This has made my day, month and year! I remember Isla well at pony club. She was there with a gaggle of kids a bit younger than myself, and she did not suffer fools, especially if anything was said against her tribe. She was like a fierce breath of very fresh air. So wonderful to see you Isla, and delighted that you refuse to be categorised by other people. And… they named a road after you! Who would have thought!
I lived with my best friend and her husband, whom were also my sons inlaws. People couldnt figure us out.😅 Some thought we were a thripple, some thought she and I were lesbians. The truth was, we were a family. My friend died in 2018, with me by her side. I never left her for two weeks. Her husband died the next year, from a broken heart. Let people live and love who and how they want.
Whenever I watch shows about everyday, down to earth, Australians, I marvel at how special and wonderful they are, as a whole; so different from people in U.S.
Lovely film. I wish there were more stories shared about their lives, perhaps a part 2? I can’t imagine all these two women have experienced and I’d love to hear more about all they’ve accomplished and about their love :)
Oh god what a brilliant story. Typical little Aussie battler. She’s obviously had a very tough life and it’s made her who she is. She kind of reminds me of my mother in many respects and the affinity with animals is me all over. Im pretty stubborn and non confirming too.I only wish I knew her. In my opinion she doesn’t need to put a label on herself at all. Its no one elses business what she calls herself and what happens with 2 consenting adults behind closed doors is no one elses business either. Carry on Isla. People like you are what has made Australia what it is today. Your story has made my day…. Carry on Isla.
Thank you so very much for doing this documentary ❤️. It has brought me so much joy, so many memories, and so many tears. This documentary reminds me of the good times with my own father, who could so easily have been Isla’s brother, they are so much alike. It also reminded me of my own grandmother on my mum’s side and grandfather on my dad’s side. Their dogged determination that came of that generation. I miss that so much. And it reminds me so much of the special relationship of my one remaining grandparent who has that same steely determination at the age of 84. I can only hope to have that same determination when I get to that age. I often wish that someone had done something similar to what you have done, in documenting the lives of this amazing generation. Thank you for the memories ❤ and a huge thank you to Isla and her partner for sharing their lives with us xx
@@njsmkmmsthatsit3518 hahaha. I loved this doco, and as a West Aussie who lives in farming country, Isla reminded me of the old school farmers out here - rough around the edges, but with a heart in the right place. She's delightful, and you would want her on the bar stool next to you for a laugh at the pub I reckon. 😜 Enjoy your day matey.
This is very common in retirement communities. Their husbands die in their late 60s and women couple up. I used to work in wealth management and my job as the low man on the corporate ladder, I would have to go out and get financial papers signed. And I would see this all of the time. It's not really a sexual relationship at that age, it's more about companionship.

I couldn’t really see or fault a thing in this most beautiful & entertaining documentary. I do know what you talking about though but there is great understanding & acceptance between this 2 lovely & strong women. Isla is 1:1000 lady she reminds me of my late mother in law so much & it brings tears to my eyes. They both have the same sense of humour, clever & always on the move & very family orientated. My own late mother was a strong woman too she could do anything slaughtering a pig or a chicken most things men does so can she. I am a retired nurse & l worked in aged care for a few years b4 l retired 3years ago & l have met a few Islas in there except l think this Isla will not enter a nursing home because at the rate she’s going & what she has planned she will carry on as she is until she drop & how beautiful that would be. I enjoyed this very much. Lovely to see strong women like our foremothers and I don't know why anyone would want to leave Australia either. It looks lovely.

@@dionnedunsmore9996 I think you might surprise yourself. It’s good you are able to feel for Isla, there’s so much judgment in the world today. It’s refreshing to hear someone being genuinely kind for no apparent reason. However, I’m almost 57 and I can honesty say suffering of any kind has only ever served to make me stronger. It certainly never made me any less of a human being.
Islam's very masculine, and I do understand that she doesn't want to be labelled. But I think she flips off the gay thing without giving any kindness to Susan, and it's annoying. Difficult Dame, but interesting.
Isla is soooo onviously gay lol The clipped way of speech, her mannerisms everything.we shd not judge Vibe, but, sometimes, you can. It is so disrespectful of isla to keep disavowing whp susan is to her. Im not saying i cant understand it because of isla's era, but she could stop with the "jokes" and have some more compassion.
Lables dont nessaserly mean anything to the one that others want to them wear them. Why do we have to lable every thing and everyone these days. No wonder kids are so confused these days. Isla is just isla and good on her. She comes from a aussie battler upbring that knows only life on the land. If she was of this younger genaration, the way she was brought up, doing what had to be done regardless of gender or sexulality, she would be labled gender non conforming or non binery and technically she would be Bi as she has had relationships with men befor, she just happens to be a life companion of a woman now so what is anyone getting out of trying to box her in to conforming. Back in my day we just got called tom boys and our sexulality was not of anyones business. Well isla, at her age and sprit, i doubt she conforms to anything, its her way or no way without having to please anyone under duress. If i wore all the lables others would put on me, id get lost under everyone else's preconceived ideas of who i should be. And they would be wrong and i dare say there is a lot of that in isla too but expressed in a different way. She is a near 90 yo widow mother, grandmother and great grandmother that loves her horses and her life companion and if anything still happensin the bed room , why would you want to have her confirm that? She can love who she wants in what way she does and its not up to anyone to lable her for that.
I feel sorry for her partner as she dosnt give a dam about her feelings and you can see she is hurt i think she would be a nasty person everything has to be her way
