The excuse for its cancellation was so dumb. It was originally picked up for a second season. All the actors made announcements about it, so we knew they were all coming back. The writers had literally already written season 2! And then Netflix canceled both The society and I Am Not Ok With This saying it was because of problems trying to shoot during covid. They could have easily just postponed the next seasons like they did with Stranger things, or made sure the cast and crew all quarantined before shooting as they did with all the other movies and shows they made during the pandemic.

It wasn’t due to filming for the most part. It was due to the fact that it was a stupidly expensive show to make since it’s such a big cast and the whole set was also very expensive. As for I’m Not Okay With This, it was a similar thing in which it just cost Netflix too much money, cause during COVID they had to make cuts and they chose to cut the projects that obviously cost a lot more than the rest. Most of the Netflix shows that were released last year and even some this year were filmed in 2019 to early 2020 when Netflix could feasibly afford to make those shows. I saw in another comment that they hope that another streaming platform picks up the show because it deserves to be played out. I hope for the same outcome.

I HATED how Allie didn't do anything to the Guard members that harassed Lexi. Whether you like the girl or not, what those Guard members did was disgusting and she should have done something about it. Totally bit Allie in the ass in the end.
That was kind of the point of that subplot: to show how pragmatic Allie had become because of the position of power she was forced to assume. I would assume she would be against it on a personal note, but as a leader (and someone that's starting to understand the importance of saving face aka the politics of power) she knew it was best for her to keep that a secret so no one could question her capacity to enforce control. But, as you said, it backfired on her and was the trigger that made Lexi run for mayor and then accept the coup
It's a real mistake that even progressive leaders make until they learn the hard way. In the pandemic my state government is the left of the two parties, but has gone extremely pro cop, they use cops where a left government should use health workers. Too many their supporters are so happy that we don't have the right party here messing up us completely, that they support all of it, even though there was huge turn out for the BLM marches here. Of course governing in a way that is so pro cop gives way too much power and so leaders often learn the hard way, as Ali did.
But seriously ask me why Netflix actually cancelled this fire show but shows like Ginny and Georgia and the three part Kissing booth series that NO ONE ASKED FOR keep getting green-lit.
I feel like a lot of shows get worse with every season but with the society that wouldn't have been the case because (like u said) the first season is pretty much just the "set up" for what's to come...the second season could have been filled with genuinely good plot lines but nooo Netflix just HAS TO cancel everything good like...ever ):

I just rewatched this yesterday and I’m the kind of person who likes picking through character’s mental “abilities” (that’s not the word for it, but like the ability to pick up on things) and watching Campbell is so infuriating for me because you really can’t tell if he’s talking about the pie or the poison. Part of me thinks he knew something was up with Elle but he wasn’t sure what is was till that scene when he finds out she poisoned the pie. However she had made it very clear that her family didn’t have thanksgiving and therefore never cooked the normal meals (turkey being dry for instance).

@@jemappellemerci I mean to be honest, it’s never too late. There’s this British show called Top Boy that came out in 2011 in the UK and got cancelled after its second season. Drake found out about the show and loved it so much that he said he was gonna bring it back somehow and then in 2017 Netflix announced they were picking it up to revive the show. Fast forward to 2019 and the new season came out on Netflix with Drake as one of the executive producers and season 4 is coming out later this year. Anything is possible!
I feel like if they cancel a show, they should at least tell us how it would continue, the motive or solve the mystery in this case or resolve the cliffhanger. I felt the same way after knowing that everything sucks wont get renewed,
Grizz is everything that's right in the world, he's the absolute best boi and he deserved so much better. I hate Netflix so much for this cancellation...
Super late but I really appreciated grizz as a character and especially as an LGBT character as a gay person myself. I think Jack Mulhern did a fantastic job playing him. I was very excited for the relationship between Sam and grizz and definitely was not expecting one so well put together considering the rest of the romantic relationships in the show being all over the place. It’s really a shame that the few shows that portray gay people normally are always cancelled early. Grizz was definitely the most put together fleshed out character in The Society, with many sides to him and a lot of personality and expression brought in by Jack Mulherns great acting.
There's no doubt that Netflix did The Society extremely dirty. It's DISGUSTANG. It would've been the greatest show if there were more seasons. So unfortunate.
Forever bitter about the society, it was so good!!! The teens acted like actual teens, the writing was just so well done. That scene where the guys are arguing outside Dewey’s place over the gun is just….so realistic to how teens would actually behave. The creator and head writer also created and wrote party of five which makes sense bc that was a really well written show centering around teens as well.
I’m pretty sure it was sams brother the psychopath cause she always got weird when they talked about it and she didn’t want him (the dad) to know but I feel like every other option it would’ve been reasonable to tell them or when they saw her pregnant they would have said something. I truly believe the psychopath is the only one who wouldn’t care at all about her being pregnant I think the other guys would’ve put some minimal effort in
The execution scene is one of the best scenes in the entire show I'm surprised you didn't talk ab it in the video. It sent chills through my body and I don't think I've ever been on the edge of my seat for a show as much as I was for that scene

