One of the high-ranking units of either Antioch or the Pilgrims is the Witchburner General, the all-red guy whose art is shown near the end of the video. What he does, is he takes his walkin' stick, and goes for a little stroll. And that's all he can go out for - his station is far too high for any unprofessional jogging. Why? Well, simple. In an overtly religious setting inspired by 40K, holy smites evil, but by choice or necessity, everyone is kinda' evil. So, as one of the single most consecrated people on planet Earth, *every living thing around the Witchburner General combusts.* Friendly fire? Oh, well, what's a little flame between friends?
Well that's not really true, Witchburner can bring spontaneous combustion to any sinner in their voice range, by condemning them. But that does not mean everyone around them burst into flame instantly
What's particularly funny about the Artillery Witch is that they can logically be insanely dangerous summoners who can generate an infinite swarm with the portals they just open at will, but for some reason they just summon bombs and nothing else.
Perhaps it got something to do with transporting living matter vs. inert objects and possibly hell jealously keeping such teleport knowledge for those more deserving... like the Goetic Sorcerers and such.
Regarding the stigmatic nun. I am quoting Mike Franchina “It’s actually a pretty equal amount of penis to boob/ass ratio, you just haven’t seen all the art.” Because there are a couple images in the rule books with a titty out, like the campaign rules have some heretic demon lady completely bare chested. And a few of the demons have that hermaphroditic appearance portrayed in some old religious art.
By the way the reason why they don't wear armor is in the name, they want to bleed on the battlefield for their God and the rules reflect that (they turn blood markers into boons)
The thing about the stigmatic nuns that is really hilarious to me is the fact that the rules explicitly state that the nuns can use any Trench Pilgrim armor/equipment, so the naked nun is doing that for personal reasons, presumably.
The rules allow them to benefit from being injured. But there's a faction who are prudes and mandate their nuns wear armour which counts in the rules lol
Interesting to note the democratic Prussians allow women in combat with that officer with the anti tank sword being Frau Hauptmann Frederica von Goltz of the IV Gardekorps of Königsberg. As she is part of nobility she can get around normal social mores of women soldiery (trench pilgrims are not selective as they feel that anyone called by god can serve). I think it is important to keep in mind that tanks in this setting are more like the slow infantry tanks of WW1 or the interwar period so they are more susceptible to infantry attacks. Still mad and wonderfully apocalyptic.
There's actually a Yeoman that's a female sculpt so tbh I think just about everyone is fair game in this world, similar to 40k Imperial Guard. If you can hold a gun or lob a grenade, you're in

for some reason the craziness of trench crusades lore really does it for me even when I find a lot of the crazier aspects of 40k's lore a bit too silly to take seriously, an official church space program is both hilarious and something that totally makes sense in this alternate setting where the the church essentially is the state

The heretics don't, but they also betrayed all of humanity, so that's on them.

40:32 This is pretty much true but the Iron Sultanate definitely has an air of superiority over Christendom. There is a blurb (basically a sentence) in the Iron Sultanate section of the lore primer on how the citizens of the Iron Sultanate view Christendom. "Resentment against the infidels who unleashed Gog and Magog* runs deep in the Sultanate, and matters of honour are swiftly resolved with duels to the death. Woe to those who dare to hinder the mission of Those Who Believe." *Gog and Magog in Abrahamic religions refers to the forces of Satan/Hell that are said to appear at the coming of the apocalypse.
@andrewdiaz3529 Oh yeah for sure, I only wanted to point out there IS some disdain for the Christians coming from the Iron Sultanate. I think this attitude fits perfectly with their aesthetic of having gold adorned warriors, their armies are usually better equipped than either New Antioch or the Trench Pilgrims, and their use of alchemy, all of which help cement this feeling of superiority over Christendom.

35:20 that stigmatic nun looks like the Trench Crusade writers thought "what if Warhammer Fantasy Flagellant, but woman". Because Flagellants in WF are people in a loincloth whipping themselves as penitance for humanity's failures to the point where they form groups to whip themselves into a battlefrenzy and go pure mindless carnage against whatever enemy of Sigmar is in sight.
The fact that they asked for $66,666 (a blatantly demonic number) and received $3.3 million (three being a number associated with God) is absolutely hilarious. 🤣

