For me the best thing about this pedal is that its tone is perfect to go into a mix. not to much ridiculous low or high end. just perfect for tweaking into a mix however you wish!
Rabea Massaad Cool pedal indeed, but isnt it more of an overdrive? That tubescreamery thing where you can hear the clean signal underneath seams to apear in this pedal a little too.
Rabea Massaad...agree with you on fitting in the mix...its why I was always perplexed why treble boosters fell out of fashion as the inherent high-pass filtering of a treble booster always nicely removed all the junk and mush you dont want in your mix. and the inherent thickening of notes as you get higher in pitch up the neck with a treble booster also perfect compliments the "mix fitting" of the high-pass filtering of an treble booster....plus...dave gilmour, brian may, tony iommi, Glenn tipton, Ritchie blackmore, Rory Gallagher and Eric Clapton couldn't been wrong in their true "tone maven" days!! loving the new Toska stuff...really moving.
As a Stratocaster and telecaster guy I was glad to see this bit of the demo. I really love how the pedal sounds like it's not even THERE when the gain is at its lowest! A true sign of tranparency!!!
Great review! Add the Strymon mini-boost pedal to the Riverside pedal to expand tones into a whole new world! It essentially turns your amp into a 5-channel beast: 1. Clean 2. Low Gain 3. Low Gain with boost 4. High Gain (Favorite) 5. High Gain with Boost (Favorite) ....also this pedal is quiet with a great noise gate built in and switches that are noiseless, smooth, and inspiring. Best OD pedal Ive used yet. Very professional. Live I play a strat through a Peterson strobe tuner into the Riverside pedal (with mini boost) through a Mesa California Tweed amp and a BOSS DD-500 in the effects loop. Simple, easy to navigate at gigs, and a glorious tone! Im writing this in 2020 so I know there are a lot of newer OD pedals out there but Ive yet to experience a better pedal than the Riverside. GET IT!
My all time favorite drive pedal. So good. It makes me smile when I click it on. Secondary functions include built in adjustable noise gate and adjustable boost with mini switch.
Bro you're shedding the pounds and shredding the guitar! Been watching for a few years now and I'm super happy to see all your success and good health.
Everytime I watch an old video and then a present day video, I'm just amazed at the transformation! You've really done so well Bea, very happy for you, keep it up! Also great review, not a huge fan of pedal distortion but my god you've tempted me with one of these!
Excellent demonstration! I very much enjoyed the detailed examples to what could be a very confusing task while shopping in your favorite music store. I’m pretty sure this demo helped sell what appears to be a finely designed product. Thank you.
Viewer Discretion Advised, content may not be suitable for some and you will probably be spending $299 on this fine Strymon product that is totally worth it. Just skip to 32:00 if you don't believe me. I'm definitely in.
you get one? I'm thinking of trading my fancy drives for Riverside. I realize I love 98% of all the sounds my Strymons make, why should this be different?
Great video Man got this pedal from Andertons very mixed review on UA-cam a lot of people are turned of the riverside by the digital element of the pedal I have a couple of analogue drive pedals and have to say that this pedal is totally awesome great review. I love all your reviews keep doing what your doing happy new year from Ireland✌️🎸🇨🇮
Rabea: Thanks for the video. Thorough and very well done. I have to agree with you that the Strymon Riverside is a very well executed overdrive pedal. I think you're right, the floating DSP processing is perhaps it's best feature. That said, it was my (close) second choice when it came time to purchase an overdrive pedal. I chose Blackstone Appliances MOSFET Overdrive. Different design, more primitive for sure. Better sonic/practical results for me.
Very useful review, Rabea. Congrats! Also, it contains the perfect mix of explanation about the pedal and the sounds it's capable of - too many online reviews are spoiled because the guitarist just wants to show off his chops. Not so here. Well done and thanks. Might just have to go and try one out...
Bea, do you find that any underlying health annoyances have vanished with your weight loss? Also, you should do a vid on health and diet. Your an inspiration in so many ways bro.
Hey Rabea, I love your videos and your playing! It's always a pleasure to watch your demos mostly for what you can get off those guitars. Best tones and mid range. I'm a student now, but one day.. that Kraken will be mine! :D Keep doing great job man!
Fantastic playing as always! :) I really enjoyed the review! And congratulation on your weight loss man! I'm on a same path and I know the struggle. Keep it up, looking awesome!
Hey Rabea, i was looking to buy this pedal....this review made me decide to get the shit out of this box. Thanks for your videos and great knowledge! Cheers from Argentina.
I just have to pause this awesome review to jump on the "rabea u look so great" bandwagon haha..seriously tho man all ur hard work is DEF paying off..cheers, peace, and love from a usa guitarist and big fan!
Bea! I've followed you for years, and I'm so happy to see you more slim and happy! It's a big goal Btw, the playing is amazing as always Cheers from Italy!
