Also the way this show depicted Wilhelm anxiety was so raw and honest. Even right down the first kiss scene. Never have I held my breath while watching a kiss scene. It was real and sincere. You rarely see that anymore. The actor who played Wilhelm is beyond talented.
Yeah it’s amazing how they depicted his anxiety, like it was so subtle but at the same time completely on display, and it provided so much character depth to him? I can’t believe the actor for Wilhelm is only 18 because he’s so incredibly talented
Yes. Edvin (Plays Wilhelm) talked about how he has experienced anxiety and panic attacks and really tried to put everything into all the anxious scenes and hoped he portrayed them properly.
He is so, so, so talented. The way he expressed the emotions especially his anxiety was so realistic. Never have I felt so connected to a character before… I held my breath so many times. It felt like I was there with him, that’s how realistic the scenes and emotions were. Also, the actor who played Simon is really talented too and I just found out it’s his acting DEBUT?? the cast is GOLDEN
I love how Felice did not villainize Sara for kissing August well in fact, August kissed her without consent. This shows that despite knowing that August cheated on her, she only expressed her anger on August and not Sara.
Me too. That happens all the time in other movies - characters are angry at each others and friendship / relationship drama is dragged out because the characers aren’t given a chance to explain.
Just to clarify - Wilhelm is NOT explicitly said to be gay. He could be bi etc, an interview with the actors made it clear that his sexuality was very intentionally left unlabelled and fluid.
Yes, thank you for re-iterating my thoughts! Since I finished 'Young Royals', I have been reading every single media review of it, and they all say something along the line of "Wilhelm, the Crown Prince of Sweden... gay...". We weren't given much detail on his life and relationships before Hillerska, but the only male seen to interest Wilhelm is Simon. Also, the kissing scene between him and Felice was initiated by her (meaning she had feelings - it could have been more that her mother's incessant pestering got to her and she realised the perfect moment for any further actions to occur between them - for him) and he denied any romantic feelings for her immediately. But that doesn't mean he's gay, or not bi or pan. With Wilhelm's strange circumstance of being royalty and the next in-line for the throne, it means he can only really have "the one" by his side, and that may just be Simon. I think so many forget that being gay is encompassing romantic and/or sexual attraction towards those whose are cisgender or identify as being male. Like I said before, we don't know much about his past, but his only interest was ever Simon. This doesn't mean that the creators are homophobic and that denying labels for Wilhelm is that he, himself, is homophobic (he could have internalised homophobia, but that is yet to be explored and could just be affected by his position). Also, just because Simon is gay doesn't mean that Wilhelm is too. Being in a relationship with someone doesn't erase the other identities, genders, or sexes you're attracted to. That's an individual realisation and understanding.
Yes, I was just about to comment that. He did not label himself. He may have been in denial about his feelings, not only because it is an attraction to a male but because he may also be attracted to females or other even other genders. I think this may be something they develop if we get a second season. Hopefully, we do. I'm hoping so hard. Already seen the show twice.
@@someoldytaccount also, of course internalised homophobia can do wonders with convincing you otherwise, but whenever anyone else specified ‘girlfriend’ toward Wilhelm, he didn’t seem uncomfortable at all, so i wouldn’t be surprised if he’s had one before or he’s fine with the idea of having a gf. They’re also just pretty young in general, so its not like he HAD to have a crush on a girl before Simon to necessarily define himself as bi or pan :)
@@EmilyLuves it seems like every gay show i see its either two gay guys in denial or one who is accepting and the other who is basically strictly straight but ‘only gay’ for the love interest. I also really hope they explore this further and we can get some different representation of a mlm relationship. This show has been SO good so far with showing an authentic LGBTQ+ experience, i really hope they further it.
@@meyu1468 Yes I am so tired of the 'gay only for you' trope. I realize anything can happen irl, but I feel a lot of creators fell back on this trope so they wouldn't have to delve into other sexualities than straight or gay. It's a disservice to the people who don't identify within these two categories. There are sexually fluid people, bi, pan, etc. The default shouldn't be straight or gay and I think being erased, ignored, and generally unaccepted is something a lot of ppl who dnt fall into the binary go through irl as well.
Can we talk about the fact that what August did would be classified as child porn, since they're all minors? like besides it being morally horrible, he should be facing legal consequences.
@@dominikag6232 Ok? And they ALL did drugs. Shit don't hate the player, hate the game. And he would've won too if Wilhelm didn't want to protect his lover.
@@montereyjackcheesestick8912 I was just joking 😂 of course it was shitty of them to blame it all on him but he'll be just fine in some other prestige school 😁
The part where Sara exposes her friend isn’t necessarily due to malicious intent and is more of her inability to read social cues. It’s a very common for individuals on the spectrum.
Exactly!! That inability to read social settings is pretty common for autistic people, what sara did in the last episode was pretty much the only thing that made me dislike her character
Yep. I didn’t know i wasn’t supposed to say certain things even when people behaved like they were confident with it if that makes sense? A couple years ago one of my friends came out to me but she seemed so confident with herself so i thought that meant i could talk about it loudly/to others. Ended up screaming something to do with her being gay really loudly in front of a lot of our peers… didn’t even realise until a year later that that probably wasn’t an appropriate thing to do.
yes and i think that's a nice thing the show is doing regarding autism because so many other things have only geniuses or sth as autistic characters and it's far from the majority but the lack of ability to pick on social cues is a much more common thing that is not very much shown on shows/films (like, there's sheldon in the big bang theory? and it's never actually said he's autistic so yea.........)
one thing i really liked was how close eric and wilhelm were as brothers, and not in that weird "hey brooo" way but genuinely close physically and emotionally, none of that toxic masculinity shit. the scene where they say goodbye at the school and they're hugging and wilhelm doesn't want to let him go almostmade me cry, it was so sweet and reminded me so much of my own family. and that the last conversation they had was just them messing around like brothers would. (also that was when i knew that eric was going to bite the dust cause there's no way they'll leave the supportive brother in lmao rip)
@@loulicious5882 YES I literally love Erik, the word basically translates to 'hookup' though so that's why Wilhelm got annoyed but it was really sweet to see them talk like that without Erik making it weird/heteronormative (plus he also says 'sleeping around' when talking to August about being promiscuous, instead of talking about girls :)
Omg someone also made a rlly good point about their brotherhood bc they theorized that Wille's love language is touch and that's why he always cuddles with Simon but that's also why he hugged Erik so hard before he had to leave 🥺 fuck I'm gonna cry it's so sweet
@@haley5735 I only noticed on my millionth rewatch that Erik holds onto Wille's arm tightly, after August fucks up and points out or maybe touches Wille's damaged face when they first get to the school. Wille is very cross that August took that liberty given they're not close. He doesn't say anything, he's just standing and scowling. Erik notices, and reaches out, also without saying anything, and is holding onto Wille's upper arm to calm and comfort him. He is an awesome big brother.
If I remember properly, August uploaded the video before he was called about his paid tuition. I could be wrong, but his guilty reaction to the call makes me remember the timeline happening in that sequence.
I feel like we’re really simplifying August’s actions to just outing. He literally recorded his cousin having sex, re-watched it and then uploaded it knowing that one more controversy in regards to Willhelm could cause serious trouble….. no matter what he does he literally can’t get redemption 💀 he betrayed Wilhelm, broke the trust if Wilhelm’s late brother, exposed Simone to the WORLD and caused trouble to not only Wilhelm but the whole monarchy exposing that Wilhelm might not be straight…… it’s beyond me 💀
No like he was honestly perverted! I kept screaming at him to stop watching that damn video and delete it😭He sat on that shit for a WHILE, and all it took was for Wille to expose his business for him to ruin his life. Then Wille helped him stay at the school and apologized to him about what he said AND AUGUST FELT NO TYPE OF REMORSE?! CUZ HE WAS JEALOUS?!
