- The newest Stellaris DLC 'Astral Planes' has been met with the largest amount of negative reviews both on steam and from personal friends who play the game I have ever seen, even when compared to other more devisive DLCs! With all that being said It Is time to delve into the rifts ourselves and make up our own mind on this new addition to Stellaris and see just how we can use these new Astral Planes for our own benefits.. for the good of the galaxy, of course.
Either way, It's good to be back in Stellaris!!

There is no possible way you can appreciate just how often and how well I fall asleep listening to you play Stellaris. It's a near Pavlovian situation by now.
As an insomniac I take that as the highest compliment. :)
I can’t fall asleep on the first watch, to interesting, but after that I love your voice and tone for calming the chatter brain.
me too hard to fall asleep
I second this. If there was a stat for rewatches, I'd like to see them for his full playthoughs
@@Lathland I dont know why it's specifically british people talking about space which helps me sleep so much, but you and SEA (general space content channel) are a lifesaver for me when it comes to going to sleep
Half an hour in, and Lathrix has let a demon posses his scientist. All is as it should be.
That's just how a PhD is normally, I think.
PhD is short for astral Plane host of Demon!@@l0rf
How else do you pass organic chemistry?
"It is not by chance alone that you have appeared here." "Indeed. I clicked and everything." Thank you Latherix! This made me laugh out loud, because in my mind I was thinking "Yeah, because that is how plots work". Moments like this are part of the reason why I watch!
3800 hours of stellaris ive only finished 1 game , might be my old computer or just the change of how much it takes to win these days. Still love the game
Same here. I havent finished a single game. Just starting a new game before endgame lag.
Same! My PC is still relatively modern but I've only pressed the big red button once. The last few decades of getting dark matter were painfully slow.
Ah yes, Endgame-Lag... the ultimate crisis. I think all the crisis factions are truly onto something.
In all my time I have never gotten to the endgame lag time because the game afther some time just decides that it doesn't want to continue and just crashes forever on that specific year
Best way to fix that issue is just to be a slow pop growth purifier species and burn the galaxy
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
I fell sorry for those few stations left behind by the scurge. They came to this galaxy to consume as many resources as they could before moving on to the next to get away from whatever it is that hunts them. And now they are stuck in a dead galaxy waiting for their end by either starvation or their pursuers who will also be equally screwed by the lack of resources in the galaxy.
Lathrix stopping the 25x scourge from killing the entire galaxy, while they hate him:
"WHY ARE YOU BOOING ME, I'M RIGHT?!"
There are definetely a lot of missed opportunities in this dlc, and it's too expensive, but tbh I love it. I am one of the few people who adores all the flavor text, and the astral rifts have so much of it, building upon the game's narrative and adding bits of lore. It is definetely just some text adventures, but really, really good ones which imo achieve their goal of expanding on mid to late game exploration. The art in them is outstanding too, bit of a spoiler but "The Black Sun" from the bleached planet is gorgeous.
I'm the exact same, the only criticism I have of this DLC is the price but the actual content it provides I absolutely love and the rifts while pretty much are archaeology sites, they provide a lot more interesting story things that archaeo sites don't
the bleached world rift crashed my game every time i tried to do it.
i just assumed it was a conflict with mods cuase i did have abit more this recent playthrough.
either way i did enjoy rifts.
@@endeyfire Yeah, probably had to do with the mods since I play vanilla and had no issues whatsoever
Uhh, that name is a bit concerning (black sun) given, _a certain fash symbol_ attached to that term
@@ThylineTheGay to be fair though it's an incredibly popular symbol and the name black sun is more if a descriptive that can't be helped because thats exactly what it is.
I imagine the SS also used other common symbols and emblems, their use was certainly the farthest thing from mind for me because it took me a good minute to even think of what you was talking about
Oh man i clicked on this quickly! Been waiting for a new lathrix stellaris vid for a while now, good stuff.
SAME!
I just wanted to point out that the center of the galaxy looks like a side profile of a head at 55:47 and I think that’s a pretty cool coincidence
Yeah, I see is too. The Warp Covenant territory looks like the Grinch. Glad I am not the only one seeing things, lol.
I was like, "where?" and then I spent 5 minutes rewinding to that point and then saw it
I despise you. Why.
