I don't know what live version you're listening to but this not the album version (which also had a lot of airplay in the 70s) which sounds very very different....
there`s usually a difference between studio recorded and live recording at a concert ! there`s really not a lot of difference ,I`ve been listening to this song since since 1976 !
Live they really went jam in the 2nd half of this song, great in a live setting but the studio original is far superior a mix and is very fsmous, you need to hear it!
Some of their most popular and some of my favorite songs are: Godzilla, Cities on Flames, Burnin' For You, Joan Crawford, Astronomy, Last Days of May, and E.T.I.
So glad to see you reacting to Blue Oyster Cult. BOC is known as "The Intelligent Fan's Hard Rock Band". They don't have many top hits. What they do have are fantastic albums full of deep cuts. I've been a huge fan of theirs since the 70's. This is a band you absolutely want to explore - both studio & live.. I've seen BOC live 29 times through the 70's & 80's. I can tell you for a fact that guitarist Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser is ranked as a top tier guitarist and highly respected among his peers. I can also tell you the performance you just saw where he made everything look easy is because - for him - he was holding back. BOC songs are often about the darker side of fantasy, mythology, & science fiction. They will also at times bring in a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor to their songs as well. They have more than one lead singer, usually lead vocals fall to Eric Bloom. I highly recommend you check out the studio cut of "Don't Fear The Reaper" Also - Here is a short list of songs to get you started on your BOC journey: 'I Love the Night' (studio cut is one of my very favorites) 'Godzilla' 'Burnin' for You' 'Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll' 'Hot Rails to Hell' 'ME 262' "Flaming Telepaths" "Astronomy" (original studio version first please) "Mirrors" "Unknown Tongue" "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" "Sinful Love"
The album version has more cowbell as it's one of the most popular Saturday Night Live sketches I remember. Two late eighties songs that should also be included in BOC's playlists are Dancing in the Ruins and Take Me Away.
My favorite band to see live, and also my favorite guitarist. May I recommend Last Days of May performed in Chicago on the summer solstice, June 21, 2002, at the Navy Pier. It features 2 guitar solos, one from Alan Lanier (RIP), and the other from Donald Roeser (Buck Dharma). It also features Buck on vocals as well. You may have to pick your jaw up off the floor after listening to that. They are truly an amazing live band, have seen them 8 times, and was lucky to meet Buck at the last concert I went to. They are still touring today, but with a slightly different line-up. Love your reactions Ola.
This awesome tune really launched into popular culture after SNL (Saturday Night Live) did a skit featuring this song starring the cast, Jimmy Fallon, Movie Stars Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken. It was back in 2008 I think. Check it out. Also 'Burnin' For You' from 1981. Great tune. Cheers.
@@clutchpedalreturnsprg7710 - That is the 1994 mini-series of The Stand not the 2020 mini-series...and that is the album version of BOC Don't Fear The Reaper not the live version... Also the song is played in Halloween (1978),when Michael Myers is following Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) in the car, towards the beginning of the film & at the end credits of The Frighteners (1996).
@@MLJ7956 Hello, did not know the stand was attempted to be remade. I always listen to the album version. This was first time to hear a live version. I stopped watching television at least by 2012. Hey! "
The song was featured in the original "Halloween" movie. The Bouchards, Joe and Albert, the original bassist and drummer from when this song was recorded, are from Northern NY, where I was hatched and weened. The band was originally known as Soft White Underbelly.
There is one song, the kind of song so freakin' awesome you wish never ended. But it does. It always did. 10,000 times already. Ending on me. I still cannot believe it. You like EPIC guitar solos? Then try this forever song: Veteran of the Psychic Wars (Live at Hollywood Sportatorium, Pembroke Pines, FL - October 1981)
Okay so there's a town in Washington state named Zillah. In this town is a Church of God Zillah LOL. Before you ask, yes they have a statue on a trailer
When I hear this song I think of when its played at the beginning of Stephen King's The Stand ( 1994 ) after almost everyone on the planet dies Also will farrel playing the cowbell on SNL It also appears in an awesome will farrel vs Chad Smith ( red hot chili peppers ) drum-off skit on Jimmy Fallon
BOC live are better than studio! Yeah, the studio version is slick and crisp, but it doesn't have the pure energy of the live performances and the superb outtro!! I am glad you played the live video!!
VERY nice live choice, ma'am. From their concert on The Navy Pier, Chicago, 2002. Not many reactors, if any, have reacted to any of this concert. A fan of theirs since 1973, IMO, this particular concert had THE best live version of "Then Came The Last Days Of May". Yes Cult fans, even better than OYFOOYK's version. This one even has an extremely rare guitar solo from Allen, and of course perhaps one of the best live solos from Buck.
Awesome song! I also like their song Godzilla. When u have a chance on your own time, check out the Saturday Night Live aka SNL skit about this song, with Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell & Christopher Walken. It spoofs this song & it's hilarious!
In another video you said you were looking for female metal singers. So Lzzy( Lizzy) Hale of Halestorm deserves a listen. But if you need more Amy Lee you could check out Break In featuring them both. ua-cam.com/video/OUuVReJSrc4/v-deo.htmlsi=MH3X0tShrSRN786i
Awesome live version, but I think you'll like the studio track even better.

Veteran Of The Psychic Wars "live version " is the best!! Awesome you discovered Blue Oyster Cult
studio recording first ALWAYS
❤, I have to agree with the mob. Do the studio version from Agents of Fortune album. Flat out awesome.

Excellent live version!
Another song from my childhood...

Saw them live 4 times and they were great every time!
GODZILLA! A Blue Oyster Cult classic!
Good choice
As always, a great reaction to a classic song
Studio version please... More cowbell!
One of the best rock-metal band🤘
Hello, this song became the opening music for the mini-series " The Stand ".
Stephen King also quoted this song in his novel

The studio version is so much better, with that special impact in the solo that was absent in the live.

Everything that's old is new again...
HIM caught up with this vibe some decades later.
Godzilla is their best live performance, this song is more haunting on the studio album.
Seen them in Belgium a few years ago. Still one of the best bands ever. ❤👍
Muito bom esse BLUE
There song Veteran of the Psychic Wars is really good too.

In another video you said you were looking for female metal singers. So Lzzy( Lizzy) Hale of Halestorm deserves a listen. But if you need more Amy Lee you could check out Break In featuring them both.
