Greatest hits titles I strongly recommend to anyone with variety in their collections: Metal Gear Solid Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Spider-Man 2000 Final Fantasy VII Ratchet and Clank 2002 Jak X: Combat Racing Soul Calibur III Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution Lego Marvel Superheroes Sonic Generations
Not too long ago I caught Half Price Crooks slippin. They had one of the Dragon Quest games (I can't remember which one, was for either DS or 3DS). $12 flipped it for $60 :D
I personally avoid the 'platinum' and 'greatest hits' versions where possible, but its a great way to get games (especially if they are cheaper). And a cool, more attainable way to go for a "complete" collection. In some cases they may even be the better option, if there was a bug patched in a later revision. Maybe less common in the older days when a disc "going gold" actually meant something, an expensive mistake to correct if it required a recall. With the PS3 onward and the option of patches, that may be less of a concern for now. But if/when the stores go down and access to patches, DLC etc. is blocked, those 'greatest hits' versions may be the more desirable options, with all expansions on disc, the latest patches etc. Saying that though, I played ' Resistance Fall of Man' recently on PS3, when I installed a new internal drive. No update available, so I assumed that was the final version. But apparently the now defunct multiplayer server was used to update the game. So that's a game today, that may be a sign of things to come in future, essentially requiring "custom firmware" to patch the games (or be stuck on v1.0, unable to use old v1.5 etc update backup saves).
Man, the Goodwill stores in my area have 0 games. No games section at Goodwill in Buffalo NY. If by chance one may find a game that's pure luck. Great man i love the ps3(i have 2). Game on!
Take everything physical you can, in a few years there won't be anything physical anymore, everything will be digital, no matter how cheap and silly the game seems, get your hands on it hehe.
