Crazy how I've been waiting to check how the VR market is going for buying my setup, and then the best video (this one) comes out literally 20 mins before. Crazy good timing! Thanks so much for this!
I was looking for this video a few weeks ago myself. most of the hardware videos don't seem to recognize that there are folks like me who don't know how they feel about VR but don't want to go budget just to immediately replace it.
Poor ✓ Linux ✓ Facebook boycott ✓ Fairly small room ✓ No idea about drilling ✓ Not the strongest PC ✓ Although I think the last point isn't quite as important anymore. Still... Feels like I'm never going to experience VR.
I don’t recommend any standalone vr if you’re getting into VRchat, it hinders your experience quite a bit, but if you’re willing to just connect it to a pc, then I would just go for standalone with a link, full body and everything else is just meant for more expressive movements, like dancing, so unless you plan to become a vr breakdancer, I wouldn’t go after that stuff either.
I know it's a little late, but for next year during the winter I think it'd be really cool to have a "How to Celebrate the Holidays in VRChat" video about Christmas and New Years.
Yeah, avoid the major event unless you have an rtx 4080 gpu or equivalent to avoid lag a crashing. On a serious note, I think going over some holiday themed worlds would be great. There are a few Christmas themed worlds (like the amusement park) that aren't well known but a lot of fun.
@Bananaa_- major events typically have between 60 to 80 people. That in itself is a lot of rendering for your gpu, but add on special avatars 150mb+ in suze and it's a recipe for major lag. Quest can handle 30 people of not everyone has large avatar sizes.
For people who have trouble with the comfort of the Quest 2, I hated it and couldn't play without pain for longer than 30 minutes until I got the Bobo M2 headstrap with the battery. Definitely recommend trying it or any other headstrap with a counterweight on the back/a halo design. Now hours and hours blow by and I barely feel discomfort at all, and definitely do not feel pain. Got me back into VR after a long lull!
Bobo is great for Quest2 BUT I just got my Quest 3 version of it for my Quest 3 and I gotta say it does not hold up. It's better than the stock Q3 strap but it doesn't compare to the quest2 version.
Totally agree on both points, the wife wouldn't even put her Quest 2 on until the strap arrived (having tried mine). The moving of the weight onto the top of your head makes it so much more comfortable with the Bobo, you can even partly flip the headset up whilst using it to talk to people.
My headstrap just arrived, and damnnnnnn it's a whole new world. Tysm for the recommendation! (I also got some action traps for the controllers that haven't arrived yet)
I’m only halfway through this video but this is the best “VR in 2024” video I’ve seen, even 9 months on. You’re not actively trying to sell me with affiliate links, just giving honest info. Thank you so much, you’re a true gem!!
3 minutes in and there's not much info. What people really need to be informed about is how torturing it is just to set any of this vr gear up is. The vr devs need to make this simpler before ANYTHING vr happens going forward.
What I should have by the end of the year: Bigscreen VR Tundra trackers (Already have the base stations and Index knuckles) Maybe the Katwalk depending on if I care enough about walking Here's hoping 🤞
Bigscreen actually made a video on the diy eye tracking and fully supports it even going as far as to put the items for the diy kit in the video description wich i find pretty cool.
They want to expand the BigScreen. If you have ever gone on Steam and used their VR game. It is worth a play. Game is same name as the company. So many things to share and watch and play and listen to. It is similar to VR chat. However, it does one thing better than VR chat. It allows you to share media in live time easily with others. Also, BigScreen does produce quality products that I have seen so far. I need to upgrade from my OG Vive. I Would like passthrough. However, I think Bigscreen is where it is at. I understand that there is flare in the edges of bright screens or objects. So, that has me worried a bit. Right now, I am torn between Quest 3 and Bigscreen. My HTC Vive is still in really good condition. However, I am tired of the bulk and the image quality. I am really worried about the leap to a new headset.