what hurts the most tho is that they baited us. it got renewed but ‘bc of the pandemic’ it was cancelled. it’s not like any of these actors are gonna age tremendously. they’re all like pushing 30
i watched this show when it first came out and i find myself circling back to it every now and then, and every time i am diappointed that it got cancelled all over again. this show tackled such heavy topics, and did it well time and time again. from becca to cassandra's death to the kids trying to figure out how they were going to deal with campbell, who is a registered psychopath but also a person, and a kid just like them. watching the cast be so excited to go back to filming with their co-stars and then watching that all come to an abrupt end a week before was heart-crushing. this show needs to find some way to make a comeback, even if it's in a different form of media. i will take a book at this point
Speaking about the couples, my favorite line came from the scene where Beck has a child and one of the girls who helped give birth said, "Sexuality is fluid, Gwen" when someone talked about Sam being gay or something like that. I don't know why I think it's funny but the delivery was just really good.
im really angry that the show will never confirm the theory that campbell is the baby’s father, the way becca was defensive about keeping the identity a secret, and the one thing where she interviews campbell in the extra vlog things, they def slept together one time and she is ASHAMED
I completely forgot that Campbell was the father I was talking to my dad last night about this show & how Becca never says who the dad is but now that u brought it up I remember that it’s his baby lmao. They totally did I honestly feel bad for her she had a baby with a psychopath💀 (I might be wrong about this but did someone say when bacca had her baby the baby looked like sam & as we know him & Campbell are brothers so I might be wrong but that just popped in my head while writing this lmao)
I highly doubt the father of the child is Campbell there is pretty much nothing to suggest that. Becca and Campbell don’t have a single scene together and Becca had no reason to hide that fact from Sam since Sam already knows Campbell is a bad person. No behavior of Becca’s would suggest Campbell to me. And there’s not even a reason to think Campbell knows Becca exists lmao
@@fart63 from what I remember from the show, sam and campbell HATE each other, so becca has every reason to wanna hide if she slept with him. ESPECIALLY if it was like a one time drunk thing or he assaulted her or something. And idk if you saw the extra vlog content they had becca’s character doing where she would interview characters one on one, she had one with campbell, where the way he was acting with her was very familiar and she also kinda had something weird idk, but it made sense to me that he would be the father
Someone said that the show felt like a retelling of the Pied Piper story where the guy took away the town's kids bc they didnt pay him for getting rid of the rats in the town
I watched this show _knowing_ that it was cancelled but still when I finished it and there wasn't any sign of a new season it felt like a fresh wound, you know?
my brother and i watched this show and at first we weren’t fully convinced but at the end we were so invested, such a shame netflix just doesn’t care about the audience’s opinions for some reason
no i dont think netflix would throw away this show which is loved by a lot of ppl without reasons and discussions. maybe it’s too expensive or even bcs of the pandemic (bcs they need a lot of ppl for this as u can see) and they just thought they should shoot other shows that have less casting and less budget. or maybe the society didn’t do as good as the other shows, so they priorities those instead
I will literally never understand why they cancelled the show when they literally could have just stopped production UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. They're acting like people wouldn't be willing to waiting more months for a new season
All these years later AND I'M STILL MAD about this. Mad and sad. We were robbed and this was one of the most unique and interesting shows out there. One season?!? And then they have the nerve to keep it on the site. Like just remove the f*cking show if you arent going to finish it. The potential was huge and I cant even say they released anything comparable in the last few years.
This was the one teen show I could stomach because it wasn’t cringey and felt so real and unique. I got all my friends to watch the show and were all so bummed.
My theory is that it's a Pied Piper of Hamelin story where kids are taken from their parents for what their parents have done (like their sins). It's somehow connected with the bad smell and the bus driver is the Pied Piper. Unlike the original Pied Piper of Hamelin story, we see everything from the stolen kids' perspective. And in the second season we would see why kids were stolen and what their parents have done P.S. Ally and Harry give me Bellark vibes from the beginning of the 1st season of the 100
I too was mad and questioning why the show got cancelled after it did originally get picked up for a second season, but then someone kind of explained it to me that between Covid just starting and problem with contracts and legalise, they just had to cancel the second season.
