Stevie was channelling her emotions from the breakup from many years ago. Her and Lindsay are true pros and have remained friends despite their history.

Stevie channeled something. She cursed Lindsey in this version. You can see it in her eyes...and I felt it. I love Fleetwood but we did see a spell being cast.

This song was Stevie’s response to “Go Your Own Way”, a song that lays the blame for the break up Stevie and Lindsey on Stevie. It was suddenly dropped for time and replaced with another Stevie song. Lindsey had taken musical direction of the band over. It was the one song to be dropped for “time.” There are many songs on this album that are mediocre. Silver springs wasn’t one of them. I’m pretty sure Lindsay didn’t want this song on the album. When it was released in 1997, it was nominated for a Grammy for best life performance by a band or duo.
Stevie star power at that time gave her license to demand that the song that was put on the side of her former lovers only hit on the Rumours album would be sung in concert on national TV. She picks her moment to put it in his face. “You’ll never get away from the sound of the woman that loved you.”

Stevie Nicks (lead vocals) and Lyndsey Buckingham (guitarist) were in a romantic relationship when they were in the band together. She left the band and started a solo career after the breakup. this song is about the relationship and breakup. She was actually singing the lyrics directly to him. Hell hath no scorn!

From my understanding this is the first time this song was ever performed on stage since it was written in the 1970’s and then shelved until 1997. It was a very raw performance and Stevie has said she loves the line “my voice will haunt you”. After people heard it it went on to win awards and the recognition it deserved.

This song was recorded during the Rumours sessions. It supposedly didn’t fit on the LP because of length, so it was the B-side of “Go Your Own Way.” The Dance concert in 1997 revived this song. John McVie is one of the best bass players ever. Pay attention to what he does.

It was supposed to be on Rumours but it was taken off at last minute due to lack of space on the album. She only did this tour because she could sign Silver Springs.

Yes it was dropped from Rumours originally but is now on the remastered Rumours album. When Stevie went solo, she called Mick to get the rights to the song back and he said “no.” When they were asked to play a concert on MTV. The night they played live, is in this video…she sang 20 years of pent up emotion directed at him. The performance received a standing ovation 👏

Stevie is re-living here the pain that made her write this song in the 1970s when she and Lindsay Buckingham broke up. Despite the breakup, Stevie and Lindsay remained in the band. Btw, Stevie had an affair with the drummer, Mick Fleetwood. The other 2 bandmembers, Christine McVie, piano (who died recently) and John McVie (bass) were married. They broke up about the same time that Stevie and Lindsay broke up. Rumors was about all this turmoil.

After her call out, there was a moment towards the end, where she opens her eyes, and remembers where she's at. Its where she refocused back at the audience. THIS performance was similar to what they did in the 70s and 80s. They were amazing live. The drama was there a lot. This wasn't even the most extreme. The Chain live from 1982, is another epic one, where they yell back and forth at each other.

This song is so beautifully done - from Christie McVie's gorgeous keyboard playing to Mick Fleetwood's great drumming and Lindsey's guitar playing - Stevie's vocals and their harmonizing - just all the way around perfection. You will love their live performance back in 1976 on the Midnight Special show doing "Rhiannon" - check it out. Her vocals are nasty and you'll see a young Lindsey with his afro and 70's clothes playing the hell out of his guitar again.

I'm cruising in a few month behind the pack but, there is so much of a story with "Fleetwood Mac" it would take awhile. They hit big when I was 9 yrs old and, I simply grew up with them and so many great ones. I'll lead you to a door or two. It is up to you both to open them yes, ok? First, if you have not yet, "The Midnight Special" 1976- "Rhiannon" Live. I remember that Saturday Night, when "Fleetwood Mac" re-introduced themselves from "Blue Grass" to "Rock" and of course the first live performance with "Nicks & Buckingham" Stevie Nicks cuts loose at the end. Moving on, Stevie Nicks & Mick Fleetwood also had a serious relationship that ended with affairs. Stevie Nicks would later date "Don Henley" drummer/singer for the "Eagles. They also made a record together. But, her greatest love was/is, "Joe Walsh" guitarists for the "Eagles". Whom, like Stevie would go on to a solo career. Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty made one of the greatest tunes, "Stop Dragging My Hear t Around. Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham also, worked on, "Walter Egan's" album resulting in "Walter" falling in love with Stevie, many did, he wrote the fabulous tune, "Magnet & Steel" which Stevie does back up vocals on the album. Stevie Nicks has worked with everyone including, "Prince" Happy "Fleetwood Mac" trail to ya. Peace

