In the last Nintendo direct, we got our first look at Super Mario Party: Jamboree, and it looks great! Although NDCube has somewhat fumbled the series in the past, it looks like they've finally got it right with this new entry! So, in this video, I go over what went wrong with those past attempts NDCube made with the series, and how Jamboree seems to be addressing those issues!

My biggest issue with the newer games is their lack of chaos. I loved how many wacky items there were in the original game to help balance skill and luck.
I agree, I really hope we get a bunch of new items in jamboree! The old items definitely contributed a lot to how great the old style of games were, so I really hope they either bring back some classics or make all new ones! Thanks for watching!!
I love how Jamboree is a literal synonym of Party - so this is really called Super Mario Party Party :P

Incredibly excited for this game. Lately me and my friends have been playing Mario Party 2. Despite the 20+ year old game and the 30+ year old TV, it's one of the funnest gaming experiences we've had together. Great to see the algorithm rewarding you once again bro.

My main hopes are for certain playable characters (Pom Pom, Boom Boom, Pauline, any or all of the Koopalings) and a story mode

Finally! Someone else agrees with the story mode! Mario Party's story modes are always fun, and knowing how they're going back to their roots, it would be so exciting to see that they can do story mode.
My biggest issue with superstars was the items and how they were given out. Every shop having the same items meant there was less RNG to play around and it came down to who has the most coins when golden pipes showed up except for Horror land and Peach's birthday cake which didn't have them in the shops.
Yeah I really hope they fix the item balancing in jamboree, it was one of the few aspects of superstars that was a departure from the older games. Thanks for watching!!
Most of Hudsonsoft’s former employees actually went on to work at NDCube so it’s got nothing to do with lacking talent. It was probably an issue with company work ethic. Nintendo games in general were becoming rather safe in that time period, likely since Nintendo was struggling.
I’m actually really surprised to hear that, since it seemed as soon as the dev switched so did the style of the Mario party games. Looking at the release date though, it came out pretty close to paper Mario sticker star, so it’s incredibly possible this was actually one of the first titles affected by the Mario mandates and that had something to do with why the gameplay style shifted. @@no-wiihook9817Amiibo party function? The only function I know of after scanning an Amiibo is receiving a “sticker,” or getting 100 “party points” (which I have forgotten what they’re even for?). I think my Amiibo display shelf is more of an “Amiibo party” than a bunch of digital stickers with zero in-game benefit (aside from collecting them and repositioning them as you like) or being rich in “party points” without having anything to spend them on (or nothing memorable at least). I honestly wish there was an actually useful Amiibo function in-game, like let me scan a Piranha Plant, and then have a couple Piranha Plants sprout up someplace on the map, creating an obstacle for all players. I also wish they’d release a line of Mario Party Amiibos, I’d kill for a Monty Mole Amiibo, and then if scanned it would pop up some mole hills on the map, which players could use to tunnel from one spot to another. The Amiibo functions could be so cool, and be actual game elements, but no, we get…stickers. …Sigh.
the best solution would be, bring more maps and characters to mario party superstars. It could be like at Mario Kart Game. As Member, you will get the new stuff. For me it was the best Mario Party Game, but just more content required.
While I could see that working, I much prefer the route they've taken with making a whole new game, since this allows them to have more creative freedom rather than trying to fit new content into the formula that already exists in superstars. That's just my opinion though. Thanks for watching!!

