I'd suggest getting the old wood off the ground under the floor . Your inviting pests of all kinds by leaving it. Especially termites!
Also would have been a good idea after cleaning out that debris to lay down a vapor barrier to prevent ground moisture from affecting your floor insulation.
@@SteveMirabelli Yeah, and some concrete on top of the vapor barrier to also reinforce that falling down stacked stone foundation. All that moisure under there is going to rot that new lumber in fairly short order, and never mind all the mold issues you will end up with. Cutting out that rotten piece of beam... I'm sure the termites and/or powder post beetles that damaged that section are still working their magic on the rest of it. I would have cut the whole thing out and treated the timbers that were left with a healthy dose of "Timbor" as well. As far as insulation in that floor, you absolutely do NOT want to use fiberglas! That's an invitation for rodents to set up house, and I guarantee that you WILL have rodents. There are just so many things wrong with how this is being done... but I still like watching them. It's a tutorial on how NOT to do things! LOL!
I second That!
@Wheel_Horse pests are insidious. I am currently replacing a driveway border that is 15 years old where ground contact pressure treated lumber was used with trex plastic composite was overplayed to give a finished look. Taking up the Trex it was surprising to see termites eating not only the PT lumber but they had started on the Trex.
@@SteveMirabelli I've repaired a lot of termite damage in the past 5 decades! In one case I don't know how the building was still standing. When they got done with the sill plate they started up the wall studs to the top plate and then the roof rafters. They ate the cardboard off the drywall as they went up. We didn't repair that one, ended up as a tear down and rebuild. That place was probably about 50 years old.
Seriously good job getting it framed but a few minutes to clean up the debris to avoid making home for termites and more and a vapor barrier would have helped too.
Yes, it was obvious that insects at the crap out of those sections of support beams under the original floor, was it termites?
I thought he mentioned the floor was temporary because he had to put a vapor barrier in. He will have tome the debris then, right?
One of the first things i was taught with any job , is a clean work site will save you time an money ..easier to pick up a few boards then to step on a nail or worse an have to spend half a day waiting at the doc' s to get a shot an a sticker an a big old bill.. i love the vision ,looking good
Yep, it doesn't take that long to pick up or pile the wood, rocks, whatever. At some point someone is going to have to go under the house here and there to inspect, work on a repair or to add or change something. Having rocks, piles of dirt, wood scraps with nails and screws and/or very uneven ground to crawl around on will just make it less easy and unpleasant to do anything. ;)
Check the inside of that piano thoroughly....it was common back in the day to hide cash/coins in the family piano due to the fact that a thief can not easily remove/move such a heavy piece of furniture. Lots of nooks and crannies inside
Yup. My mom used ours as a piggybank all through the 70s
Some of the old piano keys used ebony and pricless ivory . 🙊
@@onemintjulep they do go together in perfect harmony, after all.
@@mundanestuff in unison - "side by side side on my piano keyboard oh lord why don't we "
I'm a weirdo, I would have cleaned the dirt before putting up the boards 😂
No you are not, you are very normal.
samething
I would of also and I’m a 17 year old carpenter
I'm curious why you chose to leave all the debris under the new joists instead of cleaning all of that up and even leveling it so access after the fact would be clean and easy.
A lot of questionable thing this guy does I’m a 17 year old carpenter to
He is just a destroyer and wealthy money waster and time waster lol. He doesn't build nor renovate for a living, just a hobby. He wants to flip this house and sell it for a higher price, so he guts it himself very chaotically lol ---with a buddy to save money on hiring builders and carpenters. But this way he rips the value outta the house, instead of using and preserving all that sturdy expensive timber already in place.
You should remove the waste from under your crawl space 😮
Think he is leaving it there so the weather don't cover it up.
Thank you for committing to filming, editing, and uploading your progress on the cabin!!! I know how much work it is for even just one video. But I (and soooo many countless others) are absolutely loving going on this journey with you and following along!!! Thank you thank you thank you and great work!!!