For me it’s you, Pravus and LegendofTotalWar, that are my go to sleep hosts. Also, glad to see some more Stellaris, I honestly wasn’t super interested in the From the Depths gameplay, but since I didn’t get my Stellaris cravings filled, I found out I actually quite liked those playthroughs and binged all of them, too
All hail Steve, truly the biggest of the spiders.
4:05 charnels rest lmao. God "-45% ship build cost" Emperor will forever be in our hearts
Really enjoy this playthrough already. 20 min into it and i must say i love your narrating. Been a while since i last watched a Stellaris video. You are my chosen channel for this consumption. Much love. :)
Warplings are basically Cybrex warforms with less health and much less devastation.
Love Stellaris and your vids hope youtube has treated you well lately
Those weren't the unbidden, they were one of the two counter crysis factions that spawn if the unbidden are winning
Yes But they are not counter if the kill the unbidden then then kill you they are all fighting each other for the energy if your galaxy
The Unbidden is used as a Catch All term for that particular Endgame Crisis since that particular faction is easiest to say.
Warplings are on par with Cybrex Warforms. Definitely a heavy hitter.
Something cool. There’s now a way to get -100% empire size from pops.
yes, impactite is a real word, it's a type of metamorphic rock that is a result of compaction because of an impact, obviously.
Gotta give it to the man. He stayed awake for over a week straight to bring us this video. Mad props, man. ;)
Amazing is definitely a positive word for it. "Truly has a staggeringly greedy amount of dlc" also would work 😆
I feel so torn on the matter because Paradox is probably my favorite publisher due to the quality of their games. But on the other hand, the dlc could be half as much money and they'd still make absolute bank. Minecraft is run by _far_ bigger and _way_ more expensive teams lead by wasteful higher ups. Yet they still manage to put out free content after free content. And that free content attracts more and more people that buy the base game. I really don't know how to feel on the whole matter. Probably would be more at rest of Paradox wasn't burning goodwill to fuel their current business model and just put out quality instead.
Yep, this combines poorly with the recent 'release' of Star Trek Infinite, it's developing shall we say an unfortunate pattern.
I want to play HoI IV, Stellaris, and CK3 more, much more. But every month I delay, it seems another $20 DLC comes out and puts me one purchase further behind. I just don't want to spend this much money or support the practise of chopping up content releases that just broaden the gameplay without ever deepening it or addressing previously shallow mechanics.
@@l0rfWait for a big sale, or just buy Vanilla and download DLC
@@Wikarian99PL even at a big sale, that's still potentially two full priced games of DLC.
@@l0rfWell, I can't say about the other games, but a vast majority of DLC for Stellaris aren't strictly required.
To be able to play as all possible Empires, you need Synthetic Dawn, Utopia, and MegaCorp.
After that, the other DLC can be added at your leisure without massive hindrances to your gameplay.
It sounds like your speech therapy is going amazing man and I'm currently falling asleep to you lovely lulling voice. Thanks again space man
I love having these full play through videos on in the background while I play games myself
You know it's funny, I feel the way about the unbidden that Lathrix feels about the scourge. I've got over 1,000 hours in Stellaris and I've only fought the scourge twice. I swear for me it's almost always the unbidden that show up.
Jump drives are what I usually get to before crisis so yeh
The only guy who's videos I make a point of liking, so much effort must go into these
rift hunting is a very fun path to follow in this DLC
When I am turtling up, I prefer to build a gateway on the system behind the choke points. That way, even if the enemy captures the choke point, they can't transfer fleets there and I still can. Then I just build a hyper relay close to the gateway so my fleets move faster into the strong point.
hell yeah new full playthrough!
Thank you for more stellaris. I love your back stories and narration of your stories. I guess a few weeks ago the algorithm forgot to tell me you had a new stellaris video. Maybe because im not into from the depths.
After years i still love these long stellaris vids, cant get enough of them!
this episode was a true clusterfun of twists and events! 😂
Good you are back with Stellaris. Really missed it. On Astral planes, its the first dlc i didn't buy, not coz its bad content, but it is, as you said, barebones stuff. half the content for double the price, i wont buy it until its under €10. Even though it contains stuff i really want like the souveraign guardianship civic.
exactly my sentiment
@@tekalh7647 piracy my boys
Seriously the only youtuber that can help me get to sleep and then keep me fully engaged when i wake up.
