  • So many players struggle to develop power on the backhand volley and there are a few things that you should focus on!
Particularly for a shot where the muscle group creating the action is small, using the body to develop power is crucial! This starts literally from the toes up with this shot - the use of the left foot/leg is so important!

    Hey Sandy,
I wouldn’t mind if you could do one of these videos,
    - Topspin Smash technical breakdown -
    - When to turn or move away on a double glass shot -
    - When to hit down the line or into the glass -
    - How to identify weaknesses of your opponents (Test Points) -

Noted...when you say hit down the line or into the glass - are you referring to from the volley?

A video about identifying opponents' weaknesses would indeed be super helpful! And great stuff as usual, Sandy!

You are an inspiration to us all Sandy! Great work explaining all these many aspects to consider and practice. As of late, I've been seeing the case where the player will go for too much slice on this volley (because of the grip or general slice style), and that will result in such a weak shot that will create multiple opportunities for the opponents to counterattack the ball. So, in a way, if you're hitting flat, you're already attacking the ball. Especially with the continental grip, hitting flat is actually more difficult than with slice. I´ve never have thought about it until now! I'm going to have to experiment with hitting some backhand volleys flat and hard! Cheers.

Thank you and let me know how that experimentation goes!! But yes, for this shot flat is more difficult than slice for most.

Great timing on this! Played in a tournament this weekend (lost but had fun!) and a few of the guys were doing this quite well. I often hit too low I think below shoulder height. Also, Padel here in Lisbon, Portugal is picking up! :D

@@diogocoutinho1670 I have yet to find the perfect forum for finding Padel tournaments in or around Lisbon. Mostly I hear about it from fellow Padel players. Sometimes, the only form of advertising is a print out in the club 😁. Joining a variety of groups to stay in the know seems to be the best way to stay aware of upcoming events.
This tournament was at Aquafitness near Costa Da Caparica. I've played in others in Alcantara, Pricipe Real, and Alvalade.

@@ThePadelSchool Oh! Okay. How low is too low? For some reason I often end up dropping my racket way below the net to block it back.

Great video Mate. Love the extra production on these recent videos. Great explanation. Two things I would like to mention. I think you forgot to mention the split step to gain extra reaction time. And second, can you make some of the text overlays a little bolder? They are hard to read on smaller screen.
    Keep it up!

Interesting, was considering even removing the text overlay, but you like it? Will make a note!

@@ThePadelSchool I think is a good aid to highlight the key aspects of what you are talking about. It is not to distracting from you and what you are doing on camera. If you were considering removing them, may I suggest doing a small quick summary (10-15 secs) at the end of the video. I find those very useful as a final reminder of what your covered in the video and put the text overlaya there. Great Job as always!

I’m having a hard time controlling the high volley with the backhand, resulting in almost ”balloning” the ball in the back glass with no chance of the ball hitting the floor. Feels like I’m hitting the ball to high with power like you just described in the video so definitely will look in on my technique forthcoming weeks

    • @joesepu
      @joesepu 2 роки тому +1

I had the same issue. Check how far back you are doing the backswing. Turn and freeze the racket when it reaches your back shoulder. That is more than enougj and will give your extra time. Also, remember to do a split step when the opponent is about to hit the ball.