***** Yamaha NS10M If you can't hear the spikes on the midrange and the lack of dynamics on the bottom end, I suggest you to rest your ears for 10 minutes and then play the video from the beginning.
P.S. you may compare the riff at the beginning here: watch?v=7m7njvwB-Ks Now, Dimebag's sound is not something everybody likes, but I guess you can see why the pedal is no good for high distortion. It's good for crunch sounds, maybe, but even there you have to scroll from 2500 to 4500 and find all the spikes to cut.
no offence mate but that Yamaha NS10m is a bit harsh in midrange response, i know coz i used em for years but i've swiched to the Neumann KH 120 which are absolutely fantastic, bit pricey but worth every peny
***** None taken, I know my NS10 since 20 years, they really reveal the problems in the mid range, and they lack the very low bottom end, yet they were the industry standard for decades...for a reason ;) Just paste the link and see what I'm talking about.
I went completely digit but if I had a pedal board it would be all Strymon including this Riverside pedal, Mobius, Timeline and Big Sky. I think that would be my dream board. I'll be moving to either a Kemper or Helix though. Nice tone Bea, most pedal demo's is all high and mids. This tone is fat and thumps which I like.
very good review. while its always a bit like looking at a painting through a keyhole when it comes to appreciating what a pedal really sounds like via youtube videos, at least with rab you get a decent comprehensive impression of the pedal's options and tones and also a minimum amount of needless off topic banter and chatter to boot!. kudos.
Didn't hear a single bad tone, I really loved the fact that even with all the gain it didnt sound like anus. I was never a huuuuge fan of the insane midrange type of sound until I start watching your vids but now I love it :) ta!
Hi Rabea, seriously looking at this pedal so the demo was really helpful. Doesn't seem to be a huge amount of extreme high end on this demo though (which I like!). Just checking you didn't add some kind of LPF or EQ in post? P.S. Listening through Focal Twins.
Rabea, you're great. Also, "does is djent" has become a joke with the other member of my band. It's great. Edit: I'm also flying over to the UK to steal your PRS. Just be warned. :P
I think the Riverside is a cool concept but it's never been the sound I am looking for. Honestly this video got the best sounds out of it I've seen so far. It might just be the prs and the victory doing it justice. Good review though! I would just rather have a few analog drives that each do their own thing rather than a riverside that is trying to do it all. Just me though.
Dammit Bea! I was trying to avoid buying any new pedals this month. My wife is going to be pissed! Too bad your chops don't come with the purchase of this beast! Thanks for the great review! Cheers!
Hey Rabea, at some point can you give a little rundown for that chromatic/bluesy style shred lick you rip at 23:12, again at 24:00, and at You use that a decent amount in your playing and I love it but I just cannot find a way to play it that isn't insanely awkward.
Thanks for doing this review, Rabea. It sounds fantastic! I have been using the Analog Man King of Tone and I think I like the Riverside more after hearing you demo the pedal. Are you familiar with the King of Tone and if so do you like the Riverside more?
Just like me, it looks as though you have lost some weight! Great job bro! This pedal sounds nice and I like the variations. It's a nice addition to my amps generated tube gain. Also, the programmability is VERY helpful! Thanx for the excellent demo!
my pleasure rabea. just thinking here would it be worthwhile doing a follow up video on how the riverside interacts with an amp when its has some gain or crunch dialed in?
I want one. First saw it wirh Chappers & the Captain in the head vs tread this afternoon! I am also going to hunt for more of that monster prototype guitar, see if you got anything more of that...
Hi Rabea, thanks for this demo!! And what about something like your Big Sky's series, but is time for Time Line? There are a lot of videos about TimeLine, but no one with (your) rock attitude!!!
I've had a Riverside, Sunset and Big Sky unit for a while now. Strymon effects are so well done and offer many sound variations - all cool and great sounding. Congratulations on your weight loss. I would imagine it's opened up a new problem for you however...fighting off babes. Turns out there was a real good looking dude under there. Thanks for your videos.
I have one, and was very curious/interested to hear your lengthy review. Unfortunately, unlike mine, I found yours very brittle/harsh. On an upbeat, you’re looking a lot better and full credit to you 👌🏻
Rabea - Pete Thorn's got nothing on you as a player, however, his demos are cooler because he creates a track with the item that's being demo'd. You should think about doing a full recorded band arrangement so you can riff and solo over them. That's why Pete's demos are so badass - you should consider doing the same since you're just as badass as he is as a player!
dobby240 cheers bro, had a few bits on my arm but had it all tied together within 2 months so it's a lot of work done. Got another session in Feb so looking forward to getting it finished
Yeah fair man Looks real good, might I add you look like you've lost a shit load of weight you look good dude. Also that pedal is pretty sick. thanks for the video's man.