@@mylesthered3614 nah fr when he tried making excuses for that shit, I was beyond mad. Like really? You’re jealous so you think publicizing a SEX TAPE was the right call? Not to mention it was of his *cousin* a literal prince. His thought process was beyond me. Like I know he’s a bit of an elitist but people knowing you’re broke is not the end of the world. What was he gonna tell them when he wouldn’t be able to come back? His whole life was that school, were they supposed to believe he just left on a whim?
@@mylesthered3614 And when wille confronted him he said “idk it just happened”🤨 that does not “happen” he did that shit on purpose atleast take responsibility.
I like how, the whole personality of the 2 characters isn’t that they’re gay or queer. They actually have character depth, and the show doesn’t enforce the ‘funny, sarcastic, sassy and fashionable best gay friend’ trope. Like, it actually treats the characters as normal people.
@@niteski I completely agree, there’s something about Young Royals that just feels raw. It depicts much more realistic, healthy, and communicative relationship. Like they’re vulnerable with each other, they communicate their boundaries, needs, and feelings.
YESSS OMFG because irl only a select number of people can relate to that kind of representation like not every gay guy is like that and the media needs to stop acting like they are
Ok but the thing with Sara is, yes, she did terrible stuff but when she exposed Felice in front of her parents saying Felice doesn't like to ride that horse, I can understand it in consideration of her asperger's. My cousin has asperger's and she oftentimes says stuff that she doesn't know is inappropriate and that'll make people uncomfortable. Like she once exposed my sex life at the dinner table in front of my parents and she thought it was normal to do that until I had to tell her that it's not. Plus Sara struggled a lot finding friends and she obviously wants to stay at school to keep her friends and not be separated from them which is why she betrays her own brother. But not everything can be excused like that thing with August? Disghustang
I agree. I also think she just wanted to know what it was like to kiss+ a boy. Weather she becomes and ally with august and turns into a very unkind nasty person which is the vibes I got will change my optimistic opinion though. I have faith in the writers though because they handle everything unbelievably less toxic than other shows I’ve seen
agree!!! like the thing with the parents at the lunch I know happened bc of her Aspergers but her betraying Simon and sleeping with august had nothing to do with that like she made that choice being aware of how hurt Simon has been hurt bc of that other person
Yeah, I don’t really blame her for saying that thing about Felice. But what she did to her brother was inexcusable. Reconnecting with your father because you might have some parental insecurities is _very different_ from leveraging your brother’s illegally recorded CP for a freaking dorm room (from the criminal who did it). And then kissing said person. It’s vile and I wouldn’t blame Simon if he didn’t talk to her again, especially since he tries so hard to include her, cheer her up, and resolve conflicts with her mom. Sure, he doesn’t completely understand her situation-but he’s trying, and he’s a very caring older brother who loves her.
I literally CANT WAIT until Simon and Felice find out Sara slept with August (especially after Simon finds out she knew it was August who outed them from the moment it happened) that plot line is going to giveeeeeee in s2
I REALLY liked that there was no blurring filter on the faces of the characters, you see texture and acne. It made the show feel so realistic even though most of us aren’t a rich prince in sweden.
I have like crooked teeth n yellowy teeth that ive been so insecure bout since i was like 6 n wilhelm has the same discoloration n slight crookedness in his upper teeth n that honestly rly made me feel better bout myself like i wish more shows would show realistic stuff insteada teens with perfect skin and perfect bodies n everything
I don't agree that there's no character development, I feel like all of them started major journeys in their lives and changed a lot, but none of them completed that process of transformation, so that's why it doesn't feel like development yk? Which just makes even more the season 2 a NEED, none of it reached the ending by the finale and it's PAINFUL
Yeah there was major character development. Simon softened at first and grew a pair at the end. Wilhelm learned to calm down and enjoy life a lot more, and learned to ASK for what he wanted more. Felice grew the most, allowing a friend in her life to make her less self-centered and scared.
exactly! i think its a subtle character development, which is very realistic considering we dont go through major character changes out of nowhere. Simon learned that he has value like everyone else at the end, and wont let anyone “piss on him” any longer.
there's also the fact that the show begins when the school year has already started at least a few weeks since even first years don't seem *new* to the school like the choir is running fine and kids know how to act at dinner and stuff so it's probably mid september i'd say, and ends in mid december when the kids leave for the holidays break and there's only so much character development that can happen over the course of like three months. i graduated high school in 2008 so my memories are a bit fuzzy but i don't remember having evolved very much in my first term of high school lmao, i basically made a couple new friends and that's about it really, no big epiphany about anything or things that got majorly different by christmas break. just minor changes because life happens and it takes time for one's character to develop and i think the show is doing it well, these kids' journeys are just starting and they still have teenager peanut brains :')
okay but can we just talk about the amazing acting? it has been revealed that a few scenes were 100% improvised, such as the fish tank scene and the football field scene. the chemistry between all of the actors (ESPECIALLY edvin (wilhelm) and omar (simon)) is amazing and raw, which is really what put this show over the top for me. i really hope we get a season 2 of this masterpiece.
disagree about Sara. her actions at the end with August were inexcusable, but her earlier actions didn't strike me as malicious and more as evidence of her difficulty in social interactions being on the spectrum. as a fellow ND i related.
@@kill4oj same lol. im aware about sara’s difficulties but considering simon, whos done so much for her and she just betrays him like that ? pisses me off
@@kill4oj as a former ND teenager (same diagnosies as Sara) I gotta say impulse control and understanding the shitty implications and consequences of your actions is def not always all there.. In that scene it felts sadly familiar of crappy things I've done where the thought process was like 'this feels like maybe not a great thing to do but I don't fully understand why (not being able to conceptualize who you are hurting with your actions) so yolo lets do it'
But like Wille isn't really ashamed for his sexuality or denying it. I think he is just under a lot of pressure being the literal THRONEprince!!! I would even go as far as to say that this is the most special thing about this show, he has not a personal problem with his sexuality.
ok but you're totally right about how it ended and wilhelm's decision. it broke my heart because I love simon and wilhelm so much but they were able to do what was best for them. i also really, really loved how wonderful the communication was between them throughout the whole season. they fought and had disagreements, but instead of making assumptions or avoiding each other, they talked through it in a healthy way. smaller details like in episode 5 when they wake up after simon rescues wilhelm from the football field, wilhelm tells simon that he just wants him to hold him; and as small of a detail that is, that's not something i see that often in tv shows and movies. i think that it's a really good indication of how open they are with each other and how well they're able to communicate their feelings and desires. i wish this were more common in more media because I've always struggled with communication like that, but if i saw more of it in the stuff i watch, it would be more normalized and much easier i think
yes periodt! the way they communicated was just so healthy. they argues but they also met again to talk to each other about it after it. like in some shows you see couples fighting and then one of them is pissed and wont talk to the other one and ahhh thats frustrating and also rly not healthy for a relationship. also i loved that simon forgave wilhelm bec of the whole drug-selling thing. like ofc he was pissed and dissapointed but they talked about their feelings and simon was okay to forgive wilhelm.
@z right? it’s one of my favourite things about the show. also simon's relationship with friends and family. they were there for each other and so supportive.
@kammy hi, as a swede I can assure you that there are no such things as conversion camps here. Sweden is actually know for being one of the lgbtq friendliest countries in the world and people are really chill about stuff like that. The main reason Wilhelm coming out as gay or bi could effect the royal family poorly is because of the “successionsordningen” which is the law that dictates how the throne should be inherited. People would most probably discuss how Wille’s sexuality could make it difficult to “create” an heir. What happens if he has no children, if he adopts or use a surrogate etc.? Also we don’t have paparazzi, so it’s completely normal for only one photographer/journalist to show up outside Simon’s house
In a weird way, what Wille did was also in Simon’s best interest honestly. After August leaked the video, Simon couldn’t even go to the store without people reacting, his face was on the front cover of magazines calling him all types of names for sleeping with the prince and people where literally coming TO HIS HOUSE. Had Wilhelm chosen to go public both his and Simon’s lives would have been hell, their life together would have turned sour quickly cause of the pressure and they would have probably broken up in the long run. He was protecting his family, yes, but he was lowkey protecting Simon as well. EDIT: to clarify, I WAS NOT FOR IT AND I WAS BORDERLINE MAD AT WILLE BUT LIKE,, I ALSO FELT BAD FOR HIM.
