Mix Master Mike is literally the greatest, he was winning every competition to the point that they stopped letting him compete so other people would have a chance.
@@oksceez yeah, they were basically like, we acknowledge you as the greatest so you can be a judge. I didn't realize it until somebody pointed it out, Mix Master is doing everything with one turntable. He doesn't have a second one playing a snare loop, or an 808 loop, or anything else. He's mixing everything, from one record remembering where all the sounds are on the disc, and doing it live. So much respect.
Young man I am 52 years old and this reaction was a birthday present. I can't even explain how happy I am that you hear the difference. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Real talk
The Beastie Boys released 8 albums starting in 1986 and their final album in 2011. The albums went platinum, double platinum, triple platinum, and even diamond. They are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They had the first #1 rap album. They opened for Run DMC. They also opened on tour for Madonna. They got LL cool J signed to Def Jam, and Public Enemy opened for them on their first tour. This song you just reacted to came out in 1998 (from their 5th album). They have a ton of legendary songs, and the Paul's Boutique album is widely considered one of the best rap albums ever made.
@@oksceez That quiet room in the basement of that building was the bands personal rehearsal and recording spot for hella years. Back when MTV played music videos 24/7
The Beastie Boys were a punk band first, when they made a song called the 'Cooky Puss' based on a prank phone call they made. It was their first use of the rap and sample and became an underground hit. They dropped the instruments and became who they are here.
They were already legends here .love your understanding of the greatness happening here . I saw them 3 times live in the 80’s and early 90’s . This is where it all began . Check it🔥🔥🔥
The Beasties were Originators...they blazed many of the trails rappers today stride upon...they brought rap to the suburbs...the were an ever evolving yet recognizable force in hip-hop endlessly inventive, unexpected, and uplifting without being saccharine... they are just so much fun. And pauls boutique....is in a word, a "Masterpiece". It is utterly unique. nothing else sounds like it or ever will again. It is a literal painting with sound...every single thing that is not the Boys themselve or the DJ, is a sample...over 150-350+ depending on how the usages are counted. The Legendary Dust Brothers Produced it for them and sampling was brand new art...the tech had just been invented...no one had any clue what they were making until it was too late. Paul's Boutique's industry impact almost single-handedly strangled sampling to death as an art-form,because it was itself showing it in all of its potential...they had legally cleared all of the samples for less than half million...think about that, and look up what samples cost now.
They started as a punk band. Inducted into rock and roll hall of fame. Listen to Paul revere..they actually were making music like this in the 80's..early hip hop/rap influencers
Beastie Boys are Legends..... No Sleep til Brooklyn, You Fight For Your Right, Paul Revere and Brass Monkey are fire 🔥. This was back in the day when music was actually real and good. They have been around since the 80's. This particular one I think was late 90's. RIP Adam Yauch and John Berry...😢😢😢 #SceezSquad
They were the dopest white boys to ever play the game bruh.they had their own sound and dynamics.they helped countless rap artists throught the history of hip hop and rap.they didn't have to rap about flashy cars and jewlery and b1tches.they always put out positive vibes.the concerts were so amazing!everyone wanted to collaborate and make new sounds and tracks with them.they were truly inspirational to so many.mix master mike was the best dj in history.he was so good that at the dj championships he won every time.so much that they asked him not to come back because he always won.

Loved your excitement here , I watched it five times . Love seeing u get it . This band get no respect from anyone under 30 .except you .
I love how you mentioned they’re clothes because they look like they’re going to the library to study for the fucking science test!! I love the beastie boys. I grew up listening to them listen I’m 53 years old so I grew up listening to the beastie boys and they are the shit. Period!
Check out Paul's Boutique and The In Sounds from Way Out. You made a point that they had those raw beats. They had those vibes! That reverse bass drop changed the game...you know which one I'm talking about. :)
I like to imagine Mike wordlessly traveling from studio to studio throughout the 5 boroughs activating MCs for a track and then moving on to the next batch, like some sort of hip-hop mail carrier...

Reason is u fuckin get it, but not only that it’s hittin u like it hits me, and u got no scruples about expressin urself and vibin, but u ain’t hoppin in too hard to control the music, unlike a lot of reactors. People watch these videos to make up for the fact that they don’t have jiggy friends to show this to, and you fill that! Big ups, and keep doin Beasties for ya boy. Also, House of Pain’s “Top O the Morning To Ya” is a fun as fuck Irish/Celtic bitty that would be fun. Keep the same energy my g!
So blessed to have seen them live once. You should watch the breakdown HipHopDX does on them being the "Greatest group of all-time" to really get a great history on them and why they are 3 bad dudes! RIP MCA - I'd also highly suggest you watch the 1999 MTV concert they did live from Glasgow = it shows how truly talented they were, from playing their own instruments, punk, funk, sample masters and they rap just like the 3 MC's video in every song without missing a thing. It's a great example of how vast a musical space they actually covered. LEGENDS - oh and they sampled more Led Zeppelin (especially the drums of John Bonham RIP) than anyone.
great take. you are one of the few "reactors" who really gets them. they're the next level. i think only public enemy with their bomb squad production crew (shocklee bros=genius) can even remotely compete with the beasties.
First time I’ve seen your channel. Man you can’t go wrong with the Beastie Boys. They got a big catalog and they’re loved by a lot of people out here. I like your enthusiasm for the old school Hip hop. In a lot of ways it’s better than what’s going on in rap today. I’ll throw out some song titles but they’re probably already in your comments. ‘Paul Revere’, ‘Che-Check it out!’, Intergalactic’ ‘ High Plains Drifter’.
This was a bad@$$ reaction to a bad@$$ song....loved it man... run the jewels and more beastie boys...oh and rage against the machine...any of it thanks
I think you'll find the beat is also coming from the the record the DJ is scratching. I might be wrong but if I remember rightly it was all about the records, mixers and scratch techniques. Real back to basics, hands on stuff. Sometimes involving more than one record. It's what really made it impressive as a performance with or without rappers. Not something you'll see much in the club's these days unless you can find somewhere where people are specifically doing it old school. Takes a lot of skill. ❤
This is when rap was fun. Everything changed with gangster rap, I lost interest once it was almost all about ‘witches’ and ‘hoes’. Early on, Beastie boys weren’t exactly a feminists best friend with songs like girls. BUT, we also thought it was hilarious and knew it was meant in good fun. Feminist from back then had a sense of humor and could tell the difference between an off color comment to be funny and outright misogyny. Women were no better with songs like Small ….. ‘Richard’ Men. But use the short form of Richard that rhymes with Rick. It’s a pretty funny song. Another fun song, while we’re on the subject is by King Missile called Detachable Penis. Yes, the song is as insane as the title suggests. But totally worth it for the laugh.