The first time the investment mechanic appeared was in Mario Party 7 (Last Game Series Game Cube) with the Windmiville map.
It's in my top 3 favorite maps in the series

Another thing that I'm hopeful for is that this becomes an "ultimate" version. Where we can just purchase add-ons/DLC for extra boards, mini games, characters, etc. Similar to mario kart, this is one of those games where the base game and formula is great. No need to keep re-inventing the wheel! All people want is added features, not whole new games with weird mechanics.
Although I would love for the game to get DLC, I still really hope the next console gets a new Mario party rather than an enhanced version of jamboree. Although this game looks to have a lot of potential, I think I’d still prefer it if they kept innovating with new games that follow the formula jamboree establishes instead of limiting themselves with what can be done just by altering the original game. If they were willing to do that, they'd have done it with Superstars, like I'm sure they received much feedback to do.
I really liked the premise of Super Mario Party, but I often avoided playing it because it only supports a single joy con, and no pro controller or handheld mode. Then when Superstars came WITH support for all controllers, I stuck with that games and haven’t played the other one since.
Pretty much same. Super Mario party had the right idea of trying to go back to the classic formula, but it changed so much of the fundamentals that it really failed at that. Superstars though I’ve played a ton of with friends because it didn’t have those issues and it had pro controller support! Thanks for watching!!

Considering that the last Mario party games were an absolute train wreck, it's no surprise that NDCube is now trying to get old Mario party boards along with the new ones, which is not boring or unproductive, though it just leaves a hole for new party boards which can have the potential to be better but are over shined by the old ones...
Honestly I think the new boards look even better than the old ones, but I understand the reasoning that they should have at least some boards from the old games that way they have at least some content that they already know for sure works. Thanks for watching!!

This really does look like a true return to the peak of the series! I grew up on the Wii, so I never really had the opportunity to play much of the GameCube games, but I still love Mario party 8 and I really hope this game finally ends up surpassing it! Thanks for watching!!

I’ve always loved Mario Party and while I’m not an expert and I did skip the Wii U games due to not having a Wii U, I do want to give my thoughts on what might make it better:
•Being able to modify the amount of coins needed to buy a star. This would be great to be able to make the game more competitive with stars costing more and make mini games and strategy more important.
•have 10 boards minimum. While I realize how hard it is to make a board, if Super MP taught me anything it’s that having too little boards (and easy ones at that) kills my desire to play the game again.
•Have more whacky items. I remember loving being able to buy the boo bell or bowser suit to make the gameplay much more chaotic, which really made me sad when I played Super MP and saw the paltry selection of purchaseables.
•add DLC. While I’ve never been a big fan of DLC since I should be able to enjoy my game without having to pay more for it after I bought it, I’d prefer that to the experience just ending there and once again Super MP kinda made that something that I want.
But those are my thoughts and even that last one is only something I’d want if we’re given an incomplete feeling experience like Super again.
I completely agree with most of your points, but I think 10 boards minimum is a little bit overkill. That would really increase development time a lot and by extension the time between games, and I really like that we’re getting a new Mario party every few years, since while a board offers a unique experience within the game, a brand new game can be even more so with new mechanics and side modes. Same goes for DLC, while I would love DLC to be added, I’d only really want it if it doesn’t delay the next game or cause the next game to have less content. That’s just my opinion though. I do love the idea of more wacky items though, and, from what we know of jamboree, it looks like there will be quite a few in that game! (As I mention in the next video which I’m working on rn) Thanks for watching!!
I guess I'm the crazy one, because I legitimately enjoyed (and still enjoy) Super Mario Party. We played a LOT of it and it still has some of the best minigames in recent history.
Not at all! While I think super is one of the worst in the series, that doesn’t necessarily make it a bad game. I’ve had some fun with it each time I’ve played it, just considerably less than in the rest of the Mario party games. It’s only really disappointing in the context of the other Mario party games, which are superb. Thanks for watching!!

I am a little concerned about Jamboree just because it has the Super Mario Party title in it. If they just did DLC for Superstars, I think that would have been much much better. However, I am hopeful Jamboree will live up to what has been shown off so far. 🙌🙌😄

It’s 2024. They should have a few maps from all the previous Mario parties+ a few brand new ones. Should even have an online mode with others that you can rank up and earn collectibles etc.

