    My uncle was 600+ pounds for the majority of the time i knew him. Even he realized that being like that was unhealthy, that it was awful for him. He ultimately ended up getting surgery to help him lose weight, and now hes making strides to maintain it. My cousin also suffered from being obese, and he made strides to lose weight as well. He looks much better, and seems far happier.
    Honestly, I have to give props to all of you that have made this journey to lose weight. It's an honest struggle, and takes a lot more than people would think. So congrats to all of you, especially you, Rich.

    We need more people like you that have lost significant amounts of weight to talk about the reality of it. Going from morbid obesity to a healthy weight is not an easy undertaking in just about every regard. Physically, emotionally it is a long tedious process that in no way is comfortable. The task can seem insurmountable. Then when these people who desperately need lose weight TO LIVE they hear people saying it is not necessary. That is irresponsible and VERY dangerous. It causes those that are needing to lose weight to save their long term health question the process.. which could lead to their early demise. Thank you Rich! You could of just saved someone's life and your efforts are appreciated.

      It actually kinda is an easy undertaking. Stop pushing boulders up hills... Calorie restriction and hitting the gym don't exactly work. If it did work then I would have been in shape after age 15 because I did increasingly more activity and calorie restriction and I would hardly lose any weight.
      Eating keto, low carb, high fat, the way that I avoided because every time I said I wanted to try it I was told "You'll die of a heart attack" as well as intermittent fasting is how I destroyed my hypoglycemia.
      I literally did Keto because "Worst case scenario my fat is going to kill me so either way at least I get to eat delicious foods I've been avoiding." and now here I am from my high of 360+ (scale stopped working at 360) down to 232 because I eat more like a tribal warrior and less like... well... a vegan... Vegans tell me "Sphaghetti and rice and things like that are filling!" except that they spike your insulin, and when that falls your ghrelin (hunger hormone) increases, and your leptin (satiation hormone) decreases, and you get hungry again...
      Plus some of the weight I'm losing is with multi-day fasts, and when you do weight loss that way not only does the weight come off fast, but you lose a lot of saggy skin!

It's reminding you that you are sick and you need to do something about it.

      Also applies to being underweight. Having a normal BMI is extremely advantageous to your health. I'm getting borderline overweight and I'm responding by altering my diet, intermittent fasting and swimming laps every day at my local pool.

      @MR.LMR1996 4 роки тому +2

      Isn't the BMI system outdated by today's medical standards as well?
      From what I heard you need to compare your overall height to the radius of your gut area in order to figure out where you stand on the weight chart.

    • @NotAnotherKuromi
      @NotAnotherKuromi 4 роки тому +2

      @@MR.LMR1996 The BMI scale is still a very good indicator for the majority of people. The only people it isn't very accurate for is those who have large muscle mass & they are probably going to know about health & exercise which is how they got so ripped.
      People try to say they are "big boned" but those people are usually just overweight & denial. There are factors like bone size, density, frame, etc but for a basic are you underweight, overweight or in a healthy area of the scale, it is still pretty damn accurate.

    I'm a Personal Trainer and what I love to see is over weight people in the gym consistently working out safely. Because I like the fact that they're doing something to get healthy.

