This review was incredibly informative and straightforward. Thank you for putting it together and giving an honest opinion. You highlighted important aspects for my decision-making. I bought this laptop because of your review. Thunderbolt 4 is the only missing piece, but you convinced me this thing was a performer. And it is a performer! Thank you Lon! It's been great, even better than I was expecting. I've bought a lot of products based on your reviews.
LonBall: since this product features IMAX you’ll likely have 10 or 20 people huddled around your laptop to watch Stranger Things season nine. That’s too many people so don’t get this.
It would be great if you could also test fan noise during web browsing (5-10 tabs), office work or watching 4k youtube videos. That's the use cases where many people, including me, want it to be as quiet as possible.
I have this laptop from 1 week but the ram 32 gb, I bought it from China, but I have some lags in mouse pointer I saw it on the screen like duplicate. Do you face this problem or you have a solution for this issue.
I just worry about burn in, even with all the mitigations they bake in to them. It seems like if you want a higher spec these days, you’re forced to go with a oled display.
I got this laptop and love it, but the fan basically never shuts off. Something simple like a UA-cam video make the fan kick in even harded, but there is no quiet mode or anything like that. Has anyone had this problem or should I just return it.
This looks like a good machine for a software developer like me. Just wondering how’s the battery life on Ubuntu? I heard that most x86 laptops would have shorter battery life when running Linux, as it’s not as optimized as windows. Would like to see a comparison.
Maybe it really depends on the nature of the software you develop. Maybe you have the time and patience to wait for the assembler and linker to compile before going on a recreational cocaine binge... *Well do ya?*
Hi I just got this laptop. The blue one. Bit strange color but ok. Unfortunately the sound works but after running windows update and install the latest realtek driver the sound is broken. The audio service start to have issues and in the lower right corner the volume icon says no audio device installed. Did my Google work but didn't find a solution that worked. Apart of that. Goog in games, high pitch noise of (just) 1 cooling fan. Screen oled is great as well as the IR webcam. Build quality is Okey but clearly not my elitebook from work. Love the small 65w adapter. Overall a good buy. Fan is the biggest flaw though
Solution is found. The laptop seems to be picky on usb-c docks. Stupidly a Logitech webcam causes the error of 'no audia device' when plugged via the dock. Got this tip from redit and it works now. (not using the Logitech webcam) though other laptops didn't had this issue it's ok for now. Hope it helps someone
Above average specs for a mid-range laptop. Not sure it would be my first choice in that sub-£1000 bracket, especially as we only get Intel in the UK. I did manage to buy a Galaxy Book 3 Pro 16 360 5G base model for £800 (on eBay new) which is a premium laptop and although only 8GB/256GB/i5 it is enough for my office and basic use.
I'm not sure where did you looked but hp, lenovo, Acer and Asus has amd books in UK. Personaly ATM I'm looking between this hp and Acer model with amd cpu.
Not sure this machine is for. 120 fps seems like it would be gamers. Otherwise I think I can think of several other machines better equipped for less than $900.
I bought this laptop for productivity work and light content creation. 120fps is a game changer for fluidity and responsiveness. So much nicer than 60fps
You got better eyes than me buddy. I honestly have both and can not tell the difference between 60 & 120. I think I need new lenses. LOL!@@jeevejavari8461
It would have been far better and worth buying for two changes. Non soldered RAM or at the very least option for 32GB of RAM. Dedicated power plug. I do not trust the durability of any USB port, and relying on them for power is just dead man walking for the laptop, if you use it often.

I was looking for a review for this laptop and so I was happy to see this in video in my notifications! Thanks for the great video as usual Lon!

Thank you, found this laptop at 600+
Shame about the lack of TB/USB4.
Puzzling why the 7840U doesn't have USB4 support since it is baked in to the chipset. Maybe HP decided to nerf it since it isn't an Elitebook.
Which is very frustrating. Intentionally nerfing a powerful chip is common amongst OEM, even Apple doing it to certain degree.
This is a really nice machine. I love the configuration

I just bought it, in tranquil pink...it is very nice and I like it so much.
@@sassymonica is tranquil pink like rose gold?
@@ilovesummer9750 yes it looks like a rose gold but the color is very subtle...
@@sassymonicahow do you like it? I'm thinking of getting it
@@allworksnew it's working fine, no problem at all, I like the tranquil pink colour too.

Well, its the same about phone now, i have used oled phone for many years and there is no burn in, my daily usage is 8 hours
did you notice a battery impact when running Linux?
these are also shipped with 120hz ips displays

Dude thank you! I have an LG gram style and it always messes up when I use my webcam plugged into my dock.
Im thinking about buying the base model for 530$ (R5 7540, IPS 1200p). are there any better options?

With the excellent 780m integrated GPU and high-end mobile CPU, it can push e-sports to above 120 FPS.

I think even Apple worked that out and returned to MagSafe as a precaution. No doubt Apple has the data to make decisions like that.