For me, the biggest problem with super Mario party was that the game boards were too small… but I loved the fact that mini games were with joycons, also the other game modes like team mode, the river mode and the rhythm mode (but as you said, they weren’t that diverse in mini games… even more the rhythm mode) and other of the biggest problems was that they didn’t added online mode until before they announced Mario party superstars, and it was a poor online mode (btw I didn’t like superstar because its just a remake of the old ones… so I prefer to play the original Mario party 3 on the n64 online emulator)

I only had 2 complaints for Superstars, not enough boards, and I personally think you should be allowed to have item customization / selection. Never been a fan of the golden pipe and I often have enough coins to buy them frequently, my friends and I typically agree to just not buy them as we feel it takes away from having to plan out your route, and makes it so you don’t have to worry about anything else.
Other than those small complaints, I was so happy with superstars and already happy to have 7 maps in Jamboree

Superstars being better than Super is a hot enough take, but River Rafting being the best game mode in Super is the hottest of takes.
I understand me saying river survival is better than the main game is a hot take, but I’m pretty sure superstars being better than super is a fairly common take. Regardless, it’s just my opinion, and I really just hope jamboree ends up being better than both of them so all fans of the series can enjoy it without it being too polarizing! Thanks for watching!!

My first ever Mario party game I played was 9 and I really enjoyed it. One of my favorite parts was the story and that’s something I miss after player superstars.

All I want is dlc with more boards. Like sure, charge me $30 for 5 more boards and a ton more minigames. Superstars REALLY missed the mark there being a “retro” MP game, with only 5 boards and not having dlc for more.

My favourites are mario party 4 and 7.
I feel after that they took away lot of creativity.
Mario party 7 had the idea of setting traps for players. Mario party 4 had probably the coolest maps.

That was also the problem I couldn't pick up on with SMP's board. I had no idea that was the methodology behind them and that was the reasoning behind also not playing it. The grid based boards give me the impression it was stale and I just could not

I’ll be honest, while I respect the idea I completely disagree. Free games need to be monetized somehow, and typically that’s through microtransactions, something I REALLY don’t want to see in nintendo games since they tend to be pretty scummy with how they target the consumers. Plus, there’s less incentive to have a game in a complete state at launch if the plan is to have frequent updates going forward. That’s just my opinion though. Thanks for watching!!
Mario Party Superstars is one of my favorite mario party's. Super Mario Party just wasnt great. Small maps, and it didnt have any challenges. Super excited for jamboree.

The biggest problem of superstars was that coins are way to easy to get. So you always have enough and with how easy it is to get an golden pipe the stars where way to easy to get.

@@MarkCrowCrow I'll give you the quick rundown. Island tour was the prequel to super Mario party (bad). Star rush was okay for a bit but got old from the gimmick. Finally top 100 should've included actual boards to play.

Sadly, it looks like that won’t be the case because she appears elsewhere in the game. Her and boom boom host some of the games in minigame bay (not positive if that’s the name of the area or not but I don’t feel like pulling up my next video script rn, where the Japanese website of the game has been translated). I really wanted them playable since I’m a huge fan of 3D land and 3D world, but I’m glad they’re at least in the game in some capacity! Thanks for watching!!
Super Mario Party was something I had a lot of fun with. Especially when playing in co-op. I hope Jamboree has co-op

I really enjoyed Super Mario Party initially. Got all 5 gems and mostly enjoyed it. Then I got pretty bored doing the same 4 boards, and my biggest gripe is with the mini game selections. I figure it wouldn't be too difficult to fix this, but even on my shorter games I'd play the same exact mini game multiple times. It really killed it for me. Then Superstars took Boo away from me, which really sucked and it felt like reselling old games. It's great that we got to see those boards revamped, I was wanting exactly what Jamboree seems to be