I don't know if you guys will ever see this but I am a huge Fleetwood Mac fan and I just recently watched a documentary that held a couple of tidbits in it that even I've never seen before (which after twenty five years of seeing every documentary there is on this band....that's doing something) including Stevie talking about how she apparently tried to strangle Lindsey in 1987 when he said he was leaving the band (apparently they saved all the real juicy stuff for the BBC....or Stevie was just in a mood...lmao). Here's a link to it: ua-cam.com/video/XY9QTbexQrY/v-deo.html
Now for some background on this particular show.... This was the first time they performed together with Lindsey since he left ten years earlier. There was a tour that followed this show and on that tour, Stevie has made no secret of the fact that she and Lindsey could not keep their hands off of one another the whole tour. Judging by a couple of songs she wrote later, if I had to guess, some apologies were exchanged and maybe some promises were made....there was just one issue. Lindsey's eventual wife was expecting their first kid. At the end of that tour, according to Stevie, they were coming home and she said she just stopped and looked at him and said something to the effect of, "You have a kid coming." and he was like "Yeah." and she said "This is really over this time." and he said "Yeah". However, as you will see in that documentary (which is about fifteen years old because she says something about being 75 in 15 years and she is 75 now), toward the end Stevie says, "Lindsey and I will never be touchy feely friends. Talk to me in fifteen years when I'm seventy five and his kids are all grown up and maybe we will try again." Now, what makes that statement a little more interesting is that in 2021 when Lindsey's youngest was almost 18, and three years after they legally kicked him out of the band because he was trying to stop them from going on tour to try to get one over on Stevie and she said she was leaving the band and, probably because he was the one trying to pull rank on literally the whole band, they kicked Lindsey out, he was supposed to go back on tour with the band (Which should have surprised absolutely no one. They only legally kicked him out because of him talking to lawyers trying to stop the tour they wanted to do....he left them no choice. But that never meant he couldn't come back. I am sure even he knew that.) and just after Mick started talking about Lindsey going back on the road with them, Lindsey's wife filed for divorce. The tour has yet to happen (And probably never will now that Christine has passed away). And Lindsey's wife has yet to finish divorcing him. 🤷‍♀ Those two things could be totally unrelated....but that's a hell of a coincidence if you ask me. Here's a documentary they made during the rehearsal from the show this version of Silver Springs came from. At one point the interviewer asks if it took a lot of talking to get them all back together and Stevie, with a grin, replies, "No....not talking....we didn't talk..." and you can hear Lindsey whisper in Stevie's ear with a grin of his own "We're still not talking...." As if to say that it wasn't talking they were getting up to...lmao ua-cam.com/video/kFy7I8rGuMk/v-deo.html
Another good live moment with them that was more sweet and less "they are going to rip one another's clothes off or start a fist fight on stage if they don't get away from each other" is this version of Landslide from 2004 where she dedicates the song to Lindsey for the first time (she always admitted she wrote it about him but her dad thought she wrote it for her parents because of the lyric about "children get older and I'm getting older too" so she would always dedicate it to her dad on stage). ua-cam.com/video/sMVBP_0OOZY/v-deo.html
Anyway, that documentary is a good place to start for learning about the band's history, including stories they don't normally tell. The rehearsal for this show sort of...I don't know....shows how it ended up being this intense. lol And that version of Landslide is another good Stevie and Lindsey moment just in case you do happen to see this.

