There are early sketches by the mangaka that show he originally conceived her as a teenager; it'll be fantastic to see how she turns out by then.

"Chihuahua is power?" thats why there is chihuahua image there. with muscle. anya, as a kid, only can think simple stuff and stuff that she really knows. she don't know about "knowledge is power" stuff because she never experienced that much bout this knowledge power thing. and also, it does sound like chiwawa. "CHI WA CHIKARA" man the man who handle the sub not understanding the meaning that well...
Not 100% sure about this show but often these days the subtitles are just the dub script which is only concerned with matching the visuals. It feels like that here, they tried get as close as possible to the dog visual with a leash pun.
It’s not a matter of them not understanding the meaning. It’s just the way translation works. The chihuahua pun makes sense only in Japanese, so to translate it into English in such a way that the dog visual also makes sense - some creativity is needed. And imo, the result is amazing.
