Lyrics:
I Have Seen This Once Before
I Have Felt These Colors
I Have Known You For So Long
When We Ran In Circles
For Our Sake
I Will Wait For You
I Walk Alone Into The Darkness
I Came Toe To Toe And Face To Face With The Beast
He Knew Me By My Name It Was Surprising
He Knew Everything About Me That I Despised
I Have Seen This Once Before
I Have Felt These Colors
I Have Known You For So Long
When We Ran In Circles
He Had Gold And He Had Silver
He Had All The Women And Wine That You'd Ever Need
Just One Thing A Prick Of Your Finger Spell Your Name In The Sand And Do It With Your Own Blood
Bitten By Fangs Of Circumstance
Outward Light A Reflection
We Are All Equal
Underneath The Slab Of Material
Mutable Ways Of My Fortune
Bitten By My Fangs
Gave Me A Smile
Gave Me A Whisper
Lay Me Down In Linens
To Watch Me Sleep
I Played The Fool
I Played The Sinner
I Played The Part Of Me That No One Wanted To See

Mastodon- Toe to Toes [In-Studio Performance]
Mastodon looks like a band of all the best uncles in the world
Edit: 2 years later and this comment is still true
Haaa! Dude, my uncles look just like these guys.
jajajaja xd
🤣😆😂
Lmao!!
yeah!!! 100% thruth
It is goddamn criminal how underrated Mastodon is outside of the metal community.
Yeah, I remember how I randomly found one of their songs in my UA-cam recommendations... Now I know how to play 2 of their songs :D. Hopefully ytb will continue to recommend me stuff like this :))
One more "underrated" comment. Can`t people come up with something more original?
Why would that even matter?
If they went outside of the metal community they would go gay, at least the fans would, people who only listen to mainstream are incappable of seeing it how we do
Who gives a shit about what other people think of what you like. They're rich.
I am a 71 year old man and love this band.
Cheers bud. I’m 37 and love them too. I can’t think of another band capable of doing what mastodon does
I am not sure if I´ll be able to reach level 71. But glad to know!
@Rheo Bartels I hope so! Cheers!!!
I love you!!!
@@mmehrhof opeth, for starters
Little piece of trivia for y'all: Brent originally wanted this EP to be a solo project because it deals with deep aspects of his character, life and mind, but he later decided to let the boys join in so he could share part of the burden with them. He considered that in this manner the process would have been much less painful.
True friendship at its best, I love them.
is this why i legit get emotional during his vocals? :(
The making of Emperor really portrays their friendship and the way music connects them. I get really emotional when they talk about Bill`s mom passing, and how he just wanted to jam with them because they are his friends and wanted to share that moment with them. I love that idea of a band.
My second fav mastodon release
Where did you hear this? Because everything I've heard CDP has nothing to do with what you just said.
That's beautiful!
Man I love Brent's voice. It's clean with a gritty uniqueness that makes it so real and emotional.
Me too, is strange, but in a really good way, adds a lot to the song
Yeah when I can understand what he's mumbling about
2:50 to 3:55 is basically the greatest one minute and five seconds in metal prog
He has come along way from their remission album.
3:19
They are Mastondoning so hard on this track. Love it.
Mustydonging it
Mastodonting?
You really just turn mastadon into a verb lmao alright
Phantomgreen I know right mastadong is so gay bro
+Lord Drip shut up dipshit
I don't understand how everyone in this one band can be so incredibly talented.
This EP came out when my Dad died, and for me, It's all about him. Especially this song. Love yoy Guys.
My mom died a month ago and this song has been a high point for the last few months

Brann fuckin dailor
Brann is fucking amazing and underrated af. Hes as good as anybody not named Danny Carey in progressive rock.
How can a band perform this well so consistently? So talented man every song they've ever released kicks ass
By clapping in their songs...thats how
totally
bluematter01 I agree except for their latest album, which I found to be their first lackluster release. It actually bored me right off the bat because it sounded uninspired and a rehashed wannabe CTS.
I still love Mastodon to death, but I fear this is the beginning of generic Mastodon. I hope they bounce back.
I tottaly agree with you. But you know they are people they get old i dont think they have they same energy to write and perform new complex and extreeme songs. However that doesnt mean people should get hyped and praise them when they realise uninspired music.
PS : Someone should make a compilation video with young mastodon giving hell on stage and then old mastodon recording claps for their new song.
assmatronix i encourage you to give it a few more tries. it's a grower. i didn't like it at first either. to each their own though

