I hope this is good news for handheld owners and Sony fans. I think the Steamdeck and other machines like it are probably the future of handheld gaming. Sadly, while I will miss the portability that systems like the DS, PSP, Gameboy Advance, and the Vita provided. My hands won't miss the cramping, but I'll miss the easy portability. It's just the way it is
Must have been nice to be in the times where it was still a fan base and company support for these devices too.
To be honest, pixel art games these years are booming and more fun than high graphics focus on empty story based online games.
I mean especially for PS vitas because that's pretty much all the games they get now, but emulating and mods been good so cant complain.
Games like that is what made the PS1 and PS2 awsome. After what I call the PS2 era, my love for gaming started diminishing.
I actually don't really like pixel art game because most of it was indie game, but sometime when i just look at it i don't like it, but when i play it i got hook up and forgot that the games was pixel art 😂
I prefer 2d game side scroll action like muramasa

I haven't picked up my vita awhile. Good to hear there is positive support and news for the handheld.
I'm interested to see where this goes, but I'm not gonna be to quick to restore my faith in There's a few things I'd like to see first. I think they need to star making more diverse exclusives, like we got back in the PS3/Vita era, not everything needs to be "the last of us"
I'd also like to see a bigger preservation/backwards compatibility effort, for example if you have a PS2 game that's available on PS Premium u, you should be able to use that disc without subscribing, like how it works on Xbox
And I also hope that PC ports not only continue, but increase (especially the gravity rush games 🙏) I think that's the one aspect of modern Sony I'd say is a step in the right direction
But on the whole I'd say changing the head of PlayStation is at best a reason to watch Sony a little more closely, and at worst the same company with a different face at the top

This could be a hit or miss, the new CEO could actually care about their older consoles and new and provide as much love as possible for them or the sony would just stay the same. One another note why cant this happen to nintendo?
1.PS Vita company support is pretty much gone 2. The PS Portal (funny enough it has hate already) 3. Nintendo is Money > charm also Modding communities NEED less Corp' meddling for hacks to happen.
Regardless of what happens at SONY office they won't come back to the Vita because they already sent the development hardware they had for quality assurance for recycling through 2021/2022. Some of it appeared up on auction sites all over the world and have been sold to collectors and hackers. Prototypes of PSP GO refresh that never released officially (Strider2 a reference to LOTR character Aragorn) also have been sold on auctions.
PlayStation Fiscal year ends on March 31 and starts on April 1st, so Jim is finishing out the year. The thing with his tenure as CEO was Jim was more wired to the business side of things vs of the other guys like Jack Tretton, Shuhei Yoshida, Shawn Layden and even Andrew House who were more of those "face" guys, they knew how to speak to the players. Ryan was more equipped to speak to the shareholders, I'm not sure he loves games like Shuhei or Layden or even Phil Spencer, which is why he had no sentiment for legacy platforms. But he must have been good at his job for them to put him in the CEO spot. When It comes to the Vita by 2019 PlayStation was pretty much over it but there were some advocates within who wanted to continue to drag it out and a dedicated community they didn't want to just cut off. I don't think Jim Ryan really had any influence toward x-ing out the Vita outside of him just being indifferent towards it. Their biggest mistake under his tenure was the way they decided to handle sunsetting the ps3 and vita stores, and after a strong backlash he admitted they screwed that up.
I think him leaving is inconsequential to Vita and any ambitions Sony might have towards making a successor to it. We will see what kind of response the PS Portal gets, but either way I don't think it will help. If people buy it they are going to think Remote Play was the right play all along and they will double down on that. If nobody does then they will use it as a excuse not to make a dedicated device. They aren't competing against a gameboy/DS anymore. They can't go the hybrid route of Nintendo and get that far behind Xbox in hardware. And they wouldn't want to make something like the Steam Deck that modders will have a field day with. With Microsoft acquiring Activision/Blizzard they are going to be hyper focused on the core business. Microsoft has spent the last decade building stable of game studios and also an incredible eco system that gives people many pathways to experience Xbox, I think the last thing on Sony's mind is should we make another portable.
What will be bright about the future as it pertains to Vita is as the years come I think peoples appreciation for the device will continue to grow and it will be looked at fondly when it comes to those the list of the best gaming devices.

I am willing to do quite a bit for sony to release 256GB and 512GB vita memory cards, Some fresh and preferably beefier replacement batteries would be nice too.
The battery is easy to replace and there already is up to 2 TB of storage available for the Vita.
I think he might be talking legitimate storage and not having to mod it..

I think Jim Ryan is a controversial person in PlayStation history, just as Bernie Stolar was for Sega history. One thing I don't understand in recent PlayStation times is the censorship of some games, while Nintendo has chosen the opposite. Don't know if Ryan made some decisions about that but for sure it has been a dark point of his management.
😂And also to be able to see the PS3 and PS4 Vita games within the app as recently played and playing.

There are too many cogs in the machine that is Sony to say if him leaving or not will have an impact, and I know barely anything about his job role.
I've not enjoyed some of his comments, but I'm sure he's done an amazing job.