@@CosmicChew Well i mean coming from a quest 2 id say the quest 3 is certaintly worth it for me if you dont mind the weight ofcourse and the beyond is good for if u already have everything needed like base stations n stuff if u dont mind the price. Or you could wait till meta realeses their new headset with varifocal lenses or maybe when or if the new index drops you could go for that who knows
@@ghostlytvt3029 With the HTC Vive. Comes with base station and what not. I hope the newer headset Q4 plays even better with PCVR SteamVR. I am thinking I may just drop the money on both BigScreen and Q4.
it's been amazing to watch you grow as a content creator. the structure of your videos has improved and so has the audio engineering, even got a quest bc of you and gonna be upgrading pc to get into the larger world out there uwu. i'm high asl so im writing a lot just wanted to appreciate, no para
I'm a person who uses VR almost exclusively for sim racing and maybe something like Beat Saber, but is just now looking into doing VR Chat. I just went from the Quest 2 to the Quest 3 and I have to say that it is well-worth the extra money.
As a new VR user who opted for a PICO 4, I'd say the advice for the Quest 2/3 pretty much applies to the PICO. Quality wise you could consider it to be a Quest 2.5, and the official streaming app works flawlessly when connecting to PCVR, both wired or wireless. There's also the PICO trackers, which might be a cheap way to try out simple FBT before taking the plunge into more expensive options. Edit: All my info on the PICO trackers comes from the following video: ua-cam.com/video/-zSK7A_bM2E/v-deo.html
As someone that hops between the Q3 and Pico4 both are great headsets, both standalone and for PCVR. I did find the performance for the Quest being great right out the box using the link cable as well as the Oculus app in comparison the Pico's streaming software. In Virtual Desktop you should be able to get better performance for both headsets by avoiding their software. If the Pico 5 were coming out I would have stayed within Pico long-term.
@@MaterialFuture I've had no issues at all using the official Pico streaming app for PCVR, both wired and wireless. From what I've researched, at launch the app was so-so, but it has improved drastically, to the point that Virtual Desktop is no longer a necessity. But I haven't compared, to be honest, once I tried the streaming app, I had no need to buy Virtual Desktop so... Maybe it does work better. 😅 I got my Pico 4 headset mid-december 2023, so I didn't encounter many of the issues early adopters had... Including the pleasant surprise of finding VRChat in the Pico store for free.
I’ve never had a PC, I haven’t owned a tablet until I was 17, I’ve been on Vrchat ONCE via bypassing school filters, and now I’m considering buying a headset because I’ve landed a job and my homies all have quests. Quite the turn I’m super excited and thank you for the guidance!!! I’m considering the Quest 3!
The was a hardware mod that adds EyetrackVR to Bigscreen Beyond. The official Bigscreen UA-cam channel showed it off and showed interest in a possible official kit for it (or at least that was what it seemed to me). Plus as a Linux user, the EyetrackVR is something I want. The HTC VIVE Pro Eye didn't have Linux supported eye tracking nor did the face tracking. So open source solutions are what are required for me to use those features. Here's hoping a FOSS face tracker happens.
Thanks Phia! This is a great update. This one video just answered like four or five questions that I had. I think this is going to be a big year for the VR community, it is good to stay up to date with all the new options that are coming out. Kinetic
I just bought a Quest 2 256gb, slightly preowned, $190 on eBay on the recommendation of a GameStop Clerk. Seems like they are corporate or display models. It came with everything new in box. I didn’t need the biggest or best thing. PSVR1 was the only experience I had with vr previously. If I come to love this I’ll upgrade down the line.
Big screen beyond has already had a DIY accessory made that has tutorials and everything for eye tracking! Very cool if you’re tech literate and can solder
Was very back and forth on whether I should invest in VR since I was afraid it would make my depression worse but after some consideration of the benefits vs costs coupled with a healthy mindset of why I'm gonna do the things I aim to do in VR, I've decided to put VR headset in my longterm planning schedule and this video AB-SO-LUTELY helps making this ungodly expensive venture more bearable!!
I highly recommend getting the Valve Index, Such a solid quality hewadset. Comes with the best con trollers on VR market and already comes with 2 basestations! I am a previous owner of the Valve Index, Great Microphone, audio quality. Best visuals. Great FOV/Refresh Rate and overall a beauty. I highly recommend upgrading to the Bigscreen VR. As that will be my next purchase.
