They said it was not his own doing that this happened, but no one else seems to have been dropped from Nintendo's program. Yeah. I don't watch Nintendo UA-camrs except for him. Everytime I want to learn about eshop games he's my go to, and I guarantee there are many other people who do the same.
True, I would've never known about Nippon Marathon if it wasn't for him, and it ended up being one of my favourite party games ever.

We need a new TotalBiscuit. Like him or not, he was a true reviewer -- didn't give a crap who made it/how he got it, you'd get his honest opinion. As a consumer I appreciated that, even if he 'didn't like' a game, he would give it kudos where due. We need honest reviewing and not youtubers doing ads for products (not to say there isn't some good reviewers today).

I truly love Worth a Buy. He can be very harsh on games. But we are quite the same age, so i understand his hate towards some new games.
Another thing to add, is that Arlo (who is also a Nintendo Brand Ambassador) has heavily heavily criticized Nintendo over the years on his Channel (very openly i should add) and didn't drop him. (though that may also be because i think Nintendo loves Muppets)
That is interesting. I'm going to guess the main thing that bit BEU in the butt was the Zelda hack video. Even though Nintendo didn't say anything to him, that might have subtracted BEU's loyalty points to Nintendo. I'm less inclined to say that it was the mental health stuff that got him booted off
Alternative take, after seeing how strongly negative some of his Nintendo videos were, they offered him the ambassador program to try and reduce/silence that negativity.
Is Arlo really an ambassador tho?The fact that he takes review copies from time to time doesnt mean he is a member of the program...Wood will still have access to free copies of games altough he is not a member any more...Not all Nintendo content creators are members of Nintendo's ambassador program.
To be fair, most of Arlo's reviews are mixed at worse. He's definitely criticizes quite a few games, but it doesn't seem like he outright dislikes most of the games that he criticizes in reviews. I could be wrong though.

Well apparently he didn’t get much as a Nintendo ambassador anyway. He really doesn’t lose anything and he still gets review copies, so there’s that at least.
Yeah, he's not mad about the drop itself; he's mad that the way they dropped him was a slap in the face. Since he's still getting review copies and getting invited to events (like an ambassador would), the only thing Nintendo wanted to do was strip him of his title and dissociate from him -- with no explanation.

Tyronium he played a modded Zelda game and posted it on his channel. That is what probably got him canned. I don’t agree with that but ambassadors should be held to a higher standard.

During the development of our favorite console, one of the lead designers had such bad gas in the confined spaces and testing labs that he was eventually fired- it was so extreme that one of his colleagues was quoted as saying he “couldn’t recall what regular air smelled like” . Tragic

@@muhannadburwais8400 My guess is that it got lost in communication somewhere along the chain from Nintendo to Wood. We know that they weren't contacting him directly, so it may be that someone dropped the ball in delivering the message. It could also be that Nintendo doesn't want to outright denounce Wood, hence the fact that they still send him games and whatnot, and because Wood makes them a ton of money. They just don't want to be in a position of officially partnering with someone who is using or promoting emulation of Nintendo games.
I posted on Wood's video about him losing his Ambassador title. I said that IF it were because of his association with the fight against mental illnesses, then I would not only sell my Switch and all my Switch accessories, but I also would never buy Nintendo products ever again.
I won't repeat the entire post I made, but to sum it up, I have depression and social anxiety. Maybe some other stuff too that I haven't had diagnosed yet. I won't be buying products from a company who basically "hates my kind."
Many people on here are thinking it was due to the mod video he did though. And I agree.
Wood has been an advocate for mental illness for quite some time now with no repercussions from Nintendo. But as soon as he posts a mod video, days later, he gets dropped from his Ambassador title. Coincidence? I think not.
In the eyes of Nintendo and any other game company, emulation is seen as piracy. Basically, roms are shared on the internet quite easily. It doesn't matter whether the console is dead, if the game is no longer in production, etc. The companies want you to BUY their stuff even if you can no longer do so.
So, with Wood doing that video, he was, in Nintendo's eyes, supporting piracy. Even though Wood would never actually do so.
I'm pretty confident that I'll be keeping my Switch. I still support Wood, but as soon as I saw that mod video come across my subscription feed, I was like, "Oh nooooo."
I do feel like Nintendo could have simply sent him a letter telling him that he needs to remove that video immediately and maybe suspended his title temporarily (like a year or so). But I guess there were legal stuff preventing them from doing that.
Nintendo, very specifically, has been against emulation for years. They're the reason the largest ROM sites were taken down.
There's absolutely no way they didn't have a problem with him emulating the game to run mods on.
I said the same thing regarding the mental health stuff as I also have depression and anxiety. However, I don't believe it's because of the mod video; they would have simply said so or claimed/removed the video as they have done with everyone else. Nintendo isn't shy about their stance on mods and emulation; so, there is no reason to believe they'd be so indirect as to why they removed him.
@Timothy Huggins you don’t seem to understand why Nintendo has always been harsh on mods. You’re probably used to the loose piracy enforcement of the US or other Western countries, just as I am. But you have to look beyond your window of freedom into other countries to understand foreign corporate decisions.
To play Devil’s Advocate, modding is strictly ILLEGAL in Japan. Nintendo cannot legally publicly condone modding in any way because it is a Japanese corporation. It doesn’t matter if it’s legal for you in your own country, they can’t advocate for it.
It’s very similar to Chinese knockoffs. Just because China doesn’t respect copyright and patent laws doesn’t make it right to support knockoffs. An American corporation would probably not advocate for knockoffs (yet still abuse China’s loose labor laws, but that’s a different subject), just as Nintendo, a Japanese corporation, would probably not advocate for modding in any way. It doesn’t matter if copyright infringement is legal in China, or if modding is legal in America, at the end of the day, both are illegal in the country of origin (Japan), and must be respected by the corporation based in Japan.
Your "id sell my switch and never buy a nintendo product again, from a company that hates my kind" is really jumping the gun.
@@thuggins2086 Nintendo is probably the harshest on mods and emulation of any video game company out there. I personally feel it is to their detriment overall, but I understand why they do it, and part of it revolves around IP law, particularly in the US. If they could somehow not fight every battle without losing IP rights then I think they could probably benefit from the additional integration of their IP within the social world.
Pretty sure it was the emulator stuff that got him dropped from the program, I think it's safe to say Nintendo corporate really doesn't like it when you show you can play Nintendo games on non-Nintendo hardware.