    • @makaisenki
      @makaisenki 5 років тому +3

      I would rather have people learn how to eat right first. THEN they can go to the gym after they have a foundation of health. What's the point in a bunch of skinny people who are on a bunch of anti-psychotics, because they have an MTFHR gene mutation and don't realize that going over 30 carbs a day is why they are having mental issues.
      We gotta fix people's diets. When I don't go to the gym, that's because I have workout equipment at home that I use. I'm actually moving into an apartment with a gym and a pool though I don't need them. I'm more than happy to take my resistance bands and go to a park and do a full workout there.
      My friend doesn't like going to the gym by himself, he can't motivate himself, so I had been going to the gym with him in the morning just to help him out. He's got a Planet Fitness Black Membership card so I would just tag along with him. With my new apartment and his hours switching at work, we're going to have to figure out if he wants to cancel his membership or what. His girlfriend has a black membership too, so he could end up going with her.
      However because he stopped going to the gym he stopped losing weight. He has a very active job. Where as I have a cleaner Keto diet than he does, more carnivore, and I'm still losing weight. I also have way better control of my hunger. I'm literally 28 hours into a 36 hour fast. He has tons of loose skin because he didn't fast any of his weight so he got very minimal autophagy. He went from 500 down to 220, back up to 280 and since June is back down to 260.
      I was 360+ (scale stopped working) 2 years ago, and I'm down to 232, but probably lower because I weighed myself this morning, and literally have had nothing but high quality salt and water since yesturday, so tomorrow morning I might see a pound or more fall off. I was somewhat active at work. I had energy because I've trained my body to rely on fat, so my blood glucose is never affected.

    • @DZlegend
      @DZlegend 5 років тому +2

      @@makaisenki Yes nutrition is the most important part of any program. I'm just saying since I see them in the gym I would assume they're either teaching themselves how to eat right or have someone who is working with them on that. But unless they're training with me I can't see the eating portion of their program instead I just take note of them being in the gym and after a while if I see they've made results the conclusion would be that their eating habits were changed for the better. Also I don't like Planet Fitness at all. The ones I've seen lack so much equipment and their weights are lacking. Its fine for a beginner but once you push past the beginner stages PF isn't the best.

    Being underweight and abnormally weak is also not ok. Last year I was 16.5 years old and couldn’t do a single push-up. I was slightly underweight at about 5’11” and 136lbs with almost no muscle. I had my wake up call when I realized I was getting sick multiple times out of the year, much more sick than my friends suffering from similar illnesses, and too weak to beat a 2 year younger girl in an arm wrestle. Since then I’ve progressed in strength tremendously. I went from 0 pushups to 27; I went from 0 pull ups to 10; I went from struggling to do a single 20lb bicep curl to curling 30’s regularly at moderate rep ranges. It took me a while to really commit but since April I’ve been on the grind really pushing to get stronger. Being in shape changes your whole life.

      A good weight isn't necessarily tied to a specific number range either. Depending on height and build, being in the mid-200s(for example) is actually their "ideal" weight range. Not saying I know your situation but it's still important to remember that not all people are healthy at the same weight numbers. People need to work towards what is good for the particulars I mentioned above. Then you also have to factor in muscle weight and not work counter-intuitively to keep below a certain number.

      Zero calorie soda and zero sucre sodas are just as bad for you man. Unless you're diabetic, I'd suggest sticking with the regular sodas and just make sure you don't drink more cans than say three or so a day, preferably less. The big issue with diet soda and zero calorie sodas is what type of substitutes are included. Many of those are in fact WORSE than the sucre. Oh and no diet soda will ever help you lose weight. If anything, you'd probably gain weight if you drink too many diet sodas. Not even joking! You'd be better off drinking water instead.

    This video was and is insanely important, sure you shouldn't make fun of a person for being overweight, but you also absolutely shouldn't accept the false reality that it's okay to be fat. Sure you're not hurting others, but you are ABSOLUTELY hurting yourself. It cuts your lifespan so heavily, and during the life you live that's now shorter, it has much more suffering.
    I'm currently at around 235ish and I'm actively going to the gym, i got way too complacent and I refuse to keep the weight on me. Too many nights of mtn dew and sitting for insane periods of time.