Rabea Massaad when do toska and dorje go on tour again?
Rabea Massaad very cool pedal indeed:)

Rabea's First Born: "Daddy, why is my middle name Strymon?"
Rabea: Plugs in. "Listen to this..."
Everytime I watch an old video and then a present day video, I'm just amazed at the transformation! You've really done so well Bea, very happy for you, keep it up! Also great review, not a huge fan of pedal distortion but my god you've tempted me with one of these!

Rabea deserves way more views than he gets on this channel. Really great clip, thanks!
Best review of this pedal I've seen so far. Awesome job👍
Excellent review, Bea. It's great to have someone you trust to demo things before you spend your money. Thanks.
I could listen to Rabea play a strat all day.....just wonderful.
One of the best pedal demos I have seen. Great job.

This is an awesome, thorough review of this pedal.
Rabea, you are looking great! I love your demonstrations. Very detailed and meaningful.
Where's the other half of Rabea?
Zach Pfeif absorbed and recycled into Rebea Massaad +
He just lowered his "gain" and reduced his mids ... :-)
He's tightens up his bottom end too
(drops mic, walks off...)
Still sounds phat
Always good to hear you play Rabea. This sounds sooo much like the gain stages in the Fender Bassbreaker 15. Nicely done.
I have a Timeline and Blue Sky, love their pedals. Love the demo man, great job. Just seems like a super versatile pedal. Thanks man.
Bea you're a completely different man on the outside! Crazy stuff. Fantastic review, really want one now!
Thanks for the videos, your playing is always so inspiring to pick up the guitar !
Great review. Great to see you looking so well.
Bea, do you find that any underlying health annoyances have vanished with your weight loss? Also, you should do a vid on health and diet. Your an inspiration in so many ways bro.
Loved you played a bit of Incubus there! I love the tone of this pedal, similar to my tone style of play.
I noticed A certain shade of green at 12:20 ;) Great demo Bea
GOOD, in depth review - easily the best that I`ve seen of the Riverside. What else needs to be said ?
how it's different to any other distortion pedal. you could say that.
Hey Rabea, I love your videos and your playing! It's always a pleasure to watch your demos mostly for what you can get off those guitars. Best tones and mid range. I'm a student now, but one day.. that Kraken will be mine! :D

Fantastic playing as always! :) I really enjoyed the review!
And congratulation on your weight loss man! I'm on a same path and I know the struggle. Keep it up, looking awesome!
Dude, you should post a video about your workout routine. Whatever you're doing, it's working!
A certain shade of green by incubus at 12:19 I can appreciate that
Hey Rabea, i was looking to buy this pedal....this review made me decide to get the shit out of this box. Thanks for your videos and great knowledge! Cheers from Argentina.
Such good sounds! (And great playing!)
Haha! Releasing the bend around 34:02 by rewinding the take. Nice touch within another great demo!
I just have to pause this awesome review to jump on the "rabea u look so great" bandwagon haha..seriously tho man all ur hard work is DEF paying off..cheers, peace, and love from a usa guitarist and big fan!
Bea you look amazing! So inspirational! Keep up the great work!
Bea! I've followed you for years, and I'm so happy to see you more slim and happy! It's a big goal
Btw, the playing is amazing as always
Cheers from Italy!
thanks a lot man, and thank you for supporting me this whole time! really appreciate it! glad you enjoyed the video :-)
Good review and nice science behind this.
Too bad it sounds like a broken radio :)
Well, it may be the sound someone is after...
broken radio?! i don't know what you're using to listen to this video but i'm running it through studio monitors and it sounds grand :)

Great video. Great pedal. Great Caesar's Ghost you've lost some weight! Looking good brother. Well done sir!

cheers man! I appreciate that, I guess my main priority with my demos is to give you the clearest and most transparent audio quality that I can.
Didn't hear a single bad tone, I really loved the fact that even with all the gain it didnt sound like anus. I was never a huuuuge fan of the insane midrange type of sound until I start watching your vids but now I love it :) ta!
Going to use this with my prophet 10 synth along with a big sky, Mobius, and time line.
Great review by the way.
Looking in good shape Bea!
Would be interesting to see the Comprade boost used in combination to the Riverside.

Bea.....good to see you......BIG FAN
Best drive period! It finally pushed digital past the analog myth with DSP tech.
Rabea, you're great. Also, "does is djent" has become a joke with the other member of my band. It's great.
Edit: I'm also flying over to the UK to steal your PRS. Just be warned. :P
This is the coherent and informative review I’ve heard on the Strymon Sunset. I will be buying one! Thank you for this!
This is the Riverside, Dick4Brainz.