Thank you for saying that and thank you for watching. I really appreciate it
Ditto, agreed, absolutely...and the actual project work vids rock, the lives, not so much. @99Projects, consider making and posting 25-35 minute videos of the work being done step by step rather than posting hour long or longer videos less often. More frequent, albeit shorter videos will give people more opportunities to watch something on your channel, people like more videos over longer ones, you'll get more views and Subscribers and your channel will grow faster. I have watched a lot of good YT channels begin and grow fast and they followed that basic approach and in less than 3 years they were making good steady income and had several hundred thousand regulars subscribed and watching. ;)
Thanks for posting this it's been fun to watch along.
Max is adorable. We have a 5th old Rottie named Luna that once she gets past "baby valosa raptor" everything a chew toy right?? I believe she will be a great dog she's such a sweetheart. Max seems like a total.love too?
Absolutely fascinated watching you transform this cabin! I can only imagine it adds a lot more time when you have to keep setting up the camera.
I have one question. What is that brick built thing on the wall with the circular pipe sticking out?
@@mattcrooke8321, it looks like the old fireplace chimney leftover after he tore out the old, leaking, falling apart original fireplace...because that's what it is. ;)
Buddy at 9:50 is so adorable 🥺 the best supervisor ever!
Been smart to punch a small ecess into the basement to be able to work under the floor. Leaving debris is plain old dumb because the having to workin on top of that garbage a risk of injury and makes the job harder. Got to add ventalation to the foundation to prevent rot in the future.
Prevent the accident happening in the first place should be your takeaway from this. Keep workplace tidy. Steel soled boots - wear correct personal protective equipment. Fascinating build though. i'm really enjoying this series. Stay safe.
Thank you
Safety is #1, so stop acting like we live in a third world country. We still use the Feudal System, but thats the least of your concern. Safety #1, or attach a medical bill for the construction 😅
was the nail RUSTY AT ALL??? If there is even a chance of it being rusty you NEED TO WORRY ABOUT YOUR TETANUS SHOT!!! If you haven't had one in a while, and you step on a rusty nail you could get LOCKJAW.... I went through this as a kid.... but hadn't even had a tetanus shot... but if it was a new nail that you had recently bought, no biggie... but the nails that were in the house... GOTTA check if it's rusty... if it is, just go to the ER and get a shot, or you Primary should be able to, if you can get in fast enough....
I ain't no expert on this, so if it's something you're worried about, I'd so go onto webMD and look it up for some real advice :) - HOPEFULLY it was only a flesh wound and you didn't knick/chip any bones, or tendons... then you might get some long lasting pains that might never go away.... with my nail/foot situation I STOMPED onto a board trying to separate from a sheet of plywood... nail went right into my heel AND into- the bone.. it was actually kinda thought to pull out!! lol But luckily it just went into the bone but didn't chip it... so I healed fine.. but I went to the ER just because of never having tetanus shot, and I was about 10 so it was 'the worst pain in the world and I was going to die" LMAO - :D
@@mrvirtue2181 Pretty sure he knows what he's doing.
@@vidrysdale7423 I doubt it.
I'm not sure if you check these, and it's probably too late -- but I would recommend moving the staircase to one of the back walls, utilizing the slope of the roof to save space. Could potentially add another bedroom upstairs and free up a lot of space near one of the entries. My dad and I used a similar trick on a house we gutted.
Finally! Been waiting for your next episode.
Why didn't you remove the debris from the crawl space before you closed it up??
This cabin project is probably one of my favorite things to watch on a saturday.
“I think I got some of that in my drink”
Proceeds to drink it. Cracked me up! Also I didn’t realize just how close you were to other people that’s insane! The neighbors are probably so happy someone’s fixing the place up.