Do you recommend buying it new now even with the rumours of the next headset? I bought a deck and it was delivered THE DAY the oled deck was announced and I feel like with my luck it'll happen again lmao. I did get £40 back though.
I'm currently running Quest 3 + Index controllers + Vive tracker 3.0s. Takes a little setup, but the visuals and wireless freedom are awesome. Bigscreen doesn't work with my wide IPD :( That shot of Brad lol
@@RyanR3STL3SS I want to upgrade my vive and was thinking a quest 3 might be cool with its fancy lenses. I don't mind buying a tracker for it, is it much of a pain to setup everytime you play? I already have index controllers and 6 trackers for my body so I want to keep it all light house.
@@RyanR3STL3SS That other guy is still waiting on a response and Imma chime in too and maybe bring this back to light. But since you have it zip tied on, does that mean that you still have to calibrate every time you turn on/restart the headset, or is it somehow managed automatically? (I'm planning on upgrading to the Quest Pro soon and I already have 3 Tundras with my Quest 2. Just wondering about the answer to my question in order to plan out my long run)
A buddy of mine who just got into VR recommended your channel when I was already subscribed to you lol, he said he saw your diorama in the VR chat New Year's World!
I'm a current index and vive 3.0 user, but after a few years my index is looking worse for wear haha. I've used this opportunity to purchase a quest pro for the face tracking plus an extra vive tracker to use fbt with it, i'm so looking forward to the change since i also suffer from the small head swallowed by big headset problem xD the quest pro looks a lot nicer on my cheekbones since it puts the weight on the forehead instead. Thanks for the video Fia!
8:20 just to add it, since you didn't mention it: SlimeVR can also still be very difficult to setup and configure. Even if you follow all the steps, it is heavily reliant on *how* they are mounted to your body and the initial skeleton measurement in order to work properly. It can work for some people, but it's VERY DIY. This problem increases exponentially when you create your own trackers.
the index 2 is going to be nuts. i wont be able to afford it but itll be nice to see what innovations Valve comes up with for their next VR kit. their controllers are still some of the best, perhaps they will think of a new feature that will change that.
8:38 watching this with my SlimeVRs 😂 (I’ve WAITED 2 YEARS!!) Just so y’all know, you should definitely get them. Most of the backers (such as myself) waited multiple years for them to ship, so a couple of months is a snatch! Get them before they’re out of stock!
this channel--this video specifically--has given me the most smiles and "bro" and "that's so cool" per minute I've ever had I think. you have myriad cool things in your room !!!!!
Im always surprised to not see any info in infrared light. I know its quest only but its soo nice to have, just for the sake of not losing focus or having many lights turned on
If you have room and can tollerate a cable. Just get a Index and Vive 3.0 trackers. The direct steam support for the hardware and simplistic of set up and updates is so much better than the constant headache the Quest headsets can have. Thats my personal opinion on the matter. Takes me at most 5 min to get in vr, 8-10 if im going full body.
agreed. i still have my OG quest & they stopped providing updates about a year ago. i don't understand why nobody mentions the longevity of these devices, but only 4 years of software support is unacceptable.
