How to repair rips in the fabric of a soft roof on a car. These slashes are often caused by vandals. It can be difficult to make a quality waterproof repair which looks good; however a good repair can be made with Stormsure Flexible Repair Adhesive. It will remain strong, yet flexible. It is tough but also waterproof and abrasion resistant. Ideal for leaking seams, windows and fixing trim too. We ship goods to USA and worldwide. This is what Cameron Dias would use on her ripped soft top if she did not buy a new car!
I bought Stormsure for a 20cm seam repair on my soft top golf cabriolet as the roof had previously had been re glued and it looked like the roof had shrunk slightly over the years.
It worked amazing and I really wasn’t expecting it too work as I didn’t use the tape as I couldn’t get inside the roof due to the liner and would have been an invisible repair if it hadn’t been repaired previously.
I’m now going to iron on a heavy duty tape over the seam and then I will repaint the roof in some Renavo so will look brand new.
Thanks Stormsure for saving me £1000
I bought this stuff and it works very, very good!!! Had a VW Cabrio and the seam had come apart in the corner about a foot long, glued it, clamped it the best we could and its holding without a problem. Very Pleased!!! Thanks, the car isn't worth $1000.00 for new top but for approx $10.00 it's well worth that.
This stuff is the real deal guys! I bought it when my heat seal was pealing away and exposing my seams, and this stuff stopped the progression! This is a really tough sealant without a doubt
I used this to make an exterior repair to my canvas roof, a corner had worn away, I filled it with Stormsure to stop it wearing any further, that was 3 1/2 years ago and it is still ok now!
This is much better than other videos for stormsure repairs
Thanks for your comment 1bucketseat. I appreciate your note about removing the frame. I can only suggest that you try some of the Stormsure product on some material yourself and see how thick the layer needs to be to give it the strength you need. It is much stronger than you might expect. We use it on inflatable boats where the tubes are pumped up until they are rock hard and it holds fine, even with people bouncing up and down on it. Several professional repairers use it here in England.
Hey Steve, Stormsure will stick to most fabrics. Clean off any dirt with soap and water first and if it is greasy use a solvent cleaner like Iso-Propyl Alcohol (same as rubbing alcohol). We also have some great TUFF Tapes which are SO abrasion resistant and are good for places which get worn by regular contact with roof struts.
How To Fix Things I have a small tear from wear on the seams where it connects to the entrance of the drainage area at the top of the window. It constantly leaks there and I thought cleaning it would work, but didn’t, and still leaks like crazy when it rains! Would this stuff actually patch the rubber part of the seal so it doesn’t leak and drains more properly? If so, I’m buying this stuff ASAP!
Hello Syyenergy7
Actually the adhesive sets and forms a layer of polyurethane. The thickness of the glue will determine the strength of the film once it is cured. On test samples I have done on this material, the material rips before the glue fails when attempting to pull it apart. The polyurethane material is really very strong. Sure, if you only have a very thin layer of glue it will not be very strong. But you do not actually need to use a patch. (But of course you can if you want to!)
The adhesive forms a very smooth interface with the fabric and will not make any extra wind noise.
The best way will be to put sticky tape over the top to keep the fabric in exactly the right place while glueing. Paint a few thin layers of glue over the damaged are on the inside. Thin layers of glue will not drip. Allow to dry between applying layers. Keep the opened tube of glue in the freezer to stop it curing in the tube and arm up again before use.
Fabric tears before glue fails? I'm sold! Going to order some!
looks nice on video, also looks like a vw cabrio convertible, you need to mention the top material was removed from the frame to do the job on a work table, the time to remove and reinstall the top is 6.5 hours if you know what your doing. i wonder how strong the bond is under pressure when top is locked into position and how well it would hold . under pressure i dont think it would work for the 6.5 hours i invest in removing and reinstalling, this is 25 years in auto upholstery talking to you.
You can apply Stormsure flexible repair adhesive to the leaking area. You do not need to use a patch. Just apply the glue to the are and let it form a flat thin layer, and let it cure. It is really tough, flexible and waterproof. Put some sticky tape under the leak if the holes are large enough to let the glue drip through, then remove the tape when the glue has cured.
Easy on a flat piece, what about when the roof is on the car still???
It will be slightly harder but still doable. You need to use a Tuff Tape patch underneath the rip to stop the glue dripping down. Once the glue is cured, you can remove the patch.
You get patches in the Convertible Roof Repair Kit.
Yes we sell it on eBay too.
Hi Robert, I have it about 1/2" cut on front of car near where it meets front windshield. Can I do it without removing whole cloth? I can have plastic around if its dripping around. I can send you picture of it too. I want to make sure before I really purchase this product.
My Mustang's convertible top got slashed from the drivers side all the way over to the passengers side. Will this product be able to hold? Will it repair that big of a slice?
Good stuff but can u get it from auto zone or a local store
a great product how long has this been available
Hi George, The adhesive had been around for 20 years or more but we started packing it into car roof repair kits quite recently. The black variety only came out last year.
I have a rough patch on the outside of the roof where it's rubbed - not a hole yet, just abraded. Do you recommend Tuff tape on the inside (it's quite hard to get to) or could I use stormsure on the outside and rub it into the worn area to reinforce it - or both?
I was wondering the same what did you end up doing?
@@kaytistowe8796 it hasn't got any worse so I've left it for now... I'll tape it from the inside soon though
I'm having issues on my Honda S2000 with water soaking into the stitches along one side of my roof. The water collects in the rubber seal below and when you drive off or open the roof the passenger gets a soaking. I'm going to try this which collects in the leaking adhesive to see if it helps.
Do you notice any wind noises when driving?
Thanks for the tip. Here's a tip in return. Next time, skip the background music.
Noted!
Thanks for your comments. Do you have a photo of the repair you can send or post?
I have a seam coming loose on my soft top, upholstery shop says it can't be fixed (of course) and wants 2k for replacement.Would this work for my loose seam? Thank you
Hi. Two thousand is a very unfortunate quote. This should work providing you can keep the seam together while the glue cures (about 12 hours).
Ok thanks.
will this work with any atheasive?
LOOKS GREAT
How can you leave it flat when it's on a car's soft top which is still attached????
pyau9333 rightttttt
Hi, can you coat a slightly worn area to stop water coming in as well?
Hi. You can. We recommend mixing the glue with thinner though, as it will soak in far better when its thinner:

Widely available on eBay and Amazon
Do they still make this product
Where can I buy this
what temperature should the glue be applied at and cured at?
Ideally between 10ºC and 30ºC, but not lower than 5ºC.
My rip is separating the window back and the vinyl
This should be able to stick it back together.
Would be better without music please
In no way is that repair strong enough as it was done. It would at least need a quality material on the backside adhered across the cut portion so as to bridge the cut. Otherwise it's a lot weaker than the original material.
@longvxr95 try ebay
@japsniper1980 go to SkI.com i have a some what same issue in my S2k