Glad to see a progress video. I appreciate that people enjoy the live streams but content to time ratio these videos give much more content! And are more enjoyable
I agree, I just did lives bcuz some people enjoy them. I think far more like the feature films
@@99Projects each style has a place for certain things. Loving the rebuild! Qnd hello from Australia 🇦🇺
@@99Projects, my family, friends, co-workers aren't real crazy about the live streams...they're kind of boring, repetitive and the video gets fuzzy and has glitches often times or it's nighttime so we can't see much. Just letting you know as about a dozen of us feel that way about the livestreams...we won't be watching them, the actual step by step work videos are interesting and entertaining on a whole different level. ;)
Buddy, what do you think? (to the dog) I think cover your expensive equipment if you expect it to work. Get the junk out from under the house- it is a termite magnet.
All I want for Christmas is a mini excavator. Nice to see a new construction video. ❤
I was amazed you put in the floor structure but didn't toss all the trash boards laying on the ground after your demolition when it would have been easy to do.
Doesn’t seem like much of a point. There’s no access to that crawl space, so I won’t be crawling in there after the floor is closed in
with all that mess under the floor, it's ideal conditions for all kinds of creatures
I thought the same. My OCD would’ve gotten the best of me to clean it out but I get his point that it won’t be accessible anyway after the floor is in. 😂
Yup 👍🏼 get all the trash out and we used to put down a moisture barrier
@@romy1708old wood on the ground is a good way to attract carpenter ants
I’ve often romanticized doing such a project with an old house worthy of the effort. However, with the work that has thus far been completed, I can do it vicariously through you. Love the series. ❤
I really enjoy your videos. Max is the star of the show!
He definitely is
Worked on a problem just like this recently actually. Old house I was working in had a beer hoarder living there before her family did a wellness check, found her half alive buried underneath over a yard of beer cans. The excess liquid from the cans overtime leaked through the tile, two layers of subfloor, every joist on half the house, and the main beam softened down a solid 2-3 inches, we’re talking about an early 1900s 12x12. The amount of jacking, leveling, blocking, beam tickling and wedging we had to do aged me by at least 3 years
Beam tickling lol 😂
So glad you are saving this home!!! What a treasure! Reading through some of the comments I'm surprised more people having followed in your footsteps to help save some history in their own area. There seems to be alot of knowledge they're happy to share with you.
All about the housekeeping. Clean jobsite is a safe jobsite.
I love this show but this also led me to the UA-cam channel. ( cole the cornstar ) restoring his grandfather’s 100 year old mansion.
Watching you work is like watching my dad work except I don't have to duck.
Max is such a good doggo.
Good explanation of working with a dad lol
Good to see your got max supervising the project making sure everyone is pulling there weight haha
I love how in the time lapse segments Max keeps showing up to check in on you guys. He's awesome. He's like "ok guys, watcha doin now?".
Its coming on well,Nice to see Abandoned place coming up to being a family home again,Looks like a lot of work to be done
Shudda cleared all the scraps etc becore putting down the floor boards?? But then I'm a girl!! Figures huh?
I recommend putting in some thick insulation for both the outer walls and especially for the roof. I live in Norway and here it is required for new houses to at least have 20cm (8inc) for the walls and 30cm (12inc) for the roof. Vapor barrier is also required for both. I know this is a relatively high up front cost but you will safe a lot on your future energy bill.
I’ll put a lot of insulation in
I can't wait to see it when it is finished. Love progress so far. I know it's a lot of work but you're saving an old home that just needed some TLC so someone could call it home.
dude you should offer that wood to anyone that wants it? lots of useable wood pieces there! dont burn it!!
I chuckled when you stated where you were going to put a beam and Max took his paw and pointed to the spot several times in case we weren't sure exactly where it was going to go. 😂 He makes an excellent supervisor also. I encourage you to get a tetanus shot if you're not up to date. Wish I lived close as I'd love to have some of the scrap wood for making rustic crafts. I'm intrigued to see what you do with the piano. Was hoping it could be restored but I bet it wouldn't have still been there when you bought the place if that was possible. My brother-in-law has an antique organ that you have to pump two pedals near the floor to play and I just don't have the strength to do it very long. It also has wooden knobs that pull out to change the sound (I think that's what it does lol). Thanks for sharing your remodel. I'm excited to see what you do with the kitchen and will try to be patient!
