    Great video....thanks! I just diagnosed a bad ignition coil on my Mini's #4 cylinder in less than 5 minutes.

    Great video! I had P0302 error code indicating misfire in #2 cylinder. I swapped the ignition coil pack with the #3 cylinder and now the code switched to #3 cylinder. Ignition coil pack was the problem. New Duralast C1638 from Autozone (opened till 9 PM!) and I was back in business!!!!!

    THANK YOU!! You broke this down simply for me. Saved me hundreds of dollars. I had P0300, P0303, and P0304 on mine. Ended up replacing the coils in cylinders 3 and 4 to solve the problem. Was an immediate change in how the car run and the codes didn't come back after clearing. Now to clear that pesky CEL!

      late reply, but hopefully help the next guy on mini coopers...Get a socket wrench head that will fit super tight in the ignition coil plug (With the pins, just be careful), then you will want to get a large wrench and flip it upside down and place the tip under the rubber tab and plastic that is supported by the socket wrench head. Just pry it up with the roundness of the large wrench upwards and then you will eventually be able to pop it out. The only way I was able to do it without damaging them, or breaking the plastics.

    My all four ignition coils work, but cylinder 3 is still misfiring. What are the possible causes? Could it be the wire attaching to the coil? Please help!

    • @paulkelley86
      @paulkelley86  3 роки тому

      You could pull the coil and lay it on the valve cover with it connected to see if it sparks. If it doesn't spark yes it could be the wiring from the ECU.
      If it does spark, the misfire could be caused by a problem with that cylinder injector or with loss of compression in that cylinder.

    Hey Paul , I recently replaced the thermostat housing as well and had to disconnect all coil wires and now I’m having a misfire in cylinder 1 now. I replaced the coil but even switched coils to different cylinders but cylinder 1 still isn’t functioning properly.. what should I do ?

    • @paulkelley86
      @paulkelley86  8 місяців тому +1

      You need to troubleshoot cylinder 1. Spark test, injector test, compression test. It has to be missing one. But this isn't something I can give you step by steps on, although I have compression test videos and there are videos on each of these all over UA-cam. Get results and I can provide some guidance.

    Why pull the coil instead of unplugging it? does it matter? having similar issues

    • @paulkelley86
      @paulkelley86  Рік тому

      Unplugging is just as good, but will set additional codes which is also no problem, just clear them.

      Right, you are seeing if the code moves following the coils. You need a scanner to check dtc

    • @paulkelley86

      @@ivannava1352 I get ya. This way is only good when it is misfiring at that moment. Or sometimes if you get a coil circuit code.
      If the misfire is intermittent not so helpful

      More than likely will damage get catalytic converter due to raw fuel being pumped into the exhaust.

    Why pull the whole coil. Just pull the harness from each coil.

    • @paulkelley86
      @paulkelley86  2 роки тому +2

      You can disconnect it true, but it will likely set codes for primary coil circuit open. And if you are going to swap, you will need it to be unbolted and the connector removed so either way.
      Personally I find it easier to pull the coil and l can also hear the secondary spark occurring down in the tube if the could is in fact firing.
      Personal preference.

    I’ve replaced the coils, still can’t get the cel to go away

    • @paulkelley86
      @paulkelley86  3 роки тому +1

      Because it is misfiring. Which isn't necessarily caused by coils, or even lack of spark. It could be a fuel or compression problem.
      Commonly people try to save money by swapping parts, then when it doesn't fix it, they drop it off at a shop to be diagnosed, some of those people are upset about a diagnosis charge, but they don't seem to mind blowing money on unneeded parts.
      Your vehicle really needs to be properly diagnosed, and that is going to take time by an highy knowledgeable technician... who is probably going to want to be paid for his/her time.
      The coil swap cylinder to cylinder is easy DIY, outside of that I don't recommend it being DIY.
