- Hey everyone! I wanted to make a video that I hope can start some people on their building journey! I know when I completed my first big project it was one of my most proud moments!
Materials you will need:
Cabinets - sizes depending on your build
1x4 trim
Butcher block or your preferred countertop
Screws
Glue
Stain
Handles
Sander
Tools you will need
Drill & Driver
Chop Saw
Level
Measuring Tape
Pencil
Speed Square
This is such a great piece and what a feeling when someone is in your home says wow! what an island! "I built that" will feel so great.
Property developer here from England 🇬🇧 . I only just discovered you about an hour ago and I must say your work is 100% quality .

Nicely done! I appreciate the comment on how far away the island should be placed from other cabinets. I don't think I have heard any other person on YT give out that piece of advice.
Thanks hanks so much! I really try to make these videos helpful. Glad ad you have noticed :)
I clicked on another video that claimed it was “easy” but looked very difficult and tedious. This was exactly what I wanted and needed. Thank you!

Wow you do amazing work making an island in one day🎉. I'm just looking to see how I can make my island taller. ( Looks like getting a thick piece of butcher block is the way to go!!) ❤
Thanks so much!
You could also see if your island is removable And build a taller base. Then you could just cap it in baseboard and paint it to match
Good luck !!
I gotta say you made this seem so easy. Maybe even gave me the courage to try myself lol
haha awesome! Let me know if you try it out

amazing! im so glad I could help you! its really not that hard. good luck!
Moving solid wood slabs like it weighted nothing. Love it! I want an island but my kitchen is small and is not practical 😭😭😭 loved your job looks amazing!
Haha thanks! Being a cheerleader for so many years paid off lol. Can you build a small one? Maybe on wheels to push out of the way?
@@dcwoodworks hay thanks for replying. It is a small house so the kitchen is shared with the dining table. Technically the dining table is my island 🤣😂. Hopefully one day I can expand a house and have a proper dining room and free up space for an island. I could build a small one but small and tall worries me that I will tilt it over with my clumsiness. However I think I should analyze if my kitchen could be remodel into a more practical design.
I already watched it a few days ago but I’m watching again!! I love the results ❤️💕
Yay! Thank you!!!
It looks even more amazing after the stain was sanded off!
thanks!! I think so too and it was an OOPSIE lol

This is a really great idea. I really wanted an island for our office kitchen but I couldn't find one with the right dimensions or that was in the budget but I am thinking this will fit the bill! And as a DIY, it is definitely affordable.
Thanks!! I’m glad you found it helpful. It’s such a great way to customize your space. Good luck!!
The recommended worktop overhang for a breakfast bar is 300mm. This overhang is needed to be able to get chairs and your legs underneath it, to be able to sit comfortably. The smallest width an island with breakfast bar seating for 2 people can be, is between 1000mm & 1200mm wide. This is because you need between 500mm & 600mm for each seat under the breakfast bar
I love this!! I need to budget as I’m buying a home on my own, I need to diy a lot of things. Thank you soooo much!!!!!

I didn’t realize you were building an island until the very end.
I totally love your island.
thanks so much!!
Really helpful video and I want to try it in my kitchen as I’m planning to do some renovations. Did you secure the island with the floor or the weight of the island will just hold it in a permanent position? Thanks.
Awesome I'm glad you got inspired! I did, I just used two little L brackets. The island is so large it's hard to move but these work great to keep it 100% secured.
@@dcwoodworks can we see a picture of it? Of how you secured it please.
Very nice..great job
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice! I might have missed it because I watched the video with no sound, but will the island be held down or is it movable once finished? It turned out so beautiful! 😊
This one will be held down because I am putting the dishwasher in between both cabinets but if you just build an island with no appliances, it can move like furniture :)
Great question
So what did you secure it with
@@najeemuhammad6957 L brackets
yes i want for my rental property so that when tenants annoyed and vacating -they can take it to new place or drop near some trash
Not going to lie. Came here for the thumbnail but will have to say nice work and editing as the video was well informative and not long at all...👍🏾
glad you could learn something!
First awesome job and second what type of adhesive did you use for the top and the MDF molding. Thanks
Thanks so much! I used Lepage PL Premium but any construction grade adhesive will work.
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
My only concert is that I never saw the two base cabinets being attached to the floor since they can be going sideways when someone tall or heavy leaned over the edges or by the overhang part of the island bu it looks good 👍🏻
I actually attached it at the end but I just didn't video that part.
@@dcwoodworks How did you attach it
How did you attach it?
Such a great and frugal idea, congratulations!!!
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it :)
Awesome!! How did you attach the cabinets to the floor?
Thanks! I used L brackets.
Good lawd, just awesome. I wana build one now and I don’t even have a kitchen😬🤣

