The gutteral laughter I made when the doctor realises rory is back, and pushes him with his finger as rory stiffly leans back, and slowly back forward, is top tier comedy.
The implication that the Doctor and Amy had given Vincent a new lease on life only to paint the image of the tardis blowing up and believing the two people who helped him died is so tragic
I always found that bit a bit offensive. Richard Curtis writes a beautiful story about Van Gogh, grief, depression, madness and a lonely misunderstood man. Then Moffat comes along, ruins it and has Vincent have a crazy fit over seeing visions of the TARDIS exploding, even the slightest hint that this drove him mad and possibly to kill himself is just a bit unnecessarily gross and unneeded
I never really considered this - it would have gone against the whole 'pile of good things and bad things' point that the Doctor makes at the end of the episode. These visions of the Tardis exploding would go on the pile of bad things, for sure - but the idea that Vincent had a new lease on life, and that the visions ultimately led to his suicide would be antithetical to the whole point of Vincent & The Doctor.
Oof! This take is so (beautifully) dark. DARK because of the outcome, but also somewhat BEAUTIFUL for giving Vincent a possible, alternative (and love-based) “reason” for his final decision. *BTW, I am NOT trying to discount his/others’ motive(s) for self-deletion. Mental illness is often an oppressive, persistent battle with a slew of “victims,” almost as many “survivors,” and occasional victors.” Still, I’m surely not alone in perpetually hoping to discover a somewhat “understandable” explanation for friends/family members who have taken the same course of action.. Thus, attributing Vincent’s end to “despair in light of his friends’ *apparent* demise” (rather than a life-long, internal, often fatalistic battle) is oddly comforting 🫣
@@JoeThornhill And he kind of did, didn't he? His hubris that he could somehow defeat 10 million spaceships is what really trapped him. He could have run like River asked him to. Knowing what the Pandorica is for really makes his speech harder to hear. "Remember who is standing in your way! Every black day I ever stopped you!" Knowing that they're banding together in fear of him, in their misguided attempt to save the universe from him. 😬😬😬
The Doctor to whatever the Pandorica was built to hold: "Have we met?" Jules: "I'd say so..." Viewers: "You have absolutely no idea... just wait about 20 more minutes."
The Pandorica speech has become an iconic fan favourite. To the point where there are recordings of at least five other actors who've played the Doctor reading it as special requests at convention panels and putting their own spin on it. On top of that fans who have a skill for voice acting have done versions for all of the Doctors. I would say that 3 out of the top 5 Doctor speeches come from Moffats tenure as show runner so you have lots to look forward to in that respect.
Smith got cast in a movie role off the back of this speech. Ryan Gosling saw it on TV, and decided to give him a role in Lost River, off the back of it.
@@arch1017Had no idea this happened! I remember reading about how he congratulated Ncuti on the set of Barbie when the news was announced that he had been cast as the 15th doctor commenting something along the line that he is "the biggest doctor who fan". Must have been true!
@@troytab6089 For some of us, just seeing the hand drop and the gun emerge told us who/what they were. Especially with the authentic, original 1970 sound effect. =:o}
@@troytab6089it definitely gets revealed here, they have guns in their hands, we hear the Nestene are here, and they’re made very clear to be duplicates. We all definitely know they’re Autons here
I love that summary the Doctor gives of the thing locked in the Pandorica. "A nameless horror, soaked in the blood of a billion, billion worlds. One day it would drop out of the sky and tear down your whole world." Then when you realize the prison was built for the Doctor and that's why he doesn't know about it. It's taking the Oncoming Storm of Davies a logical twelve steps further, and it's amazing to realize how the Doctor's enemies see him. But it's a valid take on the suffering and damage the Doctor can unleash (and has). The Doctor as a valid monster is an idea that Moffatt really likes to play with, and one thing I do enjoy about his run. And Smith's portrayal, because his Doctor understands well what he can be. Rory the Auton (a Nestene duplicate, an evolved form of the mannequins in the very first episode of NuWho) introduces one of my favorite twists and pieces of character development in the series. But I'll talk a lot more about him after you see the next episode. I can't wait!!
I love this episode, it is so so cool, and I also think his speech + the villians's speech to him + the silence at the end of the episode is such an epic way to end it. And of course, not to even mention...RORY ❤❤❤😂
And that twist was one of favourite to. The Doctor thought he was protecting something inside there and stopping them from getting it but it turns out he was protecting something that was meant for him and to keep him trapped there.
Also, one of my favourite twists of Doctor Who in who the Pandorica was for (and it makes you feel like you should have seen it coming a mile away, but I never had somehow ...) and one of the best lines of the season "look at me, I'm a target!" lol
Yeah my to. He thought he was trying to protect something in there but in the end he was only protecting something that was meant for him and to keep him trapped there.
