So Grant, to answer your question about how Maiev knew the orcish language and script: the Watchers' responsibilities included not only guarding prisoners like Illidan, but tracking down and bringing to justice other criminals and fugitives. Shortly before the events of Reign of Chaos, Maiev had departed on a mission away from the Barrow Deeps, which is why Tyrande didn't encounter Maiev herself when breaking Illidan free. There were numerous opportunities for Maiev to learn about the orcs, since she and the other Watchers were not just sitting around underground for 10,000 years. If there are no Maiev defenders, just assume I'm dead.
Ive never particularly liked Illidan but youve just got to respect that hia response to being called insane was basically "of course i am you kept me locked in a pit for millennia:
Yeah the 2003 cutscene still holds up nicely 21 years later. Blizzard's cutscene team is pretty damn solid even when the writers falter. EDIT: 1:19:40 20 years later and it's still funny to me that the Naga went at such a leisurely pace through the tomb that they even made sure to replace the statues of Azshara with a more up-to-date- depiction.

Nice, I've seen Sentinel campaign on SC2 Azeroth Reborn but I didn't seen it on Grant's yt channel. Now there is, first I must see GGG doing it and then I will try it!
Just hearing Maiev's line include "Of that there is no doubt" reminds me of the LotV-campaign where the Purifiers and Tal'Darim betray you. Now I'm imagining the last mission of the regular Warcraft 3 campaign, except all your allies are your enemies (including a traitorous Illidan for the Night Elves, so you have all factions against you). "Illidan has grown powerful; Of that there is no doubt. The Horde has grown powerful; Of that there is no doubt. The Alliance has grown powerful.; Of that there is no doubt. The Burning Legion has grown powerful; Of that there is no doubt. But we must defend the World Tree until Malfurion has completed his work."
Grant, I have a challenge idea for you. Beat a campaign without building the same unit two missions in a row. Workers don't count unless you attack with them. Starting units can only defend your base without counting. No build missions don't count. Mercenaries count as the base unit. Missile turret counts. Bunker only counts if it gets the shrike turret.
52:40: I can confirm that it was supposed to be a robe of intelligence + 6, and at 1:10:40 there is supposed to be a level 6 pit lord that doesn't (iirc) use spells. You are not crazy. Edit: pit lord is a bit wrong, see comments
@@danielspivak3926 there's actually 2 type of pit lord in WC3, those you list are for the TFT playable version pitlord, ROC pitlord had Shockwave/thunderclap/Reincarnate/earthquake for skill and much better stats. But this specific creep pitlord have warstomp and raise dead instead.
The attack speed being told only in descriptive terms reminds me of diablo games. In particular, in diablo 2, there are only discrete steps on how many animation frames a particular attack can have. With many attacks already having in the ballpark of 5 frames per attack, it takes a lot of modifier stacking to make "+x% faster attack speed" to have any effect. Yet this modifier is awesome and feels awesome to use, so it makes sense to somewhat hide the exact mechanics on how it works precisely. As attack speeds are already discrete, it makes sense to give names to numbers and not say that this is a 5-attack weapon. Yet what works in a hack-n-slash RPG where you mow millions of creeps with a single character does not necessarily work in an RTS where you build said millions of creeps
I cross-referenced those Couatl stats with the ones for normal WC3. They seem to have the same damage output (3 less damage at max upgrade, but 0.05 less cooldown) and 25 less health. Statistically they're basically the same. Pathing is absolutely the reason they're non-threats here.
1:28:10 I always found the vastly different effects funny (outside of them becoming tall humanoid serpents). Archers getting two hands, Druids of the Talon getting really buff... and the Druid of the Claw not really changing that much.
the autosave ability in arcade was discovered by the ui layout wizard 321. i dont entirely know how it works myself, but i think it does require patching into existing Blizzard layouts (which is one of those things that Blizzard doesnt explicitly say is disallowed and generally the modding community thinks is okay to do, but technically is not officially supported and Blizz could patch it out).
You know, I had forgotten just how much they throw the name Sargeras around this early in the franchise. The lore is there, the backstory has obviously happened, but it being a game from the early 2000s is kind of impressive. Let's not make a Warcraft 4.
1:08:00 Maybe she know orcish because of the time travel shenanigans? Did Maeiv ever interact with Broxigar when he time travelled? I don't remember tbh.