It's stupid because that was my favorite video in awhile and it made me want to play the new Zelda which I had no interest in before so they almost sold another switch but then they did this and now I'm like meh I can wait to buy it cheap second hand
@@mrshmuga9 not all nintendo themed channels are part of the ambassador program,Wood's new status for Nintendo proves that...They will still give him review codes...So PeanutButter may not be an ambassador as well.
He also did a joycon mod video ages ago...and in that video he injured himself doing the mod. Granted he repeated to not try this without experience regardless he was modding (and therefore voiding warranty) on his controllers. With that said, Nintendo didn’t complain then, why now?

Rich, a counter argument for Nintendo possibly dropping Woods because of his talking about depression and doing charity streams for it, is that they would have dropped him a long time ago if that was the case. He did a lot of charity live streams over the years and has talked about depression more than a few times.

Me too. I haven't watched his videos in a long time because my fiance and I were packing boxes so we could move into our home. Once I saw the thumbnail for that video, I watched it instantly. I don't think he should've posted that video about him modding Breath of The Wild. Nintendo is quite protective of their intellectual properties.
It sucks, but it really doesn't matter. Wood didn't benefit from Nintendo, pretty much at all, Nintendo is the one that benefited a TON from Wood.
Wood will keep making the same great Nintendo themed content. He's still supposed to be getting the same benefits he was getting (game codes and occasional event invites). Just keep supporting Wood and nothing will change.

Me too. The guy literally lives and bleeds Nintendo. It upsets me to see them trash him for what is seemingly trash reasons.
I'd be willing to bet that the Zelda mod video is 110% the reason why he got dropped. He's been advocating for mental health for years now and he said himself that his content was all over the place with his personality being the only consistent thing and considering he's been working with them since 2013 it's probably safe to say that's not what nintendo had an issue with. Showcasing mods on a product when you have a partnership with the company behind it and a large influence on their customer base was a major error on his part. He's not the first and he's unlikely to be the last person in the gaming community to lose a partnership over mods. The only bright side is they didn't do much for him to begin with so his channel hopefully won't take a hit.

As others have stated, I think the biggest factor in Nintendo deciding to drop Wood was that he emulated and modded Breath Of The Wild on pc a week before they elected to drop him. I'm not saying this as criticism of Wood.

Companies hate criticism even more than that, although Nintendo is especially picky about doing anything with their licenses.
Maybe they were just looking for an excuse after the criticism. But companies don't always see everything. They might have realized his video criticising them existed a long after he posted it.

