    Nice diagnosis Maic. These 2nd gen MINI's with the N14 are notorious for issues. They got better with the N18 motors starting in 2011.

      BuddysAdventures yes this have a lot of problems. Even though the N18 has the oil pump big failure! Well no perfect car!

    That is a great diagnosis video and tool. I have the snap on and yes the resolution on snap on isn’t that great. But I do own the first version snap on bore scope. That is a great tool. Will have to get one of those scopes. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽. Muchas gracias por los videos

    Damn that was pretty cool,as i'm having a challenge to repair my lady friend Mini,so for now with the help of your video.I've gained more confidence of how am i going to attend to that similar misfire engine fault,but on hers it only misfire on #cylnd 3...we've tried to replace ignition coil and spark plugs nothing seems to work.
    Thanks a Million ,You made my job way too less time consuming.Johnny K....from South Africa.Ta!

    The N14 engine, the gift that keeps on giving, from timing chain failures to burnt valves to failed fuel pumps to turbos giving up in a bad way... gift. that. keeps. giving.

    • @Philobert
      @Philobert 3 роки тому +1

      I had coal rests on the valve letting it not close completely. Burnt it off and had ro exchange the head. Cost me about 4k. 15000km later the pistons and cylinders showed cracking with bad compression. Then I sold that piece of crap.

      I've had my R56 with the infamous N-14 that I bought brand new for ten years and about to roll 125k miles. In the history of engines, this has to be the worst ever created. Replaced the engine, turbo, timing chain, water pump (twice), low pressure fuel pump, cracked valve cover. After each major repair I convince myself that it will be the last, and the car will be reliable and trouble free. Wrong. I've paid thousands doing all of the recommended maintenance to ensure it's success. It's at the shop right now with a check engine light. Code says its the mass air flow sensor. Mechanic replaced MAF and the CEL returned showing misfires on cylinder 123. Recommends new coils and plugs even though they're only 2 years old. Sorry for the rant, but your comment struck a nerve. I love that car. It's like having an abusive wife that you can't leave. MINI should be ashamed for allowing this POS into production.

    Hi Mr. Salazar, , great video!! I'm watching because I had a misfire on my 2015 Mini R60. It has been in the shop for "8" days and the mechanic still isn't sure what is wrong with it. He said he checked plugs, compression, coils, injectors and it's still misfiring. He now wants to try replacing the DME at $1,900.00. I'm freaking out! What should I do??

    • @MaicSalazarDiagnostics
      @MaicSalazarDiagnostics  3 роки тому +3

      P M well it is hard sometimes. I will tell him that if DME doesn’t fix the issue; I’ll not pay for it.

    Can I ask what repair was, new valve? And Cost? Have same car in garage right now with cold start issue after changing plugs/leads due to misfire. Drives ok but poor idle when cold start. Takes 3 attempts to get it to hold idle

    • @robinhosleftfoot
      @robinhosleftfoot 3 роки тому

      Had same issue on my 2007 Cooper S recently. Changed plugs/leads and still had cold start issue. High Pressure Fuel Pump changed too. Sorted now, drives better than ever. MINI's are renowned for Fuel Pump issues as second time replaced now.

    When a valve chips like that, the motor will lose all it's power to the point where it is very difficult to accelerate to get up to speed as it completly limps. The sound is like backfiring and misfiring. The motor will start and will run, it got me home from 150 miles away, it happened to me in the middle of the fuckin CA desert on I-15 at 9PM Friday night, just my luck! The motor will emit a sulfur odor. This is most likely this is the exhaust valve. I know all the details, because it happened to me 5 months ago. I had 146,000 miles. I have rebuilt my entire motor since, I stroked it and brought the displacement to 1.8 liter. ProTip#1: Check for oily coil connectors and clean them, spray brake cleaner in there and compressed air, repeat until oil is removed, this fixed my misfires. Purchase new coils for $25 each, those are regular Delphi coils. OEM is expensive so stay away but they are exactly the same. Replace your plugs too. ProTip#2: Wrap zip ties around the coil latches to secure them because the vibrations will work them loose. I have the exact same model R56 in this video, color, white stripping too, even the roof rack!

    If you have a cracked piston like this will that cause a compression issue when compression tested? I have a coooer s 2009 model with mid fire on cylinder 3. Changed plugs and coils. Compression test all good. Rough idle and loss of power at lower revs. Any ideas. Cheers

    • @MaicSalazarDiagnostics
      @MaicSalazarDiagnostics  3 місяці тому

      What did you use to check compression? Try to do a leak test to see if valves are sealing.

    • @MaicSalazarDiagnostics
      @MaicSalazarDiagnostics  3 місяці тому

      Cracked piston will definitely show low compression. But that is not common on this engine. Maybe you mean a burnt valve?

    The clean piston top can also be due to an internal coolant leak. I think that Im going to get rid of my reliable honda and buy one of these fine quality German vehicles.

    Hi there need help !!!!! 2009 Mini Cooper clubman I just did new Ignition coil’s new spark plugs oil change oil filter air filter and it idols gravy for about 10 to 15 minutes then it starts Shaking and then it says on the scanner that it’s cylinder misfire one but I already had put in new parts Can you pls help ????

    • @MaicSalazarDiagnostics
      @MaicSalazarDiagnostics  4 роки тому +1

      xavier cruz the quick test you can do is swap the coil and plug from Cyl 1 to another and viceversa to see if code moves to other cylinder. If doesn’t then you might have a bad injector or something else!

    • @xaviercruz5328
      @xaviercruz5328 4 роки тому +2

      Maic Salazar Diagnostics this what my scanner is giving me ,2773 combustion misfire cylinder 1 ,2772 combustion misfire cylinder 1 ,2771 combustion misfire cylinder 1 , 273D ignition coil cylinder 1 ignition - circuit monitoring. I’m getting this after I put all new stuff four brand new ignition coils for Barry new Bosch spark plugs Brian new cane and filter .... I am stumped and I don’t know where to go from here the car runs and drives great but when it comes to idle it start shaking sometimes it doesn’t and sometimes it does

    • @MaicSalazarDiagnostics
      @MaicSalazarDiagnostics  4 роки тому +1

      xavier cruz just double check what you did, make sure all coil connections are fully push in and if all good swap the coils. New doesn’t mean can’t be a bad or defective part!

    Truth, I have a mini cooper 1978, and it has well over 250,000 miles. Good maintenance, oil, all. However in USA the mini are have smog devices and it runs hot! and along with USA bad gasoline! no matter if its techtron or 76, they will burn out your spark plugs! Also since 1987 bad gas with moisture is to blame from Fuel injectors (Turbo) to cylinder with carbon! Its safe to say if you can find a good hones mechanic and priced well especially during WW3 then its not bad, as blowing up your engine! I say that because most of the mini population of today are girls! I say that because I am one of those! yup, took it to a mechanic of well know area, and zap! The manager said, sorry we cant fix it! its just better you sell your car! luck u get $3,000 for it. I said ok... and just shook my head knowing that 2021 was the year to SELL your car! as used cars were the all time deal to make! I DON'T THINK SO TIM! I FIXED MY CAR myself, had to buy tools all over again because I;M A OLD GAL! but i did it! AGAIN SAD THAT SWINDLING THE CUSTOMER IS STILL IN FASHION! In California, where RIP OFFS started in the mid 80s like wild fire! so check online, FOUND THIS GENTLEMAN, at least he showed you what they do! DON'T GET RID OF YOUR OLD CAR, IT TOOK YOU THIS FAR! just needs REPAIR!
