It's underrated while also in the spotlight. Like me in high school lmao. I had no idea so many people knew of me and also as an artist.
@@lyn4739to be fair the studio that made gravity rush 1-2 closed down because the games didn’t sell enough so Sony shacked them, I would say that means the games are probably underrated
13:42. Btw to clarify Adrenaline is not in the traditional way an "Emulator" like most emulators are a softwares that emulate hardware, instead It uses dedicated PSP hardware that the PSVita has to run the PSP mode including the backwards compatibility it already has for PSOne. The Adrenaline is pretty much unlocking the software the PSvita already has to run the PSP and PSOne games, and let you use it without restrictions. Sony, did really amazing working with the Vita.
veery small amount of games have trouble running inside adrenaline though but yes, its basically having a whole nother handheld inside the vita and thats amazing.
There are quite a bit of games that the community has been able to port games like Super Mario 64, the GTA trilogy, and Sonic Mania. Not every game runs perfectly, but overclocking the system can help stabilize frame rates for a good handful of games. It still is best for PS1/PSP/Vita titles, but the hacking scene is incredibly dedicated.
I tried this updated Vita hack after helping you out on Twitch, and it was super seamless. There's a couple of things this has enabled me to do that I'm really happy and excited for. EDIT: By the way, at 7:40 I didn't find the ULUS code for MGS: Peace Walker on my own Vita, I found it online. I only just got to watch the video (and thank you for the shout-out!) but just that part wasn't correct. Any game's UL code should be findable online.
A Vita feature that nobody talks about is the fact that you can use the camera to make (slightly janky) 360 panoramas. It was one of my favorite things to do whenever I took my Vita with me to various conventions I've attended.
No one talks about it because it’s old and janky. Quality is wack af. Why would anyone talk about that lmfao. No one talked about the camera on anything
I used to have a sony ericsson w300i flip phone back in 2006 that did the same thing and I took panorama photos everywhere, definitely a cool feature back then. I miss that phone, probably my favorite phone of all time
I actually found I had better luck with retro emulation by using the emulators that were made for the PSP and running them inside Adrenaline, as the PSP was an emulation machine. At least for what I played, which was mainly SNES, GBA, and NeoGeo/Capcom arcade systems.
@@KGFIQ It's been a while since I did it, but if I remember correctly, you have to put the emulators for the PSP into the Adrenaline folder. Inside the adrenaline folder, there should be a folder that's named "PSP", and in that one there's one named "Game". That's where you'll want to extract your emulators to. So adrenaline/PSP/Game. Then you'll see them show up in the games section of your PSP XMB (home screen) in adrenaline, where you can launch them.
@SuigaRou I find this is the case in most circumstances. regardless od the device used. these all in one emulators kinda suck. they are awesome for what they are. I just think they need some time. even retroarch which is the go to. struggles all the time with certain cores
@@Mirauge It has to do with the fact all-in-one's stretch their resources to fit as many systems as possible instead of refining them, and retroarch is run in such a way that they actively alienate any developers who port stuff into cores for them with bizarre licensing and a refusal to maintain proper updates. They're still using a version of mame from 2003, an over 20 year old version.
I hacked my Vita about 3 years ago. Found a tutorial on UA-cam and easily did it over the weekend. Added retro emulation, access to free games from psn store, overclocked it, changed the splash screen, main menu and bgm as well as adding micro sd access. No issues.
@@KESTWIN it's since been fixed I'd assume, I haven't had any problems. but I also don't keep my card information on the account, just use it purchase to purchase
One thing you missed were some of the homebrew ports of old games to the system - for example there's a native port of SM64 that runs way better than Daedalus. Among my favorites are AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) and Cannonball (a port of OutRun). Also it's sad to say but you might also have more luck in the emulation department by running some of the emulators made for the PSP within Adrenaline, like Snes9x and gpsp. They're on the whole older and less accurate than the native Vita ones, but accuracy doesn't count for much when you can't run the games full-speed. Finally, and this is a bit of an "🤓Umm, actually" comment: the PSP and PS1 emulation on the Vita is so good because technically it's not emulation, at least partially. The Vita has a secondary MIPS CPU specifically for running PSP mode, and the PSP CPU's instruction set is a superset of the PS1's so the PSP itself was actually running PS1 games natively.
The only reason I hacked my Vita was to use an SD card for storage. I got tired of not being able to fit all my games onto 1 card and the proprietary ones have always been ridiculously priced.
The thing I loved about the Vita was the suspend completely powers the device down, you can come back months later and the same game is still resumable.
It doesn't completely power down, it's just like standby on a phone or tablet. Not sure what insane battery you had that could keep sleep going for months? I think maybe a week or two is possible?
@@SportbikerNZ A bit late on this, but the vita uses suspend to ram sleep, which literally just saves what you're running to the ram, and powers off everything except for that ram. The closest thing to this is an old game cartridge that saves data to a built in ram chip kept powered by that save battery
Part of the reason the Vita is so good for PSP emulation is because it's not emulation. It runs PSP games natively. Thanks to it having a faster CPU/GPU, it also runs PSP games better than a PSP.
2:24 If your GBA roms are lagging on your PS VITA there is definitely something wrong with either your Vita or Retroarch settings. Mine runs flawlessly.
Bought a steam deck, thought I was going to replace my custom modded Vita. Boy was I wrong, I'm now trying to sell the steam deck... If I'm going to play AAA PC games, it's going to be on my main PC rig. But for portable gaming, it won't be anything unless the Vita! With the insane amount of work the community has done, it is hands down the best hand held anyone can own.
I really don't understand how are you having so many trouble with these hacks, I honestly had more issues doing the 3DS hack than the vita lol Edit: typo
Not sure why but one of my two vitas was more much difficult to mod than the other. It locked up twice during the installation process and I had to factory reset it. The other was a breeze and both were the 2000 model. I don't think it was particularly difficult but the 3DS guide seemed to have been written much more thoroughly and foolproof in comparison.
@@laz7777 very much agreed on this. The vita hack instructions are much more clumsy, especially around order to do things if you're partitioning an internal memory card.
I never owned a vita, but wanted a retro console. After thinking of raspberry pi and other stuff, I found out that just doing vita hack seemed easier. Never went through with cloud stuff like you or tried reviving old saves. I followed a video and within 30 minutes my vita was hacked and I could play vita ps1 psp games. Had 0 issues, smooth as a butter. Still have to do retroarch for all the gameboy nes stuff. Best money ever spent and it works.
Steamdeck sleep function is terrible. If you don't want the power to drain, you need to turn it off completely. I have a Vita and I just look at the Deck and wonder wth
The switch is pretty bad but sleep on my 3ds was amazing. I could leave it in sleep, with pokemon sun open, in my bag for 2-3 days and it barely made a dent to the power. Not to mention streetpass was a big thing. The ds, dsi and 3ds all had very good sleep performance. I've had DS lites on sleep for over a week and still be green. Though to be fair anything above 10% was green.
Best handheld, easy simple seamless process i hacked a few all under 10mins max, all intricate small tweaks added too, such as a few handpicked plugins i added etc.. amazing handheld
I was very ????????? with that part of the video. Like dawg do you only use expensive tech made in the last 2 years or something?? If the 2000 had a mini USB port instead, I'd understand.