- Because your mom loves roses

Orchides
Troy Sander's doesn't get enough praise as a vocalist. His bits dig deep and hit hard, and they have a sense of wild optimism. Can't wait for more Mastodon records.
Dude I get you! His range is amazing
I love his voice. It’s like a cleaner remy.
Stoneage bellowing at its best
The only problem is, I've read in the interview they gave to Dave Grohl, that Troy routinely took a shit inside their tour van (on a newspaper). So when I hear his deep and rumbling vocals in a Mastodon song, I can't help but imagine him taking an epic dump in the studio while recording it...
@@egorsozonov7425 Art always takes sacrifices, it is the price we must endure for epic metal vocals
Very good clapping
Easily the most cringy part of the track.
why is it cringy? why is anything cringy man
you clearly don't have an understanding of audio engineering or recording music in general. Also with a name like that go listen to your broken microphone burzum shit. Also if we were talking cringy having 666 in your name twice isn't helping you mister edgelord. keep telling your mom its not a phase.
Jeremy Iftody clapping
That riff that leads into rhe chorus is awesome
Fuck yes
No shit huh
Yes!! Sounds a lot like Rush no?
Love Mastodon. Saw them last year and was amazing. Went with two friends that told me were making some songs..I thought it was something just to have fun, but a few days ago they shown me their first four songs and I freaked out. Couldn't believe they were the same . They are called Red Can and you should check them. They have that thing.
@@butterman2205 Really awkward plug dude.
This song led me through the darkest period of my life, kept me sober and busy by learning how to play it and kept me alive …thank you for this song
Hay bro how are you doing with learning this? I wouldn't have a clue!
Slay those inner Dragons one at a time.
Dragons are still there….I’ve slain a few but life is full of em…pumpin the strings and skins will keep the heart alive however and music and time will heal all…
Probably about 65% learned…no tabs just ear…
💯
When people say, "Rock is dead", you know damn well they never listened to Mastodon
@INTOtheVOID11 Which type of metal is this? I really want to know especifically.
@INTOtheVOID11 thanks !
Agreed 🤘🏾🤘🏿
Mastodon is trash
Check out Elder.
My pattern for every Mastodon song I've heard; *1st Listen* Ehh, it's okay. *A few days later* This song is amazing!!!!!
Scott Villanueva same for me, this one isn't yet at final stage, I'm still orgasming for emperor of sand!
Scott Villanueva man that's how I felt about the current album. First couple of listens I poo poo'd it now after like 4-5 months I love it.
So very true
I feel like that too. I guess their music is complex to a point where u cant absorb everything in it at first. These videos where u can actually see them play helps me get through and love it as well.
Exactly.
Brent Hinds is like rock n' roll Willy Nelson. This is the only band I've ever listen to that successfully went from heavy to less heavy, from harsh to clean vocals, and still somehow sounds like the same band and still holds my attention.
Yeah, Metallica shit all over that transition. Nearly 30 years after the Black album (which I didn't care for) they're still stumbling around.
Adolph. Oh I don't think Metallica is stumbling around, they can still sell out any arena they choose to play at. Check them out doing Master of Puppets on the Howard Stern show live, here on UA-cam. You will not be disappointed.
at some point he almost looked like a more bearded joe cocker :|
Agree. The grit and rawness from mastodon never gone.
Wish Opeth did the same
Tormund over here writing his heart out for Brienne.
Hahaha! GOLD 🥇 🤜🤛
I was looking for a Tormund comment lol
Here I was thinking he looked a bit like Jeff Bridges, but Tormund works lol
*Gives her a melody on his lute. Then plays a song.
Fighting terminal non alcoholic liver cancer...and MASTODON YOU ARE ON CONSTANT ROTATION...your music means the world to me...had to sell my guitar gear to help with expenses..which bummed me pretty bad...it was also therapy...but yalls music keeps me hopeful and positive that I can fight this monster...Please keep all the magic flowing....it means alot to my Wife and I m sure millions more...we were able to see you live at Neumos in Seattle..April 2009....on my bad days I still look at pics and video of my wife and I 10 feet from the stage right in front of Brent while you guys KILLED IT!!!!...thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!
Are you still fighting man?
You still with us bro?
Hope you're well man.

