i picked up the 2018 ATAS last June. Coming from a much more powerful Yamaha MT10. I really love everything about it, Its powerful enough without being dangerously powerful. MPGs are amazing, it can go pretty much anywhere and do anything, its comfortable to ride. Brilliant bike.
Really? I’m so confused. I’ve had my 2019 ATAS since it was new after coming from a Concours 14. I’m putting it up for sale in a few days because to me it just was so little value for the money. 2/10 highway 8/10 twisties 4/10 comfort 10/10 dirt 3/10 features 5/10 overall
To add to that, it needs another gear, terrible wind protection (went through a lot of set ups trying to help with the wind) the bike gets blown around so much, the suspension is so excellent off road, and in the twisties, but the dive is terrible. it’s way way too tall (I’m 6’1”) It comes with nothing from the factory, and I paid thousands stiffening up and adding racks and panniers, no quick shifter, very underpowered for the price. Stock tires when new were terrible for off-road.
Basically to summarize this bike in my experience is just to figure in the protection and panniers to the cost from the get-go, know that it will be very underpowered, uncomfortable, and lacking cruise control. The 16-19 with no cruise control personally to me is worth 7k on the used market. Not 13k or more like a lot of them are priced.
@@adammfharris the only problems I could imagine is if you do a lot of highway and want to be able to easily do 120+ it’s just not gona do that. And if you’re short it’s basically impossible.
I own the 2017 AT and the 2021 ATAS. Love them both. Both DCT. I am configuring my ‘17 with an off-road bias with aftermarket exhaust, front fender and crash bars. Going with Motoz Tractionators. Nice review!
I have the AT 1000 AS 2018 and I came in dirty roads with river crossings. I tried the AT 1100 and I think it's more BMW GS oriented, less off road orientated than my one. I will not change the 2018 Adventure Sports for other ATs...
Thanks for the comparison. Been researching like crazy on thses bikes and pretty sold on the ATAS. Being 6'2 i think it would suite me better, not really worried too much about the weight of it.
Hello. Liked and subscribed. I too have had several of these in all the configurations you mentioned. All great bikes. I'm looking at a new 2024 model now in the base version and it comes with the 21" front wheel. Regarding that: why did you go 21" front wheel if you are keeping your new bike as mostly a street bike? Don't you find limitations on the 21" for street riding such as perhaps tire life, tire choice, handling, etc? Just curious because I am thinking too about keeping my new one if I get it as a street and gravel bike and can't see needing a 21. My only reason for getting a 21" version would be I don't care for the Adventure Sports version with the 19" front. I had an AS and it was big and heavy and DCT. They are pushing the AS version with DCT here in the states. Also the AS version is almost 5k more expensive here.
Excellent review my friend. The more you ride on both models or the heavy one, better the balance you will get in no time. And expose once in a while to some easy off road, will sharpen your handling skills.
no reasons to get the 2020+ models yet ,corona just keeps me ride close to home my crf1000 bleu have to hit the 3000 odo km first ,hope to go to alps 2022 and ride that thing (hopefully with a quickshifter fitted)
Best comparison so far. Now the question of all questions Standart or Aventure ? For a 60kg, 175cm Guy i consider the 2020 Standart since the Adventure is more heavy but comes with better wind/weather protection
wonderful review! thanks alot. One question please, how does it feel in town ? especially in traffic, I have heard that it feels very heavy and its difficult to manouver it. I am talking about the new model that i am thinking of buying.
Great video! Great bikes! 😎👍 one question please..is it possible to achive 4L/100km consumtion in 6 gear rain mode..relax solo ride without the panniers at 80kmh constant speed on the open flat nice asphalt road?? I m 179 100kg.....I m asking about 2020 model
Hi Jose. You are right the bike you mention would have been a closer comparison. Unfortunately I have not ridden the 2019l so I can’t share my experience with you. I have experience with the standard 2016 model so maybe I can compare the 2016 and 2020 model next

congrats on owning the bike. Really enjoy what you are sharing here
one of best crisp , to the point comparison ! experience matters.. kudos
Nice video, I do have the 2019 ATAS model and it's perfect for me. Also not using it that much in dirt due to it being heavy.
Thank you, i have the 1100, it is perfect but a bit heavy
Hi Daniel. Thanks for your comment. You are right, a drop in weight would have made it better and more manageable in tricky situations.
How much is the bikes price @daniel fahrni

@@adammfharris I said that, based on my experience, the AT AS 2018 is more off-road oriented compared with the 1100 series.

What your opinion would have been between the 2019 1000l vs the 2020 1100l.? That would be a closer bike to compare with. Much closer in weight.

What skidplate is that? 😊
The atas has a B&b Dakar bash plate. It protect very well and don’t transfer engine noise to the rider. I can recommend it.