Max keep’s everything running smoothly lol
Thanks for watching and the comment
The part with max, pointing to the bean spot, needs to be a reel! 😂
Lookin; good fellas. You're gettin; there a board at a time. Yep first aid on hand and tetnus up to date.
Good progress, but I would follow the advice of the various commenters who are suggesting that you remove the debris from under the new joists. You may regret not cleaning it in the future, as that will attract vermin, such as termites.
Hardest part for me to watch is your debris removal. When you demo, have your trailer outside ready to load onto and load the debris on it as you bring it out. Too much double touching and time wasted making piles and then moving piles. No stepping on boards with nails that way either.
I hope you clean out the basement and all the corners and remove the smelly old dust, mouse droppings and other things. These smells penetrate into the rooms through the wooden structure in damp weather.
Too bad you ripped out all the old floor boards. They are worth big bucks. Worth MORE than "NEW WOOD".
All the going back and forth from different projects fits the channel name well. I'm Here for it. It works
Come on lads don’t leave all that debris under the floor
Max is just Best Boy and deserves all the pets!!
Good to see all the work this time.
The work videos rock, the lives not so much.
The piano could make a cool work desk - PC, monitors, writing area etc...
Thats a good pupper!

I love that Max is almost always in the frame somewhere checking on you❤

Great long video love the dog
I just love your gentle giant of a dog you’ve got!!! (:
I enjoy watching your process. There are moments I disagree with you, but it's still fun to watch your project come together.
I’m enjoying your videos, but seriously, the takeaway from this isn’t to have a first aid kit in your truck (although that’s always a good idea), the takeaway is not to have stuff with nails in all over your worksite. I’m another guy who’d have cleared out that sub floor and built in an access hatch with an eye for whichever poor soul ends up having to crawl under there in the future.
Personally, I’d have cut and stacked all that waste timber for burning in a stove to keep the cabin warm once you’re living in it. Same thing goes with the trees you’re taking down.
Whatever. Like I say, I’m enjoying following your progress and I am also another Max fan. 😊
Well said.
i think mutley notice that old wood and so on when he done his inspection ,on the grond floor ,am sure he will remind you lol, enjoyed the video well done as always cheers from the uk
Max sure is a sweet dog. Do you need a vapor barrier on the ground under the floor?
Thank goodness Max is supervising the restoration 🧐. I can't wait to see the final result, but I'm really enjoying the process.
Oh, I forgot to say, congratulations for the 100K subscribers 🎉👏. You guys rock. 💪
Thank you
Don't you think it's good ide to have a doctor check your foot?
So that you don't get tetanus, which can be fatal and often comes from someone just like you stepping on an old nail.
Maybe play it safe before the unsafe and get a tetanus injection ??
I don’t see why you built the loft. I would have kept the high ceiling and put in a sky light.
I love reconstruction videos and I must say this series is one that I look forward to and is one of my favorites! Great fascinating work! ❤️
Thank you for watching, I’m glad you enjoy it
Great cabin video, this area of NY looks very familiar.
Awesome video man, appreciate you explaining every step (including the reworking!). One small tip that might hopefully help, try and get that collapsed porch roof in the thumbnail for your vids. It's what caught my eye and made me subscribe, and hopefully you'll get way more viewers as a result. Good luck, and thanks again!
I've been looking for a new cabin video for a while. Always enjoy them
Hopefully he will start posting 25-35 minute videos, more often than his longer, less frequent videos. Breaking the project down into smaller steps vids would net him more views, more Subscribers, more income and faster channel growth. Momentum is kind of important in the first few years of these "little bit of everything" build it, fix it, restore it, upgrade it, use it, outdoorsy channels. ;)
I love how far your getting. Your place will be fantastic when your done. ❤
I have a couple of recommendations. For the crawl space aside from cleaning, put some 6mil vapor barrier on the ground, that will cut down on moisture. I would also make sure you have house wrap, vapor barrier or foam gasket where untreated wood sits on stone or concrete. My 2 cents, I am enjoying the series, good job! Retired contractor in Canada, not too far from you.