Joyful watching this reaction. IMPOSSIBLE to wait for next week! And WHAT an episode! This was the pinnacle of Doctor Who, the golden era. (Though it still remained excellent for many years.) Lots of comments here noting that we first saw the Autons in "Rose". It must be pointed out that the Autons have been recurring villains since 1970!
Yes!! They were really on the actual Stonehenge site!! English Heritage gave special permission to film within the stone circle!! For those who don't know Stonehenge is roped off & you can't step within the stone circle! There are exceptions, twice a year for The Summer Solstice & Winter Solstice people are allowed within the stone circle & watch the rising of the sun. I've always had ideas to go before I died like my parents when they were young
Stonehenge is fairly local for me, I've been pretty much as close as paying visitors for free, at sunrise outside of opening times. There's a permissive path on the route of the old A344, and I was doing a bike ride 😊
My dummas self read that as, "before I died like my parents" and immediately assumed this comment was written by a GHOST before my brain readjusted. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
None of us were expecting Rory to come back from both being dead and from never having existed as a Roman made of plastic, but The Doctor sure seemed to take it in his stride! The Doctor's speech to all his enemies at Stonehenge is incredible! One of Smith's best in the role!
I mean sure no one knew how it was going to happen but i think we all could see it happening in one way or form. Seeing as he kept making a big deal about remembering things and nothing is truly lost and them constantly referencing him and the ring etc.
The fact that the Doctor was initially oblivious to it being Rory standing in front of him was also a call back to that first modern series episode with the Nestene consciousness - echoing him not being able to see the giant round transmitter in the middle of London ie the London Eye.
It doesn't matter how many times I've seen this episode, it never fails to bowl me over, especially the scenes with Rory and Amy. Going off to lie down now! :)
@@quintuscrinis I was excited by the color Daleks, I thought they were going for an “Infinity Stone” thing were each Dalek had a specific skill set and the Doctor had to figure out what it was to defeat them. I was horribly incorrect….. hahaha
@quintuscrinis I agree that VotD is the weakest episode of the season, but I'd still say it's a pretty good episode, and I think that speaks to the strength of S5 overall. To be honest, my main criticism of VotD is that they redesigned the Daleks with swappable weapons and gave them actual job roles, then didn't bother showing any of that off in the story.
I've been waiting for this one. Such a fantastic finale. The Tardis is essentially exploding at every moment in time - past, present and future. This is where things get complicated.
My daughter gave me a fleece blanket with that painting on it! The kind of light blanket you snuggle up with when watching movies on cold nights... It's one of my most favorite things. ;-]
I've met the blue merchant alien dude. Obviously without his make-up on. He's so polite and charming. Missed our my favourite response by River when the doctor said "a good wizard tricked them". Rivers response of "I hate good wizards in fairytales, they always turn out to be him!! (aka, the doctor)" 😂😂 This is also one of my favourite finales. Everything came together, all the adventures of amy and the doctor. All woven together. And the solution to this episode...i can't wait to see your reaction!! 💜
I had to watch the opening sequence a second time. The way you were giddy every time a previous character appeared on the screen, your reaction was just priceless! 😂
Poor Jules, this brain confusion is a tradition of Steven Moffat, your in for endless amounts of it in his era. Buckle up Jules, prepare your brain for more and more meltdowns trying to figure out Moffats timey wimey stuff 😂
The Pandorica! Yes, the vortex manipulator is from Captain Jack I believe. Also I love how the past episodes like Van Gogh and Churchil built up to this. Freaking love that River makes sure she see's the Doctor by messing with time/history just a little. Who the heck is that random guy? Don't know him, ah well! I like how you are concerned for River when you know she must live in order to die in the Library XD All the bad guys finally learned to work together to trap the Doctor. It's kind of amazing because Dalek's don't work with others because they think they are the superior beings but they all fear the universe being destroyed by the Doctor.
Rory came back as an Auton. They are the same mannequin monsters we saw in "Rose". They are made of plastic and often have guns inside their hands. He's much better built than Plastic Mickey. They are also a Classic monster that was used mostly in the 3rd Doctor stories.
During the week between this episode and the next, Stephen Moffat was trolling Whovians on Twitter, saying stuff like the next episode would of course be a flashback, because the Universe had just ended. 2:55 There’s an Easter egg for Classic Who fans here: below “Hello Sweetie,” the first characters are the Greek letters Theta Sigma, and in at least one Classic Who episode a fellow Time Lord says that “Theta Sigma” was a nickname of the Doctor’s when he was in the Academy.
One of the best finales in New Who! I loved the twist of the Pandorica being a prison for the Doc. Seeing all these aliens work together was a crazy moment.
Probably already mentioned in the comments (too many to check through) but the final episode aired on 26/6/10 the date this series has been leading up to .
Also that fist clenching the cyberleader does when saying "seal the pandorica" was a known gimmick of the late original cybermen, meaning cybus ones have probably mingled with em already in the doctor's universe
There's a little "The Doctor doesn't see it" with the occupant of the Pandorica. He's told that it's a nameless being that the entire cosmos is afraid of, that would drop out of the sky and ruin them. He then threatens them all later with "remember every black day that I ever stopped you." The audience thinks he's being clever and cool, but for the actual inhabitants of the universe, he's proving their fears.