    From experience I can say, the way you feel about yourself, your presence, your confidence, and the way people interact with you is like night and day depending on how you look. Right now I'm a little over 200 so on the chubby side, and I feel like a disgusting mess and it only adds to my depression. It's not worth it to be fat guys, life is short. Eat less. 2) nobody "needs" a personal trainer, we are a luxury. The advantage a good trainer has it it helps simplify the process, keeps them accountable, and helps them learn the basics
      3) ill flat out tell everyone "you don't need my help, you just need to do xy and z. I can just help with x y and z"
      4) most people just dont know enough of what is bs(honestly a lot of social media fitness is total bs amd it pisses me off) and what is actual good information. Hopefully a good trainer should be honest with what actually works. Heres a hint, its incredible simple, it isn't complex. People just try to make it complex when it doesnt need to be

    So part of the reason my last relationship ended was I needed to start a diet because of a horrible back injury and my fat stomach causing unnecessary strain on it. My girlfriend wasn't supportive of it and in fact was a believer of the movement you speak of in this video. She was about 400 lbs and a foot shorter than me and she's still doing poorly with her weight because of her attitude but because I realized my eating disorder and reliance on comfort eating, I've lost 68 lbs so far in 1 year. I'm continuing to go until my body won't keep losing on the diet I'm on and even beyond that, I'll watch what I eat. I weigh 285 pounds and I totally agree with you rich, being fat should never be normalized. I used to weigh 225 pounds less than 6 years ago, and I hate how I look. My stamina is nowhere near where it used to be, and I was happier in absolutely every way when I was in better shape. I have made the decision very recently to change my lifestyle, how I eat, how I spend my time, and how I see things. I am sick of the man I see in the mirror, and I’m going to change that.

    So i never saw the first being fat is not ok video but after watching this vid i am inspired to continue on my own personal journey to being the best me i can be. As of June 1st 2019 i was at my heaviest at 396lbs This was an eye opener so immediately i stopped drinking soda of any kind it was tough but i did do it then in mid august i was hospitalized for having shortness of breath and not enough oxygen getting to my heart i was there for 2 days and was hooked up to a breathing machine and it was at this point i realized i needed to make more changes in my life and i did that got rid of fast food and pastries as well also i started going to the gym 3 times a week and as of today i have shed 46 lbs and i am on my way to my goal of 200. Thanks Rich for making this video its encouraging to be on a similar journey with you and it seems like others by the comments i have read. Keep it up everyone and we shall overcome this fight for our lives by conquering this food struggle.

    Its really refreshing to see people, that even though they are part of a group of people that are doing something wrong, or have something wrong with them, they still admit that things are not right and need to change. I literally used to be 95 kgs (209 pounds) and i was only in middle school, 1.86 (6.1). After a year, i made the decision to start losing weight, and now that i just finished school i lost about 30 kgs (66) and i realized how much better things are. Its easier for me to get out of bed, its easier for me to make the decision to start doing projects that must be done, i could breath more easily, i could speak more easily, and most importantly, people didnt pity me. Managing to go through a day without getting full feels like such a day accomplishment every day, i just keep going without even trying. People need to stop telling lies so society will accept them, making other people fall for it without knowing the consequenses. We need more people like you.

    I see entire families at the store using the handicap scooters. From young teens to the adults. All of them morbidly obese. Myself, I was morbidly obese in my 40's. I was probably 450-460 at my biggest. I could not get into Walmart without stopping at the front of the store to rest. Then walking to the produce department and sitting down again. My life was planning how to get from one place to another without collapsing. My doctor told me that while it was a miracle I wasn't diabetic or having a heart issue, it was right around the corner. I lost weight eventually, and now I am at a healthy weight. I should be delighted, but I still hate that I was so big for that long and that I put my family through all that.
    I can't watch my 600 lb life, because I see the people mirroring what my behavior was. Good work on your weight loss, and keep on heading forward. It sounds like you have the right attitude.

      Yeah, I myself had a weigh of 224 Ib but when I saw it when I got on a scale I was shocked and decided to do a change in my life. I started to eat smaller portions and specific times when eating. It was really hard to do since I felt hungry all the time since my stomach was used to bigger potions but my body got used to it.
      I now can't eat as much as I used to do and I also can't eat as much candy anymore either since I also at the same time stopped eating candy and sweets. Getting ride of my sugar addiction was not easy either since I got some of the side effects like a headache for two weeks.
      Today I weight 200 Ib. It is not much but it is something and I have been feeling better and have the energy to do more. I am aiming to be at least 154 Ib since I am 6,3 inches tall.

