La Paz is a great place if you have money, very safe in comparison to other capital cities in South America.
I really liked the San Miguel area! ❤️🙏
Michael, extremely good video with useful information, showed the actual places and restaurants and options, Definitely, for $1,000 it is a steal, Beautiful place and environment, A 10 for you.
Victo, Miami.
@@chevynissan9694 thank you so much! 😊
Excellent info I'm a army retired planing on moving to La Paz, I'm originally from La Paz but I've been disconnected from Bolivia for many years thank you for sharing
Excellent choice mi amigo. I love it!

Nice video, I love seeing the narrator actually in the film. Telling me and showing me what La Paz has to offer make your video very creditable,
Awww.. thank you very much!
In this video I show my actual apartment, and itemize all monthly expenses for *Cheap Early Retirement in La Paz Bolivia!* I actually loved La Paz as it was such a diverse city. If you are ever in South America, make sure to visit La Paz! You'll be happy you did...
Thanks for sharing these details. Were you able to find this place on common short/long term rental platforms or you went through an agency?
Great video Michael!
I also was wondering how you went about obtaining a living space in La Paz. I'm a US citizen who travels often to La Paz for business & thinking it'll be cheaper to rent a space like you did
@@marthamdiaz5837 I got an discounted hotel in San Miguel for 5 nights (I have wholesale hotel connections), and then began asking locals if they knew of any monthly rentals or of anyone wanting to rent an apartment or condo by the month. I found one which I really loved and came to an agreement with the owner. Good luck!
@@jeanpierrerodrigue2917 I actually have wholesale hotel connections at which I stayed at first. Then I walked around a few neighborhoods and spoke with owners before renting.
I moved to the US several years ago and then realized quality of life is so low in the US, so I came back to La Paz, which is where I'm from lol
Yes, a lot of people come to the US thinking it’s such a great life, but everything in the United States is so expensive you spend all your time working just to pay your living expenses. in La Paz, it was amazingly cheap to live there. I really like it. 🙏❤️
I appreciate you taking the time to cover the restaurants and bakeries... I'm a big foodie, Thank you and Subbed!😋
Awww thank you so much! I loved the food in South America!!
Really nice video! We do have much larger supermarkets in La Paz, but they are not as close to your place as the one you showed. Nevertheless, I agree that they will never compare to the variety of products you find in the US or other countries. If you want to save some additional money, we also have farmers' markets and street markets scattered around the city.
Yes, I was going to this supermarket as it was very close to where I was staying and had pretty much everything I needed. :)
Typica is fantastic.
Agreed..❤
Great video and great information on the cost of living in La Paz. It definitely is much cheaper than living in the States.
Yes sir, you have that right. It's so much cheaper than the US, and a nice quality of life!
@@TheTravelInsiderexacto calidad de vida y comida sana si uno quiere alimentarse sin transgénicos,me encanta el vídeo.
Great job Michael! Very informative!!
Thanks so much!!
I sent you an email!@@TheTravelInsider
Excellent video. Thank you.
Thank you so much 🙏😊
amazing and affordable!
Absolutely!! 🎉
Awesome video! New subscriber
Hey glad you liked it. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the video! What about elevation sickness? How do people find rentals in La Paz!
I found mine on Airbnb..
First time watching your video and akready a fan!! Im will retire in tarija, bolivia but now you ste making me consider la paz. Who knew! How do you like the the weather?
I thought the weather was absolutely beautiful. It does take a little while to get used to the altitude difference from where I’m from in the US to the 12k foot altitude in La Paz!
Looks really nice. How easy can an American get a permanent or long-term retirement visa?
Good video, and good information, thank you.
Not all that difficult...
Living in La Paz for 7 years now, but the altitude wouldn’t be a fit for my retirement plans :)
Yes I will also admit it got to me at times too ❤️
Fun video😃
Thank you very much!
Im on SSDI n I would like to come here or Costa Rica
Both are great choices!
Hi Michael, great video & thanks for sharing. I'm a US citizen who will be inheriting a 4 bedroom home 2.5 miles south of Valle de la Luna & was wanting some advice on how to go about renting it. I'd prefer renting to other US citizens that are living here for work or study purposes. Any suggestions???
