it wasn't so much the modding of the game that made Nintendo drop beat-em ups..it was the fact that he was playing said game on an emulator which Nintendo despises

No wood made a video playing botw on pc with mods. This the real reason you know Nintendo doesn't want their games on pc. Emulation of old games is debatable but a game that nintendo still selling promoting an illegal version is not okay. It wood fault.

Nintendo will always make great games, but their PR / copyright policies / ambassador program /eShop / game prices are all TRASH. If Sony or Microsoft pulled any of this BS they would be cancelled.

Not Yet You’re delusional or a crack addict if you think paying $60 for three year old games, and $50 for ports of PS3 / 360 games is even a remotely fair price. Nintendo are about as anti-consumer as you can get for a publisher.
Nintendo Ambassador and Twitch Council seems similar to me with what's going on. Non paid group working for a corporation that does some questionable practices. It's like a volunteer job for Influencers.
At least the Nintendo Ambassador program has great people apart of it.

Hope you enjoy it! The Nintendo 3DS family has a great library. Nintendo handhelds in general (minus the Virtual Boy) have generally had decent libraries. Take it from a guy who's played every Nintendo handheld and who owned every revision of every handheld system at one point.

At this point Nintendo has seperated itself from the gaming industry, and become more of a culture that they're trying to protect at all costs.

Huh? i've gotten 3 refunds for games on the Eshop (i didn't play them at all so maybe that was why they said yes) but they were for Pokemon Sword, XBC2 Torna: The Golden Country (friend sold me his code for it at way cheaper price), and Thumper.
Sure its more of a hassle compared to Sony/Microsoft/Steam. But i've haven't been refused one so far.
That’s the issue though they make i harder than the other so you are likely to not refund.

That isn't true at all. The history of Nintendo has shown that not only has the company been criticized, but suffered from those business choices as well.

You obviously don't understand that BeatEmUps had the last few games BEFORE his ambassadorship was terminated. Nintendo sent him the games SPECIFICALLY to overview/review them. That takes time. So how exactly can you say BeatEmUps is still receiving free games after the fact when it takes time to finish a game. Think before you comment homie

They definitely didn't drop him for his multiple negative reviews, since those happen often and nothing changed for years. I agree with your opinion on them probably wanting to reform their program and looking for reasons to drop people, with the mod video just being uploaded at the worst possible time.
I heard he would still get review codes, just not be allowed to publicly associate with them anymore. But after this Twitter crap, though, idk man...

I don't think Nintendo dropped him for his mod video. It's now starting to come out that Wood wasn't the only ambassador who was dropped, it seems to me what happened was Nintendo created a new program and needed to thin the herd a bit, and Nintendo themselves said it had nothing to do with his content, he had multiple Nintendo reps tell him that. I don't think it was any negativity he expressed towards Nintendo either, considering there are multiple Nintendo ambassadors who are critical of Nintendo in multiple areas, and are still ambassadors. Arlo is the best one I think of, he's an official Nintendo ambassador, and he's well known for being very critical of Nintendo. Heck, his video on why he criticized Nintendo over Paper Mario Color Splash is a big event that made him popular. Most Nintendo ambassadors are given freedom to speak their minds it seems, as long as they keep their criticisms civil, which I think is a perfectly fair expectation. Basically just don't go saying Switch Online is a piece of garbage. It doesn't matter if that's true or not, you should word it a different way that's more professional. Instead of calling it garbage, you can say it's a disappointing service that needs a lot of work to have value. When you word your criticisms in a professional manner, that seems to be when Nintendo is willing to listen to criticism, most companies are like this actually. But in any case, I don't think these are the reasons they dropped Wood. In my opinion, I think they dropped him because he is getting to be a huge channel, and as you said, Nintendo probably doesn't want to associate themselves with larger creators too much out of fear of that Subway Jared moment. Nintendo instead likes to stick to working with smaller creators, and regardless of Nintendo's intent here, this is actually a really cool thing that Nintendo is doing. Keeping focus on smaller creators gives those small creators a chance to grow faster with Nintendo's help. Large creators are fully able to take care of themselves, but small creators are the ones who need the boost. Heck, for all we know that very well could be Nintendo's intention, we don't fully know. So in any case, focusing on small creators, regardless of intent, is a good thing for small creators.

the argument i see people putting forward is that nintendo is much more heavy handed then the rest of the companies that are within the industry. They have comparable i.p's to protect with teams of lawyers. How come they don't operate in a similar fashion?

Note that they're super heavy handed on Pokemon, and things got worse after they started actively launching in markets that are infamous for shoddy bootlegs.

I’m not sure about online policies, but working in retell, I learned that federal (U.S) copyright laws make it so that video games after being opened cannot be returned. In some cases they can be exchanged but other then that, it’s yours once you open it. (It’s why most big retells won’t take it back instead exchange, unless it’s faulty or a physical copy cannot be replaced) Seeing that steam has a return policy online, I’d be curious to know if the laws are only applied to physical properties or if the product has to be registered as two entities digital or physical? I know nothing about law, but it would be nice to have someone from the legal field provide some insight. Nintendo’s e-game no refund policy, seems to follow its physical store policy counterpart. Anywhoo, thanks for another insightful video.

