I watched the entire video. This is a tremendous amount of instruction for a 100 yard shot. I imagine there are people that gravitate to this kind of level of detail for teaching.
This isn't even scratching the surface, this is literally just figuring out what club goes 100 yards. After you do that, it's all down to the player and how much information they want to think about or forget😊

Just get your Approach Wedge and make a full swing to the middle of the green. It comes down to “can you swing a club without a bunch of thinking” then you’ll hit the green every time.

This is an incredible video to reference when practicing shots for different yardages. Is there anywhere where we can see the 3 data points for 50,60,70,80,90,100 etc shots by any chance? Thanks for sharing!
Great question and I don't have the direct answer. Another way of thinking about it is the Pelz method, where you hone the 7:30, 9:00 and 10:30 swings (the position of your back arm on the clock face at maximum backswing) so they are absolutely repeatable. Then grab your wedges and systematically measure each one with each of the 3 swings (plus the full swing). I have 4 wedges so that gives me 4 x 4 known and repeatable distances. Made a huge difference to my handicap when I first did this. Fun to do and my son and I often head out with our wedges, a bucket of balls and the rangefinder to update our wedge gapping. Hope this is helpful!
Mr Pelz's system says that a 7:30 swing should go 50% of full, 9:00 swing should be 75% of full, and 10:30 swing should go 90% of full.

Great video. I'm trying to get my wedges dialed in with a launch monitor off mats. I think it would be better off grass with premium balls. The question I have is about consistency. There's launch angle, clubhead speed, and sweet spot contact variance. How do we rank these in order of importance for best consistency?

I was fitted and have a wedge that is my stock 100 yd shot and often hit this shot with very dispersion. I need to work on those in between shots
Great video. I'm a 7. I think my wedge game is my strong suit. I keep it simple. A half swing (left arm parallel) at 90% power is very consistent for me. PW = 100, Gap = 80, S = 60, and a 60degree = 40 yards. I groove this swing on the range and it rarely fails me. I would like to hear from other golfers and what their "system" is. It really works for me at in between yardages like 90 yards. Depending on the pin and would I rather error long or short (short sided pin or carry a bunker or wind) I club accordingly up or down for the 90 yrd shot.
I like your system. Do you use one swing speed for all wedges? What is your swing speed and how do you know when you have good enough consistency to take it to the golf course? thanks
@@KenHollowayshow Yes. One swing speed. 90% of max. It's firm and controlled. I'll hit full buckets of just the 100 yard shot. It's not difficult to replicate. Same swing, 4 different clubs and 4 different yardages. It's very consistent and reliable for me. When I'm off, it's usually when I try to get 5-10 more yards out of it. I always come back to that 90% swing and everything falls into place again. Once I start swinging harder or softer than that stock shot is when I start going way long or short.

@@tommytinajero2778 Dude, you have no idea how much this has changed my golf life. I've turned my greatest weakness into my strength. At the range, I no longer pound 7 irons, I hit full buckets of my 100 yard shot. It translates to the course. I now have 5-10 birdie putts within 15 feet each round. My next step is to learn to drain putts, which I cannot do for the life of me. So goes the journey. Good luck.

What about presenting the club makers loft on the ball instead of turning a standard wedge into a 9 or even an 8 iron? Old school thinking I know but effective and consistent for those that do it.

Many golfers at my club make poor contact on these shots simply because they see and are told on you tube that a 56 or 54 deg goes 100 y (92m) so they try and thrash the shxt out of those clubs to get there.
If took a P or gentle 9 would get better outcome for 90 % of club golfers
Love this video. Question I would have for Cameron. Should we be targeting around the 30 degrees of dynamic loft with all wedges? 50-54 and 60?
I was told as a rule of thumb, your launch angle should be around half the loft of your stated club e.g. 54 wedge = 27 degrees launch angle. This just applies to irons and wedges though

I'm standard 3/4 swing with my wedges. Get PW 46 deg 110yds, 52 deg 100yds, 54 deg 90yds and 60 deg 75yds.

so I apparently have the same dynamic loft issue Tom has and now have to try this drill. My 7 iron goes anywhere from 150-190 lol
If it varies that much, you also have a contact issue. 190 is the dead middle of the face and 150 is nowhere near that. This is often amplified by the hollow irons (Titleist T200, TM P790, Mizuno pro 225, etc) which dead-center strike can give you a much longer distance.

Good lesson. I would have liked to see the student soften the wrists and hands and slow the backswing down a tad. Introduce a little more lag. I'm betting his 54* can be his 100 yarder with those changes. But great, succinct instruction from the Aussie.
The lesson is great. Most of us don't have ranges with real grass anymore. Any ideas for training off hitting mats? Thanks
One way could be to use street chalk (the one that the kids use) and paint around the ball. another method is to buy the quite expensive divot board. but I dont do either of these two, I hit foam balls in my garden, that way I can still see where my club bottoms out.
Just find a field and be willing to pick your own balls up 🤷🏻♂️ it’s what I’ve done, I’ve binned the range with the Matt’s, it’s false in regards to what you do on the course.
Great instruction but there are two issues that I have.
#1. This is all good when you have a beautiful flat lie as we see in the video. How many flat lies do we see like this out on the golf course? or in a the course of 18 holes. We know when faced with different lies will create different club selection and different set up positions.
#2. Extremely technical. Where’s the creativity? What if I’m a feel player? Is this good for a one plane swinger who has a more shallow sweeping club thru impact? Phil M teaches that at times he wants to feel like he is playing a bunker shot and striking the ground a little behind the ball to get the ball to roll up the club face and catch all the grooves.

Most people over estimate their club distance. I have seen it over and over my buddies came up short but somehow they insist their 60 can go 100.
Mr. Smith ive been doing this for just over a year now with great results , was told years back that i was delofting the club and stopped ( wish i didnt ) works great from wedges up to my 7 iron but not much success with 6i and 5i why is that also hit down on my fw woods carry two 5 woods one steel and one graphite 165 and 185 and a 3w 200

It seems like more and more teachers are getting a way from this manipulation and holding on to get shaft lean or more dynamic loft. Do certain things and it happens naturally, according to the laws of physics, yes?

I feel like the drills in this video are pretty bad. Most people would struggle to even set up the tees and alignment sticks properly let alone know wtf any of it means if they were out on the range by themselves. The instructor might be good in person, helping people that already have a fairly decent understanding of the concepts, but for the average joe, this instruction is kinda bad. Most of us don't have access to Trackman while we're practicing, so I'm not sure how we could get the kind of feedback that this guy calls for.
If you don't have the ability to put 2 sticks down slightly larger than the width of a club head. You have much bigger issues. That is a really basic drill. If you hit the sticks your swinging inconsistently.