Micro USB is 16 years old. USB-C's spec first started coming out 11 years ago but the first devices popped up around 8 years ago... and we're still seeing Micro-USB in some new devices, even now. :) USB-C is as old as Micro USB was when its replacement appeared and yet is still going strong because of its versatility for reuse for other things (thunderbolt etc). I think that's why folk look down on microUSB - it's seen as basically just a power connector that couldn't really do anything else that well. We even had those fugly micro type 3s attempt to fix that.
I trashed all of my micro USB cables and chargers as soon as usbc became the norm. Those little shitty connectors always had something wrong with them and didn't particularly charge quickly. I get the sentiment
Some of my favourite things to do is push hacked consoles to their limits with certain types of home brew and game emulation. Some worth note are homebrew ports of Sonic Mania and Final Fantasy IV 3D (these also exist in other homebrew community’s like the 3DS; it’s pretty fun to see how they compare). If you want decent emulation for GBA on a PSVita I would recommend gpSP for the PSP (it’s actually a PSP home brew that you run in adrenaline). There’s also cool UI things like making bubble icons for your PSP games and homebrew. I’d say a nice addition would be FTP clients to wirelessly send games to and from different devices (I’ve transferred GBA games to and from my hacked PSVita to my hacked 3DS; seeing those two consoles talk with each other is fun). Finally I’d say the retro flow launcher is a cool piece of homebrew that displays your games similarly to the Wii’s wiiflow application that can categorise your PSVita, PSP and PS1 library with cover art and a cool UI. Glad to hear you had a better time this round; I personally enjoy the struggle of unlocking the devices I own 😅
I don't think the old methods were that complicated to be honest, but the new one is definitely easier. Vita is probably my favourite PSP and PS1 device at this point. Also, the modding community is just the best and people are porting entire games to the platform.
3.60 was very easy but 3.65 was kinda a mess That's a big reason all my Vitas are still on 3.60. I did the 3.65 hack on the PSTV and that was even worse cause you can't even connect that directly to a computer.
I commented this on the last Vita video, but Adrenaline is NOT a PSP emulator. The front end and the games all run natively on Vita silicon, all Adrenaline does is separate them from the Vita’s OS.
Ever since I got the Vita, (very late to the party) it has been my grab and play buddy. I never turned on my Steam Deck and am planning on selling it coz all the games on Steam I can play on my PC or laptop. The Vita is just so easy to hold (can play with one hand), easy to mod, more ergonomic than my OLED switch, can stream on laptop for bigger viewing, fits in your pocket! Just very cool! Glad you tried it. :)
Unfortunately, their Q Lite is just going to be a remote play device. Sony just doesn't want to get into the handheld market, at least for now which I think is a mistake. I remember when one of their directors (former director now) said this message several years ago in an interview in front of a live audience (and I'm paraphrasing), "we just don't see the reason why we should make another portable handheld when you can just play games on your smartphone". Now, maybe they are secretly developing a handheld for the distant future but it seems unlikely. It would be awesome if they made a handheld similar to the Vita but not only could it stream and do remote play but it could also be dockable. Or, they just basically make a handheld similar to the GPD Win 4 (basically more like a handheld PC).
I appreciate that you gave it another look. It seemed to me that most of your problems with the hack stemmed from a general dislike of certain stock firmware features that the hack doesn't change. As far as custom firmware goes, the difficulty with installing for Vita is very front-loaded. Once it's done, the hack is pretty seamless. This is an immediately noted improvement over the custom firmware for most other consoles, which requires actions to be taken on every reboot. The Vita is definitely not a go-to for emulation. Since the base clock speed of the Vita is a shockingly low 333MHZ. You'll have a hard time getting anything not optimized for PlayStation hardware to run. This can be significantly improved through overclocking, which is really simple on Vita cfw. The Vita has it's downsides, so you definitely have to know what your getting into before you invest time, energy, and money into it.
You have to read the guide from the start to the end once, and then get the Vita and read again following the steps. It's like 101 of following guides.
@@Alexandro-so9jbif you actually use your vita I’d say it’s deffo worth tryna find a new charger even an off brand one, you won’t notice how much you use it until you cant
I don't know i bought my vita couple years ago unhacked and done the hack in maybe 1 hour or so and i never had a vita b4 neither did i ever used 1 and i used the old method were u needed a pc without any problems, seems to be skill issue to me lol.
I’ve never had problems hacking a vita and putting all the emulators I want on there. Sometimes connecting to the computer is frustrating and doesn’t want to make the initial connection but I’ve done 4 vitas and I recommend them as the best handheld emulator for the money, quality, and overall experience.
The PS Vita has been pretty much the most pleasant experience of my modded handhelds, getting games onto it is handy with PKGj and compared to the 3DS it was half the pain, the 3DS is just too much work to get games onto it and I haven't found a workaround that makes me want to play it, but I do get the gripes with the Vita and setting up an FTP protocol so you can transfer everything in the beginning.
I mean, Filezilla is the way to go, and it takes 5 minutes tops. I don't know why people think that is cumbersome, it takes more time to take off the SD card and put it into the adapter on your pc.....
I think you overthought this one. This hack is about as easy as it gets. I hacked 3 vitas at the same time in less than 20 minutes. Also, haven’t had any slowness on the emulated systems you talked about. It wasn’t that hard to hack before this browser method but now it’s even more seamless. You can even hack the 1000 models without any official Sony memory.
The guide might have over-complicated the process for him. I followed Blaine’s video guide and it was super easy. The written guide refers to many outdated parts of the process from the early days of vita hacking (ie the ftp client, which is unnecessary now)
Hey Wulff, had a hacked Vita for a few years now (hacked Vita TV and OG OLED model as a project early on in the pandemic). Totally agree about the amazing support to play Vita, PSP, and PS1, hands down my favorite device for those. But also agree about the disappointing Nintendo emulation. I've had issues with emulating Nintendo on the PSP, Vita, and PS3. On the other hand, I've had great results with all Nintendo emulation on the 3DS and Wii U, and poor results with emulating PS1. I've had other people say that's not true and it's fine but I'm glad to see somebody else experienced similar issues and I'm not alone in this. I just think that Nintendo having built in virtual console and/or native support always helps, ditto for Sony on their side. I still love both the Vita and 3DS, regardless.
a lot of the emulators, if there's a psp version available, will work better on adrenaline than the vita native ones, mostly down to how much larger that scene was and how much more work went into them.
There are some really great ports of old shooters on the vita as well which work fantastically with the two sticks, like doom, quake 1-3 and half life nowadays. I still find it very impressive that these also run with very minimal hiccups, the port of Quake 2 runs like a dream. Definitely need to dust my vita off and find the charger for it
Didn't have a lot of trouble with the new hack, tried it a few weeks ago. I had wiped my old hack and decided to start over. It didn't end up being too bad. I think it was half an hour to get it done. Really digging. Playing Armored Core on the go is great.
@@hideokojimajr haha. Sorry. I guess the only real reason was I wanted a clean start. I tend to do that with PCs/phones. I figured I'd just redo it. Install all my games to the sd2vita and just stop using my physical games altogether. That's about as far of reasoning I got