Like I said some months ago, Series 5 is up there as some of my favorite NewWho. It's this fresh coat of paint, with such a strong performance from the three main leads (and River!). It all builds so wonderfully. As much as this one blows your mind, I daresay the next one will blow it even more.
River's in the TARDIS, the TARDIS is on fire, she's feeling the heat on repeat she'll require, someone she can trust someone with a bow tie, but he's been locked up and left to die.
Oh my God, what will they do It seems impossible to get through My mind is blown, I bet yours is too Well I guess this is Doctor Who Just listened to this song for the first time in forever today! What amazing timing!!
Love this 2 part finale so much. Only thing that irks me every time i rewatch it is how totally out of character it is for the daleks to join that alliance. But it makes for great TV so whatever i guess. Back to how much i love this episode, the opening showing all the chatacters weve come to meet over the season, all working together to warn the doctor is SO cool. The reveal of all the species who have come to 'take' the pandorica feels like the first time weve seen 11 truly look overwhelmed and even fearful. Love how Alex delivers that long line of names in that scene. Rorys reveal and the doctors reaction is both shocking and comedy gold And ofc the pandorica speech is absolutely iconic and really highlights perhaps for the first time just how big his reputation and even infamy has become at this point. The nestene consciousness' return with the autons and the reveal that came with it was really cool to see, first time we've seen them since all the way back in S1E1 And one of the most underrated short speeches in modern who, 11's desperate plea to the alliance to listen to him and believe him as they lock him in the pandorica. Amys and Rivers deaths, the Doctor locked in the pandorica, every star going out leaving Earth alone in the silent void of space mirrored by the abrupt ending of music or any sound. Silence truly falls. Such an incredible cliffhanger. I remember being so shocked when i watched this all those years ago as a kid. Had no idea how the doctor was going to get out of this one!
My favorite part is how, on rewatch, the response to the Doctor's speech is recontextualized: "Hah! You don't dare try to take the Pandorica from me!" "lol no, we can just nuke you into atoms. But we *want* you to keep it, dumbdumb, that's *your* trap in there."
Hmmm, You might have the date wrong? This is said to be taking place in AD102. Trajan Caesar was in power at the time, and the characters in the episode acknowledge that Cleopatra was supposed to be dead.
@@Scripture-Man Yes, and I do apologize, B.C, not A.D. But, Cleopatra still died in 30 B.C, over a century before this takes place. I also appreciate you not being mean about it, like some people are on the internet. Well done!
That rousing speech of the Doctor's -- in retrospect, everyone around must have shaking their heads about how backwards he'd gotten it, and how silly he'd feel when he figured it out. It was a great speech, but a total waste, though it did occupy the Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Judoon, and Nestenes for the half hour it took for Amy to wake up.
I absolutely LOVE how Moffat writes loneliness. Episode 1, Amy's abandonment issues are cranked up to 11 by the Doctor. In the Angel episodes, she's isolated from everyone to the point where she can't even open her eyes without becoming one of the "lonely assassins." In Amy's Choice, she finally commits to Rory before losing him and her memories of him in the Silurian episodes. In Vincent and the Doctor, she gets some catharsis for her loss but it still ends with Vincent's grief killing him. And in this episode, her repressed love for Rory manifests a duplicate of him and her grief finally kills her. Season 5 has one of the best and most devastating companion arcs for me
Like one of the best penultimate cliffhangers, bar none. Funny, engaging, emotional, and best of all, uncertain. And Rory! Watching it for the first time was just jaw dropping. So good! Fun fact: they actually DID film at Stonehenge but were given a limited amount of time, so some of it was filmed on site, and some were recreated to look like it. Hi, I'm a Whovian. LOL
Yes they really filmed at Stonehenge. I got to go there in my late teens just before they fenced it off. It has Roman carved graffiti! It feels like time in thin there. You could feel thousands of years. I loved it. As far as this episode I find it fantastic. All the bits placed in the storyline all season come together. Amazing bit of writing.
This episode was also a bit bonkers! So many folks from the Doctor's timeline! Here is a good example of time being a big ball of timey wimey wobbly wobbly stuff! It is funny to me that the Doctor describes the being that must be in the box and then goes to the other aliens and reminds them just how dangerous he is! Just as dangerous as the being the Doctor described!! As for Rory and Amy, I wonder how this will affect Amy moving forward, especially since she now has memories of Rory! This episode was fun and surprising! And the cliffhanger was just right!