I still got my fingers crossed that one day in the not too distant future, we might get a PlayStation vita 2….
It would be designed in a way very similar to the Nintendo switch and yet it would surpass it in every single way!
It would play PS1 games, PS two games(Limited of course) all the PSP and PS Vita games that were on the digital store just like the first Vita!!
It would combine the features of the PlayStation TV and the PlayStation vita which pretty much would equal a switch like PlayStation handheld that could connect to your TV for when you wanted to play on the big screen and then just grab the handheld whenever you wanted some gaming on the go or kicked back on the couch in the living room?!??
Sometimes I feel like things for PlayStation could be so much greater if Sony would just take seriously the act of video game preservation, they never should’ve stopped adding PS1 games to the digital store!!! And there always should’ve been a continuing effort to port an upscale more PS two games!!
Aveda two at this point would have better graphics than the PS3 and maybe it would even be able to play some PS3 games?
All of this is under the assumption that they would design the thing very similarly to how the PlayStation vita was designed back in 2010 to 2011??

I don't know why you would even think that Sony would do anything new for PSV. JR retiring means nothing to Vita. It's a retired device and now it's owned by the mod community. The last thing I'd want anyway is Sony trying to lock down legacy devices.
I love the PSP and the Vita but I never liked Sony as a company, ever. Like every company has it's own image, their branding and it already started with that creepy baby doll commercial where the doll turns its head. It's just nightmare fuel and nothing where I'm like "oh that's nice. That is going to make me like Sony". The PSP would have been PERFECT with a second analog stick but Sony was too arrogant for that. Remember that quote "you don't ask an architect of an ancient bridge to change this" or something like that. Basically they were comparing the PSP to an old bridge (maybe the one in Venice) and said the PSP was build perfectly so how dare anyone question it. Sony is super arrogant and full of themselves. Their arrogance ruined the Vita. I mean you sell a handheld with a digital store where you make money selling games (like Steam, the money is in the games not the console sales) YET you had to buy super expensive overcharged Ps Vita only memory cards in order to download those games. Now some idiots will say: "hurr durr I only play one game at a time" 1) I don't 2) this stupid mentality prevents any shopping spree from a happy customer. They should have allowed SD cards in the first place so people would spend all their money on games. If I can't download a game and I have to remove stuff it certainly prevents people from just buying games. It's super annoying and they shoot themself in the foot with being too greedy. The vita only became interesting to me once SD2Vita released but by then it was already pretty much dead. His statement about who wants to play old ps1 games was super arrogant as well. Remember how the ps3 could do ps1, ps2 and ps3? What a beast. Seriously I hate Sony as a company and everything they stand for. The vita is an Indie machine for niche games and I like those. Sony invested in the vita at first and those games look amazing and show how powerful the vita are but resistance falling skies, kill zone (looks amazing) and uncharted were all super big AAA games but did anyone ever really care? I was blown away by the graphics but didn't have fun playing those games and this is what Sony stands for to me. And I think those expensive games weren't the killer apps where people said "OMG I need a vita". Sonys own franchises suck just like Sony and no I'm not a Microsoft or Nintendo fan boy. I just hate all of Sonys decisions and what Sony stands for and the vita is kept alive by an amazing community. This is what makes it great.
Ps vita technically is not discontinued console, store still works (though it's hard to buy games) i think new CEO will do 3 things
1) Help ps vita rise again
2) completely kill it to lessen strain on servers
3) or will not care about it (most likely)

I think it is too late for the Vita and the other older platforms. Too much of the old infrastructure has been dismantled. We may get a new handheld in 5 or so years but I doubt it will be a Vita II.

Its been good news to hear that he is leaving i hope the next person cares more about what the fans want. Hoping we get a new handheld or even just getting a launcher that works on current handhelds like steam deck, rog ally or something. Mostly because its too late in the game to start making catridges or something for a brand new handheld. There is already info talking about sony pc titles getting trophies so we might get a sony pc launcher or they will work with steam in a way.
My thoughts and opinions, I am sorry to say, are none. Because I do not follow who works in the Sony Company, I haven't got a clue who this bloke is. I only use their Vita handheld and PS 2 console (albeit it the PS 2 console being emulation only,) to play games. I have never been interested who works in a company, what there role is or what they say. As long as the consoles they produce plays the games I want to play, then yeah, I will use their console/handheld (either emulated or real.) Apart from that I couldn't care less. It's the same with every other console company I own. Who works for Nintendo, Microsoft (well I know Bill Gates, but only from Windows,) I haven't a clue. Why do I need to know? I have always been the same.

I complained about this guy virtually from the beginning. I kinda doubt it gets worse - he set the expectation bar quite low for me (basically turned me from a total PS fanboy into a person that's not even excited about PS5 Slim and PS VR 2). They say he watched over the PS5 release - yeah, he just reaped the rewards that PS4 generation got for Sony so anyone could succeed with the PS5 release.
As the interim guy is Japanese, things do look a bit better for handheld gaming as handhelds are quite big in Japan. It of course might mean they'll invest in games-as-a-service crap on smartphones but let's hope they'll recall the success of PSP (the actual console, not the accessory) and do something right this time.