    • @lestatsluv317
      @lestatsluv317 10 місяців тому

Oh! This is a pretty good one too. That little lyric Stevie sings at the very beginning is a Buckingham Nicks song from the album they recorded before Fleetwood Mac. Anyway, this is a song Lindsey wrote Stevie when he left the Fleetwood Mac in '87 but it wasn't put on an album until they got back together and did the album Say You Will in 2003: ua-cam.com/video/-exHBjy3Egw/v-deo.html
Also, this is a really honest interview with Stevie by herself for Oprah's Masterclass and she, of course, talks about Lindsey and their meeting and all of that going through the years: ua-cam.com/video/fuasHiDQT7Q/v-deo.html

Silver Springs was written by Stevie Nicks for the Rumours album in 1977. Because of time constraints, Silver Springs was left off the album and relegated to the B-Side of Lindsey Buckingham’s hit Go Your Own Way. FM was started by Mick Fleetwood and John McVie in 1967. Christine McVie née Perfect (1943-2022) married John McVie in 1968 and joined FM in 1970. After the loss of their lead guitarist in 1974, Mick heard a recording of Lindsey’s guitar playing from the 1973 Buckingham Nicks debut album and asked to meet him New Year’s Eve 1974 at a Mexican restaurant. They found out that Lindsey and Stevie were a package deal. After meeting Stevie and finding out that she was a singer/songwriter in her own right, the pair were asked to join. The five members became the most commercially successful members of FM.
This is how long the members were in the band:
    Mick Fleetwood (1967-2022)
    John McVie
    (1967-2022)
    Christine McVie
(1970-1998, rejoined from 2013-her death in 2022 at age 79, toured with FM from 1970-1998, then from 2014-2019)
    Stevie Nicks
    (1974-1990, rejoined in 1997 until 2022 {Christine’s death} toured with FM from 1975-1990 and from 1997-2019)
Lindsey Buckingham (1974-1987, then from 1997-2018).

Christine McVie and John McVie (the bass player) were married at one point. Mic Fleetwood ( drummer) , Christine and John were the long standing members. Stevie and Lindsey came into the band in 1975 which was the catalyst for the band to become the super group that it became. Stevie and Lindsey were a couple when they came into the band in 75 and they had a tumultuous relationship. A few years later in 1977 they broke up and that break up brought about the album Rumours.

I've been watching this live version for 25 years and it always moves me. They've tried to replic see the the same performance on future live versions, but it was never as good as this version.
As far as the song, it was written for Rumours, but it was cut to make room for another song. I don't think it was played live prior to this. In the early 90s before the reunion. Ale wanted to put this song on her box set since it was never released, but Mick refused to, and that caused some tension between them. And Mick was who she was messing around with during her break up with Lindsey. The whole story is crazy. Enjoy the deep dive!

In 1967, Peter Green formed the group as a blues band. The first to join was bassist, John McVie. Green named the band Fleetwood Mac in an effort to get Mick Fleetwood to join. The strategy worked, so they had the core of the band. Green left the band several years later, followed by several other guitarists. During this time, Christine McVie (John's wife) joined the band on keyboards and vocals. ln late 1974 they brought Lindsey in to replace Bob Welch on guitar and vocals and Lindsey insisted that they take his girlfriend, Stevie Nicks, as part of the deal. So Lindsey is the reason that Stevie was in the band.😂
So John and Mick are the only constant members, and one hell of a rhythm section.

This version of FM had three lead singers/songwriters - Lindsey, Christine, Stevie. Christine preferred live to hang back with the rhythm section while Lindsey and Stevie were the front man/ woman
FM's last tour ended in 2019 (sans Lindsey who Stevie got fired). Their last album as a band was in 2017 that Stevie refused to contribute to so it was released as Buckingham /McVie - sadly and wrongly not as FM. Buckingham's last solo album was 2021 and he's recording his next. Both he and Stevie still tour as solo acts.

