These guys were like 18-19 years old when they recorded this stuff. Underage girls was a reference to Led Zeppelin and they didn't go around shooting people.
Man when we were freshmen in high school this came out. It didn't matter which friends car you got in they had this tape on it was just a different spot on the tape. This whole album is awesome, listen to every song with an open mind
Heh heh…. You said “they had it on tape” LOL!!! Don’t worry, I also owned a cassette tape of this album. So funny though! 😂 The use of the words “cassette” or “tape” automatically means we’re ‘old’ right. Hell, young people now wouldn’t even be able to figure out how to dial 911 on a rotary telephone. They would do the circle thing than disconnect the call thinking it meant ‘send’.
Y'all are crushing it. Enjoy the Beastie Boys ride. Side note: the girls being underage is a diss to Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. Next song request-3MCs and 1 DJ. Keep it coming!
When that bass dropped it killed em in the hood and rattled some speakers...........By the way they played their own instruments......You gotta listen to their whole catalog to see how FIRE they are young brothers.
Old school hip hop was more about creative story-telling and word play. And it was about making people laugh and just turning the party out. These dudes put their tracks together with so many dope samples, beat switches, flow styles, and they were one of the best at that tag team rapping style. The Beastie Boys were always entertaining and they created their own lane in hip hop history.
Beastie Boys wayyyy ahead of the game…brilliant lyricists musicians artists & Hip-Hop innovators. I regard them up there with The Beatles….yes that’s correct…The Beatles. ✌🏻❤️
Yeah, The Beastie Boys have a huge variety of sounds, with the best beats, and really creative videos. Seriously, it’s gonna be a while. Score you hear a song you don’t really like from them. I recommend official videos for “Intergalactic”, “Sure Shot”, “3 MCs and 1 DJ”, “Pass the Mic”, “Root Down” and so many more. Also they made an appearance on The Chappelle Show doin this song live (The New Style) and it’s awesome!
I was in grade school when this jawn came out :) I still remember dancing the “Smurf” to this LOL 🔥🔥🔥🔥 This song, Paul revere, Hold it now hit it, were my favorite from this album.
This whole album is gold! License to ill is the soundtrack of my heyday! I owned it in vinyl, cassette & eventually CD. Listen to all of license to ill
Guys I was in high school back then and to see you young guys appreciate our old music is priceless. The Beasties are one of those rare groups is timeless, raceless and have a huge catalogue for us all to appreciate...even your kids and grandkids. Peace
This album was back in '86. Before you guys were born. Crazy stuff. I remember memorizing this whole album when I was in 6th grade. Brings back memories.
What's up RaymondKeylow!!! You guys probably didn't know that Rick Rubin produced the Beastie Boys album License to Ill!!! and The Pharcyde also sampled this song for their cut Drop!!! I love the adlibs in this song and the beat is fire!!! Great production and Great reaction guys!!! Luv ya!!!
The “underage” comment was in reference to Jimmy Page from their previous lyrical line. It was rumored that he liked them young. The Beastie Boys were poking at that rumor.
Yeah, people don't always know that Licensed to Ill is satirical in a lot of ways. A lot of these kinds of references to the 'rock star lifestyle' were meant ironically, and this is indeed calling out Page. Because all that stuff about him and young girls is not just rumors.
Beastie Boys on my 🔥list since 80’s . They are LEGENDS!! Original HIP HOP. The real deal .. You gotta dive into the catalog . They are in the Hall of Fame! Hip hop Royalty
My recommendation is Shadrach, the official video. It's a live set and MCA (RIP) directed and animated it. The lyrics are fire and to me it's a song the absolutely captured who they were at the time. It's my favorite off Paul's Boutique. Which, if you are a hip-hop fan and you do not own a copy of it, you need to do your homework.
I was in the 6th grade when License To ill came out. I wore that tape out. You can look at their lyrics like a comedian telling jokes. No matter how wild or crazy it is it's just a joke and with the Beasties it's just a rhyme.
Go GUYSSS!!! So glad you're doing the Beasties....Sure Shot, Car Thief, 3 MCs & 1 DJ, Sabotage, High Plains Drifter...it goes on and on! They were some innovators...
Just so you know, the Beasties were one of 5 ORIGINAL Groups on Def Jam Records, which included: Run DMC LL Cool J. Public Enemy Kurtis Blow Beasties Boys Please read & learn about Def Jam Records & those groups. They were one of the Cornerstones of Hip Hop. Russell Simmons & Rick Rubins Founded Def Jam Records And PLEASE Find & watch the movie: "Krush Groove". It will help u out a Lot on ur Hip Hop History. And it's a Dope Ass Movie.
It’s with a turntable and a TR 808. That’s why it’s simple. Conceptually it’s brilliant. In fact I’m shocked that no one has jacked and looped the beat at the end. Also rest easy, they were in HS when they wrote this. They’re weren’t Bambatta-ing people.
You guys are heading down the Beastie rabbit hole...enjoy the ride. SO many great jams you need to check out and react to. Paul Revere, Intergalactic, 3 MCs and 1 DJ, Root Down, Hold it Now, Shake Your Rump, The New Style....and so many more. And do yourselves a favor and watch the full concert they did in Scotland (Glasgow) in 1999 - INSANE energy for the whole show. "ShakaShine Reacts" did a cool reaction video and breakdown of that concert - worth a watch. More Beastie Reactions plz!!!
Alot of the slang was NYC mid 80's Hip Hop slang--so it's very era specfic like "rolled up a Woolie & watched Columbo" A Woolie is weed mixed with coke in either rolling paper or a cigar & Columbo was a tv show
Actually, nobody cared about "underage" in 1986... they just didn't. So long as you meant high school age and not kindergarten. I had teachers in high school back then who were openly dating my classmates. It was just a different world.
Supposedly? Like all the memoirs and documentation? That’s between you and yourself. Yes many of us definitely knew it was wrong. If not we should ask ourself some real hard questions about our childhood.
I was in high school when this came out. I was totally into heavy metal at the time, but this kicked my ass. They were kinda seen as a novelty, three silly early 20-something white boys from New York rapping, but they were more than just a fluke and had musical talent. Obnoxious and over the top...it was great. I still crank "Licensed to Ill" to this day.
Just this one song ……………………. Legendary so much has been inspired from this one song. I don’t think you young guys understand but glad you opened your minds to hearing it
One of their best early hits!! Love them‼️🎶🎵🔥🔥🤘🤘 Keep in mind when listening to their lyrics, they were being pretty goofy & silly most of the time. Many of their lyrics are NOT at all meant to be taken seriously.
Welcome to the World of the Beastie Boys.... incredible production and rhymes and countless unforgettable tracks and incredible albums, worth diving into. Some other songs worth reacting to: "She's Crafty", "Rhymin and Stealin", "Paul Revere" "Hold It Now, Hit It", "Shake Your Rump" "Egg Man" "High Plains Drifter" "Shadrach" "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun", "Car Thief" "B-boy Bouillabaise" "Jimmy James" "Pass the Mic" "Professor Booty" "Sure Shot" "Root Down" "Get It Together ft. You guys should check out the last track on Paul's Boutique, "Bboy Bouillabaise" is basically a 13 minute mini-album with some of the same flavour as The New Style. You will LOVE the beats.
The Beasties back and forth flow is legendary, but can be a bit dense especially if you don't know the pop culture they are referring to since it's from the 70's-80's. Never get too comfortable w a head bobbing rhythm w the Beastie Boys Raymond, they will always switch it up on ya! @ "feel the beat ... mmmdrop!" is when the whole car starts rattling & you can't see out of the rear view mirrors anymore cuz they're vibrating so hard lol. From this same album you should check out "Hold it Now, Hit it" and "Paul Revere". Don't be afraid to go back a few seconds because some songs are a lot to take in & you can miss a lot on your first listen. You should also go back 10 seconds or so when you pause to comment because it breaks the rhythm & lyrics/mssgs get lost like that too.
Everyone who reacts to this song they hear the part "the girlies I like are underage" but completely miss the part about Jimmy Page. But I love watching these react videos. Seeing the joy they get from listening to what we grew up with.
Take into consideration that this was what 1985-86? There wasn’t no go back and forth to compare it to. They we’re pioneers no doubt. From that point of view this music was from another universe so to speak.