A few notes. The speech the Doctor gives about "letting someone else go first" led to Smith landing a major movie role, though I'm afraid at the moment I can't remember which movie. The date given on River's handy little gadget was the date the episode first aired. The reference to a race called Draconian is a call back to the Third Doctor story Frontier in Space, which saw...well, spoilers, but there was a potential for an interplanetary war between the human empire and a race called the Draconians, which were meant to look reptilian, though I don't think the make up department quite got the memo. We also see a Hoix, one of the species being pursued by the Tenth Doctor and Rose when Elton Pope blunders in at the beginning of Love and Monsters. And on a personal note, the initial exchange between the Doctor and Roman Rory, along with the "distraction", are very, very, very high up on my list of favourite scenes in all of Who.
@@robbob5302 No, that came much later, after Matt had already appeared in Terminator Genesis. TG may in fact have been the role, I just cannot remember.
@@musicaddict1046 It could have been. My memory for such details has been deteriorating for a number of years, and this is such a detail that got lost.
Just fyi, IIRC yes they really filmed at Stonehenge. They were given just a handful of hours over a single night to get all the footage they needed. Crew did an incredible job considering how tight a window they had.
5:40 "River seems excited, but isn't it meant to be super dangerous." Two things to remember about River... she's an archeologist... and she's ... let's say adventurous. (You might say crazy too, but a good kind.) Welcome to the ultimate plot twist... The Doctor is the "bad guy" locked away in the Pandorica.
I absolutely love the expectation subversion that is the Pandorica. It was built to safely contain the scariest, most dangerous monster in the universe -- The Doctor.
You:oh no I just waiting for the Daleks to turn up now. Me: oh you just wait later and to the end. 😂 Your reaction to Rory coming back did not disappoint me. The cliffhanger at end is one favourite. The universe is cranked and is about to be not existing. How can we solve this. Got wait next week to find out. 😂
the end of this episode is beautiful the music cutting out as if the song of all those stars is dying. some of my favorite details are the moment where the doctor describes the "nameless terrible thing" the pandorica could contain describing it as a "trickster or warrior" only to be inadvertently and perfectly describing himself also the moment where he doesn't realize Rory is back is quite sweet in a prior episode he calls Vincent, Rory he has likely still been picturing Rory there having started to like him and feeling horrible about his death hence the little poke to confirm he is actually there.
The Stonehenge speech is one of the Doctor Who clips I replay every so often. It was just so epic - even if the real reason all the aliens backed off wasn't because of the Doctor's speech, but because they knew it wasn't time yet.
Some scenes were filmed at the real Stonehenge, Wiltshire. They could only afford to shoot during one night and spent the only hour of daylight in the morning shooting a three-minute dialogue sequence. The cast and crew had to abide by regulations; they were not allowed to touch the stones, bring heavy equipment in, and the lighting had to be done from the floor. Regardless, The Doctor and Amy appear to touch several of the rocks. Dropped from the episode Liz Ten's explanation that most of the residents of Starship UK were now back on Earth, but that she had remained behind to care for the ageing Star Whale.

When the played the iconic "hello Stonehenge" music at The Proms they had a bunch of aliens come on and menace the audience and the orchestra. When the doctor gives his grand speech and the music comes to an end all the aliens immediately left. You can easily find a video of it on youtube.
This is one of my favorite Doctor Who episodes ever. I like how all the different factions joined forces to try and save the universe. "NO! We will save the universe, from YOU!" was my favorite line/moment in this episode.
I LOVE the painting going through so many of his friends, them all working together to get the message to him! And River is always just so brilliant. This is one of my favourite two parters and is so much fun. Yes, they really did get to film at Stonehenge! As for what order things happened in, essentially the crack in time is showing up throughout all of time and space, but it all originates from the same event, so basically all the cracks we’ve seen lead to the same moment in time, that white light is one moment and each crack is a separate connection to it, if that makes sense?
Almost, although that date is "Amy's" time, and everything was constructed from around that and around her. This episode was occurring in 102AD so long before he met Amy. The Tardis blew up in 102AD - wibbly, wobbly, timey-wimey - Oh, and don't worry, it gets even more complicated timewise in the next episode.
about the bowtie: I have also noticed something: Alone with Amy: blue bowtie Together with Amy and Rory: red bowtie I may need to watch again to confirm.
Hi Jules 👋🙋♂ ... isn't it awesome how they can come up with such weird, wonderful and inspiring episodes .... EVERY single week ??? AND ... manage to keep you in suspense at the same time ??? Wonder where this one's going to take us 😁
One of the great things about this episode is that the first time the 10th doctor met river she told him he's not her doctor and that her doctor could make entire armies run away just by telling them his name and now finally we see the moment she was talking about when the 11th scares off all of his old enemies Its a great subtle callback
@@GBVGBVGBVGBV people who know the doctor well often comment that they can see his true age in his eyes rather than on his face so I think it's more about that
Fun fact: A run of figures back in the 2010 came with a Build-A-...prop? version of the Pandorica, with each figure coming with an Audiobook version of a classic who story on a CD with the pandorica symbols printed on it, and trays that could be assembed togeather to form the Pandorica.
