Love this! We are repairing and getting new countertop for our kitchen counter but hoping to get an island soon. We purchased a used large base cabinet on wheels that needs completely redone, it has been on our porch for a few years but hopefully get to rehab it soon.

These garbage cans are nice. I've found two issues with mine.
When you install a baby latch it's a PITA getting the front bag out.
When your fingers slip off the hand groove, your nails catch and scratch the finish.
Both me issues, and I'm still very glad the home came with this.

Very nice , I wont use the MDF at all. our last island the stuff swelled due to washing the floor or any moisture. staying with wood trim and wall board .

I LOVE this! I want to build my own island and this was extremely helpful! We will need to buy the cabinets and the quartz top as well, but what do you estimate you spent on the island materials that you didn’t have?

When loading anything 4’x8’, I always use one of the flat carts much easier to in the store than loading into truck or van.

would have probably just gotten at home depot why get stuff and having to return it and getting stuff and having to return it if I can if I can if I'm already there and I can see it I know the exact size I am so impressed with all the kitchen so inspiring looks amazing love that your kids have actually done it too that's been the best part of watching so awesome

This is beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I'm working on a kitchen update and trying to do the island ourselves. i LOVE how this turned out. Question, if you see this, what size cabinet is the trash pull out one? I want to make sure I have a base that is wide enough.
Thank you! My cabinet is 21" wide and its very roomy. The actual trash assembly is 13.5" and the widest part of the trash can for the is 14."5 so as long as your opening is slightly wider than that (I think they recommend at least a 15" opening) you should be ok!

Hi. I really enjoyed watching your video and learned a lot. Your island looks fantastic!!! We're planning a kitchen reno using three of our base cabinets for an island with an overhang like you did. I noticed you added a 2 x 4 to extend your initial overhang. Can you tell me how much of an overhang you ended up with? Thanks!!!
It's about 10-11 inches then the counter top has a 2" over hang. We did add more because there was a miscommunication on how much of an overhang I wanted haha! I was aiming for around a 12" over hang total. The total counter top width is 38" (there is a 2" over hang on each side).
🤣 cute. next time, just move the trolley down the aisle a bit, pull the sheet off and stand on edge. the trolley is there, just slip it in the middle😉

Hi. I just wanna let you know that you did an awesome job on your island table. Its really nice and I like it. My wife and i been wanting to make one but don't really know where to get the cabinets. Only place i know is homedepot and lowes. Any advice of specific place to get the cabinets? But the butcher block i will get it at home decor. Pls need your help. Thanks
Thank you! When we first were looking at re doing our kitchen we were going to get a quote from the Lowe's custom cabinets. It was the diamond brand kitchen cabinets as they looked like good quality and affordable. We ended up repainting the existing cabinets which saved us money. If you have a Menards near you they also have some great options. We re did a kitchen years ago using their custom cabinets and it was affordable and great quality.

Thanks! Yes we did get new countertops since we reconfigured the kitchen. It was laminate and an ivory color. The new one is quarts!

This is beautiful. So my question is basically used cabinets that had or did u have to purchase new cabinets. Im asking because i doing my kitchen over and trying to save money. 😊😊
Thank you! Yes I re used all our old cabinets and it saved to much money! Check out the links in the description box! I showed how I painted the rest of the cabinets and you can see the process.
What did you add as the island top?
When did you do the counter? When you were painting the old counter was laying on, and when the trash can shelf was put in the counter was new.
We did the counter after I was done painting. The cabinets had to be in place so they could measure for the counter. The trash was the very last thing I did a while after the counter was put in. I did a video of painting the cabinets and another video of the countertop.
What type of counter top did you use for the island?
Just curious how is the island holding up since you used mdf? Read reviews that these mdf boards warp and swell when moisture hits them...like when mopping did you experience that with this material?
We haven't had any issues so far. All the edges are caulked so no water should get down in there. The bottom edge around the floor can also be caulked to keep water out if something is spilled to prevent water from going under but we haven't done that yet. I have a floor vacuum mop that doesn't put out tons of water so no issues so far. The paint I used is cabinet paint and has done a great job "sealing" it and keeping out moisture.

What size cabinets do you have for the trash can?
I just watched your video. I Love, love, love your island. I was looking to add one in my open floor kitchen. If I may ask, was it cheaper doing it yourself then purchasing one already done just install. I’m on a budget and I can’t afford to spend a lot.

Thank you! We had a peninsula and the cabinets were in really good condition so we just painted them and placed them as the island. It saved us a lot of money!
I’m looking to redo my cabinets again too. I used rustoleum paint (very dark Java) 5 years ago on my honey oak cabinets. Now I want to brighten up my kitchen and I was wandering what’s the name brand paint and color you used for your island?

@@gloriag1381 I used Benjamin Moore Advance paint. The color was Chantily lace and the sheen is satin. I did a whole cabinet painting video a while back and you can see all the steps how I did it.

Fantastic makeover. I have a question, after installing the frame that extends out of the kitchen sides, why did you add another 2 x 4? I think addind the real shiplap could be done to the front of the frame, correct?
There was a miscommunication on how long I wanted to extend the island so we actually made the frame bigger so it looks like there is another 2x4 on there. We nailed one side up and I realized it needed to be longer. So we built a longer frame. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you! I love our floor so much! It's LVP and the brand is Mohawk. I can't remember the color though 🤔 You can search for a Mohawk dealer in your area. They are a pretty popular flooring.

Can you share the dimensions of your cabinet and then what the overall dimensions of the new finished island is?
The cabinet dimensions are 66" wide (one cabinet is 45" and the trash cabinet is 21") and the finished width is 67 and the depth is 34" and the countertop has a 2" overhang on all sides. Hope that helps!