From what I have researched you can not use the modded Vita to play the ISO files of the UMD movies for the PSP and as such, that makes it kind of a non starter for me. I really love playing games on the PSP and find it so fun to watch the digital movies I do have on it as well. It’s just so charming. If the Vita would allow you to play those movie roms I would definitely go get one.
It does work for movies and PSP games. But it's better to just get a PSP 1k for $70 and hack it. I have a psp 3k which is nicer sure but the mods and hacks are limited vs the 1k for example the 1K can get a OLED screen a faster processor more memory bigger battery some real crazy stuff.
I have modded my vita and I would recommend looking into some of the homebrew games for the device. Games like NZP which is portable COD Zombies and the I Will Be There DEMO are interesting additions to the Vita and it’s fun to see what the vita hacking community has made. There’s even ports of Mario maker and the old fallout games.
I still have an OLED Vita and I wish I would have gotten an LCD one because the screen is now very dim. I admit I rarely touch the thing though. When I first got it I loved it though. Bought Persona 4 and Gravity Rush and was very impressed all those years ago. Killzone Mercenary and Soul Sacrifice was also super cool.
Never had any issues hacking vitas. Before hacking just read the entire guide and then, just then, follow it step by step. Actually you should do this with anything in your life that requires a guide or a manual.
@@DanielGonzalez-vo5ni I've got a limited edition silver 1000 model and the light blue slim. I adore my vita. Bought a win 4 just so I could have the same style with new toys.
I could be wrong, but I don't recall you mentioning anything about changing the CPU clock speed of the Vita. Those things that lagged a bit for you, may have played fine if you turned on the overclock and raised the CPU speed up. If you have not done this or didn't know about it, you are missing out on performance gains. You should be able to manually change the CPU clock speed anytime you want.
I will say it's never going to run GBA as well as a hacked 3DS if you have it. That carries all the old GBA architecture forward. Much better to run GBA games natively on 3DS than with Retroarch or similar.
@@dther6314 the old 3ds/2ds's cant really emulate gba all too well so you have to vc inject them into the system and run them natively like you would with a ds game. they run great but since theyre running native you cant do savestates, other emulator features etc. regardless, the vita is much more powerful than a 3ds and can emulate gba games flawlessly. youre not going to find much of a difference between a vc injection on a 3ds and emulation on the vita.
Making the instructions clearer and formatting it user friendly is a great idea. But it's also a great idea to completely read the instructions before following them
I hacked mine when 3.50 was the newest firmware (I'm bad at time so that's the marker I can remember) and I'm not gonna say it was "seamless" or w/e but griping about shitty cables is not the hurdle I'd have thought to signal out, especially since if you connect it to your pc via wifi (like i did, cause it's a button on the content manager) drivers and cables aren't a thing. fucking having to download a save and inject code into it was a command line utility was definitely the jank
Good video, but a few notes from someone thats been doing this with vitas for a few years: -If your Vita has 3.60 or below, stay on/update to that, the process for that is far easier than the hack for 3.65 (it'll even install molecularshell for you when you do the webexploit) and is functionally identical to 3.65 - If you press start in vitashell you can switch from FTP to USB, and you can just set the USB device to memory card, or sd2vita, and transfer your files over that way. - the reason PS1 and PSP 'emulation' run so smooth is because the vita has an overclocked PSP SOC included (and the PSP is basically a superclocked PS1, so those games run natively as well) - ux0/ is your memory card so that will be the directory pspemu is in, all the other directories are system directories The other 2 you *might* run into are imc0/ (internal memory card if you have another memory card inserted) and uma0/ (gamecard) but you generally won't need to touch those, and they aren't mounted by default - Chiaki used to work but an update to the PS5 changed some remote play stuff, and the app hasn't been updated to accommodate this
@@wilfredwayne7139 I personally would downgrade because you can't do permanent CFW on that, but if you're okay running the hack every time 3.68 is fine
if didnt know that port on the bottom of handheld is for more than charging. you can also connect to obs or whatever you use for streaming so can play on tv no physical modding required. the port on the top was actually supposed to do this, but i havent seen the adapter for it, but the handheld does have a chip inside like the switch does. this requires a plugin from autoplugins app in order to cast to tv or pc. i dont understand why someone would throw away a vita. my neighbor was throwing out random junk cause they were moving and to my surprise the first thing i found was a ds lite. when found this i decided to dig deeper in the mess of junk cause i needed the charge cable and at the bottom of a box filled with hot wheel cars and legos was a vita 1000. no cable again so taking a chance i ordered one on amazon and jackpot it worked. a little damaged and right analog stick wont work, but touch functionality and everything else was fine. now im waiting on a new shell and stick, but to those that need a new analog stick for the 1000 model its like searching for a needle in a haystack. most replacements are for the 2000 model and they dont work with the older model
Something I completed forgot to tell Bob during the stream is that you can actually Set up your Vita to connect with OBS on your computer via USB cable (I'm using a 1001 model) and play the games on a bigger screen with a ps3 - ps4 controller. But is just easier to get a Vita TV lol.
As a Vita owner please just let me say THANK YOU for making this video. I was trying to hack it at the end of last year and was infuriated to no end at how broken the process was. I finally was able to thanks to the wifi method but even after doing that it's incredibly convoluted to do anything w a hacked vita that requires a usb cable. From the bottom of my heart thank you for calling out how trash the Vita is and for taking the community down a notch. I no longer feel as dumb for being frustrated with it. (In fact now I'm wondering if I should try a retro handheld. Up until now I assumed they are no good, but by the sound of things, they're actually more up to speed than the Vita is? For real?)
I also have a hacked vita and GBA, N64, and SNES emulation works pretty well on mine. I would suggest you to overclock the vita. This won’t harm your system because Sony actually downclocked the vita, so by overclocking you are essentially using the vita how it was intended to run.
@Kitz he obviously doesn't know wtf he's doing so tired of this guy bashing the vita ....They Need to make a Jackass Proof method specifically for him
@Kitz literally more than 85% of this vid is false and the thing is there's people out there that would see this vid and really listen to this guy and think vita is terrible and can't even run gba ...Which Is Sad 😪 ! bro needs to check his research he could type in psp game id and find his game for the save file he wants Its That simple bro somebody had to help Him ???(slycooperfan) I'm not being mean but he doesn't know what he doing and just spreading False info Straight Up !
Glad you gave it another chance. One thing you failed to mention though is the insane number of homebrew ports that are on this. GTA Trilogy, Bully, Super Mario 64, Sonic 1,2, CD, and Mania, A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy III and IV remake, Fallout 1 and 2, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
In my experience, retroarch has never been reliable for literally anything. The stand alone emulators are what actually work. But retroarch has like a super split down the middle vibe in the vita community. Mostly because it doesn't actually work or run at all on some vitas and the reason isn't super clear. Or from what I saw when I was looking into it. The other thing a lot of us have is an overclocking doohickey installed. Which helps an awful lot with frames and such.
I love how raw you are with your reviews haha. I have a few handheld emulators myself but don’t have any PSP’s. Even tho this video was kind of a knock on hacking the device, I still want one haha.