Watching you try to track all of the timey-wimeyness reminds me of the scene in Austin Powers when he goes cross-eyed trying to figure out time travel. I can't wait to see how you handle the next episode. 😉🤯 This is my favourite finale in all of new Who and part of the reason why this is my favourite season. Moffat admitted that this was pretty much him being a schoolboy dumping all of the toys on the floor to play with, but it works so well. As you've probably guessed, the various aliens mentioned have all appeared in the show before, whether in Classic Who, New or both. You probably didn't realise either that Rory and the Romans are Autons - the classic series enemy that you might remember as the living plastic mannequins from the first episode of New Who fan. As a huge Auton fan, as soon as I saw their hands open to reveal the guns, I flipped out! That's their signature weapon. You'll notice that the Doctor has a propensity for speeches during the Moffat era, and the Stonehenge speech is one of the most epic. You can even find videos of other Doctor actors being asked to recite it at conventions. If Matt Smith hasn't won you over by this point then you must be a Cyberman. Oh and Vincent's painting of the exploding TARDIS became a very popular image and it quickly made its way on to posters and the like. I think pretty much every Whovian of that era has that poster, including me. Also, in River's message for the Doctor on the cliff face, you can see the Greek letters Theta and Sigma. In classic Who it was established that Theta Sigma was the Doctor's nickname at the Time Lord academy. This is an absolutely brilliant episode and I can't wait to see what you think of the finale. I'm predicting that your mind will be blown in multiple ways. The way Moffat weaved the arc for this season is truly masterful.
This episode is one pf my favorites, because I guessed its the doctor whos in the pandorica (I guessed its a future version of the doctor or the doctor in the future but the same face) and then River mentions it being a trick and it just dawned on me and I sat there in shock the rest of the episode
Fun fact, Stonehenge, while indeed already ancient, looked very different back then to how it does today, before both lots of vandalism and degradation, and Victorian attempts at "restoration" of the structure, when stones where propped back upright, moved into neater circles etc.
The Victorians have a lot to answer for with their moving of ancient stones, barrows, ruins and so on. The worst thing I heard they did was 'unwrapping' parties using Egyptian mummies. Then there's the rich lords who would create fake circles and barrows/ruins on their land and gardens using stones from real ones with no indication where the real site was so those historical sites are lost.
I will admit the first time I saw this, when The Doctor started describing the thing trapped in the Pandorica a part of me was like 'depending on your pov, that could be The Doctor'. Because, it IS. 'A nameless horror' The Doctor has no name, or at least it isn't known to anyone. 'soaked in the blood of a billion, billion worlds' Daleks, Cybermen, Racnoss, the Family of Blood, the Slitheen...his hands aren't exactly clean) 'it would drop out of the sky and tear down your whole world.' WE see him coming in to save people but, from the pov of the people not travelling with him, he just pops in and suddenly their world is turned upside down.
Things look as bleak as possible. Those silly aliens should have realised, with all the evils in the world, the one thing remaining in Pandora’s box was hope!
his speech was so good but after understanding what the Pandorica is and why it was built, the speech becomes kinda ironic. all you saw was what you thought but that doesn't always mean a thing, death in season 5 and 6 is kind of like the revolving door of arkham asylum. The TARDIS btw doesn't "really" have a past or future since it exists in all of time at the same time and the explosion that has happened/happens/will happen does so everywhere in existence. Confused? Understandable. Not all questions will be answered and you will have even more of those after the next episode but you will have the time of your life, promise. Told you you would love 11 :)
Back again, Jules! 💜 A new record! 0:28 And, again, at 5:26, but going beyond that is asking your powers of prediction to do the impossible, in this one. Also, great recall, at 2:10, on Captain Jack! 😂 One of the very best openings in Doctor Who episodes - A cavalcade of past persons. Laying the groundwork for the episode to keep mounting in excitement, until it becomes an Alien Lollapalooza!! Filled with many great lines, all superbly timed and delivered, by all characters. River is always fantastic, but watching her fly through the scenes in this opening stretch is awesome - and she ‘s a very nice Cleopatra, as well! “Never ignore a coincidence. Unless, of course, you’re busy … “ 😅 “Ah! but we’ve got surprise on our side! “ 😂 10:07 Petulant Amy - doing her herky-jerky movements and being thoroughly put out, as if much of what has happened up to now, had nothing to do with her Not Listening! 🙄 11:19 - The moment I have been anticipating since, well, you know when. Worthy of a screen shot! 🥰😊 The little push , and rock back and forth, in return, is a wonderful touch, “Hello again” And whilst the scene was pure comedy, on its surface, it does double duty, as just another warning of what’s coming - the Doctor wondering what everyone else in the universe knows, and he does not. And then - after the relief, and possible guilt for moving past has set in, with Rory, one is presented with the absolute heartbreaker ending to this one. All around - everyone in dire straits, as the galaxies wink off. Sad, and very beautiful. 