Honestly something that few know is that the Riverside, aside being a great overdrive, can be used as a preamp! And it does a great job, so great that you could couple it with an IR loader and you have an amp-less rig in your hands. The Riverside replaced, alone, 4 pedals on my board: A full-range overdrive, a mid-boosted overdrive, a booster, a noise gate and it is a great buffer as well. That's great value for money right there. I haven't tried the Sunset but I feel, from reading reviews and watching videos, that it is more geared towards being a bunch of overdrives whereas the Riverside acts more like an amplifier.
I have the Sunset. It's on a small board with a JHS Pink Panther, Keely SuperMod Workstation and a TC Ditto. It's a small but powerful board in how many different sounds are available. (There is also a Boss Dimension C at the end of the chain but not on the board.) The Sunset gives you so many possibilities. I like Germanium and 2 Stage but the more I mess around with it I've come to dig JFET and Treble also, individually or one driven into the other or parallel. Good show. Thanks.
I really like these guys. Shame that I won't be able to visit the store because I live in Europe, but glad that you are so active on UA-cam. Keep up the great work!
An eye-opener for me. I didn't have the Deco on my radar as a Strymon capable of sweet sounding light drive, (which is what I like). Hmm time for a deeper dive & purchase?
These pedals sound really good, I have a pedalboard filled with Boss Waza’s and now you guys have me contemplating a larger board haha! PS ~ In my afterlife I want to play like Cooper 🤟🤣
Don’t feel bad. I’m the King of getting pedals and leaving them alone for a looong time 🤣 I have a HXStomp XL that I’ve had well over a year, have yet to do the deep dive tweaking lol… and an axe8 multi effect same deal . Don’t hate me 😂
It would be interesting to get the options and opinions when you put the Compadre in front of them and gain stage with clean boost. My guess is the combination of the Compadre and the Riverside could produce a Sunset distortion. But I am guessing.
I like Strymon for reverb/delay stuff, but $300+ for a dirt pedal is a bit much. For that kinda money, I’d rather have three Xotic pedals, such as an EP3 boost, BB preamp, and SL drive.
This is probably a dumb question, but to get the best kind of sounds from those pedals, is a general rule of thumb, should the guitar volume knob be cranked to 8-10 with the amp volume set at 4-6? Thank you.
In case you're still wondering 8 months later, yes that's right. The pedal is the "amp" that you're driving hard, and your actual amp is mainly used as a clean(ish) amplification of that sound. Can always experiment though, good sounds can also come from a driven drive into a hot amp
I get that you're trying to show off the capabilities of three pedals in a relatively short timeframe, but just demonstrating the range of the gain knobs would go a long way to show just what the pedals are really capable of. The Riverside, for instance, can produce early 80's hair metal tones at full gain on the low setting, and can get pretty modern sounding distortion at full gain on the high setting. You really wouldn't think that by only listening to it with the gain knob at noon like the video.
The red one is like eating Shredded Wheat-no milk. The gold one is like Captain Crunch-no milk. The Silver one is like mashed potatoes with turkey gravy.

All gain pedals can be used as preamps

Great Video guys! Thanks. Added the Riverside and this helped!
Wow, you did a great job with that Deco, and holy moly, the talent. Well done.
10:47 to hear the pedals. YW.
All sound great! I really want that riverside, although I’d take the sunset no problem
Thank you for a great demo, guys!
The Deco bc it is so much more than just an overdrive
Yeah, it's basically a guitar doubler, am I right?
@@homevalueglass3809 yes and the time knob gives you everything from flanger through chorus to slapback
@chri_so is chorus usable? Will it work for some funky chorusy stuff with compression? Something like red hot chili peppers BSSM guitar sounds

Over 60 pedals. I have a midi switcher I’ve had over a year, still have not set it up.

I’m just here for asmr pedal talk
Nice playing, man.
If you want the Tom Schulz Boston type distorted sound, the Sunset is your pedal!

Chopsticks with pinch harmonics please.