Wasn't canonicly there was an Orcish Warrior (edit: Broxigor) got sent to Azeroth during Legion's first invasion (Edit: War of Anchients) defended Azeroth against Legion got gifted Cenerius's Axe as a gift crafted by Malfurion. That Orc was a chad that actually injured (a little) Sargeras. Perhaps he tought them?
I think the reason the goblin dialogue might've been cut, was that they maybe thought it looked stupid to highlight how non-sensical it is for goblin shipyards to be on the broken isles. Especially considering they sell night elf ships, which implies it's the night elves building their own ships from the goblin docks, instead of the goblins themselves right?
1:03:11 is there a reason to ignore the orange island near the center of the map? There looked like there was some sort of camp. 1:20:46 reload to see if Naisha can be saved from being frozen? - 3 minutes later or you can just make her, that's good that there is some debugging code. Also i rewound, the bear just is deleted after he joins that fight, just snapped out of existence. Those hydra that's a strong ability. 1:27:34 so earlier on when you were running with just her, up through some skeleton grunts I think, There was a section with a demon overlord to your left, as if from a section you had already been to, don't know if anything was hidden there. 1:35:59 So i've been thinking about that moment when you ran past them for a while, I wonder if it's there, I mean with all this box nonsense it could be anywhere. - Nice it was just right ahead of you. 1:32:12 I know earlier we saw a Naga base, I feel like you get to play them at some point, not as a full campaign, but as part of one, maybe this one? Fun little side-faction. 1:42:19 it seems like you aren't meant to fight anything, and with blinking you can maybe escape with a minute left on the clock. 1:48:49 I don't remember an ancient of wonders, a shop that's you-controlled, huh, I believe it I just don't remember it. 2:04:18 was warcraft 3 always so no-buildy?
Each faction got a unique shop in TFT expansion. Humans are rhe out infamous for theirs, because that's where you can buy the pop-up towers that build in seconds.
This is kinda funny cause I never watched the other campaigns until like a week ago so I’m almost to the orc campaign, if you don’t mind I’m gonna finish the campaigns in order then watch this later, good luck hope you have fun with it
Maiev is an interesting character, on some levels. She is a righteous person. A just person. She is someone pursuing a goal that is lawful, legitimate, and valid. She is also cruel, cold, heartless. She is perhaps by many definitions, unpleasant. But does that make her morally in the wrong to be angry at Tyrande for freeing a lawfully imprisoned criminal, and murdering many of her comrades and kin to do it? Does that make her wrong to pursue Illidan? Arguably, had she succeeded, many tragedies great and small would have been averted... But was she remotely in the right about HOW She went about pursuing those goals? She's definitely mean, but does that actually make her evil, when she's pursuing just punishment of a man who, well, has killed a lot of Elves? I know we're supposed to, at this stage, sympathize with Illidan- and I do! From his perspective it being unjust is understandable. He doesn't think he did anything wrong. But he did. Novel lore recontextualizes a lot of this with the reason for his imprisonment being continuing to use demonic magic after the legion's been banished, and murdering several fellow survivors in an emotional fit.
So its kinda funny. I got into DOTA 2 before I got into warcraft at all and I see the characters and units in this and im like yup thats nightstalker, there is slardar and PA. Its cool to see where they all came from. Blizard were fools not to take ice frog up on his offer.
I am still convinced that Reforged should have been an DLC in the StarCraft 2 engine with a more expensive version that includes modifications for the StarCraft 2 editor like adjusted map sizes, Warcraft 3 scripting and access to Reforged graphics and textures. This would have been a fantastic DLC.
Always liked Maiev a lot as a Kid. But honestly ? she's some of the greatest hyprochrite out there. Play her campaign with this in mind and it's just clear. Now you'll excuse me, I'll gather the 10 fragment of a warlock's cursed relics to hunt my evil nemesis.
I was really into WC3 back in the day. I was a SC kid. I really enjoyed what little I played. I was super looking forward to WC3R but hearing how bad it was, I never even tried it. To this day, I havent played WC3 since I was a kid. Might give this a try.
Maievs is the best, she was right all along and not just simping like Malfurion ... I like that little staticy effect and holographic grid behind portraits in cutscenes xD they must be getting weak connection from Hyperion :D About ghosts, I always wondered what race swap between the games would be like, Undead in lotv or playing terrans invading eastern kingdom
It shouldn't be that surprising that sea water elementals are stronger than regular water elementals: It was clearly enstablished in Sailor Moon, where Neptune Is stronger than Mercury.