Convinced a friend in the last few days to buy the vita after talking about it all the time for a few years now and walked two separate friends through the process of hacking it. Gotta say im happy with just how streamlined the process is these days even with a few issues with the guide in mind. Having ps1, psp, vita, and some ps2/ps3 ports on a single consoles is one of the coolest things out there. You do have to do some digging for the non jrpg and indie titles that are fun but theres quite a few out there that are great. Glad you gave the handheld another shot
Sonic Mania has a native homebrew Vita port now, you should definitely try that out! You need a specific file from the PC version, but once that is in the right spot on the Vita it will load fine.
Okay I know I am super late to this conversation but to but say my points fast here it is: 1) Although following written guides are good personally I found the vita jailbreak video by retro game corps to be my best resource through the process of hacking my vita 2) For emulation, I found Genesis emulation to be quite good using the pgen emulator and its counter part for snes emulation 3) For games and 3rd party programs outside the vita's reach, I mainly used the ftp client on my phone to download then upload whatever i needed, on my vita 4) For games to play on the vita, I would suggest the: gow collection, sly cooper 1,2,3 and thieves in time, jet set radio, rayman origins and legends, uncharted, velocity ultra, gucamelee, and axiom verge ( there are more I probably missed and if you can think of any please leave them in the comments!)
00:52 why not read the guide and have patience with the process. Vids don’t work for this unless your using a really really thorough guide that’s less than a month old (which is not easy to come by) and even then your not guarenteed it will work first time. That’s why patience is key.
This is why I joined a Facebook group "Vita hacks and mods" asked tons of questions talked to people. Than watched multiple step-by-step videos by different people to get the different perspectives maybe one person knows an easier way or explains it better. Than I even went to sites and read the step-by-steps. And now after having done all that I'm watching your video now. See I got myself a PSP 3k and Dove right in hacking it found a video with tons of views and likes and just went with it. Turns out it was outdated and the CFW I downloaded is very buggy and cannot be removed now for some reason or at least I don't know how yet. Also had issues with getting the games themselves to work or "uncompress" after downloading they show up as 7z so I had to download more apps on my 10 year old laptop cause it's 2023 unless your gaming on a pc there isn't a need for one I have a Samsung Galaxy 7+ tablet with dex system and a galaxy note 20 ultra+ so I got the apps to unzip or uncompress them files only to have them not work could be doing something wrong idk I know my way around computers but I am not a hacker or programmer by any stretch of the definition so I am still Lost in the sauce as far as the PSP 3K goes.. so I pulled the trigger and got the Vita 2k seems a lot more straight forward no need for a pc great job there. And I want psp and psv games. Sure playing some old school Mario Mario kart Zelda maybe some Sonic would be nice but not a priority besides I have Sonic and Mario on my Android device and every Mario on my game boy sp and advance
You should get an L2/R2 grip. It makes the PS1 experience so much better AND there's a plugin called PS4Linkcontrols that takes L2 and R2 from the front touchscreen to the back touchpad so that you can use the grip for PS4 games too, but you can't remoteplay to the PS5... Officially... Also, there's a plugin called ReVita that lets you change and modify controls on a per game basis, for instance I've completely remapped Star Wars Battlefront II for PSP to have modern controls. I also set the right stick to perform macros so I have native camera support in assassin's creed bloodlines Also Also, there are specific plugins for adrenaline called Camera Patch that give you native camera support for the PSP Metal Gear Solid games and the PSP GTA games.
The vita slim design is so satisfying to hold. I like the OLED too but design wise the vita has it. And pstv was the first consolized handheld from a major company minus the gameboy player, which is loosley an adapter more than a consolized device.
The original vita hack for firmware 3.60 which I believe was Henkaku was always web based. But it had required to redo it for every reboot. Then the Enso version came out and it became persistent after reboot. So by saying it wasnt easy is not exactly true. Mine has been running this way for years. Im assuming you had updated past 3.60 thats why it was difficult for you. Better to be specific.
I never hacked anything in my life until I tried with a Vita a couple years ago. Online people said it's one of the easiest to start with. So I did. Super easy. Not convoluted at all. Not sure why your experience was like that. As a noob, I found it simple. I followed the steps and it worked. What more can I want? I got a PSP emulated on there, tons of games and always trying new stuff when I have time. I recently hacked my PS3 and that was a bit trickier but nothing insane. Happy with both systems now. On my list I have my PS4 Pro which I'll wait a few years for still, but I also have an old DS Lite I was given. Or DSi? I forget. But that would be cool to have for DS ROMs.
I've been hacking systems for years, and I even soldered a few back in the 32bit era, and while I didn't find the Vita hack super hard, it wasn't super easy either(and I'm far from being an expert). As for emulation, it's hit or miss, and the main reason I hacked my Vita was for native PS1/PSP games, as that's a game changer for me. Being able to play PSP games, with actual dual analog sticks and not that crap nub, is worth it all on it's own. Being able to use a micro SD is also one of the best features of the hack. So while emulation isn't great for some newer systems, the ones that run well, run very well and the Android port scene is pretty robust as well. When I first hacked my Vita, I did run tons of emulation on it, but since getting an Odin(and soon a Steam Deck), I just prefer other devices to fill that need. But it was very solid for the time I used it, I just made sure not to try and run things above it's weight class and everything was fine. But it's still the ultimate handheld for PS1, PSP and of course the Vita itself(3 amazing generations of Sony systems in the palm of your hand).
I loved my Vita back in the day, I unfortunately had to sell it when we were strapped for cash following a small house fire. I often consider buying a new one to mod, but I can't really justify it when I already have a Steam Deck + modded 3DS + an Anbernic handheld already covering basically anything I could realistically want to play. Still, it was a wonderful handheld and way ahead of its time.
I had the same issues do I decided to just read all the instructions before starting and besides that I messed it a bit, always nice to see that I'm not the only one that struggled
I think the reason modern handhelds are often so big is because of smart phones. Most people don't see the need for a pocketable device for games like that anymore because they already pretty much have one, so nowadays handhelds have to be big and clunky to have to power to play games that aren't possible on phones
The vita is excellent for playing n64, snes, nes, gba, and gbc idk what plugins you’re running but there are ones that overclock the system to make it run smoother. Also there have been a lot of updates to those emulators for vita which make them run perfectly. Ex. DaedalusX64, psnes, pnes, mgba run perfectly with most roms. N64 is the only one that might not be the most stable at times
You say the vita is excellent for playing n64, then you say n64 is the only one that might not be the most stable at times. Wulff didn't have much luck with it.
@@SportbikerNZ I posted my reply 3 months after he uploaded this video so n64 was working fully at that point. I was saying that certain games had lower fps. Try it for yourself. It’s nice performance
i STILL dont like this new video... you keep explaining everything like if you mess up your vita will explode.. its not that serious. its not easy to mess up that badly 10:39 what do you mean read ahead?! its RIGHT THERE in the next line. hold L!! Bob, love you, but you're a boomer. hacking the Vita is/was easy also: PLEASE use your vita for any retro emulation.. not just playstation. retroarch runs great.
I used the updated video guide that's been making the rounds and....I've had 0 issues. Plays PSP, Vita, and PS1 games with no issues. I was even able to use my FFX save between my vita and PS5 so I could always play it on the go so honestly, the video does a damn good job.
One thing I have learned from watching videos of Bob following guides is read the whole guide more the once before even starting to mess with any device or you will see a step that needed to be done and u already did or didn't do what was told to do lol.
yeah that part really bugged me about this video, like just read even 1 step ahead before doing something like its not hard to read ahead and it would solve most of the issues he had with this
@@souldew2still the writers fault though, why not include info that could mess up your system before the instructions to do it shouldn't be up to reader, the one who knows nothing about modding hence why they're reading a guide, especially when other moding guides tell ya something can break your system before you actually go through with instructions
@@Raddish-IS-Radd i dont see how that changes anything, if you are going to mod something you have to understand there is risk of breaking something, and therefore you should be reading ahead, also even if you know anything about modding you are going to read a guide, like im not going to mod my 3ds or switch without reading a guide no matter how many times ive done it