Netflix canceling shows like The Society and Grand Army shows that they have little care for producing quality content... anyways stan a24 and HBO because they would never do us dirty like that.
At least the show didn’t have the chance to get bad! Like don’t get me wrong, I would have LOVED to have a second season and I’m really mad that we didn’t get to see that, but at least we weren’t disappointed by the story because I think that would have been even more frustrating… Anyways that’s what I think about when I don’t want to get sad that it ended lol
RT on the s*x scenes not being necessary. I’ve been having a big peeve with Netflix and the film industry in general inserting s*x scenes involving m*nors that absolutely do not drive the plot at all. Like in Fear Street Part 1, the whole everyone “going to pound town” thing was not necessary at all and just left me uncomfy. I think a video on that could be pretty interesting, if not just to hear that other people feel the same 😅
There was a book series called Gone, with literally the same premise and IT'S AMAZING. If any of ya'll were bummed that the show was cancelled, the book series does an amazing job at fleshing out the characters and supernatural mystery behind it all. Also, some of the kids get powers...it is way too cool
I love that you raised the point about how messed up it was that the relationships were treated like a marriage. Apart from Helena and Luke, none of the other main couples were even together before "the incident". It made sense for them but like Campbell and Elle weren't even friends so the way she wound up in this domestic situation with him never sat right with me. Tbh, I only watched it last year and part of the reason I finally gave in was because it had already been renewed at that point. So I felt incredibly fkd over when Netflix suddenly changed their minds and cancelled it. Despite the massively irritating characters (aside from Grizz, Sam and a few others), the premise had so much potential and it ended on a huge, exciting cliffhanger. I think it did suffer from having too many named characters, and from not utilizing some of the more unique ones (like Sam, who had a lot of individual potential but was basically treated like a secondary character in everyone else's storyline despite being a main) but the writers laid an incredible foundation for future seasons(and all those excess unnecessary chars could've been killed off when needed). Netflix has disappointed me a lot over the years but this one really stung.
it had thriller, dystopia, politics, romance, teenagers, feminism, good gay representation, conflicts, character development, complex personalities, so many topics were touched on without it feeling forced. There wasn't a good and bad, they all had flaws, why tf do we have riverdale
The way I’m never going to see my favourite ship Allie and Harry sail is so devastating 😭 I also believe that Harry and Cassandra used to date but Cass dumped Harry and that’s why there’s a bit of resentment between them 👀
Speaking of the dog. I think the dog represents danger. It was at the start when they got teleported, when Cassandra gor killed, and before Cambell killed it probably trying to warn Ellie
I had the same thoughts about the marriage-esque relationships. My theory is that the teens were just mirroring relationships that they were used to seeing. Which is ironic because most of their relationships were toxic af, but they put on a good front.
What really pissed me off is that it actually did get renewed, so Netflix KNEW that a lot of people enjoyed the show, and they still went and revoked that second season😒
I loved this shooww. Such a shame what happened with it! There are times nostalgia comes to me and I really feel like re-watching its episodes. It has various things I love from shows and definitely I keep hope for another season to come sometime. Who knows!
I was so sad when I found out there wasn’t gonna be a second season so I went on a spree watching a bunch of interviews with the cast to fill the emptiness
I’ve tried to look up what could’ve potentially happened in s2 and didn’t find much but the creator did mention that he did not wanna give away details “too early”. So I’m hopeful something will happen, either it getting picked up or them just telling us what was gonna happen
Just finished watching The Society for the 2nd time. Soo, soo mad that they cancelled it before any of it made sense. Yes, I know the pandemic hit, but it could have been filmed in between lock downs or whatever. At least season 3 of Outer Banks is on the way. Was beginning to give up hope. But really annoyed they cancelled The Society like that. Meanwhile Riverdale has dragged on for 7 seasons and it has just got so stupid. I love the actors though.
I hate Netflix for doing this and will always hold a grudge about it. This and I Am Not Okay With This (but especially this) were fantastic shows that had so much going for them, as oppose to Kissing Booth that got renewed for a second and third movie like wtf. Just shows that Netflix cares way more about sales than quality, even with the millions the company makes daily. On the other hand, even though The Society was a Netflix show I wish they could have found some way to keep it going for a season 2 but have it on prime or another service instead!!!