Commenting because Lath is alive. Thanks for more Stellaris
ALWAYS LOVE THE STELLARIS CONTENT ME NEED MOREEEEEEEEEEE (yes ive watched like more then half the current stellaris content on the channel
Wow, they really took a lot of inspiration from Warhammer 40k. Not a bad thing, just wasn't really expecting it.
The space alien that represents a fundamental aspect of reality = C'tan
The living planets = Daemon worlds
The psychic hermit = Eldar Farseer
The pulling, corrupting whispers the Farseer was hearing from the shroud = Chaos Gods
The astral tears = Warp rifts or webway gates
I suppose it's kind of fitting since stellaris already has a lot that seems to have been inspired by 40k already.
Stellaris is influenced by pretty much every sci fi story ever.
you know those are all just common scifi tropes right
Normally I'm not as much a fan of stellaris videos as I'm here for ftd content and more building focused games, but I'm still going to like and comment because lathrix is my favourite UA-camr and want to see him continue to make videos that he wants to make, whatever they may be keep at it man I love your stuff
Ive been waiting for stellaris for months! Finally i can have a proper sleep, love your videos
Paradox would not havr gotten as many negatives has they stuck to what they claimed the pricing structure was supposed to be. A story pack for the price of a full exoantion was a very bad idea imo.
26:02 The lack of a second option could be caused by a bug or you simply don't have the necessary technology unlocked.
Love these full playthrough videos! More please!!
Also, if you would enjoy making the content of course, I’d love to see you doing a FTD playthrough with sail ships. Admittedly I don’t know how doable that is, but it seems cool
Lanthrix: defends the galaxy against the endgame crisis
Also lanthrix: is being attacked by the galaxy for being an endgame crisis
Understandable, have a nice day.
Well Lathrix knows he can't actually be the Endgame Crisis if there's another Endgame Crisis that's already destroying the Galaxy.
Lathrix must be the one who destroys the Galaxy.
Not some other guy.
For the lathrixian algorithm!
Wooo long form Stellaris! Love listening to these on my way to work. Obligatory: Stellaris is content I’d like to see more of in the future.
I don't have as much time to game as I used to, love your Stellaris videos. Thanks for making!
I played a game with the mega corp equivalent of sovereign guardianship with a clone army origin. It was a good experience but defiantly felt weird as someone who generally plays more wise than tall.
The rifts look like archeology sites in a new coat of paint... though the fact the center of the galaxy is now a thing is pretty neat (and I wonder how gigastructures deals with that)
Lathrix is back with Stellaria! A delight!
Am i the only one that rewatched this 3 times? I feel asleep like 5 times trying yo watch this
I was waiting for this/your view on the DLC!
Space!
Love this playthrough. Wonder what it would be lime if you played the actual galactic guardian with a few more of the astral worlds mechanics... Thank for the making!
New Lathrix Stellaris video? Brilliant.
I've been missing your Stellaris videos recently.
One last internet round before going to bed, and a stellaris video drops.
Gonna sleep well today ❤
And now for an actual watch of thee video. Good morning
For the Rift!
Man have I missed Stellaris on your channel (it's the only game you play that I watch, sorry). I keep searching for people doing stuff like this, full playthroughs, but there are just none to be found. So please don't stop!
honestly i just want a video made purely of outtakes
I love the AI... Massive galaxy spanning threat is devouring all life in its path on one side while another empire is consuming stars to fuel a galaxy ending weapon? L-Gate opening party at 5:00 PM that WILL NOT be delayed come if you aren't square.
"Patrick I don't think this could get any worse!"
"Nonsense!"
At least the latter Crisis (Star Consumer) is at least helping the Galaxy fight the former Crisis (Life Devourer).
Can’t wait to watch this!!
OH FUCK OH SHIT NEW LATHLAND STELLARIS VIDEO FINALLY REAL?????
