    Although "Silver Springs" was written and recorded back in 1976 by Stevie Nicks and was intended to be included on 'Fleetwood Mac's' huge commercial success and international smash release of their 'Rumours' album from 1977; but the song was pressed and became as the B-side of their first U.S. single "Go Your Own Way". "Silver Springs" finally received airplay about 20 years later in '97 as a live version." Gold Dust Woman" a track from the 'Rumours' album written and sung by Stevie Nicks is smokin' hot and worth checking out. 🔍🎤🎸🎹🥁🔊🔥☮🎧

    In the 70's, EVERYONE was a fan of Fleetwood Mac. Their music was able to cross genres and appealed to all audiences, as well as being musically excellent. This was one of several incarnations of FM, which started as a British blues band in the 60's. They had several different lead guitarists who each put their stamp on the band, and all of their previous music was excellent as well. In the 70's, they were auditioning for a new lead guitarist, and Lindsay Buckingham came in. They loved him and wanted him to join, but he said that he would only join if his girlfriend, Stevie Nicks, could also join. She and Christine McVie hit it off, and the rest is history. Buckingham and Nicks had an album out called "Buckingham Nicks" which failed commercially at the time, but is hailed as a masterpiece more recently. Both are singer/songwriters, and along with Christine's writing and singing, that version of FM was just a magical mix of talent. Although personally sad, the affairs and breakups within the group drove the writing and passionate performances for which they became known (also cocaine, as was the fashion at the time). Deep rabbit hole, both before and after Buckingham and Nicks joined.

    I believe Polo just experienced a Mac attack. This band hand has to be one of, if not THE most professional group of musicians ever. Experiencing their sound live in concert is pure perfection. Most people never realize just how good of a guitar player Lindsey Buckingham really is until they see him perform live. He is a true guitar virtuoso.
    So many hits, ya just gotta hear them all. RIP Ms. Perfect

  • @DavidEveritt74
    @DavidEveritt74 Місяць тому +43

    Virtually every song on Rumours addressed the breakups going on within the band; Christine McVie splitting up with John McVie (for the band’s lighting guy. “You Make Loving Fun” is about that), and Stevie Nicks spitting up with Lindsey Buckingham. Great writing throughout.

    • @caps689
      @caps689 Місяць тому +2

      Christine left John because he was a mean alcoholic. Both had affairs but Curry the lighting guy was after they separated and John was with his secretary. Still, she did lie about YMLF and told John (with his killer base parts) it was about her dog. 🤣

    • @cassianfalkener3706
      @cassianfalkener3706 Місяць тому +2

      Yeah, Christine and Lindsey took turns with Stevie and each other on lead vocals, and their ability to harmonize with each other was always subtle until I saw it pointed out on the Rumours documentary.
      And sadly, it wasn't just weed. Stevie Nicks acknowledged the cocaine use in the same documentary.
      I prefer listening to studio versions first, most of the time. Now, a reaction to the live version will give new appreciation for the song and possibly answer some of the questions Polo had. Different people will point to different songs from this band, and with a double album called "The Very Best of...", you can set aside Led Zeppelin, Tool, Queen, and Pink Floyd for a couple of months and continue to regularly discover legendary music from a legendary band.
      Also, Big Love (live) from The Dance. An important exception to the "studio version first" rule.

    There are so many sides to Fleetwood Mac. In this incarnation, you had three songwriters in the band (Stevie Nicks, who sang this song, wrote so many others and sang backup on the other two people's songs), Christine McVie (she played piano, wrote and sang solo and backup), and Lindsey Buckingham (guitarist, lead and backup singer, writer and arranger/producer extraordinaire). You won't regret going down the Fleetwood Mac rabbit hole.

Peter showed his absolute lack of ego by naming his band after the drummer Mick FLEETWOOD and the bass guitarist John Mc(MAC)Vie. The whole album is legendary, as is the lead singer (Stevie Nicks.) Many would rate it as the best album released in the 1970s. The song was written while the Stevie Nicks was traveling through Silver Springs, Maryland. It's about the defunct relationship between Stevie Nicks and the band's lead guitarist (Lyndsey Buckingham.) You can see both of them reacting to each other over the lyrics in the live version. Epic! Note that the song was left off of the album when it was released in 1977. "Silver Springs" was released as a single in the 1990s, and then added to digitally re-mastered versions of the album (Rumours) much later. I have the song on DVD-Audio (very high fidelity.) So, if you buy the album, make sure it has this song on it.
    You'll very probably be adding every song on this album to your playlist. To get the same experience we got back in 1977, listen to the songs in album order.