Honestly, I still like Mario Party 9 despite the linear boards needing a few adjustments that neither Island Tour nor 10 fixed entirely. I’d say that 9 and Star Rush have so much potential, but Island Tour only has little potential and 10 has the least out of all. Still, I understand how many people will say otherwise about my opinions on these controversial gameplay changes (it’s the internet after all).
And if I were to make my own party game, it would probably be a polished version of 9 and/or Star Rush so fans can gain a better appreciation for these kinds of gameplay
@@megalo_64 yeah, I can definitely seeing the style introduced in 9 having a lot of potential! It’s like I mentioned in the video, the reason it didn’t work is because it was forced into the preexisting Mario party formula instead of making fully new gameplay mechanics around the car and style of board. A party game in that style could definitely be super fun if it fully did its own thing! Thanks for watching!!
I know this is kind of weird considering Jamboree is coming out soon, but is it still worth getting Super Mario Party?
@@DanYTfun in my opinion, absolutely not. I don’t think it was even worth it at launch to be honest. Now Mario party superstars, I think that game is great, and while I believe jamboree will surpass it, I think it’s definitely worth it to get it if it ever goes on sale
I want more boards in a title. MP1 STILL leads the pack at 8 boards, I still don't understand why we can't have at least that many boards in one title. After that I agree and want the boards to be bigger, it is fun to wander around Western Land, if NDCube thinks that it is too big then increase the options to increase movement which they did, you can have a dedicated Movement Item Space that gives you an item based on your position on the board relative to the star and your place and if you are winning then you only get 3 coins. I also want rare items to come back since they offer a TON of potential to swing the game in your favor, you could make the Choose your target Warp Block a rare item and there are a lot of other ideas for rare items.
Mini games also need to tone down the general coin payout, keep 1st prize at ten but only give like 3-5 coins to 2nd while 3rd and 4th get nothing. There are a lot of games where this doesn't even apply like survival games where 2 or even all 4 players can win or Bouns games where you can get over 10 coins easy. And board events that require payment need to be toned up, so it feels like something happened. Mario Party needs to embrace that "destroying friendships" again.
I absolutely agree about the boards! I'd love to see some larger ones with movement-based items, like you mentioned, and it looks like we're getting that in rollem raceway (I think that's the name I'm not 100% sure) in jamboree! As for the target warp block, that sounds a lot like the super warp block from superstars, which I would love to see return along with hopefully a bunch of other rare items! I do understand the issues with the coin payouts for minigames (it kinda disrupts the game's economy a little bit, though not nearly as eggregiously as the 10 coin star price from super) but I think what would be best is having a toggle for the match difficulty, with hard mode having the coin payout from minigames you suggested along with more coins being stolen with boo, no lucky spaces, etc, to make it play more like the classic titles. Easy mode could then be like what they have in superstars, that way fans of both styles are happy! Thanks for watching!!

I like super Mario party but it’s hard for me to come back to it because of how safe and easy it is. Especially with super stars. With that said, I’ll never get rid of super Mario party and am PUMPED for Jamboree!

Upon seeing the trailer I was initially disappointed as I thought super Mario party was terrible. However, the more I research, it seems to be going more traditional and along the lines of superstars, albeit with few mechanics from SMP. Those said mechanics (motion control) can be turned off. So that right there saves it.
That being said, superstars had a few flaws which hopefully they’re addressing. It bothered me you can’t have two / three people on one console may have up with randoms online. It was great otherwise and hopefully they bring back if you disconnect can hop right back in.
The boards are a big deal and seemed to address it with 7 in total. One more (from Mario party 3) would really raise my respect but hey, 7 is better than 5. Hopefully they’re good but they surprisingly look pretty good. Big and diverse.
The coin economy needs fixing. Too many lucky spaces in superstars I knew that’d be an issue. 1 vs 3 mini games weren’t good and gave too many coins with the bonus mini games. But an abundance of gold pipes made it too easy.
This leads to items. While good in superstars and bad in SMP, there needs to be a little more variety I think. Looks like they are brining some good ones back though. Very curious what this shell does.
Lastly, a story mode would be pretty nice. This hub world indicates that is possible maybe another mini game island? Not crazy about the 20 player online but that’s fine to include it why not.
Mini games. These obviously need to be good while the say 110 you know a bunch are going to be motion controls, which I will instantly turn off enough with the motion bs. And then there’s 8 player ones which don’t sound that great. So how many will that leave us with a “total” of remains to be seen.
So basically this needs to be more traditional rather than taking on the “super” name. It seems to be going in that direction while maybe trying to please whatever small percentage of SMP fans are there. I like what I see but only time will tell hopefully they do not F this up and disappoint like past few times (mainly with SMP)
One thing that could maybe help fix the economy are new unlucky spaces, which have been spotted in the trailer, and I hope we'll be getting some new items as well! Also I completely agree on a story mode, that would be sick! Thanks for watching!!