I love watching people's faces the first time they hear the greatest beat drop of all time!

Ahh, tapes. 😁
My new 808 old school album is coming out soon! All Beastie Boys fan clubs members be there!
I had this tape too! 😜
The tape (& cd) is long gone, but most of this album is still on my playlist today! Still love it
I still have this cassette tape 😊
Heh heh…. You said “they had it on tape” LOL!!!

Hell, young people now wouldn’t even be able to figure out how to dial 911 on a rotary telephone. They would do the circle thing than disconnect the call thinking it meant ‘send’.
I've been watching a lot of videos of folks listening to Beastie Boys for the first time, I love it.
on a binge right now
“Car Thief” on Paul’s Boutique is fire 🔥
Y'all are crushing it. Enjoy the Beastie Boys ride. Side note: the girls being underage is a diss to Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. Next song request-3MCs and 1 DJ. Keep it coming!
Dissing Jimmy Page while stealing his music.... Shush
@@TommyPage-cv5ky He slept with 14 year old girls. Fact.
"High Plains Drifter" is a must, the combo of tumping beat and over laping back ground vocals is euphoric...
Probably the best song along with Root Down

Beasties have cemented themselves as the baddest multi genre rap icons of the history of the creation of home sapien.......
The thumping beat, the drums,
are a sample from
The Eagles song “Them Shoes”
The sound of science (Paul's Boutique)
This my favourite song on their first album. The beat in the 2nd part hard as fuck.
“ Get It Together” beasties and Q-Tip
