given the context of when and how I started playing, yes, I would have, but I would have been smarter with my purchases. I joined because at the time they had Israel in the works and I have friends that already played the game that were begging me to join the game. the only thing I regret is how much I spent on the game. I also found that spending too much time playing the game actually hurts my performance and thus hurts the grind speed along with the enjoyability of the game. I agree that you shouldn't burn yourself out trying to get to top tier, learn to enjoy low tier and play the game for the sake of enjoying the game. eventually the skill needed to progress a tech tree quickly will come naturally.

had I known the game would be destroyed by brainlets who just ported everything wrong with other games to this one because they lack the niche interest in what WT as a concept could be?
    no, wouldnt have played.

Started playing in 2015 i think. I have a massive amount of matches, i think I’m at 23k now. The game can be frustrating, definitely, but once you find something you enjoy to play, it can become fun. I also play squadron battles, which i honestly think should be pushed/advertised way more by gaijin, they give a real reason to grind vehicles. they are a lot of fun too, especially when you are in a good squad so you know you can rely on all the players.

If I had to go back and do it again with the same knowledge, I would. I know not everyone would agree with me, but this game has honestly done a lot for me. Warthunder really inspired my love of aviation, and now I’m working on my instrument rating on the course to being a pilot. It drove me to learn more about the complex engineering of all sorts of ground, sea, and air vehicles and the history of techniques used for designing such complex machines, even in the modern day. And thirdly, every plane, tank, ship, truck, missile, and map are so incredibly detailed and look/perform incredibly without the high level of complexity required for DCS. While not perfect in terms of accuracy, I would recommend this to any person willing to make/take the time to learn it. I have been more or less maiming this game for almost 10 years now, have countless vehicles, and experience across all game mode from planes to naval and arcade to sim.

the sad reality is that war thunder has a lot of potential. But the developer downright refuses making a good game and would rather spend most their time on plannin out predatory schemes to drain people out of money.

I'm in the same situation. A friend was asking me about it and whether they should play it and I felt super divided. I've enjoyed my time playing for sure, but.....yea. I ended up saying that its great fun if they just wanna fuck around in the ww2 vehicles but to not expect to get any of the shiny top tier stuff unless they are willing to pay in both crazy amounts of time and/or money. Probably both. There's still really nothing else that fills this niche of flight game as well as warthunder does (realistic based but not a fullon sim) so I cant say its a bad game or anything, but it just depends what you want out of it.

I relate to you a lot. I genuinely regret spending money on this game honestly and I wish I could just sell my account to get my money back as much as I had fun playing. I’m an adult now and thinking abt the money I spent makes me sick

What I like about Warthunder is if I'm getting burned out doing planes I'll just go play tanks for a bit then get burnt out doing that and go back to planes or helicopters

I started playing early 2022 because my main games (Minecraft and Fortnite) kinda got boring. I still play them but I wanted something new so I downloaded it without thinking that much. I didn't take the game seriously at first but after I saw people flying jets I got jealous and wanted to have them all. I may be a wallet warrior for buying a $70 jet at level 4 but it really helped me to complete my first tech tree. I wouldn't say that it was a waste of money because I have over 800 matches in it and it really did it's job. It really changed my personality and got me into fighter jets. Now I'm here about to hit level 100 while having one and a half tech trees completed and I can say that War Thunder really turned into my main game. I may not be good at it but sometimes it can be very fun to progress and unlocking new jets. And yes if I could go back in time I would download it again even tho the snail made me addicted and took my soul and money.

Made a new account during the pandemic (my ps4 died and I wasn’t able to link an email and create a passcode, started fresh with fighters instead of bombers for us tech tree and now I’m almost at rank 5 for tanks and aircraft ( bit less than halfway) would do it again only have 600 hours (roughly half of the time I spent the screwing around in custom battles) and sl is a constant problem to me and it’s more grindy than enlisted which I think is perfect for balancing the transactions and playability without burning out

Anyone who plays the game to grind is a fool - I have played Air RB almost exclusively for around three years now (as rags101), have pumped in maybe $60 every 8-10 months in that time and am still at Rank IV in just 2-3 tech trees. I still enjoy the game immensely but still only play maybe 1-2 hours tops every few days, when I am having a crappy loss streak I find that it is far better for my sanity to simply walk away and come back when the base RNG seed is more cooperative.
I have no issue with my money or time spent as IMO people can waste both on literally anything - drugs, artwork, traveling, eating out, Hummel ware or operas. The base question is not "how much did you spend" but "do you feel like you got value", considering what else you like doing and could have done instead.
As to playing one game exclusively for years again I see no issue. I am now retired and do have more time to myself but I have literally been playing computer games since 1979 and in that time have latched on to a single game for years (and years !) at a time - Missile Command, Load Runner, DOOM, Half Life, Operation Flashpoint, World of Tanks, Crusader Kings II and now War Thunder.
I have no doubt some other brain worm will infect me in a few year's time but until then I am just going to enjoy the ride and have fun playing at my low levels.

That's why I quit. Started playing in like 2014/2015. I quit 5-6 month ago. The game is absolute garbage. Just a money grab now. I only kept playing because I literally spent hundreds of dollars and felt like it would be a waste if I didn't play, but I hate the game. It was a chore. There was nothing about the game I liked. I ended up just playing custom Sim battles by myself to get my Flight Sim fix and then I ended up just not playing at all.

If they reverted back to a historically/mostly historically accurate game then yes, but now not even the lower br's are safe from some stupid 40yt newer Gokart that ruins heavies and maps that are designed for robots. The other side is that this game is literally pay to win at this point with a decent amount of overpowered premiums and the fact that crew skills are a thing. Lmao.
