What makes this beat and this song so unique and so SICK is that it's just a beat and bass played backwards and the DJ on the turn tables, and THAT'S IT. Nothing else, no keyboard, no other instruments or sound effects, just a beat backwards and the DJ scratching , and they rapped to that. No other song has ever been made like that. Beastie Boys , the real OG'S AND G.O.A.T'S
Yeah all the old beats sounded so much better back in the 80s and 90s. They were iconic and raw, lotta bass. I hear a good beat sometimes, and maybe it's cause it's harder to be original, but they try stuffing too much into it and it all sounds so similar.
The beat is a reversed 808. To the best of my understanding, MCA came up with the idea and this is the first instance of it on record. It's been used extensively since.
I have the absolute pleasure of growing up during this time. I always have been and continue to be a Beastie Boys fan and I’m 53 years old! They are so bad ass
The Beasties are legend!!! I remember back in high school when I got to borrow my parent’s Ford Aerostar van and driving with my friends blasting my new Licensed To Ill tape on repeat. Still remember every word to every song, in order, to this day. 😂 RIP Adam ❤️
I love the Beasties!!! ❤️🔥 I've still got their "License to Ill" album on vinyl from when it came out. A friend of mine, Michelle, gave it to me in Nov '86, as a 10th birthday present. Thanks, Michelle ;-) ❤
The beat is explained on the wikipedia page for the song. Basically, MCA recorded the beat, flipped it and reversed it. RIH MCA Hold it now Hold it now Hold it now HIT IT
I remember when this jawn dropped. I was in grade school. It was so different but again, during this time in Hip Hop, there were so many songs that dropped that were equally as good and unique. "The New Style" and "Hold it Now Hit It" by the Beasties were also my jams
This was when musicians WERE ARTISTS! They could personally come up with 🧠 and play 🤚🏽beats themselves, ahhh the good 'ol days, I miss art in music, I'll be clear, I miss art & creativity in Rap and Hip-Hop not computerized bs & lyrics have no meaning (well the songs where people actually say words, don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about) '80's & '90's Rap & Hip-Hop will always be the best I guess those artists took all the good ideas! Rock and metal on the other hand is still great each band member comes up with and plays actual instruments themselves now that's something to admire and appreciate
Rick Rubin was beastie boys first DJ. He quit to create Def Jam and immediately signed BB. They then brought in Mix master Mike. Saw them live in 97, sophomore in highschool. Amazing experiences.
LOL I love the beastie boys, I met Mike D once - he was a close talker, but man their music is special AF - nothing like it ever!! Loved your reaction man lol you make me smile 😃
I’m late on the video. But I love the beasties cause they hit all of the marks. Killers beats and mixing board with the drops, the obvious lyrics and that the three of em share the mic beautifully. I grabbed the piano player and punched him in the face. And the sheriff’s after me for what I did to his daughter.
I got to see them in 1992 (Check Your Head tour) in a club-type venue. They started, "NOW......" and tossed the mic into the audience. It was passed around and those lucky enough got to rap a bar. The audience loved it, the band loved it. Everyone knew the words! You probably know it, but "ill" was quite the popular word in the '80s. Between Beasties' License to Ill, and Run-DMC's "You Be Illin'."
Long before the independent army.. the Beastie Boys were undeniably enjoyable. Even for those of us that didn't listen to much between one era and the next
I remember my guys I hung out with back in the early 90s making there own huge speaker boxes out of wood and I at least 2x the back windows literally explode from playing this song at bass competitions 😂... oh the good old days ❤
When we was growing up ⬆️ in the 80s if you had a car 🚘 with some beat in it every hood was bumping this it makes yo speakers 🔊 vibrate everything around factuality
I’m sad to say that I was a heavy metal fan and dismissed these guys until a few years later when Paul’s Boutique hit. Of course I soon realized what a mistake it was. But hey I was 16..
Aerosmith did the same when they recorded Sweet Emotion. They also added a backwards clap and chant "f*ck you Frank" to the track in honor of their original manager who sold them off to Leber Krebs.
The Beasties music was all personality, they imitated NO One. I consider them second only to Run DMC as the best rap act ever. And unlike most rappers, they were actual musicians.
@@snakeinthegrass7443 just kind of busting your balls actually LOL. To each his own in music. Though the Beastie Boys are far more than tolerable. Also I use no exclamation points and or caps where they did not belong. I don't see where you got aggressive? flabbergasted Maybe
These times and even those prior, like UTFO and Roxanne, were awesome. A little advice...don't get so damn high before making a video. Your span on YT will be short.

