RIP MCA - I'd also highly suggest you watch the 1999 MTV concert they did live from Glasgow = it shows how truly talented they were, from playing their own instruments, punk, funk, sample masters and they rap just like the 3 MC's video in every song without missing a thing. It's a great example of how vast a musical space they actually covered. LEGENDS - oh and they sampled more Led Zeppelin (especially the drums of John Bonham RIP) than anyone.

I think you'll find the beat is also coming from the the record the DJ is scratching. I might be wrong but if I remember rightly it was all about the records, mixers and scratch techniques. Real back to basics, hands on stuff. Sometimes involving more than one record. It's what really made it impressive as a performance with or without rappers. Not something you'll see much in the club's these days unless you can find somewhere where people are specifically doing it old school. Takes a lot of skill. ❤

Early on, Beastie boys weren’t exactly a feminists best friend with songs like girls. BUT, we also thought it was hilarious and knew it was meant in good fun. Feminist from back then had a sense of humor and could tell the difference between an off color comment to be funny and outright misogyny. Women were no better with songs like Small ….. ‘Richard’ Men. But use the short form of Richard that rhymes with Rick. It’s a pretty funny song. Another fun song, while we’re on the subject is by King Missile called Detachable Penis. Yes, the song is as insane as the title suggests. But totally worth it for the laugh.