Current Setup: Bigscreen Beyond 2x Index controllers 2x Base Station 2.0 8x Tundra trackers bHaptics vest, arms, legs KAT Walk C2+ Wishlist: More haptics Face and eye tracking Moving away from wired + base stations without having to recalibrate tracking constantly
Ive been using VR since 2017. I compiled a list of everything I want in VR. It would be great to get a headset that has a crazy high refresh rate, high fov, extremely clear image (maybe at least 4k per eye if not 8k per eye), no fernel lens effects, both optional stand alone and PC cable connected (easily pops out incase someone trips over cable), a flip-up front optics (flip up front part), adjustable for dramatic eye apart or closeness widths, easy to adjust on the head (push, pull, tighten head set to fit head length with no cables rubbing or grinding), adustable for glasses, feels comfortable on the head, not too heavy, not too much light leak, comfortable around the nose area (allows you to move your nose around and see through nose area) comfortable top strap, comfortable to sleep with, easy clean detachable and strong facal fabric, optional plug-inable headphones along with standard issue headphones (good and durable headphones like the valve-index), flip-up headphones (flip it away from your ear easily; durable enough to lay and sleep on it; comfortable enough to sleep in VR with it), a clear mic (like the valve index mic), fully compatible with face tracking (eye, mouth, and tongue tracking accuracy), doesn't spy on you, compatable with valve-index controllers, compatable with valve wands, compatable with 2.0 base stations (no third party software), compatable with vive trackers (all 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 trackers), compatable with haptic feedback suit and tredmills, affordable (within $1000), has a good product support service team, video tutorials for product setup, well tested for durability and quality (with goal to make one headset to rule them all), a feedback form, easy to set up devices guide (calibrates and configures quickly), has menus to fully configure and customize controller button layouts, has a button on the headset (for sleep, awaken, and power; also an additional functions button which is configurable to any function or controller button a user wants), comes with cool stickers, has an excellent box and unboxing experience, and is widely used by users due to a great and excellent marketing team. That's what I want and I'm willing to pay for.
i have gone though 2 vr headsets, an old lenovo mixed reality headset, hp reverb g2 (it sadly mostly died on me so cant use it anymore) and then my sister got me a quest 2 for Christmas and got to say im impressed even tho its not top of the line.
Yeah, I got a battery head strap and facial interface straight away, and a good 6ghz router. I want to get more external batteries and a charger, and maybe prescription lenses in the future. However, the wireless PCVR experience on the quest 3 makes up for the additional costs. The lenses are a game changer, and Steam Link rocks at 350mbit encoding.
I’m completely new to pc VR, but I have a lot of experience with VR and research and I’ve been looking to get a big screen beyond because most of my headsets are just uncomfortable for me and big screen beyond just looks a whole Nother league ahead of comfortability and I do have the budget but I need some tips because I gotta get a PC and a whole set up as well
I’m in VR since last week. Got myself a Quest 2 so if I don’t like it I don’t have a hole in my pocket. Got it on long term rent, so I only pay a couple Bucks for the usage and probably will upgrade to the Quest 3 or maybe 4 if it’s out then in a year. For now I’m very happy with the 2, got myself an better strap and some correction lenses which should arrive in two days. As a cheaper entry it’s still great imo.
most definitely getting the bigscreen beyond. hopefully i can figure out how to do the DIY tracking because it seems like something fun to learn and do.
Now there were a few things PHIA left out in this video like Full Body Estimation which is a trackerless solution for full body tracking, although it's not very good yet but is good for people who absolutely need tracking but can't afford trackers yet.
I know this is 4 months later but I have a quest 3 but I’m pretty much unable to buy these so if anyone is in my situation I had watched a a few videos covering some full body tracking apps that you can get on your phone and I started using Viso. Not perfect but it’s decent and I cant really say much since I only really tested it for about an hour on VRC but it does work just don’t be like me and have only 1 rather dim lamp on and be wearing jeans and a black shirt because it struggled quite a bit. I will edit this post when I have done further testing. I have also gotten a new head strap with external battery from Kiwi design and boy I’m glad I did. SO much more comfortable and didn’t feel any after effect like I did with the standard head straps. I’m sure there are far better but a friend recommended me the one I got and got it in 2 days did 1 to 1 1/2 hours of testing and had no issues. I do think at some point I would like to get a better headset and some proper trackers but at the moment I need to focus on saving money for more important matters such as getting a car. And a better job. Then I can go to thinking about other things.
I recently won a Meta Quest three from work as a raffle prize and was definitely blown away compared to my previous VR venture back in 2017 when I bought an HTC Vive. I’m 1000% waiting for the “valve index 2” or I may go big or go home with the big screen beyond and index knuckle controllers.
My biggest issue is that. I do want an easy setup that I can also have a full body tracking without fanangeling much with softwares and stuff. I'm a pretty simple person and if I have to hop trough hoops and loops to get thing working I can just easily get frustrated. I so want to get to VR but my friends are giving me all different recommendations with varying degree of hardwares. Not to mention that I do need to wear glasses whilst doing VR And as mentioned valve VR is outdated so now i'm just in an eternal loop of waiting for something like Valve VR 2 to happen just to enjoy vr maybe sometime in 20+ years.