@Alexander i see that and i 100% agree but i meant it more in the sense of “a sex tape with a ROYAL FAMILY MEMBER” vs “just a sex tape”. It’s still bad, but at least his name won’t be in the freaking news and gossip magazines for the rest of his life. Had the video leaked with no association to Wille, he would have probably been cheered for it because macho culture (?) or he would been made fun of for 2 days and it would have blown over; in this case he was literally harassed by a whole country, maybe even the whole world.
@Alexander but you have to remember this isn’t even comparable to a celeb sex tape this is a sex with A ROYAL FAMILY MEMBER and not some distance cousin we’re front stage, someone who’s gonna inherit the throne. If Wille did go public with it they’d be miserable with tabloids hounding them from all over the world for quick shots and pictures. Simon already felt uncomfortable with ppl recognizing him at the grocery store, imagine most of the world wanting to see u for the rest of their relationship. . I feel like it was a smarter decision to just deny it than to cause way more stress
i feel the same, but tbh, wil is the inly one in the series that i love lmao, he did the best he could ever do, he choose right, and the series had a good ending, it doesn't need a "happy" one
@@n_mp88 I completely agree. He quite literally has the weight of his entire country on his back and he is just 16, not to mention it was just a few weeks back that his brother died and all of this pressure fell on him. The decisions he made, while they hurt other people, were the most realistic ones they could have written in, at least I know they were the ones I would have made in that situation with that many eyes on me. It was an impossible situation.
I love how Young Royals has literally thrown everyone who watched it, in a way that was totally unexpected. We thought that we would get the Swedish version of Elite, when we got something so much more richer in regards to storylines, character development, and being overwhelmed by feelings for these kids and their world.
someone on twitter said that we shouldn’t stress about simon and wilhelm if we get a season 2 because we have female writers and honestly they’re right
omg so true makes me think about this, someone once said (idk from where anymore but) that women writting men was > men writting women (if it does makes sense) i think we can trust the scenarists on this i truly hope the show will have its fair recognition to allow a 2nd season :))
I really loved the chemistry between simon and wilhelm, and more specifically their love language which seems to be physical touch (mainly because it isn't represented in most queer media). The representation is close to perfect and the show presents communication which really isn't used in most media either.
But I will also add that Wile was never really in the closet. When the sex tape was leaked, the main conflict was not because Wile is gay and that's an issue. The conflict was because he is the prince and they need to maintain a perfect image of him. It would have been just as big of an issue if he was with Felice too. AND that is revolutionary gay casting. The show wasn't about a coming out story or even being gay and that's so beautiful. It was just a show where the characters (who are gay) dealt with very real problems and oh they. This is the representation we wanted that Love, Simon did not give.
Yes! Also felt like the problem with the video is not really that he is with a boy but that a sex video of him got leaked. But for Wilhelm I think being with Simon was kind of a problem at the beginning
Hummm Love Victor did amazing justice though. There are so many problems to tackle, just because it’s a more accepting time doesn’t mean closeted people with closeted problems do not exist which Love Victor amazingly portraits. They are just two different storylines.
It can be both. When Simon first kissed him he was muttering something like "I- I'm not...", so I DO think he was in the closet. But a major part in why he was in the closet and tried to deny his feelings, was his position as a prince and how it might be taken if the public/ his family found out he was with a guy. Him being in the closet and him maintaining a perfect image as a prince are two problems that are intertwined for him
@@NS-et5wh yeah but he gave in pretty quickly. maybe he was saying something like: “im not allowed” more than “im not gay”. still, i agree with what you said.
I kinda like how Sara is a selfish increasingly bad person, it's refreshing to see a neurodivergent character who isn't a goody two shoes innocent baby
i think she is really insecure about her position in the school, i kinda like her at the beginning because she seems sweet:) but what she did at the end of the season 1 was ...no. So i dont really think she is so bad but yeah she need a redemption arc in season 2, i hope:)
this show is a perfect example of how characters dont NEED to keep secrets or their feelings about each other to make the plot more interesting. almost everytime wilhelm and simon had an issue they talked about it in the same episode and didn't drag out their problems, its so refreshing to see a teen drama with couples that communicate effectively
*Small side note* 1. Wilhelm's brother's name is Erik. 2. In the show and even off set, they never actually label Wilhelm's sexuality ALTHOUGH Simon is gay. 3. 5:08 , I found pretty funny because the actor (who plays Simon ) is name is Omar (Ruberg) 4.Omar (Ruberg) is actually a singer (was in a band and is now a solo artist) 5. 7:30 (That's pretty damn accurate) 6. The actors actually dubbed themselves in English. So the English dubs are actually Malte(August), Edvin(Wilhelm), Omar(Simon), Nikita(Felice) and Frida(Sara)'s actual English *as far as I know* 7. 16:22 ( I lowkey don't even know why they added that) 8. The hug scene was actually improvised (By Edvin -Wilhelm)
YES YES YES YES!! Finally I’ve been waiting for you reaction for this one!! This show should be the blueprint for every teenage show out there and for the rest to come. The casting was spectacular and not actors in their 30s playing the role of teenagers. This is by far one of the best lgbtq+ series I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot) I’m going to be so fucking pissed if Netflix doesn’t renew it.
@@apocalypseready6256 i am hoping that people who discover young royals will find out about skam bc you know, scandinavain teen show with gay people, and it will go from big within certain circles to mainstream, and we can be like yes guys, join the dark side, we've been here since 2016
@@neivilde.1242 Seriously. And it’s such an _experience_ to watch all the different versions and compare them! Like, I love Druck a lot, but also Skam France S3 is literally god tier, but also the tone of Skam Norway is what I’m here for! Also, the whole use of characters’ social medias to engage fans is ingenious, and ugh, I could rave about this show for hours (and it’s many adaptations). I love how realistic and grounded each season is, and my favorite is actually season 1. I just wish the adaptations didn’t stick so close to it and went a little more creative, like most of their approaches to S3 and S4. The only thing is S2 feels like a badly written Wattpad fanfic and I hate it with a burning passion (especially for what it did to Nora’s character). The only thing I liked about it was how it addressed unconsensual nudes, but it’s basically really annoying and reeks of NLOG energy. That’s why I enjoyed Druck, because it diverged a bit more where I actually liked it.
I think Sarah kissed August because she thought it would make her fit in. Throughout the series we can see that she wants to be part of that school and act posh. I think she did it because she thought she had to, not because she actually wanted to, you know? Specially because if you look at her face she just looks extremely uncomfortable. She’s trying to be something she isn’t. Also, when they were at the stables, she probably took August’s compliment as something serious.
August is a jerk! Him kissing Sara at the stables is just a BIG no-no for me. She obviously did not consent to that. August should stay far away from her.
I saw them sleeping together as Sara wanting to be on top for once. She held all the cards and was now kissing the most popular guy at school. She wants to live there and have a hot rich boyfriend and be the person Felice is expected to be. It’s interesting how Felice first appears as a spoiled selfish mean girl and Sara as the kind underdog only for it to end with Felice wanting to be normal and Sara wanting everything.
She’s shown having a bit of a crush on him as she looks at him from a distance and fondles a picture of him in her friend’s room. I think she is sort of interested in him but maybe in just a sexual rather than romantic way, which also explains why she didn’t necessarily reject his kiss in the stable, although it was also because she was just confused about it.
I took it as her superiority complex pushing her to literally BE/ take the place of Felice. She wears her exact clothes and clips, wants to be a boarder, and then goes for Felice's elite counterpart.
@@sophiaisabelle027 August is a jerk, and that was definitely not consensual. But neither was Sara kissing him (/raping him ?) later on. She coerced him into it that time, since she knew he took the video and she could tell the police/someone else if he didn't do what she wanted
I really loved this show. The way they portrayed the tenderness and the softness of the relationship was very realistic. There’s often a lot of teen shows that make teens way over the top and not relatable at all but this really nailed it.