That’s one thing I’m really happy they brought back from super Mario party, being able to play as the enemies is so cool! We're finally seeing ND Cube coming up with a brand new Mario Party that looks very promising for what we've seen so far. Super Mario Party was a step in the right direction, but it was also a step in the wrong direction. Mario Party Superstars was a safe step for ND Cube to learn what made the series great in the first place. And Super Mario Party Jamboree is finally the true return to the series, and it proves that ND Cube are capable of making a good Mario Party.

I feel like, while I would’ve loved DLC for superstars, I think this is the best move. Since they’ve added the retro maps on top of the new ones, jamboree’s board selection is the best in a while, and I’d rather they launch this game in a more complete state than retroactively make superstars a more complete game, though that’s just my opinion. For the Battle spaces or the "VS" spaces as it was in Superstars, I did not care for how they utilized those spaces. I much prefer Battle spaces from the old games that never goes away from the board and the coins that are taken from the players are a set number of 10-50. When playing for a total 12 coins if each player had to pay 3 coins to participate is just ridiculous. The bigger coin payouts are much more rewarding or more impactful if you lose and have to try and get those coins back from winning the minigames or even using Chance Time to your advantage. It looks like they're still VS spaces in Jamboree but hopefully this time, they're staying for the whole game and will not go away after one person lands on it.

I feel like the best option would be to have an option to have either the classic or modern versus spaces, kind of like what they did with the bonus stars, that way everyone’s happy! Partner party is the main mode for Super Mario Party for me and everone I played with, most of whom had played other games in the series, but several were new to Mario Party. Without partner party, Mario Party is just frustrating randomness. The minigames don't matter if you can't actually get to stars because the dice aren't going your way. The other game options in SMP were pretty fun, too, but we've played hundreds of hours of partner party. PLAY ONCE? WTF. But yeah, there are tons of problems with SMP, moatly that it felt unfinished.
So we were stoked for Superstars, but it was a frustrating mess for us. Practically unplayable. Half the characters we loved were taken away, no progrssion or unlocks, no motion controls to be able to hit the die block to roll (probaly the worst overaight, imo), and no partner party. Jamboree seems to be addressing those, but no co-op modes would be devastating
I get that, the character selection was one of the main gripes I had with superstars as well. Although I didn’t really have those other issues with the game, it looks like jamboree is addressing most of them, like you said. Despite me not really enjoying it in super, I actually would love for partner party to return! If they can make it work in a grid-like structure, then I think it has a huge amount of potential! Plus now that it has online from the get-go, it’ll be a lot easier to get into imo, which will also just make it overall better. Thanks for watching!!
I’d personally like to see a return to the themes and character costumes as well as multiple boards. In my opinion 110 mini games does no good with three or four board.

That’s a fair point, but I honestly think it makes sense to have a new game. If they had these two retro boards and also the new ones from jamboree, I’d prefer they put those retro boards in the new game so it’s complete at launch rather than use them to go back and complete a game that’s been out for a few years, and this way sets a precedent for future entries, but that’s just my opinion.
