What a great production. I adore City of Angels and performed the role of Jimmy Powers several times through Southern CA. I never get tired of Cy's tight jazz harmonies. Bravo AMTSJ

I was just cast as Jimmy Powers in a local production of City of Angels! In the 8 years I've done theatre, this is my first bigger role, do you have any tips?

@@gavink.glandt727 Congrats . Yes listening to crooners from the 40s, work on having a relaxed head mix, relaxed appoggio breathing and listen for good blend. .. Esp. with "Stay With Me" .. With proper mic technique and blend you'll get that Mel-tones, Pied Pipers 40s style. A little text painting is nice too. Also important to understand seasonal skin tone. Wearing the right colors for your skin tone can really make you pop on stage We had fun going to a vintage clothing store in Orange, CA and picking out wardrobe for the scene. I wore 1940s shark tooth pants and burgundy cardigan and pokey pie hat. .. Had sort of Bing Crosby feel. For the other formal scenes I wore a black tux and slick backed hair and wore a Gable mustache. The ladies in the back up had gorgeous black velvet gowns, opera gloves and diamonds. Had a very Eva Gardner femme fatale. feel. There are indeed some crazy ass harmonies . so it is about perfect uniformity. Good luck. I'm sure you will kill it I'm on facebook send me a friend request if you want... you can find me at from my website ... I'm an artist developer I coach actors/models, and musical theatre vocalists for careers in the industry and do web portfolios, produce albums etc. jamesrspencer.com.

This was most enjoyable. I came across 'You're Nothing without Me' from this musical whilst doing some research and it's great to think I've had the chance to enjoy the entire work. Thank you for sharing.

In 1990, New YORK, Virginia Theatre, row 4 seat D, I happily enjoyed the original cast performance. James Naughton, the main lead, was a wonder of sexy talent. Overall, the entire cast was fabulous. The writing suburb. This version is fine, although not the original actors. It's a version of tBig Sleep with Bogart and Bacall. Thanks for posting.

I remember seeing City of Angels on its national tour in Washington DC back in the 90's, and it was a revelation. Such great music, lyrics, book and brilliant stagecraft. Subsequently, I played in the pit band for a production by Rockville Musical Theater in Rockville, Maryland. An amazing score. I have the original cast recording and enjoy listening to it periodically, but this video really brings the production to life. Thank you very, very much for posting this performance!

The Jazz score is ideal for the noir ambience and characters. Gelbart's book both kids the genre and is an affectionate homage

I saw this in the 1990's in London and enjoyed it but couldn't remember that much about it! I have the music but it's missing enough plot to be really confusing.
So, it was great to see it in its entirety - understand a bit more about it. There's some great performances in this production of it.