Thanks for the video, really well done and helped me out a ton as I was stuck between 3 different picks (Quest 3, Index, BigScreen Beyond)! Decided to get a Quest 3 for now with the plan to eventually upgrade to a BigScreen once I have all the other needed setup accessories, and overall pretty satisfied with the Quest 3 even though I haven't gotten to set it up much yet outside of watching some shows in the browser for a cozy big screen experience. Looking forward to checking out the different apps available to the Quest 3 as well as checking out stuff like VR Chat and other VR games on steam!
if you connect q3 to pc with a good link cable it is far better than index minus knuckles controllers the fov is very vlose and the lenses are better on q3 and you also have a larger menu of games for just quest and pc such as boneworks and just quest like asquards wrath
Using an oculus rift for my full body tracking is my go-to, since I already have everything (aside from a 3rd controller to use as a chest tracker, so I instead opt in to using the headset itself), it's very awesome! And I didn't really spend any money on it, since it was my brother's old headset.
It would be amazing if we had a headset with all of the features, the quest 3 has the best display, valve index has the best hand tracking, quest pro has facial tracking, and few headsets come with full body tracking
I like all the new progress made in VR but i am still using my Oculus Rift CV1 + touch with a kinect V2 for FBT lol If only there was a Rift 2 so i could just upgrade the visual tech on the headset and keep my whole setup . . .
I just upgraded from an HTC VIVE I got used in Facebook marketplace in 2020 for $100 to a Quest 2 I got on rollback at Walmart for $150! I’m using steam link on the quest 2 to wirelessly play my PCVR games with the BOBOVR battery head strap so I never have to charge it. It’s amazing.
I got an update! I got my trackers recently! And boy was I surprised, sure at first I wasn't sure how to set it up, but I eventually got it, and getting set up has never been easier! Not to mention the quality of the tracking itself is something you have to experience for yourself, but it truly shocked me! I look forward to using them more in the future!!
It so sad you guys in America did not get the Pcio 4.. Its the upgrade from Q2 b4 q3... But loved the vid. I wait for ne wwireless , can never go with wire once used to slime vr (12 of em daily) dance form living room to kitchen ;)
i'm enter in VR gaming in 6 dec 2023, with a Valve index and now at 9 Avr i will receive my 3 Vive Tracker 3.0, this is my Actual VR setup :) and i love it !
Saw this video. I got my Slimes and while I am still figuring out how to set up tracking to make sure it works, just the fact that I have accessible full body tracking is amazing. I have a blast using them, just needs some tweaks in calibration. Slimes plus Quest 2 Airlink combo makes this a great way to have completely wireless VR at an affordable budget while using PCVR. I know standalone Quest only is possible but I prefer VRChat in PC/Steam.
My Quest 2 head strap looks insane. I have BoboVR with the center strap going front to back across the middle of the top of my head with strong Velcro attached to it. I got an old basketball cap, cut out the front visor, and attached Velcro to the top attaching it to the Bobo strap. On the back of that strap is something to hold the PC cable to keep it behind me. I use a similar thing on the left side to keep the Bobo power cable out of the way when using the PC cable. Underneath the cap, I folded a washcloth to prop up the Oculus higher up my head so the front face is now eye level. I tried attaching stuff to those two rubber things on the top of the Bobo, but this puts all the weight of the headset on two small areas on the top of my head and the pressure causes me intense pain for some reason. Using the washcloth distributes the weight evenly and the fabric of the cap helps keep the Quest from sliding around my face and dipping forward from the heavy front weight. The problem is there's too much weight on the Oculus. It should contain the lenses, displays, and gyros AND NOTHING ELSE. Everything remaining should be hook on a belt or something like the battery and computer stuff that makes it a standalone headset. Putting it all in the front of your face is bad design. The headset is always fighting to slide down your face requiring you to either vice grip it to your head or do the insane stuff I'm doing. Do better Valve on your second headset. Make it light as possible and make it comfortable!!!
i went from index to quest 3 mostly due to the weight of the headset of the index that and the finger tracking can be a little buggy with the controllers, but if you can somehow get a different controller to work with quest 3 the hand tracking won't be much of a issue. just be careful when charging the headset started seeing some sort of pixeling not sure if it was the heat or the charge being at 100 while still charging. an yes get a fan with it that thing gets ridiculously hot on the forehead. i don't see bigscreen as a option due to the price for just the headset. if there was a headset the same size for less of the price then yeah might be worth getting.