I am addicted to this show and I’ve watched it three times 😭😭. I have an extreme emotional connection to it. I don’t even know how to explain but I was sleeping and I started thinking about it and randomly started crying lol. I am heartbroken 😔
@Usama Khan. Sweden, and its boarding schools in particular, are much blonder than what's depicted in this show. Somethings up with making them more racially diverse than they actually are. Maybe you're into blonds and wouldn't mind this
This show is probably my favourite one to come out in 2021. So raw and real and the actors were so talented. It reminded me a lot of SKAM (don't know if you've seen it, but if not, would 100% recommend!), season 3 especially in terms of style and chemistry between the two main characters. If young royals doesn't get a season 2, I'll be so so upset.. And with netflix's history of cancelling shows with lgbtq+ storylines, I must say that I have a slight worry they might cancel this one too. Which is why I hope it gets the hype it deserves and proves to netflix that they have to renew! Great video!!
i love how real and honest this show is , they worked so well in showing wilhelm anxiety and making it so natural him liking simon. fun fact : Edvin (wilhelm actor) has anxiety so he took a lot of his experience into portraiting the character just like Frida (sara) also has aspeger and took her expirence into it. A lot of Simons and Wilhelms scenes were improvised and Wilie's drunk talk about fake people (my favorite scene) was improvised by edvin and young royals was Omar's (simon) debut as an actor
He disagree with you about the development of the characters. Simon and Whillem both have a lot of development. Simon learns to believe himself and stop being such a rock to everyone, without being one for himself. And whillem spends the whole season accepting his sexually. They have lots of development:)
I don't think he's talking about Simon and Wilhelm, I think he's talking about the secondary characters. Sara, Simon's dad, August's friends... They all started and ended on the same note (Sara even got worse lol)
@@erikperhs_ It’s still character development if a character gets worse. And I feel like they progress _a lot_ but maybe that’s just my opinion. I doubt they’re gonna give August a character redemption, because most people like him never change. So I don’t find it unrealistic at all. Same thing for Simon’s dad. It’s unlikely he’d be able to change his hardcore addiction in the span of 6 episodes, especially since it’s something he was unwilling to do while his kids were little and even more vulnerable. Felipe begins to act more individually and stand up to her mother. She, for instance, is no longer trying to court Wilhelm because she her mom wants her to. She’s actively supporting his and Simon’s relationship and helps him out. Sarah is the classic loner girl who desperately wants to fit in. Her social climbing ways are ultimately what corrupts her and causes her character development (meaning regression) as she distances herself from people who actually care about her in order to get in with popular kids. Felipe is sweet, but she’s basically setting herself up for failure by betraying Felipe’s trust.
@@erikperhs_ Sara didn't just get worse though. She learned how to make friends, she became more confident in herself and has learned how to live without her brother. She made a dumb decision, but that doesn't change all the good she's done for herself so far.
@@apocalypseready6256 I disagree about August not getting character development/a redemption arc during the next season (or few? I don't know how many seasons this show will have). I hate him, but I do think this is where the show is headed for him. After he learns Wille arranged for his tuition to be paid, he immediately feels bad and guilty about posting that video (but it's not like he can take it back at this point). The way he treated Wille afterwards was genuine as well (he said Erik would have just wanted him to be himself among other things). If he wasn't headed for redemption, they would have just made him not care at all or feel absolutely zero guilt over what he did. Also, it seems to me like part of the reason why he's so obsessed with staying in power over others (and also why he refuses to sell his family's estate) is because he feels like he wouldn't be honoring his father otherwise. Remember, we were told his dad recently committed suicide, and August looks like he just wants to hold onto his legacy. To him, selling the estate (or losing the respect of his peers or the power he has over them) would be disappointing his (dead) father, it would be like he's throwing away what his father gave him. Not that it excuses his behaviour, but it explains it and makes it possible for him to change before it's too late. Of course, it's going to be hard to pull off a redemption, because he's so unlikeable at the moment and has done so many shitty things, but he's not completely evil. I think every character is at least somewhat morally grey, though some are a darker shade than others.
I love when Wilhelm breaks the fourth wall. I felt that this symbolized how Wilhelm knows that someone is always watching and judging his relationship and him as a person. Whether it’s the public, the viewers watching the show, royal family, his guard, etc. He realizes that no matter what he does he will always be judge.
I also really love how he does it once in the beginning of the first episode and then right as episode 6 ends, also in time with the song. They did a lot of really nice stuff like that, both with acting and editing
It breaks my heart when Simon's like "Thank you for not making me go through this alone" and then Wilhelm says he wasn't the one in the video. Simon had his first time online for everyone to see, people recognize him when he goes to the store, and he has to go through that alone idk
the chemistry between wilhelm and simon is immaculate. with that and their acting combined, i literally had to hold my breath when all they did was look at each other.
The only thing I know is that if there is a S2 revolution is coming, not only because the song at the end but by the way Wilhelm looks at the camera when he is on the car after discovering that his own family betrays him (August leaking the video and his mother by not having his back). He looks decided about whats going to happen soon, he is going to start a revolution by claiming Simon publicly and being true to himself (and true about the video). First he showed all Hillerska, now he is going to show the rest of the country
I think they want to go that way too and I'm excited to see how they deal with all the drama that is coming since they dealt with everything very well this season
I disagree to compare a “child star” to the future king of the country and pressure to carry the bloodline and future of the monarchy. Wilhelm was born and raised in a family where “self” doesn’t exist. As a “child star”, today youre famous tomorrow you may not be and people forget about you. Being crown prince and future monarch you are under the microscope from the day you’re conceived till the day you die. So the pressure is immense. Simon and Wilhelm story was tragic in a sense they both were victims of the circumstance at such young age. Its understandable the divisions they’ve both made, Simon had to protect himself, where Wille didn’t belong to himself, he’s deprived of his personal needs and wants. Overall phenomenal series and I hope Netflix will give us season 2
@kammy absolutely! But also let’s not forget that Simon and Wille are 16 year old teenagers, with poor decision choices. Simon is free, he can do and be whoever and whatever he chooses, and no one would question him. He has amazing support from his family, love and attention, and it’s hard for him to understand how hard it is for someone who’s every step and move and decision is calculated, presented and needs to be execute just as it was predetermined. Nevertheless I’m letting you all know, if Netflix won’t give us second season I’m suing everyone and everything that is Netflix related :)))
@kammy I’ll add one thing, I don’t think Simon wanted Wille to come out publicly, he was fine with Wilhelm not to make any statements. But as I mentioned before it’s hard for 16 year old to go against his family, especially monarchy. But I 10000% agree with you, that after Wilhelm’s denial about him being in that video the news would’ve died down pretty quickly. I believe he felt betrayed, cause Wille said one thing but did another,. It wasnt about scandal anymore, it was personal. The teenage love, it’s beautiful isn’t it?! :❤️
I feel like sara didn’t expose her on purpose at the dinner, she just didn’t know how to read situations, I think they were just trying to show her Aspergers while moving the plot, but the rest of it I agree, she did shitty things.
i still cant believe its only six episodes, it easily feels like 12. its such a beautifully written show and the performance of it, only makes it better. i love this show with my whole heart.
One thing I really appreciated abt this show is that they never made August violent. I feel like in many other teen shows they would’ve made August’s stress and anxiety end up in violence because that would add another layer of drama and tension in the series. One scene where I for an example expected him to get violent was when Simon pressed him for money although August was very on edge after fighting with his mom and instead of landing a hit on Simon which would have made the scene much more dramatic, he decides only to push Simon and make clear that he was not in the right headspace to think about his debt. I think it was good that the series chose not to normalize violence as an outlet for stress for young men.
I feel like throughout the whole show all of the characters felt hidden in a way, like we weren’t ever fully seeing who any of them were, it felt like we were just getting teasers of each character, but in the finale every one of them felt so naked. All of them were presented so rawly in the last episode and it truly showed what they are or are not willing to do for the people they love. So in conclusion, show of the year.