Jesse Kellestine Ozzy do this all the time on the gigs
I wont lie, it's a hugely underrated way to get pumped up!
clap, bang, clap, bang!
Jesse Kelles
Troy really gives it his all on vocals.
Turdsley definitely, his speaking voice is pretty low, so he definitely has to give it his all to reach those notes, it's not easy but he always manages to hit them
+Eric Cartman Fitness Whatever, fat fuck.
he so nice irl
AMAZING.
My love for Mastodon knows no bounds, has no limits and is forever.
Seen these guys live once, with the eagles of death metal. Have been a long time fan , since their very first , very gritty album, Remission.
I cant stop listening to this song...
Mee to Man, fucking awesome and deep
Brann's dance moves are the best part of this video
for sure LOL
😍
1:55 lol
absolutely! he even had kind of a Scott Weiland from STP vibe going there for a while
Yeah he's so gay
This band is brilliant. And they don't even fake the clap sound. Integrity. Kerry King couldn't even find a negative comment to say about them.
Clap might be real, his singing certainly isn't.
I don't know if you're deaf or simply too ignorant to realize they're using autotune.
You suck at trolling. #1 rule, don't ever tell people you're trolling.
I'm sure he could
Unicorn Steaks I really like them a lot.. and I have seen them twice live... but I think they only lack of songs not suitable for live performances... although all their songs are brilliant..
Brent. The Joe Walsh of Mastodon and metal. Seriously. He's the guy in the background, laid back, unique, and cool. Then every so often, he comes out and shares his heart, his soul - to everyone out there. He peels back a few layers, moves the curtain aside, just a little for us all to take a peak inside.
Peek, not peak.
I'm 45 and a musician, have followed this band for 15+ years. They are almost depressing in that they are so good at what they do. I hear everything that I have ever loved in what they do, and I have no idea how they do it.
MASTOEDON DOES IT AGAIN
TOES IT AGAIN*
^this guy doesnt get the joke
No he toesn't.
Get the Toeke*

This song....remember when you heard that 1st tune that grabbed you and pulled you under as a teenager...the one that made you actually listen....this is it again 20 years later.
Brian Rawcliffe Yep. I'm 38. This is badass. Unique. Alive.
exactly that feeling
Fuck yeah!
Amen! I’d drifted so far from metal over the years, yet in my mid 30’s Mastodon have re-introduced me to the genre I grew up on. True musicians.
I’m 53 and this band keeps me playing drums, the real deal
obsessed with the riffs on this tune. The Verse breakdown is so F'n killer and Brent's voice is spot F'n on
This is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. It’s so rucking deep and so good.
This is fantastic, and how about the fact that Mastodon has kept the same lineup for their entire 17 year existence. Many bands can't last 5 years.
I give you ZZ Top.....but this is also ace!
Clutch as well, they had an organist for two albums but that's it. Same lineup from 1991, little after their formation. Amazing accomplishments.
@@jameswest9915 Rush as well.
Real friends
At this point Mastodon is an everyone or no one band for sure. Nice post.
This EP was fucking incredible... Wish there were more tracks. I wouldn't even be upset to see them continue in this direction on their next full length.
I like that they released it. I feel like if a band is going through whatever it is that makes them think and EP is a better fit for them than an LP, then go for the EP. I think Tool really fucked up by waiting 12 years between albums. That's unecessary. Release 4 songs 5 years in, and everyone would have been thrilled, and also have been saying "Damn this is sick, wish there were more songs!" But gain, the alternative is zero songs. Love this band.
Agreed. Imo this is their best stuff since Crack The Skye.
Napoleon Solo OMRTS was a little “poppy” but absolutely incredible nonetheless... Tread Lightly, The Motherload, High Road, Halloween and Ember City are all absolute bangers.
That drummer has his own style, when I ear the drums I know it's Mastodon
Exactly!
I stumbled onto this song randomly, and have come back every single day since. I'm going down a rabbit hole. They're just so good, so fun, and you can tell they have such chemistry together. I've been stuck in my Tool, Zeppelin, Floyd bubble for so long. It's like falling in love with someone new.
Man, Brent's vocal capabilities really came out in this one. Fucking love it.
I'm here for:
- Mastodon great humor
- satisfying my gear p0rn
- the genius music.
-watching the way Brent claps into the mic