Guarding Illidan for 10,000 years can get pretty boring, they probably bring in reading material regularly. In fact the reason maiev wasn’t there to stop Tyrande is probably because she was out buying new books.
am i the only one seeing a double chin on the Dryads' face? Also Maiev being a bad person receiving Slippers from an old man is hilarious... i don't know if it is random, changed, or as it was, but that is absolutely fitting considering Maievs' attitude
1:07:50 Probably prisoners. Maiev is PoS for sure, but she's a top jailer, so I assume an ork here or there got into some CIA style questioning. If I were a covert operative, I'd do my best to learn scripture of potential enemies too. Or I'm pulling this out of my A and there was a scene before in campaign where Maiev shows she sees orks for the first time, and I'm just justifying Skyrim level design dungeon xD Too lazy to actually lore check my statement.
IN chapter 4 I am a little confused. why send the runner instead of taking her force and leaving with plans to return? feels like less people would have died that way.
Made it till 37 minute mark. Cannot watch longer for now because of the nostalgia I feel with all these sounds, visuals etc. - writing this as a former WoW player who doesn't want to return to the completely different now game. Classic servers though...

Workers don't count unless you attack with them. Starting units can only defend your base without counting. No build missions don't count. Mercenaries count as the base unit. Missile turret counts. Bunker only counts if it gets the shrike turret.
That sounds like it could be interesting if not for the fact that many units are the answer to the mission they are introduced in.
@drizzmatec Sure, but not usually on their own. There's generally also a need for anti air.
29:00 Oh yes, Maiev is back to her hometown!
52:40: I can confirm that it was supposed to be a robe of intelligence + 6, and at 1:10:40 there is supposed to be a level 6 pit lord that doesn't (iirc) use spells. You are not crazy.
Edit: pit lord is a bit wrong, see comments
Addendum: that pitlord is not a hero and Grant missed the Brewmaster Drinking Spot which usually grants you Spiderman socks
a lv7 creep pit lord actually, and he does use spell, I just got my ass warstomped by him.
@@hinugundamB Ah that's right, I just remember wondering where the howl and rain of fire and doom are.
Wow i never knew about this mod. Its crazy, it looks better then reforged..
Warcraft 3 is one of the very few games I've played where I liked playing as all of the 'evil' characters.
The night elves auto-shadowmelding feels so right
I don't think Maiev is either good or bad. I think she's complex and probably one of the most complex characters in the campaign.
She's kind of in the right, in regards to pursuing Illidan and feeling he needs to be stopped-
But what she's willing to do for that...
1:28:10 I always found the vastly different effects funny (outside of them becoming tall humanoid serpents). Archers getting two hands, Druids of the Talon getting really buff... and the Druid of the Claw not really changing that much.
drak'thul: i was once a POWERFUL warlock of the stormreaver clan, you know!...
Grant: ok grandpa, let's get you to bed
Goes from a "zero death" run to an "all must die"
Terror of the Tides is my favorite WC3 campaign. Lots of suspense and buildup.
57:30 just gained 5000 gold for no apparent reason
Evil Illidan be like: "You are prepared!"
Evil Maiev: the innocent must suffer!
Wait
2:04:56 Karax would like to know this location "to improve the SoA" xD
Stormgate really looked at Maiev when they did Amara, didn't they...
Finally, something that doesn't open with "hello my friends", my Christmas is complete.
This is a stream vod though, not a recorded playthrough
the autosave ability in arcade was discovered by the ui layout wizard 321. i dont entirely know how it works myself, but i think it does require patching into existing Blizzard layouts (which is one of those things that Blizzard doesnt explicitly say is disallowed and generally the modding community thinks is okay to do, but technically is not officially supported and Blizz could patch it out).
You know, I had forgotten just how much they throw the name Sargeras around this early in the franchise. The lore is there, the backstory has obviously happened, but it being a game from the early 2000s is kind of impressive.
Let's not make a Warcraft 4.
Phew, I was hoping he would upload this, love it!
The Frozen Throne campaign had a lot more non standard mission design, including several no builds.
Each faction got a unique shop in TFT expansion. Humans are rhe out infamous for theirs, because that's where you can buy the pop-up towers that build in seconds.
Naisha looked at the head of medusa and became petrified.
Christmas came early this year!