I just finished watching it again and I think the phone call with the Queen was a turning point in Wilheim realising he should have followed his own heart and not what the Queen wanted. Her putting August above him was unacceptable and cruel just because he was family doesn’t make his action more accepting if anything it’s worse. Hence, why, when he left the church he said goodbye to people but stopped and hugged Simon and it was evident he was showing publicly that they were more than friends and the Queen would be furious because that hug contradicts his statement. I hope there is a 2nd season which will show Wilheim rebellion against the Queen to follow his own heart. I don’t feel they need to bring a 3rd person into the mix cos I feel the 3rd person is already there in the shape of the royal family/Queen and i feel thus is what the 2nd season should be dealing with and perhaps Wilheim will either come out and abdicates or the Queen accepts that Wilheim’s is gay and she has to let him have this part of his life as the rest belongs to the royal family and the royal line can still be continued through surrogacy. I do think the Queen may try and set Wilheim up with suitable girls to date which will just fuel his determination to rebel even more.
When he has the phone call with his mom, I felt like he was realising that she betrayed him, even though she forced him to not betray her/the monarchy He did what she wanted for the sake of the legacy, but she didn't do right by him as a mother I also hope they don't bring a 3rd person in. I feel like the charm of the show is how healthy/wholesome Wille and Simon's relationship is. I hope they choose to preserve that and not cause too much drama :')
i am honestly so happy that simon rejects wilhelm at the end of the season. it brings out more consequences for wilhelm and lets simon stay true to his word about not wanting to be someone's secret and he finally got to prioritise himself! he grew from always wanting to help people, like sara pointed out earlier in the season, and finally got to set a proper boundry which i kept being mad about when he didn't. 100% agree, protect simon at all costs, he deserves the world
I love when series are breaking with chliches. Like Felice actually becoming friends with the "weird" girl and then being supportive after Wilhelm's outing.
I finished this show in 2 days yesterday and I never do that but it was so good like damn. Wilhelm is such a good and complicated character. I love that he’s like “I want to be a normal kid” but not in a bratty way ? Like he appreciates where he is, but he doesn’t like the responsibility that he has to maintain his image. I feel like any time a show uses the born into fame character, they’re super ungrateful, whiny and hateful to their parents but they still take advantage of all the privilege, but he never does that. Simon is perfection. I love that he doesn’t really get mad at Wilhe for trying to hide his relationship or reject his sexuality at the beginning because he really gets it ? He understands why Wilhe has to keep shutting down and is always there to help him figure it out. I also love (but also feel off about) how every time they have a conflict, Wilhelm will be like ok I can’t do this, but then immediately he’s like wait, I really like you, and then loves Simon 3 times harder. It happens literally every time they fight and then it’s like full on heart eyes like wow they really get each other. Felice loves her friends so hard and idk why she’s so all in on Sara all of a sudden but I want to see more of who she is and why she’s so committed to caring for and protecting people. I knew August was trash the second I saw him and I was never proven wrong a single time. His character is so flat and idc to know more. But I also don’t get what his relationship is with Sara? Like they always kiss at the most random times and neither of them talk about it and it’s like do you like her, or are you gaining her trust because you know you can get something from her. I have never seen a single emotion between them Anyways. The show is mad wholesome and I feel like they definitely get what we want to see in a queer teen show ? I like that the leaked video didn’t stir up an ounce of homophobia or hate from the public outside of “how can he pass the crown on if he can’t have kids?” and stuff like that. Kinda breaks the immersion to an extent but it’s like it’s our ideal spin on reality. Idk what season 2 could bring outside of new characters but I DO want some Bridgerton crumbs where Wilhe and Simon get to actually be alone somewhere in a cabin in the woods and just be affectionate and happy like PLEASE. Let them be carefree ONCE
I wouldn’t say August is a flat character. He’s pretty complex and interesting but I mean that in the worst way possible. Him outing Wilhelm wasn’t ok on top of everything else he’s done but I feel like, without the picture getting leaked, it would’ve been something else to end Willie and Simon’s relationship. How long would they really have been able to keep it a secret before someone found out?
@@nevaehpinkney5053 I low key agree. I think that August’s character is crucial for Wille’s development and his role as the crown prince. All of what happened sorta laid the groundwork for making increasingly complex and mature decisions. It will be interesting to see how he’ll leverage his position to deal with betrayal from people he was supposed to trust. Fingers crossed for season 2.
I'd feel betrayed if netflix cancels this show :/ I was so happy to find a netflix teen drama that actually has a GOOD plot(unlike riverd*le). I'm so ready for more 😫 And also, yes, finally, actors playing teen roles and actually looking like teenagers. we love to see it
honestly one of the best shows i’ve watched in a while and i loved it. It showed how tough it can be to fit in and what you would do to fit in (sara) and just dealing with a death of a parent and having the other MIA (august). I honestly hope simone and wilhem get the ending they deserve and the love triangle is most def gonna happen in season 2
The prince (Edvin) is only 18 years old, therefore he was 17 when they where shooting Young Royals, very impressed, Omar is 22 years old, first time acting ❤️
This show is what happens when the writers stay close to the truth. People with normal skin, no good/bad characters (the way Simon refuses to accept his father this was so refreshing), no exaggerated bigotry but the realistic one we see today, original plot, cute romance. I loved it so much!! (Also I love your hair !)
When entering the last episode I'm not gonna lie, I kind of had this expectation that it would end with a happy ending: Wilhem coming out, Sarah telling Simon about August, August being exposed, etc. Love wins, bad is punished. Even though it wasn't conscious, I was expecting that. But when you think about the show, it's tone, that finale would have been completely inadequate. The show has a realistic tone, it portrays flawed people that take bad decisions and make mistakes all the time, and I think the final episode was coherent in this storyline with this characters. People often times take decisions based on fear and selfishness, so yeah it broke my heart but I liked it as a season finale, with enough room for character improvement in a second season
i'm just gonna throw it all out there : this is the best show ever, here's why. first, in terms of quality this is litteraly insane. the music is PERFECT, the lighting is always on point which makes it seem so beautiful, the filming is like long shots, slow cameras, zoom on the faces and it just makes something truly mind-blowing just talking about the visual. so a big shoutout to all the crew for that. then, the story. holy moly jesus. the main story is so so good, well written (realistic and super super cute and beautiful), WE NEED SHOWS LIKE YOUNG ROYALS THAT REPRESENTS REAL LIFE WITH REALISTIC CHARACTERS AND REALISTIC STORYLINES (yes i'm screaming but that's only because it is so important). seriously like finally a show where teenagers aren't played by 30 years old and have actual relatable storylines. this show is so natural and authentic and that's what makes it so special. they don't go like the "teen drama" which depicts completely crazy and totally unrealistic stories. in young royals, every character has flaws and they're not ashamed to show them, the storylines are authentic, normal and naturals wich makes the show so relatable. they normalized falling in love in the most natural and genuine way. im repeating but WE NEED SHOWS LIKE THAT. then i have to talk about the actors who are well, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PHENOMENAL SENSATIONAL INCREDIBLY TALENTED. i mean it, edvin ryding and omar rudberg, the two main roles are absolutely mind-blowing. they just lived the story like it was their own and everything in their acting was right. also their chemistry is OUT OF THIS WORLD. sometimes they had so much chemistry it almost broke my tv anyway. (and it's swedish and that is a beautiful language trust me, it felt like cotton in my ears) soooo, YES watch it now if you still haven't watch it, YES netflix needs to renew it, YES rewatch it if u already watch it i swear it gets better everytime if it's even possible, and YES this is probably the best show ever and it NEEDS more recognition !!! thank you for reading me if you have
@@toofany Check out Sara Arrhusius on Insta, she answers a question about how much of that scene that was improvised (spoiler: nothing). It's in her saved stories about YR.
i loved simon and wilhelm so much and i really like how they didn’t blame any of the two like both of their situations and reactions to them were understandable
Sara's decisions regarding August: Sara had just been told by Felice that sometimes it's better to not say anything. Non-autistics send a lot of mixed signals and expect autistics to understand when they want you to do what. Sara is learning that keeping her mouth shut can avoid conflict and keep her safe. On top of that she is using her knowledge to her own benefit. Besides, let's not forget that she is feeling betrayed by Simon who had been lying about meeting their estranged father. I don't like some of her decisions but they make Sense. Coming from an autistic ;) She's a well-written character.
