treacle have progressed. It was a period of on and off working, and there was. A huge gap in the middle where I worked and finished another hack, Sour Music Kart. Most of the time took in play treating the tracks. I tool about 3 months to work on and decide the custom palettes each track will use, as for the graphics and creation of the themes, add roughly 8 ish months? Music took the most amount it time, since it wasn’t me making it, just directing it; the back and forth took about 2 years overall. Cants really quantify with exact time; but a general time would

But the track at the bottom of thr screen doesn't look as sharp as in the trailer
It will never be as sharp as in the video. I used the emulator BSNES with mode 7 HD filter to upscale the game to record footage.

Do you mean a cartridge that acts like a standard game, or a flash cart, which allows you to load games from an external SD card?

Not sure; all I know is that you need a donor SMK Cart and then replace it with an EEPROM that has this game written on it and replace it no the cart itself!

Out of scope. It’s very hard to add new characters, and I didn’t want to replace anybody because it has been done before. Maybe for a future version :P

No. I thought to do that but it means using existing and not original songs. We decided to went with the approach of being as close as possible to the base game.

No, there are no new characters added. The only unlockables are Mirror Mode and the Hard Mode.

SNES emulator, everdrive cartridge that lets you play rom files on real hardware, modded snes mini, raspberry pi, take your pick.

how did you modify the ranking system?
Combination of things; Epic edit lets you set the points, but things like making the music play and the character heads animate took some other hex editing.

@@jimmyle3132 there is a custom patch that allows for everyone to qualify. You can find it at the SMK Workshop discord. However that patch only allows you to not rank out. Making it so the music and the chaarcter icons animate is another change.

Yes it does! That's how I tested it on original hardware!
@gridatttack weird, it works on my emulator but won't go past the gridattack logo on my fxpak pro. I'm currently on the latest firmware 1.11. The checksums were perfect.
Also, I tried on my super nt and regular snes.

No. It was never in the plans to replace anybody and adding new characters is too complicated (only SMKDX managed to but they rewrote how the game works)