Well done guys, great to see the job progressing and getting things done. Keep the work area clear and watch out for nails. Max is one of the stars of the show, love that dog.
Max is the best
I love love love this kind of content. Keep building, keep grinding. I want to see more as soon as possible.
I still say this is like pouring perfume on a pig. For all the work that's being done, and an old stone foundation, dirt floor, etc. I would have completely demolished the entire property, excavated a basement, poured a foundation and new walls, with a concrete floor and started a larger property with all new materials. It might have even been faster considering all the repairs.....🤔 But that's just me. Maybe a little OCD...🤔 Hope your foot is doing better. 🕊️🙏🏻🥰
When you said you were gonna get everything glued and screwed I imagined it was Max saying it. I'm still laughing about that. 😂😂
I love the idea and the timelapse and the dog! But I cannot continue watching after noticing you didn't clean up from under the floor.
Awesome progress. I hope you and Max are doing better
Got a lot done in this one. Looking good! I wish my Max was still around. He was my my best buddy, my shadow.

Take pride in your rebuild and clean up all trash & debris. Your stepping on, tripping on, and twisting your ankle on all that debris! That's just lazy!
what size is the property? and where are you located? nice watching progress.
Anxiously waiting for your decisions on the roof and chimney/fireplace.
Roof video coming soon
Wonder if there is any / enough good wood you’re pulling g out of there to make a cool old table or something to put back in the cabin once it’s finished. Would be kind of a neat homage to the history of the building.
I have saved some and I have a project I’ll use them for later
Hopefully you guys clean all the junk crap wood out from under that new floor before you seal it up. All that junk left makes a great spot for rodents and termites and critters to live. Get all that trash out of there!

segway(take away from that is) from that is clean up your job site each day so there are no boards or nails sticking up in the boards for anyone to step on...
Good progress. Keep it going.
Yes, why not Clean the trash up before putting the floor system in???
Why, in a world..., you did not clean under framing a new floor??? All that shit????, just wondering????
When you see how much work has been done to date it amazes me to think you've only gotten started. Keep up the good work. You too Max.
I have to say you seem to do everything backwards. You spent ages moving the mini digger around saplings only to take them out after. You smashed the interior out then started looking at the foundation, but only at one side of the house. The wrecked piano that weighs in at a quarter tonne is still in there while you're trying to jack it up. You've got no lighting inside so are working in the dark. That concrete job in the basement was embarrassingly bad. Fix the wheel on your water trailer. Then you start playing hunt the souvenir with a metal detector and start abusing your tiny tipper trailer. The site itself is messy and in disarray which is just dangerous and now you fell through the floor (it's not the gloor's fault). Sorry to be negative but you're not helping yourself.
U need to tear the loft down that u should of never put up. Now that room looks like a oversized closet.
Should have cleaned the crap first
I worked large construction projects 3 blocks in size at one time. If the foreman came across a board with the nail sticking up he'd try to find who placed it there and fire them on the spot. Always turn the nail side down, please. No excuse.
"Never use a screw where a nail will do!" Old motto, could of used galv twists on joist hangers.
Rips apart trailer with an excavator and complains that his $200 purchase is falling to pieces. Leaves maintenance door off the mini excavator and wonders how water got in the engine when it rains hard...my guy, you are making this process more difficult than it needs to be.
Lots of headers, etc, built with deck screws too. Or is it just joist hangers that matter? (Also, what's with the "music of the Confederacy"?)
Looking forward to see how you insulate the place
A mess left under the floor, not access created to get into the crawlspace. I might just have to quit watching because it's all driving me crazy. Several times in this video you said you wanted it to last for a long time yet you are not taking the time to clean things up. And that Cistern should be taken care of as well, all it's going to do is hold moisture. You also wouldn't need first aid if you kept your job site cleaned up.
