It definitely has fan service, and episode 2 is probably the biggest example of it, but I was surprised at how wholesome the show was overall in the end
You understand the story a lot more when you realize that Marin is the self-insert character and Wakana is her idealized man, and not the other way around.
I kind of view the dangers in my heart author the same because she is herself very attractive and does write very well from her own experiences as well as being a talented artist who loves drawing girls lol
I've seen pictures of the main girl, Marin, before but never knew what series she was from until now, that is. Good intro episode. It seems like a sweet and endearing premise.
Who complained about this show?!?🤣😂Wtf are people on now😂This show came out of no where and was hella cute never in life did I think I would like a show like this🤣
They pretty clearly point out why some may feel uncomfortable with the show and followers who know the streamers taste are pretty spot on. You make it sound surprising or unreasonable. It's HS kids, so the fanservice and sexualizing feels REALLY weird. Like they said and explained. Stuff like the upskirt in this episode is 100% unnecessary, just like they said. You can see their "WTF" faces. And the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope can be pandering/sexist depending on how it's done and subjective opinions. Doesn't mean people can't not mind those things or not like it, but it's weird to try to belittle someone else for having different standards/expectations/wants from their entertainment.
Wow. They really had no faith in the quality of this seriee, huh? One of the best romantic comedies yet, and they sound like they expect it to be oppai jokes and pantyshots. 😂😂😂🎉
I have no idea who "warned" you, but they did you a disservice. Glad you've finally watched it. I think my biggest issue is that people gave you an impression of the show before you went into it, and now it has to "beat the allegations" so that taints the reaction experience.
for some reason, it always makes me feel better that the author is a woman. I know it doesn't change anything really lol, but it makes me feel a bit better. And the fact that Marin is just so confident with herself I think it fits her. Though i can't say that about two other characters...
It's definitely a fair debate to have on fanservice in this one. On one hand, the "gaze" here is mostly diegetic to the characters' point of view here and feels refreshingly more authentic than how other shows do fanservice, but on the other, it's still being delivered to/for we-the-audience.
That's a nice surpise, I love this show! Hope you love it too. And as opposed to many people, I don't love it besides the fan service, I love it with it! This show had my favorite male and female leads on a romance anime, plus I love cosplay too so this anime is great for me, though it's always dissapointing seeing people being so negative on the fan service aspect of the show. But folks can't help if it makes 'em uncomfortable, that's fine even if it's a shame.
Im amazed this won lol i was in the trenches of the comment wars about this. Its like someone posted the poll somewhere, and people joined just to vote for it. I hope you guys like it. R.i.p This show slot for a bit ✌️ i may give it another try with em i guess
This anime definitely has a ton of fan service, especially early on. The manga mostly drops the fan service after it started getting popular though. By chapter 40 it's much more focused on the character drama and character development. The fan service in the early part of the manga is basically just there to draw in readership. This is a seinen manga series as well. So it's target audience is basically college age guys. Honestly, they really could have just set this in their first year of college and it would be basically the same story. The manga is really good though. This season ended at chapter 39 of the manga and there's currently 109 chapters, so hopefully they make a second season that's 24 episodes honestly. Since if it's only 12 episodes not much is going to happen besides Gojo learning to have more self confidence. And lots of cosplaying. This series is extremely cosplay focused other than the romantic comedy part.
The fanservice is here mostly in the beginning, to find his audience. But after that this is a really cool story. I even continue to read after the anime and i'm not disappointed. Wakana is a really cool guy whith pros/cons that make him a believable characters. He start of as the cliche protag with no friend but become his own later.
the way i usually describe this series is that the story and its characters are wholesome, but the animators are not lmao theres a couple of insane sequences featuring underage girls that really make me wish the characters were just aged up, i dno what this story gains by being set during their high school years, it really makes it harder for me to root for what is otherwise a great show
"i dno what this story gains by being set during their high school years" This, along with a lot of anime, are set during high school for 2 main reasons imo First, it's simply the demographic that's being marketed towards; the author or publisher is targeting the teen/young adult audience. Second, there's a lot of media (both in the west but especially in japan) that romanticizes the high school experience of hanging with friends after classes, being in sports/clubs, not having adult responsibilities, etc. It's also the time period where a lot of people really start to understand themselves and others and grow up, which is why so many coming of age stories take place in this age range. Honestly, for dress up darling specifically, I can get behind aging them up to freshmen in college or just taking out the more egregious fanservice shots/panels, but I still don't really mind what we got from s1 (except maybe them going a bit overboard in ep 2) and I know the manga tones it down past this point anyways so it's not an issue for me personally.
Stick to your guts and guns for Mushoku Tensei! Don't believe anyone saying it's not that bad, or it/he gets better, or that it's not actually bad because culture/mental age, or it makes for a more complex narrative.