🥲 An absolutely beautiful episode, and whilst I agree with your statement a few episodes ago, about placing Doctors, one above the other, in a list, I find myself always having a hard time imagining any other Doctor doing these scenes, with quite the same impact. The Pandorica speech is classic, and the frenetic action, the advice to Rory, with the ring, the exchanges with the lovely River, is all just so 11 I also have to add that, as silly as it is - the opening shot of the Doctor seeing the “Hello Sweetie” in huge letters on the cliff side is awesome and hilarious. I love it every time. 🤣 So happy today, seeing your reaction to this one. It goes without saying that I look forward to continuing this journey, as well. 🥰 Have a delightful Thursday, Jules. 💜🤗💜 Enjoy the day, and look toward the week’s end, rapidly approaching. Good shows, games, food, and open skies. Enjoy, and Thank You! 😉😊
Tom 👋💜 it was such a good episode!! I loved the Rory reveal... My goodness, that was amazing. What a well done episode, full of surprises. There's something to be said of series 5, honestly. It feels SO well done. The stories are brilliantly written, the sets are glorious. I am LOVING it! I'm so glad you liked this one as much as I did, Tom. Now, we just have to see how the Doctor gets himself out of this mess 😜 The week's end will be most welcome! It's been a busy and hot week and I haven't had a lot of free time. I actually just saw one of my peewees in the bird bath, dipping in a worm. They flew off so I then RACED to the nest and sure enough, they were feeding the babies. I'm so glad they are using it. It's the little things that makes life so special! Thank you for sharing these moments with me and your never-ending positivity (which is something that can be rare to find!) 🥰 Enjoy the rest of your evening, dear Tom 🤗
Here we go!!! The final double episodes of the season. I'm so exited for you Jules! These two episodes blew my mind! This is a classic Moffat. He likes to play A LOT with time; remember "Don't Blink"? He wrote that. So, expect a lot of that in this Moffat Era. And since I'm a sucker for time paradoxes, I absolutely LOVE the Moffat Era.
I adore your Doctor Who reactions. This and X-Files ones are my favorites! I hope you are well, Jules, and have been able to get a little more relaxation and family time! I'm excited about the conclusion!😊 Take care❤

The gutteral laughter I made when the doctor realises rory is back, and pushes him with his finger as rory stiffly leans back, and slowly back forward, is top tier comedy.
There's a call back to this in a later episode too!
One could hypothesize that if Doctor Who were real, this might have been the reason for his suicide.
@@j.rileyindependentproductions which is plain disrespectful
Mental illness is often an oppressive, persistent battle with a slew of “victims,” almost as many “survivors,” and occasional victors.”
Still, I’m surely not alone in perpetually hoping to discover a somewhat “understandable” explanation for friends/family members who have taken the same course of action..
Thus, attributing Vincent’s end to “despair in light of his friends’ *apparent* demise” (rather than a life-long, internal, often fatalistic battle) is oddly comforting 🫣
A person who just turns up one day and tears your whole world down? Certainly sounds like the Doctor.
Yeah, but he then said there was a wizard who trapped it, then River said the wizard usually turns out to be him.
Every black day I ever stopped you!"
Knowing that they're banding together in fear of him, in their misguided attempt to save the universe from him. 😬😬😬
The Doctor to whatever the Pandorica was built to hold: "Have we met?"
Jules: "I'd say so..."
Viewers: "You have absolutely no idea... just wait about 20 more minutes."
Rory and the Romans with him are Autons, a throwback for you to the first episode 'Rose' when the mannequins were coming alive.
That doesn't get revealed properly until next episode.
@@troytab6089 Wait, wasn't it revealed properly in this episode? The doctor was calling them plastic Romans driven by the Nestene Consciousness.
@@troytab6089 For some of us, just seeing the hand drop and the gun emerge told us who/what they were. Especially with the authentic, original 1970 sound effect. =:o}
ISN'T IT AWESOME!!! What a fantastic episode!
I almost got it; I was halfway certain we were going to have the Valeyard coming out of that box. I've always wondered if anyone else thought that.
Thank you!! I'm so glad you enjoyed!
Now I need to go. If I ever have enough vacay money, Im going on a Doctor Who tour around the world

Stonehenge is fairly local for me, I've been pretty much as close as paying visitors for free, at sunrise outside of opening times.

@@JhadeSagrav a gelf must have escaped from the portal :P
My favorite part is the bit when the Doctor meets Rory; I just love the deadpan delivery on both sides. 😄
It was so well done hahaha
The weapon hands you seen before in the Christopher Eccleston episode "Rose" which was when the autons were invading.
RIGHT!! Way back when!
It doesn't matter how many times I've seen this episode, it never fails to bowl me over, especially the scenes with Rory and Amy. Going off to lie down now! :)
It was SO GOOD! I hope you have a lovely week 💜
One of the best two part finales Doctor Who has ever done.