Thank you from Csnada🇨🇦👍
awesome! fellow Canadian! glad you enjoyed it
Did you ever drill the cabinets to the floor? Does it move if it’s not drilled in?
I did! I attached them with some L brackets.
Looks good. Island too.
It does!
I would like to thank for creating this helpful and budget friendly video. I'm impressed with your work! May I know the all the measurements, please.

its 30 inches high and 48 inches long.
Damn girl you’re amazing
Thanks so much! Have you seen my newest video?
ua-cam.com/video/VMNnKXMK5FA/v-deo.html
You're going to have to install an outlet in that island. All permanent islands must have an outlet receptacle according to building code. Should be okay if you arent selling the house soon
Not true.
I already sold it. And that’s not the case here in Nova Scotia Building Code
Talented asf!!..and DAYUM!! Girl!! 😍
Great job!!!
This looks amazing! I was curious though, how’s you secure the blocks onto the cabinets? I was wondering if you used nails or glue? I seen where you used glue to secure them both together but didn’t catch the part where you secure the counter top on to the cabinets
It’s very important to allow the wood to move freely. Since she didn’t answer the question, She probably didn’t cover this because she didn’t know how to do it. Sadly. This is something that shoujd have been covered absolutely. I actually have a discussion on this type of countertop and I go over how to secure it. Feel free to watch it.
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore what’s the link!! I’d definitely check it out!
@@tmac9607 check it out. If you are wanting to get a butcher block countertop, watch how I cut it and prep it for staining. They are heavy and hard so you need to know how to deal with them. In the description I talk about the fastening also. ua-cam.com/video/_86xawxR8LY/v-deo.html. Maybe you’ll like my channel. Let me know what you think. If you have questions.
I actually used L brackets to attach the wood to the cabinets. inside where the dishwasher goes so you dont see them.
OMGGGG 😳‼️.. I loveeeee it..you made it look sooo simple...thank you ❣

@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore WOW.....are you finessing people for subs under someone else's video? MAYBE she has hundreds if not thousands of comments which makes it hard to answer everyone while weeding out the ones sexual in nature.
@@eriktyson7696 Erik it’s too bad that you think I’m trying to finesse people to my channel. Sadly this is why I was hesitant to answer the question. If I try to help then it’s because I want viewers not because I what to advise. I wouldn’t have said anything but it’s the only question she didn’t answer. If you see carefully. Out of all the questions other than comments based on her being a girl, it wasn’t answered. And you know what, my comment helped several people. All were so grateful that I helped them. If my helping them makes them want to learn from my channel the correct way to build cabinetry and woodwork then that’s just a bonus for everyone. Don’t you think. This is a huge platform, people like me are putting meaningful content out to the world, and trying to help should be able to answer questions on anywhere without people like you insinuating it’s to get subs. Ridiculous
@@davidbryanwoodworksandmore thats exactly what I'm saying "you want viewers ". Coming to another UA-cam page that does the say thing as you and trying to lure them to your page for Subs is shady in my opinion. Let them find you. You say that you were hesitant, yet I only decided to say something after noticing you do the same exact thing several times. The only question she didn't answer? That's RIDICULOUS, so please stop. Those same questions were already asked by other viewers and answered by her. If it was jusy about answering the questions, you would have told how you would have done it minus criticizing hurt work and kept it moving. But no, you plugged your channel and discredited her work. If thats your thing its cool, but don't be mad because I called you out on it.
@@eriktyson7696 i did answer the question. Allow it to move freely. That’s the answer. If you want more, check out a video. She hadn’t answered the question from anyone on this subject. So I tried to help.