Nice work. I dig it.
Wow man, you've lost so much weight! Well done mate, looking great! Great demo

I would thoroughly enjoy to hear your thoughts on your new PRS. Cheers
Thanks for doing this review, Rabea. It sounds fantastic! I have been using the Analog Man King of Tone and I think I like the Riverside more after hearing you demo the pedal. Are you familiar with the King of Tone and if so do you like the Riverside more?
Very good review !..... But you should've maxed the EQ like the manual, and adjusted the level for DJENT,....ROCK ON !
Nice playing very nice tones and feel
Just like me, it looks as though you have lost some weight! Great job bro! This pedal sounds nice and I like the variations. It's a nice addition to my amps generated tube gain. Also, the programmability is VERY helpful! Thanx for the excellent demo!
you're welcome dude, thanks for the feedback and kind words!
And with 300 user presets you can a few sounds with every guitar
Thank you for doing a demo with a Strat!
looking real fit man. Great job dude!
Homeboy's losing weight. Good on you, Rabea. Looking good. Congrats.
my pleasure rabea. just thinking here would it be worthwhile doing a follow up video on how the riverside interacts with an amp when its has some gain or crunch dialed in?
Bea omfg! U looks amazing mate! Have a nice day and stay awsome :)
Very comprehensive review, thank you. And it's nice to hear your new PRS being given an outing ;-)
I want one. First saw it wirh Chappers & the Captain in the head vs tread this afternoon! I am also going to hunt for more of that monster prototype guitar, see if you got anything more of that...
Sounds massive. Gonna buy one. :)
Thanks. How does tis compare to the Sunset?
Hi Rabea, thanks for this demo!! And what about something like your Big Sky's series, but is time for Time Line? There are a lot of videos about TimeLine, but no one with (your) rock attitude!!!
Sounds cleaaaan
instablaster
Rabea lookin good bud! Loox like you been dropping some lbs! or Stones i guess in England.... anyway cheers for the hard work!
Bea, will Toska merch get re-stocked anytime soon? I'd love to get the hoodie but its sold out
hey man, we will be restocking very soon. I'll be making it known to all interested as and when!
Rabea Massaad awesome, thanks!
ward
I've had a Riverside, Sunset and Big Sky unit for a while now. Strymon effects are so well done and offer many sound variations - all cool and great sounding. Congratulations on your weight loss. I would imagine it's opened up a new problem for you however...fighting off babes. Turns out there was a real good looking dude under there. Thanks for your videos.
So I guess 6 years on.
Do you still have it?
Do you use it?
I love mine it's the perfect standalone or stacking OD.
Great video as always man. This pedal sounds great. Do you reckon you'd use it live?
Great review!
I have one, and was very curious/interested to hear your lengthy review. Unfortunately, unlike mine, I found yours very brittle/harsh.
On an upbeat, you’re looking a lot better and full credit to you 👌🏻
Looking good bro! Like "A Certain Shade of Green."
Dude, you've lost so much weight you're ALL fro now. Good on you brotherman!
Rabea - Pete Thorn's got nothing on you as a player, however, his demos are cooler because he creates a track with the item that's being demo'd. Sick pedal, and that tat man. didnt know you got it done. looks real nice.
dobby240 cheers bro, had a few bits on my arm but had it all tied together within 2 months so it's a lot of work done. Got another session in Feb so looking forward to getting it finished
Yeah fair man Looks real good, might I add you look like you've lost a shit load of weight you look good dude. Also that pedal is pretty sick. thanks for the video's man.
Thank you Bea, now I want this pedal really bad... Haha
Great video :)
Almost bought this pedal ended up with the Friedman. Loving the Friedman so much
Friedman be od?
Bea, can I ask with regard to the favourite function, can you set a louder sound with the master volume, save it, then play rhythm with a slightly lower volume, then when it comes to lead, activate favourite and the volume goes up? Thanks
Hi Lee, I bought the pedal a week ago.
Answering your question, yes, you can. You can save all settings (toggle switches positions included) within favorite preset
How would you compare this pedal to a Stryman Sunset? A Sunset came highly recommended to me.
it sounds Amazing...I like too this effect
Hey Bea, I'm super interested in what gear you use to record at home - what interface, cab sims, mics (if applicable), monitors, headphones, etc? I know you use Two Notes, and I'm pretty acquainted with your guitars and amps, but I'm wondering about the rest. Maybe a run-through of it when you get a chance? Rock on mate. :)
Just ordered it! You sold me!
Cam cuts out when the best riffs are coming, great video!
+Miguel Vivo couldn't believe when I was editing the video after!
Had to keep it in!