I bought a Quest 2 last month for my birthday bc I noticed it had finally dropped in price. I was so happy. Imagine the sinking feeling in my gut when I found out a week later that the only reason it went on sale was bc the Quest 3 just came out... I had no idea, I stopped following VR news years ago bc I figured I'd never be able to get a headset bc they're so expensive (VR is SO expensive 💀), and I'm a disabled broke boy. I'm happy with my Quest 2, but there's a lingering icky feeling now knowing the Quest 3 was _right there._ I've even spent ~$100 extra dollars on it for a better headstrap (and some other nifty things) with Christmas Money due to the OG headstrap giving me severe neck strain for 2wks, and I could've just used that money to put towards the Quest 3 instead. Oh well lol. Maybe I'll upgrade in a few years. This is a fantastic guide btw, your videos are the only reason I know about various trackers and how to make your own avatars for VRChat. Please pardon my lil rant. Happy VR-ing! ♥
if you NEED eye tracking but have no need for the highest of resolutions and are on a bit of a budget, you can also opt for the Pico Neo 3 Pro Eye, these cost around 750 to 950 dollars. depends on where you get can get it from what I can tell. I personally can pick one up for 750 euro's. It can be used as a standalone Headset aswel, boasting a Snapdragon XR2 These have inside out tracking, so no base station needed. The resolution is a little less than the Pico 4. at 3664x1920 so its not as good as some others. But, it still has a wired, full fat Displayport cable. Why this is important? a lot of the newer headsets only do streaming or via a USB-C cable and not even displaylink or Display port Art mode, this necessitates a lot of compression. But... given the Pico Neo 3(Pro, andPro eye) uses a dsiplayport cable it is lossless! Hurray for quality. But... it is an older HMD, released in 2021 I think. but for those rocking the Reverb G2 I feel this is one of the very few worthy replaces primarily because of the full Display port option. Given I plan on using VR to for Driving games (not racing specific, ETS2 for instance or any other driving game i can force into a VR-Like experience) I do want that full fat DP port. The full spec rundown is on Pico's website. the Headset is still a bit of a chonker, not as slim as the newer ones. But it is a good alternative non the less.
Its crazy Ive been waiting years for VR to kind of stabilize and get to a point its not a disaster to get in to. And literally nothings changed. lol. No wonder its a tanking market.
I just bought my Valve index and it arrives today. I just wanted the knuckles and base stations without having to buy them separately. I plan on using the index as much as possible and then upgrade later in the year because I’m sure the big screen VR will be topped by something else and the index is STILL reliable so i’m not worried.

Tysm for the headstrap tip! Just got one, can't wait to try it out! The discomfort is 90% of why I don't use my Oculus 2 more.
Bobo headstrap with battery is an insane upgrade. With two or more batteries, you can hotswap and charge meaning basically infinite time on wireless.
My headstrap just arrived, and damnnnnnn it's a whole new world. Tysm for the recommendation! (I also got some action traps for the controllers that haven't arrived yet)

Ooo. I use a Pico 4, but didn't know they did trackers. I'll have a look at them.
@@angelaslittlebit pico trackers are not suitable for stuff like VRChat. They're mostly for fitness where you don't need the precision as much.
@@arsteel2388 They also seem to only work with one game for now, and it's in beta. Slimes will probably be more useful.
I got my Pico 4 headset mid-december 2023, so I didn't encounter many of the issues early adopters had...
Quite the turn
I’m super excited and thank you for the guidance!!!
Hopefully the Deckard will help with VR Linux compatibilities.
Thanks Phia!