13:14 if i were to guess, the reason as to why you'd want to use FTP is for convenience- so that you *don't* have to remove the sd card then put it back in the vita. i don't own a vita but i own a new 3ds which i followed the written guide to hack it. ftp apps are commonly recommended since removing the sd card on the new 3ds requires you to remove the screws on the back plate. using ftp apps are optional but very, very convenient
wulff i love your content but the temu sponsor is very upsetting (same goes for RGT 85) because the app uses a lot of misleading tactics to fool users into thinking they're getting a steal or earning money when in reality it's a referral trap
Two things I'm noticing is that one people may get sound like attack a 3DS you just go to a website and it does everything for you and number two the Vita should be more powerful than the 3DS so the fact that the 3DS can run Super Nintendo games and the Vita can't is very weird.
I'm surprised you had so much trouble with the vita hacking. It's almost as simple as the PSP was and less complicated than the 3ds in my opinion (bricking is almost impossible if you follow the steps correctly from experience) so I personally never had issues with mine. I do recommned possibly doing a USB C mod for your vita since your port sounds like it might just be bad, never had problems with mine from all the way back to windows 7 to currently windows 11 now. Vita C is the one I would recommend. I agree that it's best for ps1, vita and PSP games, no other android or pc handheld does it as well or easily imo without compromises. It's ok for anything SNES and below but pretty bad for gba and n64 sadly. Also something I dont think you mentioned was vitashell, an app that will easily let you transfer files to and from your vita connected via usb without having to remove your sd card.
He literally blamed the community for HIS fuck ups when doing a software mod... and this isnt the first time either. He did it with the Steam Deck shell swap lol. Got up a guide from the manufacturer of the shell and decided he knew a better way. It of course backfired. Point is I dont think modding is this guys thing at all lol.
Yeah, I literally followed the steps from Vita Hacks step by step and had no issue. The only reason the Vita Homebrew Browser doesn't work is because that particular app shit the fan, otherwise it's so simple to do, he just made his own life harder unecessarily and decided to say that it's difficult altogether. As someone who has modded several of my own retro consoles, it's mostly straightforward and easy.
Thanks for the video! I appreciate your take on this whole process, and giving it another go. I'm no Vita purest or anything, just someone who likes messing around with all things emulation. I have a 3DS and an OLED first model vita both hacked, multiple retropies, and a ton of pc emulators. Of all of them, yes, Vita is the most complicated. 3DS is super simple, and you can download pretty much ready to go images for retropies. As far as the GBA performance in Retro Arch, did you try changing the emulator core? I have found that GBA Next is really good, I played through a bunch of pokemon romhacks on there. For SNES I used a different emulator core as well and played through FFV without issue. And Yes, N64 is super hit or miss (mainly miss). Overall, I love the OLED screen on the Vita I have, so its my go to for PS1/PSP/Vita emulation and a lot of 16-bit games. Hopefully the whole emulation scene just keeps improving like this and get even easier!👍
I wish I was seeing this when the video was posted, because I'm beyond surprised how many people do NOT realize that if you have windows 10 or 11, are transferring files from the Vita to PC or vice versa over the same WiFi network, you can choose to enable FTP transfer on the Vita (in Vitashell) and then just type in the exact address displayed into the file browser on the desktop to see, copy, and/or transfer files in realtime between the devices. No 3rd party FTP clients or anything necessary, and still wireless. It's slow, but that is how I put all of my games on my Vita that aren't physical or downloaded from PSN.
I'm sorry, but you followed a guide to jailbreak your device, something that can brick it without reading it fully at first before doing it? You are playing with fire.
Mines been hacked for a few years now and I love my Vita, still play it daily and have love GBA and SNES games on it. I've got the original vita with the proprietary charging port which will one day need an upgrade no doubt...
i suggest next time to first analyze and read about the console and hacks before proceeding, I usually read the whole process one or 2 times to understand and not forget any step ;)
Vita is probably one of my favourite handhelds of all time. I did this hack when theFlow released it back in the day and pretty much never had to redo this ever again. It is super stable. Vita is not great for emulation, but it has a great library already + PSP + PS1 games.
So far as I know the vita storefront is still live. You just cant make purchases directly with like paypal or a credit card. Only money that is tied to your account like with PS store credit. Just FYI.