Can we talk about how Wilhelm all of the time acted super polite without any intention with Felice specifically like you have cold take my coat, you feel bad I'm here, and he didn't thinking more than one second to do it he is genuinely like that he doesn't force it my heart went 💓 with every action
I'm excited to see Wilhelm get jealous and fight for Simon but I would really hate it if it became some kind of threesome situation that gets super complicated.
I feel like the counter-argument to the "lack of character development" is that it takes place in the course of 3 months, so it makes sense that some of the characters don't change or evolve too much
The cinematic shots, the coloring, the acting, the chemistry between actors and the storyline is just so incredible. The way they have people with genuine skin (instead of all smooth and UNREAL), they got someone with aspergers to play a character with aspergers, they have all different body types, etc. It's just incredible. The way the characters are percieved and how the actors fulfilled these rolls is INSANELY GOOD. It's so good, I have watched the series 3 times and I might as well start it again tonight. The first time I watched Young Royals, I actually stayed up until 3AM to finish it because of how good it was (I usually cant watch things all in one day). I can't forget how relatable the show is, obviously we can't all be prince, but we can go through very similar experiences with sexuality, friendships, betrayal, family, etc. Its very important that impressionable teenagers have something like this to remind them that they aren't alone with certain situations. I'm glad Willhelm isn't labeled as well, it's great to show people that labels aren't necessary (if you want labels, thats perfectly fine as well). This show just is so great. OH not to mention, they show us Willhelm having anxiety which is nice to see (I struggle with really bad anxiety, everyday before school, I physically would get sick).
For season 2, im really just hoping they both can be happy. I hope willhelm can accept himself along with the public accepting him and he can see what happens then.
i agree, this ending was rly good. like it hurt and kinda destroyed the whole fandom but it was a good ending. i would say what i like about it so much is that none of them fucked up their relationship, its just that the whole situation is fucked up. and also simon, who was definitely hurt by wilhelms decision to not come out, still understood this. he never wanted to force him to do anything but he also dint want to have secret relationship. i believe in another situation he woulve said the ily back. bec yes he loves wilhelm, but that doesnt change their situatiuon and as you said he was like: whatever you say it wont change the way it is now. so he just said nothing and then the happy christmas thing. but you could see the pain in his eyes. so yeah i loved this ending bec they kinda paused their relationship (i rly hope they just "paused" it) on good terms if you know what i mean. there was no drama. it was just a bad situation for them as a couple. i loved ur review btw thy for taking the time and reacting to it
i feel like people don’t recognize that, in the long run, simon got the better end of the situation. like, the sex tape is going to be irrelevant to most people in a few weeks, and simon is going to be able to live his life freely without worrying too much about his image and stuff. wilhelm, on the other hand, will have to remain closeted in order to keep up appearances. not to mention, simon has a great support system from his friends and mom, while wilhelm legit has no one (maybe felice, but their friendship isn’t close in s1). wilhelm was left with no one to turn to, as his mother is not much of a loving parent figure, and is genuinely the character that went through the most during the show.
i love how wilhelm looks directly at the camera in the very beginning, and then again at the very end. it was so minor but extremely cinematic. i loved it so much! my friends are getting annoyed because i won’t shut up about it (pls talk to me about it, for their sake). this show was netflix hearing us getting pissed at them cancelling all the other lqbtqia+ shows😭😭
Im literally so surprised by this show. I started the show without knowing what it was about…and I loved it! The acting, the characters and the way they were represented, great. No one’s "perfect", different stories and different types of people.
don't appreciate the elite comparisons lmao aside from being about people with money. I suggest you watch the deep talk between the writer of the show and the director, they explain so well what their vision was and what they wanted to portray in terms of classism
About the lacking of minorities: I get where you're coming from but I feel like you have to think about the location too... In America there is way more diversity than in Sweden, I was even surprised that they put a black character in (they surely did it for representation btw)
I think as much as we want Wilhelm and Simon together at the end of the season, Wilhelm's decision was really the only choice at the time. If his brother hadn't died, and the 'leak' was something more innocent, he may have been able to be more honest. But because of the 'sex tape', and Erik dying, he needed to disown the situation for the sake of his family. There are politics in place that unfortunately Wilhelm cannot ignore. Like you, I admire Simon for being mature enough to step away from Wilhelm when he wanted to keep Simon a secret. He shouldn't have to sacrifice his values and self-worth to be in a relationship with Wilhelm. It isn't something we would often see (if at all) in American shows of that nature - usually, the one who compromises ends up hating the one who puts them in the situation in the first place, despite them not saying anything before. I do think Wilhelm wants to be in a position to be able to publicly acknowledge his relationship with Simon, even if he couldn't do so on the back of the leaked video. The look to the camera in the final scene, with the lyrics of the song playing in the scene about starting a revolution, speaks volumes and will lead to an interesting S2 storyline. It's a credit to the way the show has been edited, and all the details, from the music to the makeup department (The scar on Wilhelm's face from the fight in Ep1 was visible in some regard throughout the season as it slowly healed), and the camera angles that the show can convey so much in so few episodes. The whole series is stunning in its subtlety, that I was left speechless so many times.
I really really loved Nikita Uggla who plays Felice in the show! She is MAD gorgeous and I love that she represents so many girls (and guys too) out there! Her character arc revolving around the other characters were beautifully done, especially with Sara and Wilhelm! She easily could have been the jealous girl against Simon, but she's actually the one who helped Wilhelm track down August. Felice is easily my favorite part of the show, and I hope we get to see more of her in the next season (if there is one).
Agreed! I made a comment how I had an extreme connection to this show and that connection encompasses wille’s anxiety. It was very well done!
I literally felt as anxious as him
I love how Felice did not villainize Sara for kissing August well in fact, August kissed her without consent. This shows that despite knowing that August cheated on her, she only expressed her anger on August and not Sara.
Me too. That happens all the time in other movies - characters are angry at each others and friendship / relationship drama is dragged out because the characers aren’t given a chance to explain.
But i hate how sara go to August and they kissed for second time
YESSS OMFG I LOVED IT SO MUCH THE SHOW IS LITERALLY PERFECT IN EVERY ASPECT
best girl
@kammy but then she came back to kiss him again... not a great friend.
i like how they showed “realistic” people. like people with different body types and acne
facts. not everyone has glass skin and kylie jenner type body :/
they took a page out of skam's book
I read this as blood type at first and I was like um what
Yes the showcase of acne has a special place in my heart
Agreed.
Can we talk about the fact that what August did would be classified as child porn, since they're all minors? like besides it being morally horrible, he should be facing legal consequences.
omg right ?? i agree, i was wondering why what he did didn’t have bigger consequences. it’s literally illegal.
omg I know??? it’s literally multiple crimes isn’t it? something has to be done for sure hasn’t it... but the queen is on his side ugh
Yes I was shocked when Wilhelm found out the Queen knew because uuhm, woman… JAIL ?
YEAH LIKE WHY DIDNT THEY PRESS CHARGES i hope Simon does when he finds out it was August
I'm pretty sure there were no legal consequences because the age of consent in Sweden is 15. But yeah, regardless of that it's fucked up

he'll be okay in some boarding school in switzerland or sth lol
nah, he said he would turn them all in if they don't help him. No justice for Alexander

@@imuRgency yes.
I wanted more
The part where Sara exposes her friend isn’t necessarily due to malicious intent and is more of her inability to read social cues.