@victorvondroom Exactly Honestly it makes me think of how around the 1800's theres that infamous painting by heinrich lossow called "the sin" where its a monk banging a nun through a fence Or like the greek statue of women draped in "see-through" fabric from the 1800's
Male nerd incels that think either think that if they pretend to adopt weird pseudo feminist ideals then a woman might actually talk to them (not realizing that it's their own insecurities preventing them from talking to women) or they actual resent females for the same reason and don't want any feminine characters, especially strong female characters anywhere near their precious hobby. I made a comment to one of these guys earlier in this comment section about how my artist wife often features female nudity in her works because she finds the female form beautiful, which it is. He was saying that the boobies are nothing but "goon baiting" (I assume I know what that means lol), but my only response is: obviously a considerable proportion of people enjoy nudity and sexuality in art, whether they want to admit it or not. Just seems more misogynistic to want any female characters to be meek, chaste characatures of what these sad individuals think that a woman should be. What's wrong with boobies for the sake of boobies after all? The female form is beautiful, as is the male form. Wish these guys would stop blaming women for the fact that they're incapable of thinking of women as humans and individuals and are therefore too afraid to actually engage with them in a meaningful way and so they blame women for their loneliness.
Flipped through the primer myself, very interesting, has a lot of potential. Plotting stuff out on google earth raises some questions (Damascus suspiciously close to Jerusalem to be their super-soldier plant, how does Heretic Gibraltar and Catholic Rome co-oexist in the same Mediterranian, where the fuck is that iron wall, there is no southern front mentioned??????) but I imagine that will be elaborated on. Edit: Occurs to me that this all kicked off well before the Americas were discovered by non-viking Europeans, which opens the door to some really, *really* funny alternative history (including but not limited to: indigenous empire gaming (aztec/inca/&c.), super wacky hypercatholic US, or just deleting all of it and putting Purgatorio there since we're running with Dante's hell)
i still think this isnt a very good explanation tho like why the other armour then? like the most important part of the body with NO armour is silly but oh we have to protect my arms and legs it's asking to be one shot cant be buffed if your dead
I don't think their problem was that they're naked, but that they're flawless. An order of nuns that revere wounds sustained in battle as signs of their faith should look pretty messed up, they should be covered in scars and old wounds, or cuts and gashes that never close and bleed perpetually but don't slow them down. However, their models don't have any visible wounds.

If you like Trench Crusade, I highly recommend the Second Apocalypse series by R. Scott Bakker. It doesn't have the World War I aspect mixed in, but it is a grimdark universe strongly based on the crusades of the middle ages against a horrifying enemy, though that enemy is initially only covertly present and believed to be a legend. However it is also rather similar to 40k since the story centers around a character that is at least in my opinion rather similar to the Emperor.

After messing around with the playtest rules with some improvised proxies... I can honestly say this game is actually a lot of fun, and even though the rules seem 'oversimplified'- if you read a bit further into it, it's really more complex than you'd think. In a nutshell- without bogging everything down with specific rolls and stats for everything... Imagine knowing you need to roll a 7+ on a D6 in order to succeed at pretty much anything, but the actual complexity comes in the many different ways to make that specific roll a lot more difficult to achieve.

The real new faction is the church of metamorphosis
As a Prussian history nerd, this hurts me deeply
Regarding the stigmatic nun.

And you didn’t mention the shrine anchorite, a mechsuit that has a guy WILLINGLY crucify himself onto the torture wheel to act as a shield. The nuns I'm pretty sure bathe in the blood of heretics, and there are sinners and heretics that are strapped with suicide bombs and charged into the enemy. The sinners VOLUNTEER FOR THIS. The heretics don't, but they also betrayed all of humanity, so that's on them.
I wonder what would be enough to be labeled a sinner in this lore/universe?
@The80sWolf_ pretty normal stuff to nowadays. Everyone is just far more strict about it. Murder. Theft. Taking the lords name in vain. Joining the legions of the damned. Breaking the Sabbath. You know, normal sins
Woe to those who dare to hinder the mission of Those Who Believe."
*Gog and Magog in Abrahamic religions refers to the forces of Satan/Hell that are said to appear at the coming of the apocalypse.
Considering the fact that this is all objectively the Crusaders' fault, kinda fair

I don't think their problem was that they're naked, but that they're flawless. They should invite scannerbarkly to talk more Trench Crusade. It was he that made me interested in its lore.
So... is it just me or... or is the Artillery Witch running on toon physics? Pulling infinite bombs out of a black hole.
Thank you thank you thank you guys
I started seeing Trench Crusade online here & there and decided not to dive in and waited for you all to cover it, I am so pumped to learn more
The ifunny logo on brickys face 4:58 😂😂😂
Finally someone else notices that shit, it's been popping up and their videos all the way back since the siege of Vraks videos
I've played 4 games so far and my favorite guys are the Iron Sultanate, specifically the House of Wisdom.
You wanna talk kitbashing, let's talk about the homunculus unit which starts as a blank slate and has to buy body parts and other features manually from the upgrade options.
I'm currently converting a snake elf lady from AOS for a homunculus with Startling Speed, Inhuman Strength and Additional Arm
1:21:57 this character is actually a women as stated on the trench crusade twitter account.
You know you failed as a character designer when you can't make it clear a character is a female or male.
@@JIMT412Bruh, the character is wearing armor
@@derstein3368 Dude, there's legit a previous work of female armor even if it was from a high ranking unit.
Frederica is a noble, I don't see why she wouldn't made a personalized set for her.
@@JIMT412 You know flat chested women exist right?
@@JIMT412what if she just wants to have that armor lol
Tuomas Pirinen himself liked my first comic/comic video of Trench Crusade over on Facebook. What a cool guy👍
Can you drop a link? I'd love to see it !
@samuraijimmi I actually have it on my channel. (A bit of a soft promo I know✌️😅)
OMG hell yea, I was waiting for you to mention this Bricky. I spent hours one night reading the lore and its legit.