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE GOOD FOOD SIR
I love these playthroughs... thank you
While i have had a bit of fun with the new dlc, it's far too expensive for what it adds. That on top of the fact that it was probably the buggiest release I've seen for Stellaris yet(and that is saying something). They've mostly got it under control now, but it's still a bit of a mess
I havent had my pc in the last 5 months but i still bought the dlc. This is the first im actually seeing of it, and everyone else be damned im hyped for it
Hi Lath! I’m 90% sure that you did not need to actually purge the pops! You could have assimilated them into your robot form and still get points! So you could just get a lot of migration treaty’s then assimilate them then boom! Massive boost!
In the first Rift that was just coincidence. I have had militarists and spiritualist also ...as a machine intelligence.
So finally watched the whole thing.... your vids always do well, honestly I miss your episodic stelaris runs(if that let's ya know how long I've been watching) and from the depths campaign runs. I bet the dlc has a ton of stuff that is running in the backround but I think some of the balance patches were prolly for the best. But then again I almost feel cybernetics is becoming op again.
Always a great day when Lathrix uploads, hope you are doing well, mate!
I realy liked the roleplay series you did before could you do another one for stellaris?
I wonder what Grand Collector Thorn of the Cash Cacti would think of inter-dimensional travel
Commenting so Lathland can afford future DLCs haha
astral rifts are fine really. Honestly bought it specifically for sovereign guardianship so I can play around with it in gigastructural engineering mod.
Yes! Another Lathrix Stellaris playthrough! Now what is it... Aha! Stellaris is a series that I wish to see continued. One comment for the algorithm!
Welcome back to the galaxy admiral
Love lath’s Stellaris videos
Seems Astral Planes is good with the new resource and two different combat units and paragon!!
Is there always this much reading in Lathrix’s playthroughs? Feels like a lot more than usual
Oh this is WAY more than usual. The DLC is themed around the rifts which are very lore/event/reading heavy. Wasn't really a good way around that without skipping them too much!
@@Lathland Totally understandable!
All hail the algorithm. May it long forgive the full playthrough.
Yay more Stellaris!!
Great video as always!
The last few scourge will eat each other and grow, so in the end they will own the galaxy.
a video to listen to at work for a stilarus dlc I will buy when its 50%off
I know I’m late to the party, but would love to see a recent in depth playthru where you explain your clicks.
Heyo, do you think it‘d be possible to upload a video where you also show how you build up your economy? :)
You spiral so hard out of control that I am always confused how you reach those big numbers.
Especially research and unity haha
Please do a from the depths but build a battleship Yamato from star blazers with huge particle cannon “wave motion gun” that would be dope
Love these as always you do an amazing job
why call it a full Playthrough when in fact you make cuts? would love to see the actual full one, the city/empire management and tasks are interesting to see as you progress
You do know a full un edited video would be absolutely humongous the only way of doing something like that is doing hour long videos in a series and as he used to say these types of videos can be cancer for a channel therefore can u imagine what having an actual running series in the same format would be stage 4 leukemia
@@connorrobinson6510 why tho?
@@connorrobinson6510He can just make a secondary channel with full playthrough like a lot of content creator. He has to record everything anyway so it cost nothing.
I love it when lathrix destroys the universe it's my favorite thing he does
"Felt cute, might destroy the universe later."
SPACE
A covenant huh? Better hope that Master Chief don't come knocking.
"I want to posses your scientist, maybe his mind will be eradicated. Ok?"... 90% of Stellaris Players: Sure, why not!🤣
at 1:05:00, the center of the galaxy looks like a head with the formless inside
screw the math exam, there's a new lathrix video
I love how the center of the galaxy looks like a persons head 1:05:34
I don’t like this dlc but I do play with it, it has so many flaws with a couple quality of life changes. And spoilers but that system that spawns because of the rifts smacked right down in the middle of my tall build you can’t get to the system from hyper lanes.
Edit: I was using birch world gigastructure mod origin.
Yes, we do love you.
So a crisis showdown, where various different groups decide to make themselves a problem. Now if the stagnant ascendancies could have still awakened and perhaps something else happen at the same time, then the chaos would have been even greater.
Now that I've finished the video, i would say that its not _just_ a lack of content for the price, though that is 100% true, it's the fact that there still seem to be quite a few bugs, misspellings/wrong words. It's nothing OVERLY egregious.. but it's enough to make it feel particularly unpolished. Almost like it was rushed, to obtain that "Once every year Stellaris DLC release". I'll take quality over quantity in my Stellaris any day.