@@camila-fz8gl I thought she has asperger's not autism

I honestly think this is best teen show on Netflix.
one thing i really liked was how close eric and wilhelm were as brothers, and not in that weird "hey brooo" way but genuinely close physically and emotionally, none of that toxic masculinity shit. the scene where they say goodbye at the school and they're hugging and wilhelm doesn't want to let him go almostmade me cry, it was so sweet and reminded me so much of my own family. and that the last conversation they had was just them messing around like brothers would.
(also that was when i knew that eric was going to bite the dust cause there's no way they'll leave the supportive brother in lmao rip)
Also the gender neutral term erik used when he got idea that wilhelm is in love or seeing someone
He is an awesome big brother.
the fact that wilhelm helped august with his tuition just for him to out him he doesn’t even deserve a redemption arc
Yeah I was hoping for a redemption arc but then he just continued to be shitty!
and the fact that Simon had to sell drugs to August to pay for his unnecessary cram fee?? ion like that…
I literally sobbed for wilhelm when we found out he helped august with the tuition. Haven’t been this heartbroken for a character in a long time 😭
If I remember properly, August uploaded the video before he was called about his paid tuition. I could be wrong, but his guilty reaction to the call makes me remember the timeline happening in that sequence.
Why do i ship August with simon tho? It just feel like it would work😕
I feel like we’re really simplifying August’s actions to just outing. He literally recorded his cousin having sex, re-watched it and then uploaded it knowing that one more controversy in regards to Willhelm could cause serious trouble….. no matter what he does he literally can’t get redemption 💀 he betrayed Wilhelm, broke the trust if Wilhelm’s late brother, exposed Simone to the WORLD and caused trouble to not only Wilhelm but the whole monarchy exposing that Wilhelm might not be straight…… it’s beyond me 💀
also he cheated on his girlfriend by kissing Sara multiple times (without her consent!!) and was very classist and elitist towards Simon.

I like how, the whole personality of the 2 characters isn’t that they’re gay or queer. They actually have character depth, and the show doesn’t enforce the ‘funny, sarcastic, sassy and fashionable best gay friend’ trope. Like, it actually treats the characters as normal people.
i absolutely agree, it normalizes it and makes it sm more relatable.
Unlike Love, Victor to be honest..
@@niteski I completely agree, there’s something about Young Royals that just feels raw. It depicts much more realistic, healthy, and communicative relationship. Like they’re vulnerable with each other, they communicate their boundaries, needs, and feelings.

Disghustang
The actress who actually played Sara has aspersers as well/
Yeah, I was mad when she got with august
Felice grew the most, allowing a friend in her life to make her less self-centered and scared.
well said! i feel like my opinion on that part has changed after rewatching for clips while editing
exactly! i think its a subtle character development, which is very realistic considering we dont go through major character changes out of nowhere. Simon learned that he has value like everyone else at the end, and wont let anyone “piss on him” any longer.
THIS right here is exactly what i thought you explained it better than i could of ever 😂❤️❤️
there's also the fact that the show begins when the school year has already started at least a few weeks since even first years don't seem *new* to the school like the choir is running fine and kids know how to act at dinner and stuff so it's probably mid september i'd say, and ends in mid december when the kids leave for the holidays break and there's only so much character development that can happen over the course of like three months.
i graduated high school in 2008 so my memories are a bit fuzzy but i don't remember having evolved very much in my first term of high school lmao, i basically made a couple new friends and that's about it really, no big epiphany about anything or things that got majorly different by christmas break. just minor changes because life happens and it takes time for one's character to develop and i think the show is doing it well, these kids' journeys are just starting and they still have teenager peanut brains :')
5:08 its funny you said “omar vibes” omar from elite cause the actor who plays simon is actually named omar irl 😅
okay but can we just talk about the amazing acting? it has been revealed that a few scenes were 100% improvised, such as the fish tank scene and the football field scene. the chemistry between all of the actors (ESPECIALLY edvin (wilhelm) and omar (simon)) is amazing and raw, which is really what put this show over the top for me. i really hope we get a season 2 of this masterpiece.
the acting was wonderful
The fish scene is improvised ? It's the best scene of the show 😂 yeaaa, they are so good at acting all of them !

OMG I love you so much!!
ok but you're totally right about how it ended and wilhelm's decision. it broke my heart because I love simon and wilhelm so much but they were able to do what was best for them.
i also really, really loved how wonderful the communication was between them throughout the whole season. they fought and had disagreements, but instead of making assumptions or avoiding each other, they talked through it in a healthy way. smaller details like in episode 5 when they wake up after simon rescues wilhelm from the football field, wilhelm tells simon that he just wants him to hold him; and as small of a detail that is, that's not something i see that often in tv shows and movies. i think that it's a really good indication of how open they are with each other and how well they're able to communicate their feelings and desires. i wish this were more common in more media because I've always struggled with communication like that, but if i saw more of it in the stuff i watch, it would be more normalized and much easier i think
yes periodt! the way they communicated was just so healthy. they argues but they also met again to talk to each other about it after it. like in some shows you see couples fighting and then one of them is pissed and wont talk to the other one and ahhh thats frustrating and also rly not healthy for a relationship. also i loved that simon forgave wilhelm bec of the whole drug-selling thing. like ofc he was pissed and dissapointed but they talked about their feelings and simon was okay to forgive wilhelm.
@z right? it’s one of my favourite things about the show. also simon's relationship with friends and family. they were there for each other and so supportive.
That initiation scene made me gag.
Oh my god. Yeah, that was hella disgusting. August was in on that. And so were his other friends.
Same i had to skip through it🤢
@@sophiaisabelle027 I literally could not stand that scene it was disgusting
So true I hope people don’t do this stuff irl🤢
I skipped through it, but what I did see was disgusting.
I haven't thought of it like that but i guess you're kinda right
@Alexander i see that and i 100% agree but i meant it more in the sense of “a sex tape with a ROYAL FAMILY MEMBER” vs “just a sex tape”.

👏👏

Seriously.
She coerced him into it that time, since she knew he took the video and she could tell the police/someone else if he didn't do what she wanted

i love how real and honest this show is , they worked so well in showing wilhelm anxiety and making it so natural him liking simon.
fun fact : Edvin (wilhelm actor) has anxiety so he took a lot of his experience into portraiting the character just like Frida (sara) also has aspeger and took her expirence into it.
@@erikperhs_
It’s still character development if a character gets worse.
They didn't mention that it was his first time. Although wilhelm could be his first time with a guy since he was acting so guilty after kissing Simon.
the chemistry between wilhelm and simon is immaculate. with that and their acting combined, i literally had to hold my breath when all they did was look at each other.
First he showed all Hillerska, now he is going to show the rest of the country
well said i hope youre right 😭😭
I think they want to go that way too and I'm excited to see how they deal with all the drama that is coming since they dealt with everything very well this season
I really hope so!!😍🥰 It would make such a good plot!!🤩
Overall phenomenal series and I hope Netflix will give us season 2
very good points!
exactly my thoughts, well said!!!
yes, well said!
THIS
i still cant believe its only six episodes, it easily feels like 12. its such a beautifully written show and the performance of it, only makes it better. i love this show with my whole heart.
I think it was good that the series chose not to normalize violence as an outlet for stress for young men.
thank you for saying this. i was thinking about this for some time but couldn't find the right words.
I do think the Queen may try and set Wilheim up with suitable girls to date which will just fuel his determination to rebel even more.
yes omg
😭😭 I want that trope soo bad!!!
When he has the phone call with his mom, I felt like he was realising that she betrayed him, even though she forced him to not betray her/the monarchy
He did what she wanted for the sake of the legacy, but she didn't do right by him as a mother
I also hope they don't bring a 3rd person in.
100% agree, protect simon at all costs, he deserves the world
this show has somehow made and ruined my summer fr :(

I love when series are breaking with chliches. Like Felice actually becoming friends with the "weird" girl and then being supportive after Wilhelm's outing.
desperate for a season two 😫😫 the relationship between wilhelm and simon is so pure and beautifully written 🤍🤍
I have never seen a single emotion between them
Anyways.
