    I don’t understand how they can hate the secondary market? When you think about it, they literally sell out of all their stock before prices rise above the retail. It’s the secondary markets eventual power that helps Pokemon sell out of its products. So they are a business that sells all of its products for its mark ups 😆 they should be grateful!! You can’t have your cake and eat it. Love you’re videos too mate 👍

      They don’t hate secondary market. Pokemon never loses out on a sale. The consumer market is very very small compared to the larger markets of distributors and marketing companies. The reason for not printing old sets as it gets the distributors and marketing companies to buy their cardboard.

  • @Ottrix82

    I mean what could stop Pokemon from double dipping? They could easily run a secret eBay shop through a different alias and sell older products at secondary market level prices

    I love that you’re saying this, thank you. That’s exactly why I flat refuse to buy digital only copies of games. My brother and I have been discussing for awhile if Pokémon would go to a digital only card game, similar to hearthstone. He feels it may be only a matter of time, and I pray that day never arrives.

      Look at God's unchained. It's like a mix of hearthstone and magic but players actually own the cards via an nft. There is full transparency on the supply of cards and an open secondary market for players to do what they wish with their cards

    I usually only get 1-2 booster boxes of each set to hold for sale later. The worst part is the ones trying to manipulate the market early by buying cases at a time making it harder for the people that not only want to invest but also enjoy collecting and opening packs for sets.

  • @GigaChadow
    @GigaChadow 6 місяців тому

    The fact that Pokémon collecting is about the “chase” is such an important idea, it really makes you wonder when they’ll release something like magic did with the 1/1 ring card. I personally hope they don’t, but stuff like that is coming I’m sure?
    Keep up the great content man! Hope you and anyone who reads this has a great week!

    • @drmonstervibes
      @drmonstervibes 6 місяців тому

      because as explained in this video, they understand the need of the secondary market but they're not so happy about it.. they won't make any more money by creating a 1/1 card - there's no point to it for them

    • @GigaChadow
      @GigaChadow 6 місяців тому

      @@drmonstervibes see I actually disagree that this would be an exact reason why the secondary market helps them actually! Imagine how many more packs they sel because of the initial chase to get that 1/1 or 1/10 and yes those cards would be worth more than usual in the secondary market but it would be really interesting to see if magic made more sales off their expansion when they did that off of lord of the rings. My idea could be totally wrong if the sales weren’t any better but at least that’s my thought

    Hey Phillips Collectiles 👋 - I fell deep into the hobby in only the last few months due to a UA-cam rabbit hole on the subject. But I have and am still quickly tiring of videos on market fluctuations and "the next big thing". So I really appreciate that you're making videos with more to them. Really well done. I hope you manage to keep it up, and are rewarded, to your satisfaction.

    Well, isn't this true for every 'physical-thing-producing' manufacturer? Sure, car factories want to sell you a new car, but they can do nothing about you buying a used one.
    What is relevant is the fact that you don't own digital stuff, and you're absolutely right that people should realize this and go back to physical products if possible. Nintendo was a good example: Buy cartridges, not a digital licence.

    Its a really good video. basically the company whose self aware of the collectible side of their business. I do agree, any company would be mad they arent tapping into that secondary market, but they are making billions already and that secondary is fueling their primary source so don't bite the hand that feeds you!
    Or you get a company like Fanatics who is now interested in grading. Buy the card from them, grade the card from them (huge conflict) which turns them into the villian and could hurt the company.

    Yu-Gi-Oh! has run down the market with constant reprints of popular and chase cards thus devaluing older sets and the collectivity of it. Though there's been a few reprints over the years of base set styled cards, Pokemon has the good sense to not over do it too much and too often. This hopefully means that my collection is good to sell at the 50th anniversary of Pokemon!

    I get the overall point, the Japanese and English Flareon are not exactly the same tho, texturing on the cards are different. I would consider most Japanese Alt Art cards to be the best looking of two languages, not £2000+ difference but it does have some impact. That Flareon was probably a bad example as the English one is easy to obtain but the Japanese card was a limited promo of only 3000 cards.
    The problem with your point is it can flip on it's head in an instant. For example the recent increase in English alt arts, where Japanese cards were previously more expensive now it's the English cards that demand the premium. So it's not always the challenge of getting a rare card but the card that the collector deems to be the most expensive version and that be affected by so many outside factors.