    I have gone through health problems several times because of the way I ate. I almost developed diabetes, I went through gastroenteritis, I had inflammation in my intestine that caused me to lose weight, and made sensitive to food which gave me diarrhea. The inflammation in my intestine lasted months(ulcer). Sometimes my lungs would fill up with saliva because my body was starving and under weight. I felt fatigue, a little dizzy, my body cell and bone density were lower, and my immune system was weaker.
    I finally got back to my normal weight about a few weeks back and my inflammation disappeared. The doctors were not useful so I had to learn how to deal with my body by myself. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time that I had to change my eating life style.

    I'm at 366, the highest I've ever been in my life. All my joints hurt. I don't sleep well. I get winded too easy. I feel exhausted ALL THE TIME. And I finally realized I need a new start and am going for the bipass surgery. The issue was overeating and not being active...but also my desk job has me coming home like 8pm every night. There's just no time to exercise like a mad man to get that weight down to good standing...so I had to take extreme measures with going with the surgery. THEN after, remembering how terrible it was being this weight and not overeating and maybe just doing a walk everyday to keep the pounds down and off. Those that accept this weight are those that have given up and don't TRULY care anymore. I hear ya brother! Here's to being real, losing the pounds for US and not everyone around us. We need to accept the change, live the change and work that change!

      Stay away from fatty foods, bad carbs and avoid soft drinks. Watch your calories and do a decent amount of jogging/running. Whatever other exercises you decide to do is up to you. Brings some friends to. Just don’t talk the entire time you’re there.

    I love this video. The part about being around people who tell you like it is is so important. Years ago I worked with a guy who didn't pull any punches. After I gained a bunch of weight he started calling me "puffy". He retired, I picked up mountain biking, and when he stopped in a few years later the first thing he said to me was "you look less fat." Best compliment and motivation I've ever gotten. The fact he was honest at my worst made his "compliment" mean that much more.
    You're looking great man. Keep it up 💪

    • @NotAnotherKuromi

      That's really nice. The amount of people who do not want to hear the truth is shocking. Not even not hearing the truth but wanting to lie & for me to say awful behaviour is ok, or healthy, it is way too common.
      I used to be a teacher & kids liked me because I was always honest. If I knew a kid hadn't done their best I first asked why, then helped them or told them to try better next time. If I gave a compliment it was not niceties but I really meant it.
      I treat children like young people, as individuals who make mistakes & all have a talent. Other teachers misconstrued my honest, straightforward approach as the kids not respecting me but the children not only respected me but wanted to please me & trusted me.
      There was one teacher who didn't like me, she scared kids & didn't seem to understand kids in one class aren't flipping clones. She made kids afraid & cry if they were unable to answer a question, yet she thought that was good teaching! She had an odd way to concentrate on one piece of work as if it was the be all & end all but not take the big picture into consideration at all. (For example a little girls big brother was in hospital requiring a blood transfusion & surgery for his IBD, it's hardly suprising she couldn't bring her A game to your poetry assignment!) I don't know if she was too unintellegent to notice & take into consideration all factors affecting each individual student, or if she literally thought her approach made the class perform better... Hint, it didn't.
      Nevermind making 5-7 year olds hate English classes from a young age & relate it to fear, emotional pain & feeling useless. Looking back I really wish I had said something to the head teacher, I was only a trainee at the time & assumed this 40 year old teacher would be someone to look up to & learn from, turns out it was an example of all of the ways not to teach or care for children.

    I decided that for once In my life I had to exercise discipline, I had to give things up and I had to make smart choices.
    All it took was downloading my fitness pal, learning to watch everything I eat, And get used to the idea of being hungry by intermittent fasting, and now I've lost 37 lbs.
    Everyday and every second the past is I feel more and more energetic, healthy, free. Everyday breathing becomes easier, everyday become less winded by doing anything.