@@Sigmaskycasino oh it’s fine I read it all, but yes after Cassandra‘s death, And now it’s sat right with me and I really thought she was the main character they put everything of her being the leader. Both of them had in common was like a Psychotic and want to be a leader Campbell. And between leader ship and killing each other that’s it. They ended up getting rescue because they were stuck on an island. So I was thinking maybe their parents comes back and gets them. But then I’m like what if it’s like an experiment or coma. What if the actual ending for it is something else. We couldn’t even think of

Exactly. I believe the directors said that 8 seasons were anticipated for the society.
@@irrelevance3859 really? That kind of makes it even sadder that there aren't even 2 lmao. I feel like 8 seasons really wouldn't have been necessary (and tbh I wouldn't have wanted it to be that long since it would have probably just dragged the plot out) but I truly believe that it would have been a perfect 3 seasons show. First season for world building and explaining, second season for them to figure out what happened to them and the third season for the solution (+ maybe the aftermath)....I just really hate that we are left with so many questions...

It got canceled due to the pandemic (idk why they couldn’t put it on hold or something) ikr like we need answers.
@@Sigmaskycasino there were so many tv shows filming during the pandemic too, they could of waited a little longer but ofc it’s netflix so i’m not surprised
@@missgirl5406 Yes exactly! Idk why they couldn’t just have done what stranger thing’s did & put it on hold or have the cast quarantine it doesn’t make any sense there was no reason they needed to cancel this show. You’re right it is Netflix so it’s not surprising that the show was canceled.
@@Sigmaskycasino right?? and st is literally almost finish filming too netflix also filmed never have i ever s2 during that pandemic, i really don’t understand their logic
@@missgirl5406 Exactly! Like they honestly didn’t really have a valid reason to cancel it if they filmed those shows during the pandemic they could have filmed the society as well. Not to mention they probably filmed the kissing booth 2 or whatever that movie is called during the pandemic as well & the 3rd one so I’m not understanding why they canceled it. Stupid Netflix always canceling the good shows/movies. I don’t understand it either it doesn’t make any sense. It’s honestly like they picked & chose what to film & what to cancel during this & ig the society & other great shows didn’t make the cut for whatever reason.
5:57 I was so anxious during the food poisoning scene but yk what really freaked me out when they came home from Thanksgiving and he was like "You gonna try that again?" and Elle's like "try what?" and he's like "making a pie" I was TERRIFIED bc I genuinely couldn't tell if he was talking about the pie or the poison
I totally agree with the theory about the dog being the link between both worlds but what about the bus driver? Where did he go? maybe hbo max or amazon prime can pick this show up bc I need to know more
And the smell too, everyone complained about it at the beginning
Yes exactly! I was always so confused by the bus drivers like where tf did they go? It doesn’t make any sense. This might be like a social experiment or something? Idk I wish they didn’t cancel it. Yes! I really hope someone can pick this show up.
It’s probably too late to be picked up by another company :/
there are really interesting theories about it on reddit, such as the pied piper theory

I hate Netflix so much for this cancellation...
he’s one of my favourite fictional characters ever! he was always so kind and gentle
I really love how everyone collectively agrees the grizz is the best character in the show 🤷🏽♂️
YES! he’s one of my favourite fictional characters EVER

i watched this show when it first came out and i find myself circling back to it every now and then, and every time i am diappointed that it got cancelled all over again. this show tackled such heavy topics, and did it well time and time again. from becca to cassandra's death to the kids trying to figure out how they were going to deal with campbell, who is a registered psychopath but also a person, and a kid just like them. watching the cast be so excited to go back to filming with their co-stars and then watching that all come to an abrupt end a week before was heart-crushing. this show needs to find some way to make a comeback, even if it's in a different form of media. i will take a book at this point
i could literally cry abt this show bcs it truly deserved another season😭😭
@@Sigmaskycasino yeah im sure it’s him but we’ll never know for sure
@@neivilde.1242 Yeah ur right sadly.
Could the writers not just say how the show probably would have ended at least 😭 I will take anything at this point!