Buckingham/Nicks was the duo that joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975. 2 years later the Mick Fleetwood was getting a divorce, the bassist and keyboardist (John and Christine Mcvie)_were splitting and Stevie and Linsey split as well. They stayed together as a band to this day, with Linsey leaving to solo tour occasionally.

Stevie Nicks wrote that song in 1977. She wrote it for the Rumours album but Mic and Lindsey rejected the song for the album because they said it was too long and it would not fit in the album. Stevie was mad as heck about that and it caused a big rift between them. The song however was on the b side of one of the singles from Rumours. She later wanted to record the song for her 1981 solo album BELLADONNA but again Fleetwood Mac would not let her. Fleetwood Mac owned the rights to that song as she had written it for Fleetwood Mac. Again this was a huge problem between Stevie and the band. Finally she was abale to sing it here on the live album called The Dance in 1997. It was a hit from this live album.

She wanted the song for Time Space (1991). She could have re-recorded it with her own new arrangement & production but she wanted to use the FM version which belonged to Warner Brothers. Mick couldn't have given her the rights even if he wanted to and hadn't wanted to use it on The Chain (1992) box set. She said it's why she left the band after the 1990 Behind The Mask tour but she also said she should have left when Lindsey did. FM at that point wasn't helping her solo career which was also floundering at that point because of the Klonopin addiction.

Stevie and Lindsey were trying to get back together, while at the time he was dating, and she moved in with him. They were seeing each other, until she, I think her name is Christy? They were on tour, sleeping together trying to get each other back. His girlfriend calls Lindsey on tour, hey I'm pregnant. Then kind of killed their relationship, and now rumors were, still seeing Stevie on the sides. Now the deal breaker was later down the line, she pregnant again, and then Lindsey felt like he should marry his girlfriend since they were having a second child together. That's why when Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey came back to the band, Lindsey and Stevie were trying to get back together and see each other even when girlfriend Christy called pg, The whole relationship went to hell after 2sd pregnancy and marriage, he left Stevie hanging.

Check out the "golden age of MTV" classic music video they put out for the song "Hold Me", it has the dreamlike qualities of what music videos should be.
One question: WHAT is this "Mounain Dew" reference you're making about Fleetwood Mac??

Fleetwood Mac = Mick FLEETWOOD. John McVie = MACvie. Band founder Peter Green didn’t want his band named after himself, so he named his band for his drummer and bassist.

    Lindsey was really into country.
And she found out his girlfriend was pregnant during that tour.

They’ve been broken up for 20 years at this point and Lindsay is married to someone else.
I don’t think that wound is open at this time

Open enough that 5 years ago Stevie got him fired (at age 68!) in a rock band coup. One of her varying excuses/explanations was that she knew her dead parents who loved Lindsey would have told her it was time for a divorce... Stevie also said a year after this performance that she knew it was over when Lindsey had his first child in 1998 (22 years post official breakup...)

Taylor Swift writes whinny song about her ex’s. Stevie made her ex play guitar while she sung songs about what an asshole he was

They all experience breakups around the album Rumours. Stevie and Lindsay split. Christine and John split. And Mick split with his wife

It might be helpful to go read up on the history of a song before you react to them. The listening is an entirely different experience. Kind of like the Taylor Swift interviews before her live studio recordings of the Folkfore songs. You guys enjoyed that more having had some context. Do what you like, but that's just a suggestion.

@@WelpHereWeAreOnUA-cam I get it. Y'all are awesome. I know thousands of us were trying to tell you the full backstory through the screen as we watched this one. 😂 It's one of my favorite live performances of all time, and a big part of that is because of the story. A lot of bitterness surrounded this song because she wrote it, and it didn't make the album, but the song he wrote about their breakup "Go Your Own Way" did make the album. Silver Springs only made the B-side of the Go Your Own Way single in '77, but it wasn't until this live performance in '97 that the song became popular. You can see the pain that still exists 20 years after the end of the relationship. One of my favorite songs ever.