Season 5 is easily one of Dr Who's best. All of the interwoven stories and foreshadowing!
To quote George Lucas, "It's like poetry, it rhymes."
@@Sovreign071 one of the most complained about seasons during its time.
A lot of people had agendas and they were rooted in gatekeeping.
I don't know, I could have done without the colour coded daleks and space flight spitfires. But yes it is certainly a great series all told
And at the end .... silence fell.

I've met the blue merchant alien dude. Obviously without his make-up on. He's so polite and charming.
Missed our my favourite response by River when the doctor said "a good wizard tricked them". Rivers response of "I hate good wizards in fairytales, they always turn out to be him!! (aka, the doctor)" 😂😂
This is also one of my favourite finales. Everything came together, all the adventures of amy and the doctor. All woven together. And the solution to this episode...i can't wait to see your reaction!! 💜
I met him too! Charming gentleman, he told me how he had input into Dorium's costume!
I like how you are concerned for River when you know she must live in order to die in the Library XD
All the bad guys finally learned to work together to trap the Doctor.
It's kind of amazing because Dalek's don't work with others because they think they are the superior beings but they all fear the universe being destroyed by the Doctor.
Jack never lost one of his hands, and there were many time agents. Mentioning the tech was just a way to explain River time traveling.
yeah it clearly wasnt jacks, as he turns up later and has both hands.
I could listen to Jules, in her aussie accent, saying "No" and "Oh No" all day long.
Thanks.
Oh naaauuurrrr 🤣 thank you!! Glad to give you a smile!
I love how she says "so good" as "so gwid"!
"LOOK AT ME I'M A TARGET!!!"
One of the best finales in New Who! I loved the twist of the Pandorica being a prison for the Doc. Seeing all these aliens work together was a crazy moment.
Probably already mentioned in the comments (too many to check through) but the final episode aired on 26/6/10 the date this series has been leading up to .
Wow, I actually didn't know that, that's so cool!
It is so very complex and I am really impressed with your mental wanderings and theorizing and I can't wait until you finish this storyline!
Thank you!! I'm so glad you enjoy my little theories as well 🙂
I love this whole story arc. This episode is so good.
Also that fist clenching the cyberleader does when saying "seal the pandorica" was a known gimmick of the late original cybermen, meaning cybus ones have probably mingled with em already in the doctor's universe
I LOVE van Gogh and The Starry Night is a favorite. I have a picture of it AND this Tardis painting in my room.
The TARDIS painting is BEAUTIFUL!!
@@julesreacts I've got that painting in my bathroom!
There's a little "The Doctor doesn't see it" with the occupant of the Pandorica.
He's told that it's a nameless being that the entire cosmos is afraid of, that would drop out of the sky and ruin them.
He then threatens them all later with "remember every black day that I ever stopped you."
The audience thinks he's being clever and cool, but for the actual inhabitants of the universe, he's proving their fears.
The pandorica speech was so good in the full version. One of my fave episodes.
Like I said some months ago, Series 5 is up there as some of my favorite NewWho. It's this fresh coat of paint, with such a strong performance from the three main leads (and River!). It all builds so wonderfully.
As much as this one blows your mind, I daresay the next one will blow it even more.
Yeah, I think it's probably my favourite, too! It's just SO well written!
Silence will fall. Indeed.

Rorys reveal and the doctors reaction is both shocking and comedy gold
And ofc the pandorica speech is absolutely iconic and really highlights perhaps for the first time just how big his reputation and even infamy has become at this point.
The nestene consciousness' return with the autons and the reveal that came with it was really cool to see, first time we've seen them since all the way back in S1E1
And one of the most underrated short speeches in modern who, 11's desperate plea to the alliance to listen to him and believe him as they lock him in the pandorica.
The best of Matt Smith IMHO.
As a history student, the fact that people were bowing to Caesar and Cleopatra 2 and 30 years before they were born is hilarious.

Ahhh been waiting for this reaction! Keeping Rory's return a secret has not been easy!
I bet!! It was such a shock to see him again!!
Who's Rory? And why am I crying?
Oh they fenced it off now?
@@robbob5302 A long time ago. People were making a mess of the place, so now it's only open at certain times.
Just watch! I LOVE this finale so much.
I cried in this episode and I'm planning to cry in the next one
Morbius?
@@robbob5302 No, that came much later, after Matt had already appeared in Terminator Genesis. TG may in fact have been the role, I just cannot remember.

Your reaction to Rory coming back did not disappoint me.
The cliffhanger at end is one favourite. The universe is cranked and is about to be not existing. How can we solve this. Got wait next week to find out. 😂
One of the all-time BEST cliffhangers in modern Who!
And that's how it happened... That's how Rory came back!!
...wow, we're really at the end of S5 already, huh? Time flies.