I love that series can't wait for a season 2
I'd feel betrayed if netflix cancels this show :/
I was so happy to find a netflix teen drama that actually has a GOOD plot(unlike riverd*le). I'm so ready for more 😫
And also, yes, finally, actors playing teen roles and actually looking like teenagers. we love to see it
The actor who plays Wilhelm is 18 irl
@@oliviaa6057 wait what lol
@@nadiamokhtar-lee9027 yes, he's 18 and Simon (omar ) is 22
if netflix cancels this show we cancel netflix and thats that on that😤
@@imuRgency it'll be boycotting time 😍
honestly one of the best shows i’ve watched in a while and i loved it. It showed how tough it can be to fit in and what you would do to fit in (sara) and just dealing with a death of a parent and having the other MIA (august). I honestly hope simone and wilhem get the ending they deserve and the love triangle is most def gonna happen in season 2
Why is no one talking about the initiation part where Wilhelm had to drink a bowl of spit?🤢
I absolutely hate that scene. It was DISGUSTING
well, i think that scene represent pretty well what happens when one joins a fraternity ore some thing like that, i thought it was an okay thing ☠️
i looked away and i will continue to pretend that scene didn’t exist
Because we have all tried to block it from our memory.
Omg what? How did I miss that eww!
(Also I love your hair !)
just one note: Willie is unlabeled. it is never said he is gay, and the actors have even said he is meant to be unlabeled
People often times take decisions based on fear and selfishness, so yeah it broke my heart but I liked it as a season finale, with enough room for character improvement in a second season
it blew me away, from the trailer I was expecting some riverdale cringe so I’m so glad I still gave it a shot 😭
i'm just gonna throw it all out there : this is the best show ever, here's why.
first, in terms of quality this is litteraly insane. the music is PERFECT, the lighting is always on point which makes it seem so beautiful, the filming is like long shots, slow cameras, zoom on the faces and it just makes something truly mind-blowing just talking about the visual. so a big shoutout to all the crew for that.
then, the story. holy moly jesus. the main story is so so good, well written (realistic and super super cute and beautiful), WE NEED SHOWS LIKE YOUNG ROYALS THAT REPRESENTS REAL LIFE WITH REALISTIC CHARACTERS AND REALISTIC STORYLINES (yes i'm screaming but that's only because it is so important). seriously like finally a show where teenagers aren't played by 30 years old and have actual relatable storylines. this show is so natural and authentic and that's what makes it so special. they don't go like the "teen drama" which depicts completely crazy and totally unrealistic stories. in young royals, every character has flaws and they're not ashamed to show them, the storylines are authentic, normal and naturals wich makes the show so relatable. they normalized falling in love in the most natural and genuine way. im repeating but WE NEED SHOWS LIKE THAT.
then i have to talk about the actors who are well, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PHENOMENAL SENSATIONAL INCREDIBLY TALENTED. i mean it, edvin ryding and omar rudberg, the two main roles are absolutely mind-blowing. they just lived the story like it was their own and everything in their acting was right. also their chemistry is OUT OF THIS WORLD. sometimes they had so much chemistry it almost broke my tv anyway.
(and it's swedish and that is a beautiful language trust me, it felt like cotton in my ears)
soooo, YES watch it now if you still haven't watch it, YES netflix needs to renew it, YES rewatch it if u already watch it i swear it gets better everytime if it's even possible, and YES this is probably the best show ever and it NEEDS more recognition !!! thank you for reading me if you have
also the fact that the field scene and the fish scene were IMPROVISED ahhhh It makes me so happy the show is absolutely amazing !
the fish scene was improvised omg😭😭😭😭😭😭
isn't it crazy how the 2 best scenes in the show are improvised? these actors are mad talented; kudos to whoever did the casting
I literally said “that’s it ?” When it ended because it all went so fast 😭
i binged it in one sitting. i actually regret that a bit
The thing that really got me with Sara is how she never even told Simone that it was August 💀
At least we saw how devastating it was for Wille to find out
I really hope this does not turn into elite with a third boy to make one jealous :(
I'm excited to see Wilhelm get jealous and fight for Simon but I would really hate it if it became some kind of threesome situation that gets super complicated.
i love the way you said “he’s giving omar vibes” because the actors name is literally omar 😭
I feel like the counter-argument to the "lack of character development" is that it takes place in the course of 3 months, so it makes sense that some of the characters don't change or evolve too much
The intimacy that Wilhelm and Simon shared throughout the whole show was OUT OF THIS WORLD
The cinematic shots, the coloring, the acting, the chemistry between actors and the storyline is just so incredible.
I hope willhelm can accept himself along with the public accepting him and he can see what happens then.
i agree, this ending was rly good. like it hurt and kinda destroyed the whole fandom but it was a good ending. i would say what i like about it so much is that none of them fucked up their relationship, its just that the whole situation is fucked up. and also simon, who was definitely hurt by wilhelms decision to not come out, still understood this. he never wanted to force him to do anything but he also dint want to have secret relationship. i believe in another situation he woulve said the ily back. bec yes he loves wilhelm, but that doesnt change their situatiuon and as you said he was like: whatever you say it wont change the way it is now. so he just said nothing and then the happy christmas thing. but you could see the pain in his eyes. so yeah i loved this ending bec they kinda paused their relationship (i rly hope they just "paused" it) on good terms if you know what i mean. there was no drama. it was just a bad situation for them as a couple.
i loved ur review btw thy for taking the time and reacting to it
I watched it in a day and now I want season 2 immediately!
The chemistry between Edvin (Wille) and Omar (Simone) was AMAZING and I think it is one of the main things that made the show so good
I love that even after the scandal, Wille stayed with Simon
talking about simon: he's giving very much omar vibe
*the actor who plays simon actual name being omar*💀😌
Lmao the way that you predicted the s2 love triangle that no one rlly wanted
i feel like people don’t recognize that, in the long run, simon got the better end of the situation. like, the sex tape is going to be irrelevant to most people in a few weeks, and simon is going to be able to live his life freely without worrying too much about his image and stuff. wilhelm, on the other hand, will have to remain closeted in order to keep up appearances. not to mention, simon has a great support system from his friends and mom, while wilhelm legit has no one (maybe felice, but their friendship isn’t close in s1).
wilhelm was left with no one to turn to, as his mother is not much of a loving parent figure, and is genuinely the character that went through the most during the show.
i was so happy that the main girls had a good friendship and weren’t out to get each other or competing over boys 😭
i love how wilhelm looks directly at the camera in the very beginning, and then again at the very end. it was so minor but extremely cinematic. i loved it so much! my friends are getting annoyed because i won’t shut up about it (pls talk to me about it, for their sake). this show was netflix hearing us getting pissed at them cancelling all the other lqbtqia+ shows😭😭
i like how you said Simon basically reminds you of Omar because the actor that plays Simon is literally called Omar in real life lmao
Young Royals is definitely the new standard for teen dramas for me, it's set a very high bar
ikr??? like im totally gonna only like shows that are at par with this one. its gonna be difficult for me to let any bullshit pass
Im literally so surprised by this show. I started the show without knowing what it was about…and I loved it! The acting, the characters and the way they were represented, great.
No one’s "perfect", different stories and different types of people.
Fun fact the actor who plays Simon his name is Omar
don't appreciate the elite comparisons lmao aside from being about people with money. I suggest you watch the deep talk between the writer of the show and the director, they explain so well what their vision was and what they wanted to portray in terms of classism
Netflix kills me I now refuse to get into a show for them to just cancel it after 1 season for them BS reality shows
And this video is what led me to watching it, so ty bc now im watching it months later after it popped up on my recommended
@Sasha Allen ik I'm so excited for November XD
About the lacking of minorities: I get where you're coming from but I feel like you have to think about the location too... In America there is way more diversity than in Sweden, I was even surprised that they put a black character in (they surely did it for representation btw)
Exactly.
I’ll be coming back I’m in class rn and that title is promising, I loved that show
I really really loved Nikita Uggla who plays Felice in the show!