BeatEmUps losing their Nintendo Ambassador program thing... I honestly had no idea he was affiliated with NIntendo whatsoever... and I often found him often quite critical of Nintendo, despite he posted about them a LOT... I am not entirely surprised Nintendo would distance themselves from him to some degree

I think it's definitely because of his content. He used Cemu. Nothing else really fits. There are many times where companies don't tell you the actual reason for their actions.
not just that, he'll make reviews and not even fully give a game a chance. he always mocks xenoblade 2 as if its the worst game ever when he just sucked at the game because he didn't bother to pay attention because he just wanted to breeze through the game with auto attack when you can't do it because its not made for that with its battle system, which he didn't even try to learn. heck he even made a video where he'd say he was trying the game again and he kept dying to the unique monster boss he was supposed to skip. and never bought pouch items for his arts. the guy never made it past chapter 3 when things pick up in the story, because he quit too early and stayed too long in torigoth. so many reviewers have debunked his review too, one of my favorite reviews being neogamespark, who had the same opinion at first and then went back to the game for 2 more impression reviews and ended up loving the game.

Ugh, retail jobs. They really can be the worst sometimes. The one thing I hated the most about working at Old Navy was that you have to convince people to sign up for an Old Navy credit card. I never did it because I thought it was stupid and I always got a talking to over it. I felt like doing it would ruin a customer's experience because you have to mention three benefits of the card before you're able to stop bringing it up...as if one no wasn't enough! And yeah, you always have to have a smile, even if it's fake. You're definitely not allowed to be a human. I compare it to working at a Disney park: you have to create a great atmosphere for customers because they don't want to see employees anything other than happy. You're absolutely right about corporations only caring about money.
The mental health video is the exact reason I immediately thought was why Nintendo did what they did. It’s completely wrong but I could see it being a reason a company would want to distance themselves from someone. It’s completely terrible for choice of a better word and you would think companies would want to show a more positive role in discussions like these but it’s all come down to them saving face. Smh

They know that most UA-camr gets older they afraid that the only job will get is packing at Walmart... And that heartless... @@TristcuiT24 The legality of it is grey. Is not illegal, but companies can still shut em down if they want to. But in doing so, they're getting rid of older games not even available digitally. The point of emu is to preserve games. Is like a digital museum. To completely shut them down would mean we will lose those old games.
If Nintendo doesn't like emulation, they're always welcome to release their library on the PC. As well as the Switch. Nintendo is just that old grandpa stuck in his old ways.

I think a good example of this is the Raycon ads that so many UA-camrs have. and as much as I'll make fun of Rich for things like the Amico, I don't ever hold an advertisement against him. Gotta survive on UA-cam. Besides I got a Satisfye Gaming Grip because of him and its great. But every Raycon ad is nearly identical across every single video. It's all extremely sterilized. And that's not to say it's the exact same situation, but it does say lot when a channel usually really personalizes their ads for other products but they can't really do that with Raycon. They mention the same talking points and are most likely reading from nearly identical copies, because Raycon has a very particular brand image in mind that they won't deviate from. This isn't really a problem for the sponsorships, but the problem is, UA-cam and the advertisers on UA-cam expect that same level of sterilization

If someone watching wants to mimic his mods, they would most likely have to go through downloading abunch of 3rd party software which would mess with Nintendo's profit and business values.

Corporations(the bigger the worse) certainly are the real world embodiment of greed at least. Not just “we like money” either but more like “money is the only thing that matters”, treating people not like people but expendable resources that can just be replaced, except that’s not going to last forever. If people can’t feed themselves then they certainly can’t start families and have even more mouths to feed and then what? Not that it matters as long as they can make a profit this year and keep investors happy, because who cares about the future anyway? Guess all those high paid executives are going to have to learn how to make their products for themselves when theses nobody else around anymore. The top 1% are going to start having to grow their own food, on Mars probably, seems to be their goal. Well they might be able to make machines do that for them, but they’ll probably still need maintenance so now they’re graduated to mechanics instead of farmers. Cold is a heart of gold.

Despite owning the game, downloading the ISO is still piracy and, depending on where you are, ripping the ISO from your own copy may also be considered piracy. I'm not sure if Cemu has an option for running the emulation from a disc, in which case it may be unambiguously legal, but it's unlikely due to the fact that you need special hardware to read the propriety Wii and Wii U discs, which store information in a reversed order to what standard disc drives are built to read. This is all to say that, no obviously mods are not piracy, but the way that he played the game with the mods may fall under piracy is some places. We don't have enough information to say one way or the other, but Nintendo isn't suing him they're just dropping him as an ambassador, and thus do not need any proof of anything really.
He bought the game so it makes no difference whether he emulate it or not. Plus it's actually legal since emulation is reversed engineered. However, pirating is not legal. Which he didn't support, he again has the game.