I will literally never understand why they cancelled the show when they literally could have just stopped production UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. They're acting like people wouldn't be willing to waiting more months for a new season
Right?! That’s what they did for the handmaids tale and we just waited longer, no big deal. This used to be normal before streaming services.

And in the second season we would see why kids were stolen and what their parents have done
It’s been a minute since I last watched the society and watching your video reminded me of all the craziness that happened
I’m so mad they cancelled this show!! I was dying to know how that happened to them
Netflix canceling shows like The Society and Grand Army shows that they have little care for producing quality content... anyways stan a24 and HBO because they would never do us dirty like that.
I think a video on that could be pretty interesting, if not just to hear that other people feel the same 😅
Can we start a petition to bring this back pls
There was a book series called Gone, with literally the same premise and IT'S AMAZING. If any of ya'll were bummed that the show was cancelled, the book series does an amazing job at fleshing out the characters and supernatural mystery behind it all. Also, some of the kids get powers...it is way too cool
I agree 100%!!!!! This deserved a second season damnit
The way I’m never going to see my favourite ship Allie and Harry sail is so devastating 😭 I also believe that Harry and Cassandra used to date but Cass dumped Harry and that’s why there’s a bit of resentment between them 👀
This is one of my favorite shows but ofc netflix cancelled it (: I still havent gotten over it
finally someone talks about this show!! me and my best friend were devastated to hear that it got cancelled ughh so much potential
Loved this show so much just finished rewatching it for the second time and you are so spot on
this show definitely had a lot of potential, the plot in a way kinda reminded me of the 100.
What really pissed me off is that it actually did get renewed, so Netflix KNEW that a lot of people enjoyed the show, and they still went and revoked that second season😒
It was giving me season 1 of the 100 vibes and that show was so good
We will never gonna see a second season still the fans want this back they need to bring it back

I wish they could just release what happens in season 2 instead of leaving us on the biggest cliffhanger.
it was literally so good, it makes me so mad that they CONFIRMED a season 2 and then just cancelled it
Just finished watching The Society for the 2nd time.

Here’s some theories
-The parents set them up, to see who can survive and legacy of clans? Like the way Cassandra reaction before she died. She saw her mom
-Campbell didn’t kill the dog and that’s why we see it
-You have to die to go back to the real world? Example is the dog?
-time travel… look idek my own self
-Acoma? Why A car accident when they’re on the bus that’s why everything looks a little bit weird with the trees boarding everything? I got nothing
I was thinking maybe it’s a social experiment I honestly dk it has to do with the smell like when they come back the smell is gone so where did it go? Also where did the bus drivers go?

@@Sigmaskycasino oh it’s fine I read it all, but yes after Cassandra‘s death, And now it’s sat right with me and I really thought she was the main character they put everything of her being the leader. Like the story was inspired by this book called lord of the flies. The society is just like a modern day version of it. I was thinking it was going to be really similar it wasn’t that much. We couldn’t even think of
Yesss somebody talking about it!!! I really need to know where they were heading with it, I am way too curious
It's always the most interesting shows that get cancelled :( I'm still upset about the fact that The Returned got scratched after one season and Netflix didn't pick it up, although at least you can still watch the original french series, which is GREAT
I am so mad that this show is not coming back because it was soooo good.....not only were the characters relatable it really got you thinking about all the different things going on and...made me ask the question " how would that go if it was my graduating class"
i think the actor that plays Campbell looks a lot like Chuck Bass from gossip girl and i could never unsee it so it really sold his character for me
The Gone series is young adult book series with a pretty similar concept but some of the characters develop powers if any of y'all are interested in reading a series with a similar concept.
What a king for making this video I LITERALLY CRIED the cast was just as shocked because it was really popular with fans but there was too many people in the cast to film cause of covid i rest hope they bring it back though because they had the script and scenes to film ready to go! I love this lord of the flies meets teens plot with all of them being great actors. I even signed a petition to make Netflix bring it back. The least they can do is release the season 2 script bc it's already been written. Like damn I'll act it out myself if I have to just don't leave us hanging like that.
Apparently they're releasing a comic
i was loving it but you and i watched that ending through different eyes, i thought that scene was like the future of the dimession they were at, like the plaque is the founders plaque idk
