  • Grandmaster Ben Finegold debuts a new class that's all about games played since 2001. He looks at the best of 10 year old prodigy Ilya Makoveev of Russia. Finegold thinks Makoveev will be great some day; after watching this, you may believe the hype too.

    Ben Finegold is Gold. I am a simple man I see Ben Finegold in the title I click like and I watch. Makoveev reminds me of me (playstyle). But he is ten thousand elo higher and better. Please look at Wei Yi and Arjuns games :D

    Now one more reason to chuckle about all the dads who are making wind around their children playing chess and basically being their butlers at chess tournaments, although the kid has like a rating of 1500 at age 13.

      Dude I am 13 and I have a Rating of 1500. I never go to tournaments and this is my first rating. I also never go training cause I am playing table tennis every day.

    Good sense of humour and looks like there is only one junior student called 'Arjun' in the class!! Why doesn't the camera pan to show the class .. what's wrong in that?! C'mon guys, if you are name calling so often it is only fair that we see who the heck you are talking to!

    I love Feingold's lectures so much. I'm sure he is very busy or maybe just over The whole lecture thing but I wish St. Louis Chess center would offer him some cold hard cash to bring him out of retirement - just like fischer the 80s. Say 2 Gs a lecture

    I don't understand, so this kid plays any opening he wants but does he actually know the theory well or does he just make half of it up as he goes along? Most strong players stick to a limited number of opening moves which they've studied.

    Wasn't Makoveev caught cheating in a blitz junior championship? His moves do seem strange for a kid that says he trains with a coach for only 2 hours per week.