A Vita feature that nobody talks about is the fact that you can use the camera to make (slightly janky) 360 panoramas. It was one of my favorite things to do whenever I took my Vita with me to various conventions I've attended.
I discovered that by accident a few days ago. I love it.
I miss that phone, probably my favorite phone of all time
No one talks about it because it’s ass
@@mrchiggen Was there another device from that era with a camera that had that feature?
I actually found I had better luck with retro emulation by using the emulators that were made for the PSP and running them inside Adrenaline, as the PSP was an emulation machine. At least for what I played, which was mainly SNES, GBA, and NeoGeo/Capcom arcade systems.
how did you do that?
Personally, i find the latest version of RetroArch nightly to be the better option, as long as you overclock it and set it up right.
I hacked my Vita about 3 years ago. Found a tutorial on UA-cam and easily did it over the weekend. Added retro emulation, access to free games from psn store, overclocked it, changed the splash screen, main menu and bgm as well as adding micro sd access. No issues.

It is very sketchy. I question the integrity of anyone that recommends it.

Facts.
The thing I loved about the Vita was the suspend completely powers the device down, you can come back months later and the same game is still resumable.
plus it barrely consumes battery, i can have it on standby mode for weeks and resume a game and itll go down like 1 or 2%
Resumable maybe but some games messed up save files if left to sleep mode for a long time
It doesn't completely power down, it's just like standby on a phone or tablet. Not sure what insane battery you had that could keep sleep going for months? I think maybe a week or two is possible?
@@SportbikerNZ at least 1 month or 2 for the 2000 now the 3ds is max 5days lol
@@SportbikerNZ A bit late on this, but the vita uses suspend to ram sleep, which literally just saves what you're running to the ram, and powers off everything except for that ram. The closest thing to this is an old game cartridge that saves data to a built in ram chip kept powered by that save battery
Part of the reason the Vita is so good for PSP emulation is because it's not emulation. It runs PSP games natively. Thanks to it having a faster CPU/GPU, it also runs PSP games better than a PSP.