This is a great update. This one video just answered like four or five questions that I had. I think this is going to be a big year for the VR community, it is good to stay up to date with all the new options that are coming out.

Bro I was just binge watching your vids then I found you here wth?! What a coincidence!
It's a small Universe. That's funny. Yeah, I like Phia, she is one of the first Vtubers that ever caught my attention. @@StarLeader44
Very cool if you’re tech literate and can solder
lol seconds before 🤣😂🤣
Was very back and forth on whether I should invest in VR since I was afraid it would make my depression worse but after some consideration of the benefits vs costs coupled with a healthy mindset of why I'm gonna do the things I aim to do in VR, I've decided to put VR headset in my longterm planning schedule and this video AB-SO-LUTELY helps making this ungodly expensive venture more bearable!!

Bigscreen doesn't work with my wide IPD :(
That shot of Brad lol
Do you have a tracker on the quest 3 so it has light house tracking too?
@@MrFathead yup. Zip ties on.
Ordered the Big Screen after multiple people and you have the eye tracking solution I needed
cant wait for all the new content in 2024 PHIA :D
Hope they also get some kind of inbuilt face-tracking too, one of the only things I'm missing out on.
I recently got a Quest 3 and didn't expect to spend as much time playing VRChat as I have in the past few weeks
I’ve missed you making videos. Glad to see a new one 🙌
I really wanna get back into VR in 2024, perfect timing. I was waiting for something better than the index
8:38 watching this with my SlimeVRs 😂 (I’ve WAITED 2 YEARS!!)
Just so y’all know, you should definitely get them. Most of the backers (such as myself) waited multiple years for them to ship, so a couple of months is a snatch! Get them before they’re out of stock!
Thanks for this comment! 💕 I just ordered mine yesterday, they should ship by the end of may/june 😄 plus I’ll get the quest 3 as well 👍🏻
this channel--this video specifically--has given me the most smiles and "bro" and "that's so cool" per minute I've ever had I think. you have myriad cool things in your room !!!!!
Im always surprised to not see any info in infrared light. I know its quest only but its soo nice to have, just for the sake of not losing focus or having many lights turned on
Sadly, that trick no longer works with the Quest 3 :(
If you have room and can tollerate a cable.

That's what I want and I'm willing to pay for.
at 683 seconds the snippit is great. Love this video. As someone who actually recently wanted information on VR..
its so crazy how relevant the index and q2 are present day(they deserve it). amazing video btw, love to see it!
i have gone though 2 vr headsets, an old lenovo mixed reality headset, hp reverb g2 (it sadly mostly died on me so cant use it anymore) and then my sister got me a quest 2 for Christmas and got to say im impressed even tho its not top of the line.
FYI if u get a quest 2 or 3.
ur still gonna end up modding it to make it more comfortable.
I'm using a Pico 4 for a year now and I'm super happy with it. the cost-effectiveness is amazing for PCVR.
most definitely getting the bigscreen beyond. hopefully i can figure out how to do the DIY tracking because it seems like something fun to learn and do.
Now there were a few things PHIA left out in this video like Full Body Estimation which is a trackerless solution for full body tracking, although it's not very good yet but is good for people who absolutely need tracking but can't afford trackers yet.
Great video! This is a much needed guide. For some reason, this year feels big for VR 🎉

anyone other than existing PC VR users *Me looking at my CV1* that... that counts...
I mean that eye trackvr be looking spicy I might wanna try that! Amazing video as per usual ^-^
Not to mention that I do need to wear glasses whilst doing VR
And as mentioned valve VR is outdated so now i'm just in an eternal loop of waiting for something like Valve VR 2 to happen just to enjoy vr maybe sometime in 20+ years.
you can get prescription clip on lenses for your headsets, i was gonna do it back when i used my quest 2 a lot, seemed worth it.
I don't get it but wont question it. Thank you.
Searching for hours and this video is the one that made it simple enough to understand.
Yay!!!! You’ve posted again!
