My biggest problem with the single player of COH2 was that you could beat every mission with 3 units. Mortars, conscripts and an anti tank gun or two. You would soften up the enemy with mortars then zerg rush in your conscripts using the anti tank guns to deal with armour. There was never any need for anything more advanced because this would always work.
yeah, i cut a line from the review that went something like: "You have a choice between Sniper alley, MG avenue or tank street." Most missions where you have to attack something the enemy just sits there and takes your fire unless there's scripted counterattacks that can be stopped by one MG and one ATgun. Some of the later missions are fine though, like the Tiger hunting mission and the fortress assault. I believe the good missions where made earlier in development as proof of concept, I remember the Tiger hunting mission being played by journalists and was supposed to be an example of truesight in action.

@@faydulaksono Oh boy, here we go: AI - In CoH 1 each person in the unit reacts to battle conditions independently and immediately, because of this the units behave extremely naturally. In CoH 2 the units behave in sync. It gets so bad, the individual troops' animations actually sync up and it looks like one of the later C&C games. The unit's reactions to fire are also extremely delayed. GUI - In CoH 1 the UI was minimalistic. It had very toned down color-scheme to keep you focused on the battlefield. The UI also didn't waste any space, and provided you with extra information which could potentially help you. For example it identified which modules on the vehicle were broken which allowed you to plan its usage accordingly. The UI also showed you the statistics of individual units, like damage and how many targets they killed. This allowed you to plan ahead and basically know what modifications are the best. In CoH 2 the statistics and vehicle damage info is gone. Instead we have a giant bar of unit's historical information that takes like 1/3 of the screen. That information is just crap that you normally would find in a booklet that came with a CD or a wikia, it carries no info about the unit's performance or status in the battle. Also, the GUI is very bright, makes it hard to focus, and worst of all instead of classic CoH fonts, they used fucking New Times Roman.... in Italics.... The game literally looks like a Beta. Hey at least they didn't use Comic Sans, right? The plot - In CoH 2 Germans are showed as good guys, while the Russians they invaded are shown as the antagonists. Basically CoH 2 is the result of Sega's purchase of the IP. They got the product in early stages of development, but didn't want to commit to fully realizing the product and spending any more money on it, so they forced Relic to release the product ASAP without bothering to finish it.
I have both games. Got Coh 2 for free. Bought Coh1. I couldn't play coh2 more than 5 minutes lol. Something about it feels very static compared to CoH1
I totally agree! I quit COH2 in the campaign because like the video said there was just a bunch of bullshit defense missions that got old. The skirmish modes also felt like they were missing something that the first one had. I also got really overwhelmed by all the different commanders and upgrades
I've played 130 hours of CoH2 and still haven't managed to unlock a single new commander :P But it's OK, I like to play mods and a lot of them turn the commanders off entirely and replace them with another system.
Commedically i was just talking to my friend about these two games. Always felt 2 felt more "sportorised" in comparission to 1... 2 just never quite felt right. Theres things i definately like about 2 but somethings just dont feel right.
The cold tech system was not fun because players have to camp around fires, and makes flanking in areas without cold weather support (like fires, buildings) too dangerous to worth the reward. Also I would like to add the theatre of war (specifically the Russian campaign which comes free with the game) is bugged, and after some google searches, it seems this is a consistent issue (some forums even dated back 7 years ago).
@@iwanttocomplain It basucally forces every factions to play as the Brits: building campfires instead of simcity. Thus slows the game for no strategic value.

I played COH 2 campaign and was extremely short compare to what I remember from the first COH 1... Is this normal? Did they invest little effort for the single-player on the second title? Note: Those skirmish map vs AI doesn't count as part of the campaign, they have no special setup maps with trigger events and dialogs.
7:59 I don't even know why they make you choose between three commanders even from the start of match when you can be at a disadvantage in the early game if you don't. I'm just only ever going to pick Osttruppen Doctrine anyways, so I'd rather not have to press the button to select it every time I start a match. Should have been like in DoW2, where you already start with a preselected hero, if you ask me.
Its weird that before playing Company of Heroes 1 again, I thought it was so much better than the 2nd.But recently revisiting CoH 1 it really, really doesn't hold up to my memory of it. Whether thats because of nostalgia (it's not, I play plenty of retro games) or because of how much 2 has improved over the years. I can't think of a more fun, well balanced RTS. I find the core mechanics of the COH2 to be very close to perfection. That said, the campaign is garbage whereas the first game has a lovely campaign, I have never bothered with "Theater of War". The commanders were a drawback as they were kind of P2W but there are a lot availble at first now. The intel bulletins thing is a cool mechnic ruined by some useless cards, ie for units that no longer exist.... Inexcusable IMO should be patched out but 8 years in I think that's unlikely.
I'm speculating that CoH 2 was more focused on the multiplayer aspect. That's probably why the campaign sucked (i never played coh 2 myself). I played plenty of Coh 1 multiplayer and suffered a lot of lag and people disconnecting their internet when losing and still getting a win.

i played both, coh 2 feels like a half baked. idk why but i also purchased the dlc of western front and the one with oberkomando but still it feels half baked. while coh 1 for me is better because it doesnt have any micro transactions and can be purcahsed along side its 2 dlc that is mainly for campaign which makes the multiplayer experience much not so "pay2win"

You missed how men get vet for receiving fire rather than getting kills. That changes the meta completely. Meaning you need to avoid engaging the enemy if you want to deny them vet. But in the end coh2 is really boring whereas coh1 is really exciting.
Your comment doesnt seems to be logic "in coh1 veterency sustem you need to avoid fighting, so coh2 is boring" is it not supposed to be the opposite since attacking is more exciting?!
@@GhostStyle007 in coh2 you receive vet for taking damage, whereas in coh1 you only get vet for kills. So in coh2 a player might avoid attacking in order to deny the enemy the vet they would receive from taking damage even if they do not cause any damage.
@@iwanttocomplain I already told you that what you just said was 100% wrong, in COH2 you get 75% by wounding/killing other units, and 25% by proximity+getting shot at. COH2 xp system is very deep, it also take in consideration the value of the unit you just killed (price+veterancy). Thats why if you watch ANY multiplayer game right now of COH2 from any streamer, you will just see that it's exactly the extreme opposite of "boring" since you literally want to start shooting as soon as the game start (to gain veterancy+commander xp) you should play COH 2 before commenting, otherways it's misleading to the viewers and a bad advertising for no reason... You know what? you are ALSO wrong concerning COH1, cause the veterancy gain by killing is only applied on US faction.

That can be done in CoH 1 too as the Americans in the airborne spec.

It took me a while to get used to but 2 is more fast paced. Only the Hard AI is ever worth playing against.

You remember poorly. Original CoH has 15 missions long campaign, CoH2 has 14.

CoH2 is a much more forgiving game from AT damage and unit health to Popcap not being tied to captured sectors.