The PSVita also has an insanely good sleep function. That's what sleep is supposed to be, huge difference to Switch or 3DS.
Dunno about the steamdeck.
Steamdeck sleep function is terrible. If you don't want the power to drain, you need to turn it off completely. I have a Vita and I just look at the Deck and wonder wth
you could leave your vita turned on, forget about it for a while, eventually find it again & see the battery only decreased by 10%
The switch is pretty bad but sleep on my 3ds was amazing.

Micro USB is 16 years old.
USB-C's spec first started coming out 11 years ago but the first devices popped up around 8 years ago... and we're still seeing Micro-USB in some new devices, even now. :)
USB-C is as old as Micro USB was when its replacement appeared and yet is still going strong because of its versatility for reuse for other things (thunderbolt etc).
Tbf type c is so common these day. Sometime i want to charge my laptop, i can't find a single micro line.

That's a big reason all my Vitas are still on 3.60. I did the 3.65 hack on the PSTV and that was even worse cause you can't even connect that directly to a computer.
Agreed
I mainly agree, but I've had a hacked vita for a few years now and I still can't get Valkyrie Profile to run on it. I really want to play that game...
I commented this on the last Vita video, but Adrenaline is NOT a PSP emulator. The front end and the games all run natively on Vita silicon, all Adrenaline does is separate them from the Vita’s OS.
I just got a Vita a couple days ago for the first time, did my first hack of anything, and found the process to be much easier than you described 🤷🏾♂
a new psp console or new generation of portable consoles from sony would be massive
They should have another crack at the Xperia Play. Their mobile division is on the decline and they dont have a modern handheld. Win win

This. GBA emulation is so much better on a PSP or in Adrenaline for example
What were your reasons for going to the new hack? I’m wondering if I should do it.
@@hideokojimajr gonna be honest. I was bored.
@@DrazenX195 I appreciate the honesty
Yes you can! There is a mod that runs a psp firmware on it
It does work for movies and PSP games.
NZP is absolutely horrible the ai is terrible the graphics the are terrible uhh yeah idk it's just not very good
The black SD2Vita works on the older model, you have the slim you'll need the white one.
PSVITA is probably the console that I most regret selling. I miss that console so much.
Buy it back bro. Dont wait. It will only get more expensive
@@Drivenbyi just bought a 3ds and I’m gonna do it for the vita bro
Buy another. They are cheap. You can get one in good condition for about $125 from Japan.

Idk why gba emulation is like this, works perfect for me. Also, PSP and PS1 doesn't run "like native", it IS native
I will say it's never going to run GBA as well as a hacked 3DS if you have it. That carries all the old GBA architecture forward. Much better to run GBA games natively on 3DS than with Retroarch or similar.
@@jamesismay1518 weirdly, my GBA games runs like shit on my 2DS, and flawlessly on my Vita
Still don't know why for the 2DS, but i don't care anymore
@@dther6314 the old 3ds/2ds's cant really emulate gba all too well so you have to vc inject them into the system and run them natively like you would with a ds game. they run great but since theyre running native you cant do savestates, other emulator features etc.
regardless, the vita is much more powerful than a 3ds and can emulate gba games flawlessly. youre not going to find much of a difference between a vc injection on a 3ds and emulation on the vita.
PSP is native, not PS1
Making the instructions clearer and formatting it user friendly is a great idea. But it's also a great idea to completely read the instructions before following them
I hacked mine almost 2 years ago. I thought it was simple enough and it plays gba, nes and snes very well. Small handful of n64 games too
I hacked mine when 3.50 was the newest firmware (I'm bad at time so that's the marker I can remember) and I'm not gonna say it was "seamless" or w/e but griping about shitty cables is not the hurdle I'd have thought to signal out, especially since if you connect it to your pc via wifi (like i did, cause it's a button on the content manager) drivers and cables aren't a thing. fucking having to download a save and inject code into it was a command line utility was definitely the jank
I did the vita hack half asleep and it was on a 1000 model, how do you not have a connector when you literally need one to charge it?
Good video, but a few notes from someone thats been doing this with vitas for a few years:
-If your Vita has 3.60 or below, stay on/update to that, the process for that is far easier than the hack for 3.65 (it'll even install molecularshell for you when you do the webexploit) and is functionally identical to 3.65
- If you press start in vitashell you can switch from FTP to USB, and you can just set the USB device to memory card, or sd2vita, and transfer your files over that way.
- the reason PS1 and PSP 'emulation' run so smooth is because the vita has an overclocked PSP SOC included (and the PSP is basically a superclocked PS1, so those games run natively as well)
- ux0/ is your memory card so that will be the directory pspemu is in, all the other directories are system directories
The other 2 you *might* run into are imc0/ (internal memory card if you have another memory card inserted) and uma0/ (gamecard) but you generally won't need to touch those, and they aren't mounted by default
- Chiaki used to work but an update to the PS5 changed some remote play stuff, and the app hasn't been updated to accommodate this
Mine is 3.68 should I downgrade or just stay as is?
@@wilfredwayne7139 I personally would downgrade because you can't do permanent CFW on that, but if you're okay running the hack every time 3.68 is fine
@@Plumtopia it's simple enough to do isn't it? Just have to reinstall everything.
@@wilfredwayne7139 you shouldn't have to reinstall anything when you downgrade, just use moduru and downgrade to 3.65 or 3.60
if didnt know that port on the bottom of handheld is for more than charging. you can also connect to obs or whatever you use for streaming so can play on tv no physical modding required. the port on the top was actually supposed to do this, but i havent seen the adapter for it, but the handheld does have a chip inside like the switch does. this requires a plugin from autoplugins app in order to cast to tv or pc. i dont understand why someone would throw away a vita. my neighbor was throwing out random junk cause they were moving and to my surprise the first thing i found was a ds lite. when found this i decided to dig deeper in the mess of junk cause i needed the charge cable and at the bottom of a box filled with hot wheel cars and legos was a vita 1000. no cable again so taking a chance i ordered one on amazon and jackpot it worked. a little damaged and right analog stick wont work, but touch functionality and everything else was fine. now im waiting on a new shell and stick, but to those that need a new analog stick for the 1000 model its like searching for a needle in a haystack. most replacements are for the 2000 model and they dont work with the older model
Mine isn't overclocked and SNES and GBA runs perfectly.
@Kitz he obviously doesn't know wtf he's doing so tired of this guy bashing the vita ....They Need to make a Jackass Proof method specifically for him

