What Nobody Tells You About Pitching Onto The Green

  • Hitting good mid-distance wedge shots is an issue for so many golfers,
    It’s not a “small, big swing”, nor is it a “big, small swing”. This shot is truly a special shot which require a unique set-up and execution. Get it right, and your scores will tumble, get it wrong, and your perpetual frustration (and high scores) will continue.
    You can learn how to execute the 30-80 yard pitch shot with relative ease once you know how to make the necessary set-up and swing adjustments which I will share with you in this video including:
    * What club to use
    * How far to stand from the ball
    * Where to position the ball
    * What length swing to take
    * Wrists or no wrists?
    * How to be consistent

    Great video. I have been trying to figure out the best way to get control over my low point. A few things you said caught my attention that I tired while I was watching you and I look forward to trying tomorrow at the range or in my backyard. The comment that caught my attention was when you described that we want a mixture of elements followed by something about coming up. I latched onto the idea of coming around to the left. Thanks. Can;t wait to try it out tomorrow

    I've been using your swing hard stop quick motion for a while and it works really well for me. As you mention, in reality it is difficult to stop your arms travelling a little further than you would like and i usually end up with arms parrallel. For chipping these distances i still use your thought of stopping quick, but rather than stopping the arms around 45 degrees i think about stopping them at the ball. So i'm still swinging with effort and accelerating into the ball but now my arms stop effectively at around 45 dgerees.

    Good information, reminds me of a Dave Pell class I attended 25 years ago. Which changed my short game forever. I still use the “Pelz” methods today for pitching. I am dialed in from 30-110 yards by using his technique of the 7:30, 9:00 and 10:30 swing using a 64,58,54,48 degrees wedges. Four wedges, three lengths equals 12 guaranteed distances. And honestly from there I’ve learned over the years to adjust the face and follow thru to land just about any distance in between.

    • @markhaliwell9037
      @markhaliwell9037 11 місяців тому

      Having read and watched Pelz, and now your video I'd like one tiny but hugely important clarification. And I know this is as basic as basic can get but I can see the lines on your mat are not relevant to this pitching technique but they distract my focus. So many videos talk about ball,position as an inch forward or an in the back in the stance and then have their feet pointing in different directions making me wonder where 'middle of the stance' actually is. Pelz definitely says between the heels and then will talk about turning left foot forward a little. That then alters the perspective of 'middle of the stance' Please confirm that, irrespective of where your toes are pointing, middle of the stance is half way and perpendicular to,a line drawn between the heels.

    Really good demonstration of pitching - very clear. There were three definite changes in swing/tempo for 30, 50 and 80yds. Question - for distances in between, do I need to develop a kind of interpolation between these swings - how does the transition from 30yds to 40 yds and 50 to 60 yds look etc.

    I can attest to the accuracy of this video, every time I play a Tournament. The short game is THE key element of all these guys. GIRs is more important than FW hit. Knowing you have the short game to get the putter in your hands quicker, is how you stay in contention. of course, you'll always have those days where it fails you..we are human even if we think differently.

    Great video! With pitching, my golf balls tend to stay short and stop before the flag, as I am unconsciously afraid of surpassing it and end into a bunker, trees or water, that usually surround the greens. It is a matter of finesse and requires confidence and a lot of practice in the course. To overcome that I tend to play with a less lofted club.

But 40-45yrds I change to my chipping swing with my 50 widge. What change is my width of my stance. Three club head width is 40-45yrds...two club head width 35-35yrds same swing....one club head width 30-35yrds......narrow 25-30yrds ALL same swing