How much are you looking to rent it for? And where is Valle de la Luna located? And unless you know someone, I'm not familiar with renting out properties in Peru. And it also depends on the type of renting you're looking to do. Long term or short term. Wish short term you can put it on Airbnb. Long term I suppose you could use an agency but I'm not familiar with that process. Hope this helps...
@@TheTravelInsider Valle de la Luna is located in La Paz, past the zoo. It's south of Calacoto. I'm not sure what kind of renting I'd want to offer. But was thinking about turning it into a sorta communal living space & rent each bedroom out because the 4 bedrooms each have to their own bathroom. The communal living space would be the LR, DR & kitchen, as well as full access to the backyard that has a fire pit. It's all new to me & I appreciate your time & insight.
I’m in Ecuador and interested in visiting La Paz to check out other cities. Do you know any expats who have been able to rent with pets down there? Thank you!
Honestly I have no idea..
I’m sorry 🙏
Any thoughts about budgeting health insurance?
Are you planning on staying long term or only for a few months?
@@TheTravelInsider Not sure. But I guess I was wondering how you handle health insurance and medical care as you travel the world.
@@BoydJones My health is excellent and I get a physical about once a year so I've never really had any health issues. Some countries offer a national health plan if you're planning on being a resident. If not the medical treatment is so cheap in South America, so much so that I didn't really worry about it
I subscribed. Have you gotten the Bolivian residency? Is it hard to get?
I did not get residency when I was there. I was actually in 5 different countries in South America on this particular trip!
Is the living in the clouds long term healthy for people from lower altitudes? People do eventually acclimatize but the oxygen levels are a third lower than the ones at the sea level.
Yes, the air is definetly thinner and you'll notice it for sure! I had to stop several times walking in the historic area. Where I lived in San Miguel it wasn't as hilly so it didn't really bother me so much!
Do you have to move every month and find a new place to live?
Can seniors get long term rentals so they can relax for a while?
Yes, sir, seniors don’t have to move at all if you don’t want to. I moved because I choose to. If you wanna get a long-term riddle, I assure you it’s no problem.
Your apartment doesn’t look lived in for some reason it just looks like a hotel room
I filmed it when I first arrived. I didn’t want to film it messy. Doesn’t look as nice 🙏🥰
How is the language barrier ?
Well I speak a bit of Spanish so for me not so much. Depends on your level of Spanish I would guess, however, there are quite a few people that do speak English also
Hi, my girlfriend is from LaPaz neighborough Irpavi. We plan to move there but I am a bit concern with the altitude and the lack of oxygen. I would like to take my Dad too but he's 78 yo and already with blood circulation problems so I don't know... How is your own experience related to the altitude and the lack of oxygene?
I have to be honest, I noticed it as I was out of breath often. Not so sure I would take your dad.
You will get used to altitude.
You can choose another beautiful cities like Sucre, Tarija or Santa Cruz. Those are lowland cities
How essy is it to get around not being able to speak Spanish?
Fairly easy if you speak English
I’m not sure why r h mentioning about big supermarket in U S … the good in U S is toxic I wouldn’t call it good ….I’m sure Bolivia is way better
I was comparing it to the US because thats where I came from.. The grocery store in La Paz was quite sufficient, just not neatly as large as the box box stores in the US
Can you flush toilet paper there, or is it like Mexico?
Yes, as a matter of fact you can! 🎉
Is it safe there? Kidnappings?
No kidnapping to my knowledge. I was in a very safe part of town called San Miguel. A Very nice area..
Nice video, but blurry on the eyes 👀!¡
Apologies.. it's clear on my end an no one else has complained about clarity.. Strange...
Visit this city before retireing here. It is not for everyone. He failed to mention the many reasons you will not like it.
What reasons? Can you share?
Hello! We are also planning to move to Bolivia. It would be very interesting to talk with you. Do you have WhatApp?
Yes I do!
Panama is cheaper for real.
You won't get that apartment for short term for $400 in Panama. It would be closer to $1k.
I'm very glad that you have it! If you don't mind chatting, please leave your number so I can contact you...
