What i love about this channel is just a stand up genuine guy, no ego, no bull, just straight forward step by step easy to follow diagnostics, keep up the good work! :-)
I am a retired mechanic that used to specialise in engine systems and diagnostics. I used to use a big workshop machine that included a scope and exhaust gas analyser. So I unsderstand well your scope readouts. Being able to use a scope is so useful. Even checking wheel speed sensors on ABS becomes possible. What I was particularly interested in was your nice handy little scope. Love it. I want to get one. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Excellent tutorial. Methodical and explained in layman’s terms. I don’t even own a Mini, but I watched the complete video simply because it was interesting. Keep up the good work, mate 🇦🇺🦘
This video came at the best time ever to help me diagnose my car. Bad wiring was the cause, but if it wasn’t for the methodology room this video, I’d be buying and replacing motors and panels, etc wasting ten times more than what I’d actually need .subscribed!,
OMG!! Thank you brotha!!! I've had these same issues for weeks now. I tested that same relay some weeks back with a relay tester and it tested good. After watching your video I noticed my RPM needle was not moving when I cranked the car. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor months ago but I decided to test it and it tested good. I tested the connector and it tested good. Instead of testing the relay again I decided to switch it with the one for the windshield wiper (same part number) and the damn thing fired right up! Thank you for the thorough explanation sir!
Great explanation, this helped me fix a non- start issue with my R56 Cooper S turbo that would cut-out after 10-20 minutes driving then work perfectly again after 5 minutes of not starting. Car did not splutter to a stop so after replacing the glhightnoressure fuel pump and fuel filter I found this video and located the faulty fuel injector relay. My relay was Not exactly in the same location as in this video, mine was behind the ECU attached is a separate box on the fire wall. Otherwise identical to this explanation THANK YOU for posting this video.
This is the exact problem my Mini has it cranks without starting ,I have taken it yo so many different machenics bought so many car parts, they told me to buy the new conputer box I did but the car didn't start,They asked me to buy a new engine but now after seeing this video it has helped me to find the problem thank u so much sir
You are awesome! This explains it in simple terms. You have an excellent understanding of the subject, therefore you can explain it well. Thanks so much
We understand that running a business is crazy. And we all ask for more videos like this in a selfish way unconsciously. But bro u got it. I just wanted to commend and thank you. Keep doing what you do. 🙏👊🏽
Amazing! You are such a great troubleshooter. Wish you were closer to NY. New subscriber and DIY'r, and I'm learning so much from you and how easy you explain the process. Thank you!
Dude, THANK YOU!!! Did the timing chain on my 07 Mini with a N12 due to an unsolved P0013 issue. Ran for roughly 60 seconds, then died and wouldn't start. I thought I had just written off the motor. I had fuel, spark, air, and compression and it was almost like it wanted to start but would always sputter out. Checked every single fuse on the car. Tested fuel pressure, fuel pump, voltages, got a code for Footwell module on my Schwaben tool. Started ripping my hair out replacing fuel filter, vacuum pump, etc. Nothing worked. I watched this video and swapped the relay for the windshield wiper relay and the car fired right up. Thank you so much for this video.
Awesome video bro ! I usually just start switch the spark plugs or I just check fuses or lays but really helpful advice thank you! Keep up the good work
Great Vid!! Wish all mechanics were as diligent and knowledgeable as you. Took my Mini to the STEALERship and they did all the free maintenance they could do, but sent me home with the same issue that showed up less than a week later. Just cuz it's warrantied am I going back.
Tenía 1 día completo chequeando un mini que compre en copart solo tarde viendo este video cambie el relay y ya prendio, Gracias mi pana por tu tiempo 🎉😅
Glad I found this video. My mother in law’s car sometimes it start and sometimes it doesn’t. I thought it may be the starter but will check that relay. Thanks
Well explained Eric and great job. Wasn't familiar with these 3 wire coils that actually work as 2 wire ones. Something to keep in mind. Thanks for sharing 👍
Hey have you figured your issue out? I'm having the same issue in my 2012 cooper S. Cranks but also won't start after sitting in the garage for a month during winter
Excellent video, but I'd like to add something for the benefit of those of us who can't afford to spend big money on equipment. In this case a $20 VOM would show that the relay is defective. Just connect the meter across the contacts and crank the engine. Even though the voltage is pulsing, the meter would indicate something far more than the mV's you'd expect from a good relay conducting current. Try AC and DC to see which works best. Please keep the videos coming.
I had this exact same issue with my 2018 Volvo S90. I literally couldn't sleep while it was sitting in the shop because I didn't know if it was gonna be a $200 or a $2,000 fix. Luckily for me, it was around $189. Knowing a good and honest mechanic is a must.
Great step by step to resolve the problem. My 2007 mini s has been in the shop for 3 weeks now and I believe that is the problem on it as well. Can you please tell them what needs to be done, lol
eres chingon neta, gracias por el tiempo que tomas para hacer tus videos, great video you are one the best that i have seen, mucha vibra para ti. god bless you,
Good one bro and great advice too. I also use the power probe 3 and never really wanted to upgrade to the 4 it’s a great tool but you do have be careful with it. Good job 👍🏻
Awesome/Brilliant video and information simple but really excellent to learn what else should i say bravo and bravo and really enjoyable to watch thank you for sharing cheeeeers.
Get really good with the snap on scope and then upgrade. I love my Pico but I'm always grabbing my single channel uscope for quick diagnosis. The Pico is so much better than the snap on as far as what all it will do and how much easier it is to play with a capture once you have one that it makes the snap on look pretty bad. I still grab the old modis we have from time to time but it's the last one I grab.
Excellent video ask I agree with him going through all that junk is knowledge especially for DYI like ME Thank fillet for UA-cam and all of their knowledge and good mechanics
Thank you Eric. Good job. Car battery seemed weak. I'd be curious if the battery voltage was dropping below 9V during cranking. We see the voltage to the coils was dropping to 8V in the video. Stay dry and have a blessed and safe week.
What's up bro I like the video I just purchased my first mini cooper 2003 the next day the horn went out the following day I drove a couple places the last stop before Home I got back in to start it and it sounds like the video
What i love about this channel is just a stand up genuine guy, no ego, no bull, just straight forward step by step easy to follow diagnostics, keep up the good work! :-)
Thank you!
yeah, your right this guy is down to earth.
This is the clearest explanation with step by step and how to use the tools needed to diagnose. Thanks man, great content!👍
Dude you don't need to fix cars anymore. Your a great teacher & could make a living doing that. Thanks for making this

Maaaaaan…. An unmarked hidden relay being the darn subject of a full blown investigation… you’re good man ! Very good…..

New subscriber. Great explanation of the secondary ignition waveform and really good video! Thanks!
I'm hoping this also applies to my 2009 Cooper S. Your explanation was a LOT clearer than another video I found here on YT. Thank you!
Was that the case???

Great case study! I have to admit that once I got to the relay I would've swapped one of the other 2 to see if it starts. 😁
Exactly what I was thinking lol but he's done it the right way
Ok question I see one is light green and the other is black are they the same?