I'm going through a very tough time. This band has helped give me the strength to face the day. Thank you for your music. It's such a gift.
One of their finest songs
Super sirius, how dafuq did this not make it on an album?
It's on Cold Dark Place coming out on the 22nd
Pretty deep tune. Great. Front to back.

I am so fucking glad i clicked on this. Its the first time ive ever heard Mastodon. Really blew me away. Thank you!
Very welcome to Mastodamily, please have your boarding pass ready
I was aware of them but never cared until Killer Be Killed came out and I liked what Troy brought to that band so checked em out and became a fan. Saw them a year or 2 ago with Primus. REALLY wish I woulda checked em out years ago.
Pendulous Skin from Blood Mountain was the first track I ever heard from these guys, back when the album came out. Been a fan ever since I was like 15.truly talented musicians who love & live music. It's a lifelong thing...most people don't get it
You won't believe their first album then
It’s a great rabbit hole to go down! I fell in love with Oblivion about 4 years ago!
Never actually heard Mastodon despite my many years of listening to metal. Saw this in my recommended and thought "go on then", and omg why the fuck has it taken me this long to give them a listen 🤦😆
This song reminds me of Devin Townsend's album Ocean Machine. It has the same kind of feel to it and I love it. Definitely gonna be listening to more of these guys 🤘🙌
I've never heard this band before and here i sit, sobbing with happiness, sadness and joy. What a ride this song is
Chimes at Midnight. Give that song a go
Every time I hear this song it makes me cry because I discovered it right after my grandma passed.
Brent's vocals are amazing on this.
"I walk alone, into the darkness
I came toe to toe and face to face with the beast
He knew me by my name, it was surprising
He knew everything about me that I despised"
Daniel Carneiro Sounds like he’s meeting the guardian of the threshold imho. Great lyrics.
Guido Tube69 'the guardian of the threshold'? WTF is that? Another name for the fallen angel who will rip your flesh once your short lived existence is comes to an end?
It strikes me as being the manifestation of facing your demons. They "know" you because they have been with you for so long, but you haven't necessarily seen them. So all this time they have been info-gathering on you, and now want to cash in as you are facing them down, trying to move forward.
Well done. Your ears work son.
@@mahntoaste2864 Totally! That's what I think everytime I hear it.
Dude this is so pure. He is telling it as it is and pronounces every word.
Take your time, Brent.
These guys are consummate musicians, and having 3 singers gives them a great edge in creativity. Progressive is the best part of hard rock.
I’m not a Rock / Metal fan at all.....but I know exceptional musicians when I hear them. This song has really grown on me!
Meow!
Maybe you didn’t know your a metal fan . Now you do,
Metal addictions always start with a song or two that just grow on you
Go and listen to Rush and Soundgarden.
These guys are so talented. Drummer is so good. Sings. Dude singing 1A is amazing with that voice. Try to do it.
The vocal melodies in this song are absolutely amazing... Can't stop listening!
Who are the 1.4K clowns that gave this a thumbs down? Were you looking for Creed?
They thought it was an episode of Nova. Public broadcasting failed them. Went on an epic journey through the magic of music.
GREATEST ROCK BAND OF THIS ERA
Hey Bill!!! Brent is playing your guitar for the solo!!
Howdytoons would love to get my hands on the Sparrowhawk. Slick looking machine.
Me too!! ESPs are sweet axes.
Bill is a local here in Roc...I see him around at shows and stores!!
And it's fucking mesmerizing!!!!
Well you should approach him as a human and say thank you, I know I would. Just a simple thank you and walk away ,I bet it would blow his mind. These guys are so used to the cock riders.
This is like an opening to a Mastodon sitcom, very heavy Friends vibe goin on
Ethan yes! Each interview I view there's that familial vibe again. And funny! They truly love each other and are each so real! No pretense, no posturing. Maybe that's the core of why their music is so outstanding--the create it organically from the heart, paying attention only to the purity of the sound. No lies in their music.
Brent Hinds said that Mastadon is not a Metal band and never was, and that he hates metal. . . . . Really? Haha
I think it's cool that Mastadon is doing it their own way, and I really like the positive vibe of these lyrics, but frankly in my opinion this song sounds like total shite.
Blood Mountain is the last Mastadon album I am a fan of.
Mastadon was a Metal band, now they are prog/pop rock with some heavy guitar tones.
To each their own, but Brent alienating his earlier fans with his anti metal attitude and also speaking an out right lie about the band's past, . . . . . . He is now residing in the dick wagon category for me.
Mastadon basically pulled a Metallica . . . . . .. . .
@Mikey H. Really? Total shite? I can understand your disappointment in their change of direction, but you honestly have no appreciation for this kind of music? Each to his own, I guess, and we all have music genres that we don't like, but it surprises me that this song rates at the bottom of the scale for you. "Total shite". Those are strong words that seem to imply that any kind of music would be better than this...?
For me, it's this very change of direction that made me a Mastodon fan (but then I've always loved prog rock), and I have now bought their latest two albums, and I'm contemplating which of their earlier albums I should buy next. It would be easy for me to listen to a random song here on UA-cam, but I think the best approach is to buy an entire CD and listen to the whole thing to get a more accurate feel for that particular time in their career. Maybe you can help me decide. Ignore my personal taste for a second, and just tell me straight-out which is your personal favorite Mastodon album. I love heavy music as well, so don't pull any punches. I'm looking for what Mastodon fans consider their very best album ever. Not song, but full album. I like to listen to full albums instead of singles. Which is best from beginning to end?
It would also help if you told me why you love that particular album, but I understand you might not want to write that much to some random dude on UA-cam, so if you'd rather just give me the title, I could probably find some good reviews by others. I'd rather have your own words however, as you have intrigued me with what you've already written so far.
I would watch the shit out of that show.
Long time fan of Mastodon, and a 54 year old musician myself this song out of all their epic creations causes something within me to leap and brings me to tears of joy especially going into the chorus each time.. phenomenal writing .. I LOVE YOU GUYS🤘🎶
What is amazing about this band is that you can tell not only that they are invested in their music, but they’re also invested in each other