@Kitz also the vita doesn't emulate ps1 and psp it playing natively Also A Other false thing he said Jesus Christ dese youtubers 🙄 be Clueless
The bleeped out cuss words with PlayStation sounds was the best part of this video

Okay I know I am super late to this conversation but to but say my points fast here it is:
1) Although following written guides are good personally I found the vita jailbreak video by retro game corps to be my best resource through the process of hacking my vita
2) For emulation, I found Genesis emulation to be quite good using the pgen emulator and its counter part for snes emulation
3) For games and 3rd party programs outside the vita's reach, I mainly used the ftp client on my phone to download then upload whatever i needed, on my vita
4) For games to play on the vita, I would suggest the: gow collection, sly cooper 1,2,3 and thieves in time, jet set radio, rayman origins and legends, uncharted, velocity ultra, gucamelee, and axiom verge ( there are more I probably missed and if you can think of any please leave them in the comments!)
00:52 why not read the guide and have patience with the process. Vids don’t work for this unless your using a really really thorough guide that’s less than a month old (which is not easy to come by) and even then your not guarenteed it will work first time. That’s why patience is key.
i did this easily my first try i had no issues i think you made this far more complicated then it is and will deter people from wanting to try
"How far do I have to read ahead?" - Literally just under what you just read, i.e. right under your nose LMFAO
I also set the right stick to perform macros so I have native camera support in assassin's creed bloodlines
Also Also, there are specific plugins for adrenaline called Camera Patch that give you native camera support for the PSP Metal Gear Solid games and the PSP GTA games.
Bro. It's not that hard to see "WHILE YOUR DEVICE IS RESTARTING." Guy reads "jump" and just feckin goes for it....

Every time this man does/says something related to the Vita, the Vita nerds all come out of their burrows with some sort of grievance or the other 😂😂😂
I had the same issues do I decided to just read all the instructions before starting and besides that I messed it a bit, always nice to see that I'm not the only one that struggled
16:53 I think a lot of modern handhelds have forgotten we want to put it in our pockets
I think the reason modern handhelds are often so big is because of smart phones. Most people don't see the need for a pocketable device for games like that anymore because they already pretty much have one, so nowadays handhelds have to be big and clunky to have to power to play games that aren't possible on phones
Honestly it's easy to mod it you really don't need usb or any special ways, all you need is wifi
snes and gba run fine, you just gotta try the other retroarch cores, gpsp and snes 9x2002 were the best i found
Did you have to format the memory card?
Ps vita so much better than project q, feels like they r progresing backwards
The vita is excellent for playing n64, snes, nes, gba, and gbc idk what plugins you’re running but there are ones that overclock the system to make it run smoother. Also there have been a lot of updates to those emulators for vita which make them run perfectly. Ex. DaedalusX64, psnes, pnes, mgba run perfectly with most roms. N64 is the only one that might not be the most stable at times
You say the vita is excellent for playing n64, then you say n64 is the only one that might not be the most stable at times. Wulff didn't have much luck with it.

One thing I have learned from watching videos of Bob following guides is read the whole guide more the once before even starting to mess with any device or you will see a step that needed to be done and u already did or didn't do what was told to do lol.
As long as you don't read two words at a time and go for it you're good

13:14 if i were to guess, the reason as to why you'd want to use FTP is for convenience- so that you *don't* have to remove the sd card then put it back in the vita.
i don't own a vita but i own a new 3ds which i followed the written guide to hack it. ftp apps are commonly recommended since removing the sd card on the new 3ds requires you to remove the screws on the back plate. using ftp apps are optional but very, very convenient
You don't even have to do either of those, you can just plug your vita in to your computer directly and switch from ftp mode to usb mode in vitashell

But isnt temu promoting nintendo switch for $7 ?

I've got the original vita with the proprietary charging port which will one day need an upgrade no doubt...
i suggest next time to first analyze and read about the console and hacks before proceeding, I usually read the whole process one or 2 times to understand and not forget any step ;)
also, most of the good emulators than run well can be found for PSP ;) which can be run in adrenaline, so yeah, emulating emulators xD
oh, dont forget also homebrews, and ports, we have now gta trilogy on vita :D
The Vita BGM at the start hit me with a fucking tidal wave of nostalgia.