(I am from Orthodox Christian background, our Christmas is on 7th January)
Gregorian, not Julian. But the point stands nonetheless. Merry Christmas!
we need a Wings of Liberty but playing as the knife ears instead of as Rames Jaynor
1:00:00
That could actually be a good idea , use this tomb as a new prison for him
I can't imagine any items that hold a candle to the dark orb besides goblin land mines
2:01:06 This tip was brought to you by Papa Nurgle
This is kinda funny cause I never watched the other campaigns until like a week ago so I’m almost to the orc campaign, if you don’t mind I’m gonna finish the campaigns in order then watch this later, good luck hope you have fun with it
1:44:53 this is the content we watch you for. Screw your intelligent strategies, this is peak Grant.
Networking.
But he did.
Novel lore recontextualizes a lot of this with the reason for his imprisonment being continuing to use demonic magic after the legion's been banished, and murdering several fellow survivors in an emotional fit.
maybe they imprisoned some orcs in her barrow while she was underground
So its kinda funny. I got into DOTA 2 before I got into warcraft at all and I see the characters and units in this and im like yup thats nightstalker, there is slardar and PA. Its cool to see where they all came from. Blizard were fools not to take ice frog up on his offer.
Warcraft 3: Memes Reforged when?
I mean, Twitch Trolls Grant has finished all three (main) SC2 campaigns, so it could very well be next?
Grant, have you ever gotten splashed by seawater while out swimming? That sht can knock you out for a good 5 seconds if you're not ready for it.
I didn’t catch this when I played FT as a kid, but now I can’t unhear the tone of some pundit spewing conspiracy theories whenever Maiev talks
So, when do we get the Starcraft race mod for this campaign?
Always liked Maiev a lot as a Kid. But honestly ? she's some of the greatest hyprochrite out there. Play her campaign with this in mind and it's just clear. Now you'll excuse me, I'll gather the 10 fragment of a warlock's cursed relics to hunt my evil nemesis.
GG, GGG.
3:35 Gameplay begins
I was really into WC3 back in the day. I was a SC kid. I really enjoyed what little I played. I was super looking forward to WC3R but hearing how bad it was, I never even tried it. To this day, I havent played WC3 since I was a kid. Might give this a try.
Maievs is the best, she was right all along and not just simping like Malfurion ...
I like that little staticy effect and holographic grid behind portraits in cutscenes xD they must be getting weak connection from Hyperion :D
About ghosts, I always wondered what race swap between the games would be like, Undead in lotv or playing terrans invading eastern kingdom
It shouldn't be that surprising that sea water elementals are stronger than regular water elementals: It was clearly enstablished in Sailor Moon, where Neptune Is stronger than Mercury.
This just proves Warcraft 3 Reforged is a shameless cash grab
Ah Maiev, my favourite sociopath
I ship Maiev and Illidan because they’re the two sides of the same Faustian coin, they deserve each other
@@Edge_Boye Nah Tyrande deserved worse for freeing her boytoy
Woooo! We're so back bois! (Well not actually but I love this campaign so much)
I think Grant bonked his head to hard when he was gone, because he totally forgot that Real-Scale exists.
can i play this or only after grant finishes playing? and how can i play it, bit new to mods
There's already feedback In W3. As an attack modifier and as mana burn. There's also silence.
does naisha still have the power to use her owls over & over again?
Guarding Illidan for 10,000 years can get pretty boring, they probably bring in reading material regularly. In fact the reason maiev wasn’t there to stop Tyrande is probably because she was out buying new books.
I'm so glad we're getting the Frozen Throne campaign reforged. I definitely prefer the Frozen Throne's campaigns over RoC.
am i the only one seeing a double chin on the Dryads' face?
Ancient of Lore? You mean
SUBSOURIAN TREE?
IN chapter 4 I am a little confused. why send the runner instead of taking her force and leaving with plans to return? feels like less people would have died that way.
Would it be possible to make meme edition Warcraft 3 campaigns?
What about the community challenge?
Someone should do Warcraft 1-2 next.
Maiev is indeed pretty bad for most of Warcraft history. She only started changing between WoD and Legion if i remember correctly
how is Harder difficulty in SC2 feels so much easier than regular Hard in OG WC3?
Well because even on normal these missions were hard, Warden is a very level-depend hero so early Terror of Tide is really difficult.
Made it till 37 minute mark. Cannot watch longer for now because of the nostalgia I feel with all these sounds, visuals etc. - writing this as a former WoW player who doesn't want to return to the completely different now game. Classic servers though...