It’s T LA Rocks song, It’s Yours played backwards.
Finally somebody who knows
This has always hit so hard in your car with a system ❤❤

Em influenced them to do this when he was 11 years old and didn't know what rap was.
I have the absolute pleasure of growing up during this time. I always have been and continue to be a Beastie Boys fan and I’m 53 years old! They are so bad ass
A house party is not complete without some Beastie Boys!!
Bro this is my kind of rap! Paul Revere was the first ACTUAL rap I knew all the words of. Legends! RIP MCA my favorite Beastie!
I love your stoke level on this bro!
The Beasties are legend!!! I remember back in high school when I got to borrow my parent’s Ford Aerostar van and driving with my friends blasting my new Licensed To Ill tape on repeat. Still remember every word to every song, in order, to this day. 😂

I bought this cassette on first day came out 8$. Grade 8. Was epic
I love the Beasties!!! ❤️🔥 I've still got their "License to Ill" album on vinyl from when it came out. A friend of mine, Michelle, gave it to me in Nov '86, as a 10th birthday present. Thanks, Michelle ;-) ❤
Michelle is freakin cool! Hell Yeah

MCA reversed the beat to get that scratch thump sound. I always loved it.
I love how much you love this! Beastie Boys are awesome!
Again..80's...Em shouts them out alot a major influence 4 him he mentioned them in his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame speech💙
Thanks for acknowledging their talent and what they brought to Hip Hop.
Greatest hip hop group ever!!!
Their album was called licensed to ill

Can’t forget DJ Hurricane who was with them for like 13 years!

License to Ill (1986 Album) Number 1 for 10+ weeks. First Hip Hop group to have a whole album to do #1. Even beat out Run D.M.C
my favorite Beastie song, the beat was so dumb, i love it.
It’s crazy that Mike D is Screech from Saved By the Bell’s brother
This comment is great.😂

I'm 63 and loved the boys

It’s natural! There was zero technology yet at that time for these sounds. Mixmaster Mike did it all. ❤
MMM wasn’t the DJ on this 💯

Skated to this jam....
Skated this in the late 80’s and Check your head in the early 90’s.
Seventh grade 1987 for me. Beastie for life
Enjoyed the energy, and the appreciation of a classic great band. You should dig into arrested development
The beat is in reverse...posse in effect is my favorite
WAHHHHHH...love it
Drop it like it’s hot beat always reminds me of this one.
Slander and the beastie boys are never in the same sentence
Who remembers the Fat Boys!?! Dude could beat box like no other!
RIP😢
🔥Check out "Brass Monkey"
Those happy noises you make at 6:06 remind me of "Beavis & Butthead", when Beavis would get all hyped and sugared up and turn into Cornholio
Legends, pioneers....
This beat is from T-La Rock it's yours in reverse. T-La Rock is one of the Ole School like Busy B that put Hip Hop on the map
No it ain't from T la rock. Ad Rock explains it on his interview with Sway in the morning.
I'm 50. I was 12 when I was listening to this.
When we was growing up ⬆️ in the 80s if you had a car 🚘 with some beat in it every hood was bumping this it makes yo speakers 🔊 vibrate everything around factuality
rick rubin all the beats absolute genius
Dat shit hits home
3 mcs and 1dj great beastie boys
the beats are 808s in reverse. That's how. :)
Kendrick used this beat on LUST.
they just all fun.
Brought me back on this on!
I’m sad to say that I was a heavy metal fan and dismissed these guys until a few years later when Paul’s Boutique hit. Of course I soon realized what a mistake it was. But hey I was 16..
Better late than never!!
Had to be there 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Brass Monkey hits too!!
I'll let someone else explain more fully, but about how they got that beat sound, I got one word for you to contemplate: backwards.
They reversed the 808 drum bass..
It's T La Rock and Jazzy Jays "it's yours" backwards
I thought of a good one for you. Evanescence - "Bring Me To Life" or Living Color "Cult of Personality"
3rd time🔥🌋whAaa
Its all that
Everybody knows the snare trap is all in reverse record
T la rock’s it’s yours played backwards .
Best beat ever
🤘🏻🤙🏼🤘🏻
Before Eminem..... The Beastie Boys!
Missy Elliott said it best. Let me work it put the best down and then reverse it!
Are you like this all the time. God did good with you. 😊
I did it like this
I did it like that
I did it with a wiffel ball bat
and artist FALCO…. song AMADEUS
Beastie Boys.......Goats. nothing more to say
SouthSide! Nice lid.
3:25 close. License to Ill
🔥🔥🔥🚒🚒🔥🔥🧯🧯
Boilubas is the 🔥 📛 👩🚒
Without the Beasties... Rap would have been a different gig ..
dood!!!!! 1st comment!!! ya gotta do Groove Holmes....
I just watched about 10 reaction videos in a row..every single one of them had 766 likes... assuming its a weird glitch
Rick Ross had a hit on this beat.
Pls review KRAFTWERK…. song is TRANS EUROPE EXPRESS
Play it backwards
License to ill
Reverse 808
Sceez, you make the Beasties so much more tolerable and fun. 😁 Peace brother.
How in the hell you say Beastie Boys tolerable ? What kind of crap you listening to if the Beastie Boys are tolerable ?
@@chrismidyette1098 I can't tell if you're a fan or you hate them. You comin on kinda aggressive, my man.

I prefer hip hop with lyrical content too. That tough guy stuff is meh.
Beasties don't play