It has an Ozzy southern rock vibe to it.

Well. That was fantastic! I will be listening to this for several years. It has that timeless factor for sure. Very impressive guys.
I’ll always love how they added and recorded the 808 clap to this track 🤟
I just gotta stand up and give these guys a big hand. Fucking phenomenal. I honestly can't remember the last time Mastodon has disappointed me. How can these guys be so fucking good? Emperor of Sand is already one of my albums of the year and then they drop this. Man.
These guys are one of the most consistent bands in music. Emperor was phenomenal and so is this song. So stoked to hear the rest of this EP!
Oh, the Mastodon Fanboy has arrived.
Toby K. Aunt lisa
Toby K. When bands go on a creative roll, they cant stop. So many artists I've listened to after a hiatus have lost all the creativity they once had. If Mastodon just pumps out a couple kickass records in a short time frame that would be epic.
Charles Mattingly Mendoza well if i dial back the fanboyism, i can totally understand how the changes in sound over different albums might turn some people off. But i dunno, they just surprise me with every release. To each his own!
this band gives me hope for music and humanity in general. keep it up guys.
This song is such a grower....one of my favorite now from them.

When I heard the song I had to go get the tabs so I could just play this one riff
Neither can I. It's a sort of post metal breakdown turned americana, super impressive and very descriptive. I wish it they had made it last longer.
Jesus Christ Brent sounds so damn good. I cannot wait to hear brann on this EP.
Perfectly shot video. Shows the love these guys have for each other and how incredible they are as musicians.
1:20 that riff is glorious... And I love Brent's zz top-sounding vocals in the chorus
I love this video as "music video" for the song, it's so great :D
It's got a Chlorine and Wine video flavour to it. Awesome stuff.
