    This is brilliant! The way the acting and the pace of the episode pushes the story along. While in a sense we are spared the details of the tragedy in Dagliesh's life, the scene at the church has a greater impact than if we had witnessed the birth and death of his family. He is one of those rare human beings who must live his pain inwardly. Makes one stop and spare a thought for the countless real-life detectives that carry a personal burden and yet carry on with their gruesome job. But someone has to do it.

    9:30 I love it when _Mr. Middlemass_ tells _Dr. Lorrimer_ (Geoffrey Palmer) off! Stephen Thorne holds his own with the great G. Palmer and the two of them make the scene epic!

    Why did the young girl, the pathologist's daughter, want Lorrimer dead? Neither of her parents had a grudge against Lorrimer and she had never met him? Or was it Lorrimer calling when her parents were arguing, causing her father to answer and her mother to leave?

    • @lighthousecollector

      Lorrimer had a go at her and her brother when they were waiting for their dad at the lab . This isn't shown in the film but is referered to by others several times

      Still, it was her two parents she was totally focused on. When she sat with that lifelike effigy of doctor Lorimer and stabbed it slowly with the knitting needle it just did not fit with what was upsetting that particular child.

      @ddmcpaisley6299: As soon as l saw that blond hair, l remembered where l had seen Barry Foster before. In a Hitchcock movie titled "Frenzy". I will not spoil anything by giving away the plot. Much later l saw G. Palmer in a sitcom with Judi Dench, where they played long-lost sweethearts. She, now middle-aged, ran a typing service with her daughters, he had an autobiography to be processed, that's how they got together again. Just a little bit of trivia.😊 Love British shows!

    seems to be some major cuts here & in episode 2 as well. Suddenly there's 6 weeks of letters between Lorimer and the sister? Did Dalgliesh's wife and baby sie?? I'm glad they cut that -- would've been sentimental slow & unncessary.

      It does not make him a wimp! He just lost his confidence....in himself.

    Did Dalgleish really have to have such a homely-looking wife? No charm, no visible redeeming qualities or features - is that because the script calls for her to die, so it supposedly doesn't matter? Every other female in the film is attractive, well dressed, made up - except for her.

    • @VLind-uk6mb
      @VLind-uk6mb 2 роки тому +1

      I think she is very sweet-looking. And the series abounds with plain women -- the cleaner, the housekeeper at Dr. Kerris', even Stella, and Brenda's mother is no beauty -- nor is Kerris' wife. I personally think Howarth's sister has a most unattractive face, largely due to her expressions. Anyway, people look all sorts, and most people do not judge a woman by her make-up, clothing or even features -- there is such a thing as character, and personality.