Looking forward to checking out the different apps available to the Quest 3 as well as checking out stuff like VR Chat and other VR games on steam!
lmfao the sadleyitsbradley reference at ~5:20 had me dead
if you connect q3 to pc with a good link cable it is far better than index minus knuckles controllers the fov is very vlose and the lenses are better on q3 and you also have a larger menu of games for just quest and pc such as boneworks and just quest like asquards wrath
And tracking is alot better on q3 but my index is a bit old
0:58 "last gen hardware" lmaooo me with my quest 1 (its still kicking)
2:56 oh and I did that too💀
last gen doesnt mean its bad br 😭
Using an oculus rift for my full body tracking is my go-to, since I already have everything (aside from a 3rd controller to use as a chest tracker, so I instead opt in to using the headset itself), it's very awesome! And I didn't really spend any money on it, since it was my brother's old headset.
love vr, i just hope in a few years itll be cheaper so i can get some fbt lol
It would be amazing if we had a headset with all of the features, the quest 3 has the best display, valve index has the best hand tracking, quest pro has facial tracking, and few headsets come with full body tracking
I like all the new progress made in VR but i am still using my Oculus Rift CV1 + touch with a kinect V2 for FBT lol
If only there was a Rift 2 so i could just upgrade the visual tech on the headset and keep my whole setup . .
As a PSVR1 player, I can confirm rec room is the only game I play (it's the only actual game for free on PSVR 1)
I recently got a used index I upgraded from the quest 2 I’m super happy with it for now but always thinking of more upgrades
I know standalone Quest only is possible but I prefer VRChat in PC/Steam.
wait, so I have to buy a base station if I ever wished to get a full body tracking on meta quest 2 or 3? (is it worth it?)
The subliminal Brad flash gave me a laugh
Love your channel ty for all you do!
I'm finally looking into upgrading my VR setup (still using a CV1 lol) and this was super helpful and informative. Thank you for the great video~
When Phia uploads I know it’s gonna be a good night
Can’t wait to hear what you have to say!!! I’m about to do a full setup!
This is great! I was just wanting to get back into vr!
Get big screen beyond. Small form factor with the best screen of any consumer headset.
2 of my friends returned them after trying it out, has me skeptical for sure
i went from index to quest 3 mostly due to the weight of the headset of the index that and the finger tracking can be a little buggy with the controllers, but if you can somehow get a different controller to work with quest 3 the hand tracking won't be much of a issue. just be careful when charging the headset started seeing some sort of pixeling not sure if it was the heat or the charge being at 100 while still charging. an yes get a fan with it that thing gets ridiculously hot on the forehead. i don't see bigscreen as a option due to the price for just the headset. if there was a headset the same size for less of the price then yeah might be worth getting.
11:12 Do you think using a quest pro for VRC for multiple hours a week would be a bad time? Do you only recommend it for occasional use?
phiabunny dancing with her avatar at 8:03 brings a smile for some reason. Too bad there's no face tracking. The avatar isn't smiling.
i have previously used psvr and rift s, i plan on moving to dpvr e4
Whats best body tracking for. Quest 2 VR ?
Very thorough video! Even being a VR veteran, I still learned a few things.
It's so much fun to play VR with this setup! Don’t forget to add Freeland game to your recommendations, it’s launching soon and looks amazing!
By far the best guide out there. Ty ❤
Thank this helped ALOT, I've been wanting to upgrade and this helped
Still on my Q2 but I might manage to get some sort of upgrade this year. Thanks for the round-up, Phia!
if you NEED eye tracking but have no need for the highest of resolutions and are on a bit of a budget, you can also opt for the Pico Neo 3 Pro Eye, these cost around 750 to 950 dollars. depends on where you get can get it from what I can tell. I personally can pick one up for 750 euro's.
It can be used as a standalone Headset aswel, boasting a Snapdragon XR2
These have inside out tracking, so no base station needed.

You dont need all that virtual desktop emulate vive tracker now and you have a. Full body even with 0 controller

glad to stumble on this channel. Thanks for the great info.
I just bought my Valve index and it arrives today. I just wanted the knuckles and base stations without having to buy them separately. I plan on using the index as much as possible and then upgrade later in the year because I’m sure the big screen VR will be topped by something else and the index is STILL reliable so i’m not worried.
Awesome video Phia!