They did indeed film at Stonehenge and it was wet so they actually left it very muddy so made a quick exit when done xD
the end of this episode is beautiful the music cutting out as if the song of all those stars is dying. some of my favorite details are the moment where the doctor describes the "nameless terrible thing" the pandorica could contain describing it as a "trickster or warrior" only to be inadvertently and perfectly describing himself also the moment where he doesn't realize Rory is back is quite sweet in a prior episode he calls Vincent, Rory he has likely still been picturing Rory there having started to like him and feeling horrible about his death hence the little poke to confirm he is actually there.
The Stonehenge speech is one of the Doctor Who clips I replay every so often. It was just so epic - even if the real reason all the aliens backed off wasn't because of the Doctor's speech, but because they knew it wasn't time yet.
Same
I've been looking forward to your reaction to this one. I'm delighted you loved it as much as i do.

Fun fact: A run of figures back in the 2010 came with a Build-A-...prop? version of the Pandorica, with each figure coming with an Audiobook version of a classic who story on a CD with the pandorica symbols printed on it, and trays that could be assembed togeather to form the Pandorica.
This episode and the next are one of my favorite season finales in the entire series. I rewatch them all the time!
Watching you try to track all of the timey-wimeyness reminds me of the scene in Austin Powers when he goes cross-eyed trying to figure out time travel. I can't wait to see how you handle the next episode. 😉🤯
This is my favourite finale in all of new Who and part of the reason why this is my favourite season.
I reckon it's my favourite too, Ashley! It's just SO well and and SO surprising... the writing throughout series 5 has been out of this world!!
So excited to see you watch the next one!
This episode is one pf my favorites, because I guessed its the doctor whos in the pandorica (I guessed its a future version of the doctor or the doctor in the future but the same face) and then River mentions it being a trick and it just dawned on me and I sat there in shock the rest of the episode
The Cloister Bell is Ringing...=))
'soaked in the blood of a billion, billion worlds' Daleks, Cybermen, Racnoss, the Family of Blood, the Slitheen...his hands aren't exactly clean)
'it would drop out of the sky and tear down your whole world.' WE see him coming in to save people but, from the pov of the people not travelling with him, he just pops in and suddenly their world is turned upside down.
I love it when everything comes together......
I love 11 much more than I ever thought! He's AMAZING!
Just noticed River mentioned the Zygons. They haven't been in the show for a long time.
Likewise, the Draconians, not been in it since the 3rd Doctor, early 1970s.
@@GBVGBVGBVGBV Also the Drahvins were mentioned who appeared with the 1st Doctor
Back again, Jules! 💜
A new record! 0:28 And, again, at 5:26, but going beyond that is asking your powers of prediction to do the impossible, in this one. Also, great recall, at 2:10, on Captain Jack! 😂
One of the very best openings in Doctor Who episodes - A cavalcade of past persons.
Unless, of course, you’re busy … “ 😅
“Ah! but we’ve got surprise on our side! “ 😂
10:07 Petulant Amy - doing her herky-jerky movements and being thoroughly put out, as if much of what has happened up to now, had nothing to do with her Not Listening! 🙄
11:19 - The moment I have been anticipating since, well, you know when. Worthy of a screen shot! 🥰😊
The little push , and rock back and forth, in return, is a wonderful touch, “Hello again”
And whilst the scene was pure comedy, on its surface, it does double duty, as just another warning of what’s coming - the Doctor wondering what everyone else in the universe knows, and he does not.
And then - after the relief, and possible guilt for moving past has set in, with Rory, one is presented with the absolute heartbreaker ending to this one. All around - everyone in dire straits, as the galaxies wink off. Sad, and very beautiful. 🥲
An absolutely beautiful episode, and whilst I agree with your statement a few episodes ago, about placing Doctors, one above the other, in a list, I find myself always having a hard time imagining any other Doctor doing these scenes, with quite the same impact. The Pandorica speech is classic, and the frenetic action, the advice to Rory, with the ring, the exchanges with the lovely River, is all just so 11
I also have to add that, as silly as it is - the opening shot of the Doctor seeing the “Hello Sweetie” in huge letters on the cliff side is awesome and hilarious. I love it every time. 🤣
So happy today, seeing your reaction to this one. It goes without saying that I look forward to continuing this journey, as well. 🥰
Have a delightful Thursday, Jules.
Now, we just have to see how the Doctor gets himself out of this mess 😜
The week's end will be most welcome!
Awww thank you so much, Lady!!
You're welcome! 🤗
Awesome video as always! Cannot wait for the next one! after waiting all week. Have a good rest of your week! 💜
Moffet takes the stories to another level.
The date of "Amy's time", 26/06/2010, have a guess what date the series finale originally aired?
NO WAY?! That is so cool!
It is a little funny that the Alliance are against the Doctor for being a danger to the universe when the Daleks tried to destroy Reality in Series 4.
26:08 Jules keeps saying: "Getting into that crack..." 😅🤭🙈
I'm too innocent to realise what I was saying 🤣
fabulous 🤩 and so many questions.... just wait and see !!