It’s not that I necessarily disagree with your criticisms, but it still feels like desperately reaching. MS and Sony don’t have return policies either (Sony just got sued millions of dollars for it!). So criticize away, but it’s disingenuous to imply any other console is any different. Personally, I don’t care. I think people should research what they buy first. They are heavy handed with IP protection, for sure, but... I just don’t care that much? They’re not ruining anyone’s lives by a takedown notice for an Unreal Engine game. It’s just not that serious.

And the only people they have sued is those who illegal sale ROMs.
deucezulu22 they can go ahead and sue ROMs and emulator sites that use Nintendo brands. But fair use allows the consumer to make videos on Nintendo without asking for permission. They’re not hurting Nintendo’s profits by doing small fan made Nintendo levels in other video games.

look. The situation is simple. Wood was losing some audience/views and started to become irrelevant. Because people would not click on his clickbaity titles and the video quality started to tank down. So he needed something to make him in the centre of the spotlight. That is all. Let's take Arlo. He is often critical about Nintendo and he still in the program. Why? Because he don't mod games. Also i remember The Completionist talking about his mental health issues etc, and he is still an ambassador. We know that Nintendo would DMCA your Princess Peach castle level in DREAMS, the level you would gain no profit at all. So if there is a reason he got ditched - it is because of modding. And it is because of emulatiun. it is that simple. But look, it works. Now EVERYONE talks about poor Beatemups and evil Nintendo.
I just want them to FIX this bloody JoyCon drift issue instead of ignoring the problem!

I unsubbed to Beatemups almost two years ago. I have only been getting the news about it here. Hearing about this actually makes me wonder if he will start making content like he used to, and maybe I will sub to his channel again now.
Rich, you literally need to know that Nintendo has to defend their trademarks. Being on a moral highhorse isn't going to change the fact if they don't take down their protected works illegal use that they lose the right to the work. They didn't have a right to use Mario's likeness, they weren't licensed by nintendo, they didn't create those characters or settings.

All you've done is say the "legal" aspect of this situation, like we've seen a million times already. I have yet to see an actual good reason detached from what the law says as to why Nintendo has to be so paranoid over little fan mods that aren't detrimental to them in any way.

You want to sell figures of your characters, but there's already a market selling 3D prints of your characters without permission or license, if you want to continue your characters' trademark you MUST defend their use by third parties by taking down infringing content with impunity. There is no reason other than they do not own it, they are hurting your bottom line by restricting markets you can sell in by oversaturating the supply with unlicensed products. Wonder why there's no unlicensed Nintendo games anymore?
Sega isn't OKAY with Fan Games, they've also taken down some they are made known about.
Trademark laws that protect Nintendo also protect DeviantArt from being stolen from, you cannot take someone's art from Deviant art and put it into a commercial project without royalties of some kind being paid and possibly a lawsuit if you refuse the wishes of the owner of the property.

Plus, let's face it. Bigger UA-cam channels are less hungry due to their success. Smaller channels that are much lower on that ladder are more willing to play ball.

You know I've always said this, Nintendo IS the disney of videogame companies:
1.- they both have content that at first glance can be clasified as kid stuff but in reality attracts even more adults than children
2.- they pretty much made everyone's childhoods
3.- their mascots are the most recognizable icons of their respective mediums
4.- and finally..... they both have weird market policies and an unhealthy obsession of protecting their IPs
Is this still a tech channel? Looking through your recent videos, it doesn't appear that way.

To be fair, I agree that Nintendo's business practices are over the top however we need recognize this company has been around since 1889 and are last combined Hardware / Software manufacturer left from the 1980's. Their licensing practices in the 80's were questionable but it protected them from the Master System. They've taken out everybody Sega, Atari, NEC, etc. Heck even Sony and SNK went after a piece of their handheld market and we know how that ended. Also realize that there was PS5 reveal along with the Series X reveal but did it matter? Switch's are still sold out everywhere. So yes they're over the top, protective, and finicky but it's worked for them and we still to this day buy their products just as we did in 1985.

No Rich, his review on XBC2 was actually pretty damn bad, I just went to watch it and it's a joke. If he thinks Nintendo cut him loose because of it he might be on to something because he reviewed the game without getting too far in and accused it of being easy while staying in the beginning (and easy) stages of the game. On top of other non existent issues he claimed.
Extremely bad take, which makes me question why he didn't simply say he just didn't like the game instead, that would have been a lot fairer to it.
I didn't even know about Beatumups until I got recommended that video by Google of all things on my phone. Considering he is still getting review copies, Nintendo looks like they are still trying to milk him for all he's worth

Different circumstances but this is really similar to how Gmanlives got dropped by EA because they made a bad game and he told people.
He was doing the same content to the quality his followers expected and he was punished for it by a big company.

no, the program is to help out smaller creators, and the smaller creators will also bring in a new audience as well because it is a different market they appeal to - if you just help the big content creators you just making the rich become richer and does not help themselves out at all since it is marketing to the same audience that you already have

As I recall mods are illegal in Japan under any circumstances. Most of these terrible consumer practices aren't coming from Nintendo, they're coming from Japan. Technically you can get 5 years in jail and a massive fine for altering game data. @reviewtechusa

If people didn't love Nintendo, no one would bat an eyelash at their occasional bullheadedness.
I love nintendo but they dont realize if it wasnt for the consumer they wouldnt be where they are today makes me sad

only seen a few of your vids, but liking your content so far, keep doing what you do. But I do feel there's a little hypocrisy in slating people for promoting things that are rubbish then telling people that if they join that they get access to "cool emoticons to use when you live stream."