    When you do any Fleetwood Mac (including this song) you should check out live versions from "The Dance" concert. This song is about real life events. Stevie Nicks (singer here) and Lindsay Buckingham (guitarist here) had a tumultuous relationship over time. In "The Dance" version Stevie is screaming at Lindsay near the end of the song. There are stories she sometimes collapsed on stage and couldn't finish the song. A lot of Fleetwood Mac songs are "instant classics".

    Omg Polo, you are in for a treat with Fleetwood Mac! You will soon love the grit & stunning voice that is predominantly Stevie Nicks, but also Christine McVie. Enjoy the ride. You started with an amazing tune! My favourite song. This was written by Stevie Nicks about her ex partner Lesley Buckingham who is playing guitar! I could bang on for hours, but I’ll spare you that. Need to try, The Chain, Dreams, Little Lies, Rhiannon and Songbird, just to name a few! Cant wait for all the reactions!❤

    Lindsey Buckingham is one of the most underrated guitarists out there with his self taught finger plucking style. Fleetwood Mac has been a huge band for so long, you’re going to love exploring their music. The Rumors album is pure gold, despite all the relationship issues between band members. The band has multiple talented song writers and all of them talented musicians. Enjoy your journey!

      @@garyarnett1220 Thanks for pointing that out. I already knew Christine was one of Mac's main contributors of the group. I should have used the pronoun "One" (of) in my comment. At any rate, I was referring only to Stevie regarding her song that I was suggesting. It's sad that Christine met her demise about a year and a half ago. R.I.P. "Save Me" written and sung by Christine from Fleetwood Mac's 'Behind the Mask" album released later in their career back in 1990 is one my favorites. 😎👌🥂

I've noticed there are several UA-camrs who do a tad bit of research and a little homework before they react to a recording artist and their song for the first time on their channel. I think that would be a good idea for many more of those who upload songs to consider of doing the same. 🔍🔎That way, they won't be uninformed and unprepared and taken by surprise. There were two distinctly different "Fleetwood Mac's" --the first, when the band was first formed by guitarist and lead vocalist, Peter Green in 1967, with Mick Fleetwood on drums singer, Jeremy Spencer, and John McVie on bass, and Christine Perfect (who married John McVie and officially joined the band in 1970) and the second, with Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. The band that most of the world relates to when they hear the name, Fleetwood Mac, is the second version. BOTH were great bands. If you want to hear a fantastic album--one that initially bombed, amazingly enough--listen to the 1973 release of "Buckingham Nicks." From beginning to end, it is a fantastic album. Some of the music on this album was later released on subsequent Fleetwood Mac albums. For reasons only known to The Powers That Be, it was never really promoted, or released to CD (although bootleg versions are being sold). It is an amazing album!
    One of the most popular hits of the Peter Green years is, "Oh, Well--parts 1 and 2." Those two pieces, in and of themselves, are radically different, and show the real depth of musical talent of that group.

    Mr. Polo, you’ve dipped your toe into a well that goes very deep. Fleetwood Mac was formed in 1967 and was originally a blues/rock band. The band is named for Mick Fleetwood (drums) and John McVie (bass). I know that you generally don’t like blues much, but songs that you may like from this era are Oh Well and The Green Manalishi. It’s worth noting that the Santana hit Black Magic Woman was originally done by Fleetwood Mac during their blues era.
    After the departure of their lead singer/sonwriter Peter Green, the hired Bob Welch (vocals/guitar) and Christine Perfect (vocals/keyboards). Not long after she joined the band, Christine married bassist/founder John McVie. This lineup was definitely not a blues band, but more pop. Some songs you’d appreciate from this era are Sentimental Lady, Bare Trees, and Hypnotized. Bob Welch left the band and Fleetwood Mac hired the duo Buckingham Nicks: Lindsay Buckingham (vocals/guitar) and Stevie Nicks (vocals). This is the most successful lineup of the band which now had 3 lead vocalists (Lindsay, Stevie, and Christine) and powerhouse songwriters. Rhiannon, World Turning, and Say You Love Me are 3 hits from the first album with this lineup which features each of the 3 vocalists. The second album by this lineup is titled Rumours and is probably their biggest selling album. Every song on it was a hit, but you should check out The Chain, Dreams, and Don’t Stop. They released a handful of albums after Rumours, but had only a few hit songs. This band was great in each of their phases, and I highly recommend listening to the examples I’ve suggested to get a grasp on what this band was really about.
